LOL Princess Peach. (Alt text)

Acantha really does need some psychological rebalancing. This whole thing has been a lot to lay on her.

Now Acantha knows about Dr. Demark's empathic ability. :D
Centcomm 3rd Jan 2018, 12:17 AM edit delete reply

I can actually claim that one this time.. Also new TWC incentive!

hehe thank you Rufi! :D

I can't read the all text but this is what popped into my mind when I saw Princess Peach.

I'm sorry Maxus, your princess is in another castle!

And the mostly ironic thing is it's completely true!

What does it say about the world if I got the joke although I never played that game?...
antrik 3rd Jan 2018, 9:54 AM edit delete reply
BTW, did she get that one from Aeneas -- or was it just an accidental joke?...
Centcomm 3rd Jan 2018, 5:36 PM edit delete reply

I think Acantha would make a better Princess Daisy. XD
Centcomm 4th Jan 2018, 2:26 AM edit delete reply

she proably would!
rufiangel 3rd Jan 2018, 12:18 AM edit delete reply

Princess Peach XD

Aw Acantha. You're hanging in there so far like a gem. (She's one of my favourite characters. ;v;*)9)
Centcomm 4th Jan 2018, 2:26 AM edit delete reply

Lynn is gonna run off and cry now..
rufiangel 4th Jan 2018, 3:29 AM edit delete reply

Welllllll XD it doesn't mean I don't like Lynn, all them characters are so delightful and likable <3

but but but

Acantha is my favourite, what can I say XD
antrik 4th Jan 2018, 10:39 AM edit delete reply
Butting in here: I wouldn't say that I *dislike* Lynn... She has her moments. But I can't say I'd really miss her if she dropped from the cast... Except as a companion for Acantha of course -- we still need her for that ;-)

I guess this might change at some point, since she is supposed to undergo some major character development I presume? But so far, she just doesn't appear particularly interesting, or likeable...
Morituri 5th Jan 2018, 1:23 AM edit delete reply
I like the girl, but I gotta admit, so far the main good points she's got going for her are courage and the fact that she's not her brother. And her particular variety of courage has tended a couple of times to the suicidal/foolhardy side of the spectrum, as she's taken several unnecessary, uncalculated, and dangerous risks for little benefit.

I don't count befriending Aeneas in that category; it may have been rash but it was enormously necessary and beneficial, and there was little to lose anyway had it been unsuccessful. But there've been several other things where she had little to gain.

I guess it all comes down to how well she does at the 'Imperatrix' gig. A hell of a lot more seriously and competently than her brother at the role of Imperator will be easy. Well enough to see New Sparta survive? That's going to be a very difficult bar to clear and will take a *LOT* more character and discipline from her than we've seen yet.
antrik 5th Jan 2018, 10:54 AM edit delete reply
@Morituri Acantha has *a lot* going for her. For one, she is witty, which is always a big bonus ;-)

I too think that she has been rather reckless in taunting her psycho brother for no good reason; but other then that, she has consistently shown good judgement and an enormous maturity for her age. (While not forgetting to be silly when appropriate :-) ) I don't expect discipline to be a problem for her.

She has a kind heart; she seems to have a good grasp of the complexity and import of her role; and she has been studying for it diligently. I think she has very good chances of being a good ruler. If she gets into trouble, I think it most likely to be with showing a strong hand when circumstances make it necessary...

(Luckily, she has Maxus and Noctis, and even Aeneas at her side.)
megados 5th Jan 2018, 11:39 AM edit delete reply
Just wanna poke my head in to say that I pretty much agree with antrik here with regard to Acantha. :)
DLKmusic 5th Jan 2018, 3:44 AM edit delete reply

@antrik: I like Lynn just fine! I was even thinking of getting her a gift of exotic cheeses... to go with her whine!

Seriously, Lynn has had to grow up real fast in the last 3 weeks or so, and under extreme circumstances. she gets gold stars for coming through this intact, and lucky for her she has a Gran-mama that will help her put her life back in balance.
antrik 5th Jan 2018, 10:55 AM edit delete reply
Well, yeah, she doesn't lack "spirit", I'll grant you that ;-)
Romfire 3rd Jan 2018, 3:28 AM edit delete reply
Sooo she doesn't know that they are growing a flesh heart for her yet?
Sheela 3rd Jan 2018, 9:21 PM edit delete reply

I don't think so, because then she would have known about the artificial heart, but I'm thinking she may have figured that part out.
If nothing else, she knows that old man Setorius, would have no problems making a new one, as long as she survives long enough to meet up with him again.
antrik 4th Jan 2018, 10:32 AM edit delete reply
Well, Dr. Demark said Princess Peach has a synth-heart *right now* -- that kinda somewhat implies that it's not meant to permanent I guess?...
Sheela 4th Jan 2018, 1:25 PM edit delete reply

Correct, it's only temporary.
antrik 4th Jan 2018, 6:07 PM edit delete reply
Yes of course -- the question was whether Peach is aware of that.
TheSkulker 3rd Jan 2018, 3:35 AM edit delete reply

The benefits of advanced medicine: that is a small and fairly well healed scar for a recent open replace heart surgery! Also a short time to be up and about and without major pain (or good meds?). I was up and about in two days after my bypass surgery and after a week it was "What surgery?".

However, I had the benefit of minimally invasive robotic surgery so no broken ribs and only a small 2 inch horizontal scar. I can't imagine not needing a larger opening and breaking ribs in order to perform a heart replacement - the synth heart may be far advanced but our physiology is pretty much the same.

New Troy must have some advanced healing processes to speed things up. I would venture a guess that Centcomm would have appreciated some of those last year.
antrik 3rd Jan 2018, 9:42 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, nano-medicine almost amounts to magic from what we've seen... I'm half surprised she even still has a scar at all :-)
robnot 3rd Jan 2018, 12:00 PM edit delete reply
scar,, why get rid of it when going back in to put the cloned one in...?
antrik 3rd Jan 2018, 3:47 PM edit delete reply
I considered that -- but then again, why *not* remove it, if it can be done easily?...
megados 3rd Jan 2018, 9:55 PM edit delete reply
Why not could be any number of reasons, from "it's an unnecessary step which would have to be redone anyway", to "possible elevated risk of infection". Probably minimal, but why do it if its not necessary? That can be done once they're finished and they close the hood. :D
antrik 4th Jan 2018, 10:43 AM edit delete reply
@megados I'd say patching her up properly would *reduce* risk of infection, if anything?...
megados 4th Jan 2018, 11:28 AM edit delete reply
I'm not sure I understand it the same way; I'm not a medical professional. The way I understand it, a scar is made of scar tissue - tissue formed to close a wound. To remove a scar, one has to either remove the scar tissue, (opening the wound) or use some sort of dermabrasion to smooth it to make it unnoticeable. The first way, you break the skin. The second takes treatments over time which remove the top layer(s). Either way, that seems like an opportunity for problems. However, as anyone who has ever been bored enough to read my posts can tell you, I am often wrong. ;D
Sheela 3rd Jan 2018, 10:01 PM edit delete reply

I heard that there are some some Danish scientists that are considering if they can adapt an already known method for bone fusing together with nano-machines and be able to reset bones within a few hours of surgery ... wichcraft I tell you !

Basically, the "old method" (which is only a few years old and have barely escaped the confines of the labs), consists of 3D printing calcium into a shape that replaces the missing piece of bone (like when lengthening a bone), and then let the body eat the calcium and convert it into bone. At first people were sceptic about it, but it turns out that the immune system really likes calcium and it tends to work pretty fast on converting it. So much so, that the hypothesis is now that if you could put some nano machines *into* the calcium, that activates upon contact with blood/bone marrow fluid - Said machines could "excite" the process and make it considerably faster. The flipside is that you'd need to cool the area down with some water cooling to avoid damaging the bone marrow itself.

But if their hypothesis holds, we could possibly walk into a hospital in the future, and have our broken bone fixed in a few hours and walk out of there, unsupported!

Stuff like that is just *way* too cool! :D
Of course, it's still just in the hypothesis stade, and it may not come to fruition, but it's still so damn cool!!
megados 3rd Jan 2018, 10:13 PM edit delete reply
That is really cool and interesting. It makes one wonder just what the nanomachines are doing. Being that the process is exothermic, it tends to make me believe that they are some sort of molecular level catalyzing agents, and the accelerated reactions are responsible for the increased heat. (Just a guess) Yes, the dissipation of the excess thermal energy would be very important.
Sheela 4th Jan 2018, 2:07 AM edit delete reply

As I understood it, the nano machines were exceedingly simple .. they just sort of .. bobbed around, making the mixing process much faster.
The extra heat was partially heat from the nano machines themselves, but mostly from chemical reactions.
I must admit, I didn't understand much of the chewmistry there, it was kinda advanced.
Centcomm 4th Jan 2018, 2:27 AM edit delete reply

Acantha slept though the " worst " of the pain and recovery, shes now in the get up and move phase. admittedly i wish they had this tech when i had my heart surgery!
Ebonbolt 3rd Jan 2018, 4:22 AM edit delete reply

To be fair, Acantha's physician of record is most likely Dr. Snarkmaster himself, and probably uses the level of return-snark as a gauge of how his patient feels. There's also that saying going around: "Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupid"; since Decimus compounded his stupid with paranoia & god-complex, it's likely Acantha's immune system will take a little while to settle down from "lethal sarcasm responses to mildly obvious questions" to mere "sass."

Shouldn't that be "an Empath"?
Morituri 4th Jan 2018, 12:49 AM edit delete reply
It's definitely not just you. Noctis just came directly into "Horse Stance" revealing that our talented artist has watched martial arts matches while paying attention.

Essentially it means she's ready to strike in any direction on an instant's notice.

That said, it's difficult to do suddenly without being very noticeable. One's entire balance is noticeably shifted from a casual standing position.
Morituri 4th Jan 2018, 12:50 AM edit delete reply
That ought to've been a reply to Antrik, below. I must've hit a wrong button.
antrik 3rd Jan 2018, 9:49 AM edit delete reply
Is it just me, or does Noctis seem highly suspicious of the empath?...

(Frankly, I'd be surprised if she wasn't, considering that it's kinda the equivalent of a cyberpath...)
megados 3rd Jan 2018, 10:08 AM edit delete reply
Noctis does seem kind of apprehensive; that could be why.
robnot 3rd Jan 2018, 12:07 PM edit delete reply
i wood say it's just you..
she hasn't moved or changed expression.. and this doctor has been here from the start,, so if the doctor wanted to do anything, she could have done it a hundred times by now...
and finally shes a bodyguard,, she has to be ready at ANY time,,
Speedy 5th Jan 2018, 2:03 AM edit delete reply
I'm sure Noctis has made a mental note to not let the good doctor be anywhere near Acantha, when diplomatic discussions take place. Noctis would have to assume that Acantha's feelings would be made known to Centcomm, giving Centcomm an advantage. The doctor could be New Troy's Deanna Troi.

I have a feeling that the doctor told Acantha (and Noctis) about her ability, not just to offer her counseling expertise, but also to limit the possibility of her gift being used against her patient. There's probably a history of Centcomm trying to breach empath / patient confidentiality.
DLKmusic 5th Jan 2018, 3:41 AM edit delete reply

@Speedy: That's an astute observation, my friend. I definitely wouldn't rule the possibility out!
sigpig 3rd Jan 2018, 2:44 PM edit delete reply

IMHO, Noctis is suspicious of EVERYONE and EVERYTHING when it comes to Acantha...
Sheela 3rd Jan 2018, 10:03 PM edit delete reply

In fact, she's highly suspicious of Acantha herself !
I mean, who knows what she'll be up to, right ?
Centcomm 6th Jan 2018, 3:35 AM edit delete reply

that is kinda her Job
megados 6th Jan 2018, 11:27 AM edit delete reply
It's her job, plus another thing that comes to mind, is that getting Acantha on the throne, and replacing Decimus, was something she worked for. She is not about to let anything happen that would threaten her.

Speedy 5th Jan 2018, 2:31 AM edit delete reply
"Hey, Doc, I don't remember my top being cut this low before surgery."

"Your top is in an evidence bag. Lynn gave us that top and said, quote, 'Acantha will look badass in this top. It'll look like you cut right through it, to get to her heart.'"

"Huh... She's right. I do look badass! Tell her I'm keeping it."

"I had a feeling you'd say that."

"Ha! Ha! H- Ouch! Ha."

They probably have wonderfully non-addictive drugs at this point. Although everytime I see something about withdrawal. I'm glad she's not from the American South. Then she might suffer with drawl.

It took me several times looking through the comic for the lovely detail to notice this, but I actually really like the detail that went into the scar on Acantha's chest. It's quite similar to the one my roommate had, albeit lower down, from a stomach surgery. It's cleaner of course, but you'd expect that from vastly more advanced medical technology.
