Actually, this is going much easier than I expected, 'cept Jordan's kind of worried. Comman- um, I mean Ophelia's day might be getting a little brighter. Rapeface Jeff's isn't though. Oh well, can't have everything! :D

One minor nitpick: the 0s and 1s in the speed speak bubbles seems lighter? I almost missed it. Maybe it's this screen.
Just_IDD 22nd Aug 2018, 1:09 AM edit delete reply
I thought so myself at first however then I noticed that my phone was set to 50% brightness and when I jacked it up to 75% it became much more defined.
Tokyo Rose 22nd Aug 2018, 6:38 AM edit delete reply

@megados

You're fucking scary.

The usual opacity for the speed-speak binary is 15%. However, for some reason, it doesn't always work well in combination with some text-balloon colors--it interferes too much with the actual dialogue text and makes it too hard to read--so I tweak it a little. In this case, it's 10% opacity.

You spotted a difference of 5%, you scary scary person.
Just_IDD 22nd Aug 2018, 7:37 AM edit delete reply
If it is 10% instead 15%, then he noticeed a 33% change. People using PC's almost never adjust their brightness, less so if they are artistic types and go to the trouble of color calibration on their system.

Looking at it this way, PC users adjust the room lighting, not the monitor, where mobile users don't usually have any control over the room and adjust the device.
megados 22nd Aug 2018, 8:52 AM edit delete reply
@Tokyo Rose, me? scary? (I'll take that as a high compliment!) But if you have megados, and Tokyo Rose in a room, megados wouldn't be who I'd pick as the scary one! :D

I do understand your reason for the change though.

@Just_IDD, yes, technically 5% of 15% is a 1/3 or 33.33__% change, but on Rose's opacity scale of 0% to 100% it's a 5% difference. :D (I have my screens adjusted how I like them, and rarely if ever, change them. ;D )
Sheela 22nd Aug 2018, 1:01 PM edit delete reply

Heck, even I, a doggy, noticed the difference … I'm sure it's fairly noticeable.

On a sidenote, it's good to see that even the security guy is starting to call him Rapeface Jeff ! It seems we .. the girls, have been a good influence on him. :)
Deoxy 23rd Aug 2018, 9:42 AM edit delete reply
I noticed it, too - as Just_IDD points out, it's actually a pretty significant change.
megados 26th Aug 2018, 10:27 AM edit delete reply
What makes it significant, is that it's at the low end of the scale. As the difference percentage approaches zero, the change percentage increases.
Jarin 22nd Aug 2018, 12:23 AM edit delete reply

my oh my,,, Feelie's been taking lessons from Rose.!! tho Fellie has a few (hundred) years of learning to go...
HiFranc 22nd Aug 2018, 2:25 AM edit delete reply

Well, I’m sure a few minutes in the company of some people here would speed up her learning.
Sheela 22nd Aug 2018, 1:01 PM edit delete reply

I'm thinking that Tokyo Rose just didn't want to be outdone by the comments. XD
Just_IDD 22nd Aug 2018, 1:07 AM edit delete reply
I think Ophilia might have a new date.

I'm trying to think of what ship they should send out to pick her up too best highlight her place within the Nova Roma military hierarchy.

I know Max is busy busy, but his private ship with a reaper to maintain flight station/guard while he is on the ground. Would make the little cock washer piss himself. When Max got out and greeted her by name, limp dick, will want to find a hole and pull a rock on top.
DLKmusic 22nd Aug 2018, 1:28 AM edit delete reply

I think a small flyer manned by Septorus and Hrist would make a sufficient impression. and I get the feeling that Septorus is pretty good at dealing with the "entitled"...
megados 22nd Aug 2018, 8:55 AM edit delete reply
Something large and looming, to where it couldn't land in the street, so it hovers just overhead, and they have to come down in a small shuttle to pick her up.
robnot 22nd Aug 2018, 11:50 AM edit delete reply
how bout,, "Queen Acantha" , Noctis . an 2 reavers.. (reavers on loan..)
since they would be returning to New Roma..

and just for giggles... Tennyo dispatched 3 or 4 Cassians and a squad of grunts to bring her back... soo basically a mob to retrieve one "Feelie"...
Sheela 22nd Aug 2018, 1:05 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, but it's all the Feelies that the Cassians have.
I suspect that the Cassians are rather protective of their Feelies. :)
On a sidenote, they could just hire Mr Black to pick them up, with Dr Silver's drones as an escort - That should be fairly intimidating.
Ebonbolt 23rd Aug 2018, 11:42 PM edit delete reply

But the Cassians don't really like Dr. Silver.
Sheela 25th Aug 2018, 3:25 AM edit delete reply

True, but I suspect they can appreciate a good show of power, and then adapt to the situation.
HiFranc 22nd Aug 2018, 2:26 AM edit delete reply

Looks like his new nickname has stuck. The officer had to stop himself from using it.
Sheela 22nd Aug 2018, 1:06 PM edit delete reply

Ha ha, yeah, that made me chuckle.

Someone have been a bad influence on him. :)
Lurker314 22nd Aug 2018, 4:19 AM edit delete reply
Guys, STOP! The comic already has me laughing enough. The comments, though....

We don't know exactly how long its been, but I'm thinking that Setorius is probably getting boored between Senate meetings. Think he would stoop to making an appearance? That could work...
Sheela 22nd Aug 2018, 1:08 PM edit delete reply

No, no, Setorious is not bored, after all he has a brand new Murderturd specimen to experiment on. :)

Well, it's down two legs, but still.
Oldarmourer 22nd Aug 2018, 6:24 AM edit delete reply
Quite possibly one of the most entertaining arcs yet. Congratulations, this sort of humour/drama/action is probably my favourite genre and very, very hard to pull off properly but you guys aced it. The dialogue in particular is simply brilliant. All those in favour of 'Feelie getting her own strip say 'aye' ;)
Oldarmourer 22nd Aug 2018, 6:26 AM edit delete reply
All we need now is for some sort of 'accident' to happen to her spare body and keep her stuck like this but with a 'normal' Cassian skillset and of course a few upgrades for concealed weaponry... complete fanservice on all counts :)
Just_IDD 22nd Aug 2018, 7:52 AM edit delete reply
Ophelia would probably hate it, but what about one of the sprite chassis? Though the black angel chassis could have been nice, it wasn't designed for long running durability that the operational chassis need.

The officer here looks like a model 3b, though I guess you could be wearing additional armor over his chassis protection it's hard to tell for sure because the last panel makes it look like it's much more integrated than clothing.
Sheela 22nd Aug 2018, 1:11 PM edit delete reply

I've heard that there is an only slightly used NTAS Sprite body out there, with all sorts of combat mods, that is about to be *very* available!

Yes TeeDee, we are looking at your body! >_<

Sheela 22nd Aug 2018, 5:41 PM edit delete reply

Curiously, I don't think we have seen any of Noctis' doilies yet.
JackOfClubs 23rd Aug 2018, 3:54 PM edit delete reply

Even more curiously, attempts to Google examples of the kind of doilies Noctis might create meet with disappointing results. "Ninja Doilies", "Violent Doilies", "Weaponized Doilies", "Kickass Doilies" all yield image results of … doilies. You do get a few rule-34 type subversions but evidently the doily-making community is the lone holdout against the post-modern ironicization of the internet. Who knew Aunt Bea was such a badass?

Note: "Death Doilies" does yield a few cute skull-based images of the Coco variety, but still...

If you handed Noctis some knitting needles, she may assume you would want her to kill someone with them, but I suspect she has learned to verify. :D

Alternatively, if Noctis did knit a doily, it would probably be very intricate and complex, and completed very quickly!

My all time top death is "death by teacup" in Chronicles of Riddick. Somehow though, I am certain Tokyo Rose and Cent could top that.
Lurker314 24th Aug 2018, 2:03 AM edit delete reply
What does it say about me when I *instantly* thought of asphyxiation as the "obvious" use of a doily by a Cassian?
Sheela 25th Aug 2018, 3:30 AM edit delete reply

Naw, not bloody enough.
megados 25th Aug 2018, 8:42 AM edit delete reply
How about if she would throw it with enough spin, so that centrifugal force holds it flat like a steel plate and cut someone's head off? :D (Man, those Cassian skillsets!)
Tokyo Rose 25th Aug 2018, 6:36 PM edit delete reply

My favorite part of the "death by teacup" is how absolutely stupid it is. "Oh no, you have lacerated my skin with a jagged edge that has been stopped by my ribcage and I am now dead." I mean, geez, he could have AT LEAST rammed it farther into the chest cavity.

Also, the sardine-can key was the neatest unspoken threat I've seen. :D
Sheela 25th Aug 2018, 7:37 PM edit delete reply

Heh, at that point he could have put anything on that rock, and it would still have been menacing !
Speedy 19th Sep 2018, 2:31 PM edit delete reply
And, the person she gave it to would spend their last moments marvelling at their complete, legal death warrant, beautifully knitted into the form of a doily.

megados 27th Aug 2018, 8:56 PM edit delete reply
It's all pretty interesting. Development of algorithms continues apace. The main hurdle now, (if we're talking about androids), is that the computers needed are still physically quite large. If Moore's law continues to hold sway, something akin to a synth-brain is still a ways off. Of course, that also depends on whether silicon continues to be the main architectural medium.
Lurker314 28th Aug 2018, 5:01 PM edit delete reply
Moore's law has been dead for a decade. We have to get past MOSFETs before we can proceed. Worse, the next technology might well reach the point where information theory limits computational density. And despite the hype, current "AI" technology is not even a little bit like general intelligence.

I'm not saying that androids are forever fiction. I'm saying that setting these things several hundred years in the future is a lot safer bet than several decades.
megados 28th Aug 2018, 5:32 PM edit delete reply
NMOS, PMOS, and CMOS are used, because of their lower power consumption. Bipolar transistors are faster and smaller, but consume greater power and require fancier heat dissipation methods. Moore's Law, in strictest terms, is less than directly applicable, but the general principle, and a correlation to density curve still somewhat apply, in that now it applies more to transistor module clusters, such as complete logic gates, registers, etc. Development doesn't follow a linear vector.

AI does have a way to go, but there again, progress doesn't seem to follow a linear vector. Developments allow for more rapid gains, as new techniques, and hardware allow for even greater complexities and software nuances.

In the end, there is nothing to exclude new breakthroughs or developments in software and/or hardware which would leapfrog ahead.

In the end though, I agree it's going to be a while. :D
