You did a great job there, CentComm. It looks really natural (to me). Almost to the point you ignore it, because it looks the way one would expect it to in that situation. :-D
No, she isn't a TOTAL prude. But it still probably sounds a little gross to her. Plus she doesn't know the two involved very well yet. I can't see her jumping on that wagon just yet.
Teenagers gossip about those they know (or at least THINK they know) very well. :-) Frequently they are wrong though, attributing actions the completely wrong (shallow) motivations.
Having lived between a couple that fought all the time, and a couple that had sex all the time, I can say from personal experience, that it is infinitely better to have the sex addicts as neighbours over the fighting couple.
Oddly enough, I kinda like it when the neighbours have sex, it's an odd sort of soothing message ... "it's safe enough for sex" .. that it gives off.
The horizontal bop is not normally called funky music (at least I haven't heard it called that). :-D Now funky music and the dancing that people do to it frequently LEAD to the horizontal bop, but they are separate things. :-D
No neighbors to disturb, so they don't have to be quiet. Can vocalize their pleasure to their heart's content. And from Acantha's comment they have a LOT of heart's content. :-D
I do have to say though Hornet, I'm surprised if Irene has as much difficulty as the nano-brace implies that they can get that energetic! Especially with someone the size and strength of Maxus.
Prisoner Taylor was in over her head and knew it. Never go against a princess in a water fight... or was it, "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!" :-D
The Tech Page mentions how some androids are "copies" of famous persons, made using a "persona-gram". And the section on White Angels explains that no random chance is used in their creation.
My point? Has Cent-Comm ever considered making a persona-gram based on Dolly's personality? She has proven herself time and again in protecting the Taylors and raising three generations. Calliope herself said that Dolly was the best thing to happen to the Taylor family since old man Helios. And Cent has found Dolly's behavior to be interesting; the extreme devotion she displays (even for an android bodyguard), how she emulates humans in comforting Calliope, and how she styled her hair to become a visual tie to her old model 2 body.
Hopefully, Dolly has many more years of service. But wouldn't Calli and Cent want to PLAN AHEAD so future Taylor generations can have a guardian much like Dolly? How would Dolly feel about the idea?
Also: Can Cent make a perfect "copy" of a personality matrix? Or can she merely try to emulate as close as observations allow?
Yes, I already understood that a persona gram does not contain any memories. But then, from earlier comments it sounded like they can't copy memories so easily anyway. And I haven't forgotten the significance of the 100 year lifespan with Dolly's future, particularly since she is over 60 years old.
You may have mistook where I was going with this. I'm thinking about the long term. And considering the immortal nature of Cent-Com and her responsibilities, I'm sure she looks as the long term, too. And Cent does have a special interest in looking after the Taylor family. Besides, this Lynn kidnapping has clearly driven home to Cent the importance of security. Yet, Calli's recent reaction to Cent's overprotectiveness (Maya incident) has had Cent realize that there are limits in how far she can go.
Even if Dolly is given an extension or even an exception to the life span law, she will not live forever. Accidents happen. And she's a bodyguard who wouldn't hesitate to put herself in danger to protect the Taylors.
Granted, an android with Dolly's persona-gram would NOT really be Dolly, but someone else. EVEN SO, I would have thought Cent-Comm would prefer someone like Dolly to protect future Taylor generations decades, even centuries from now.
xspacetrue.. I would think Androids would rather live their allotted time and not want to live longer. They might think about it just like humans do but would you want to do the same thing over and over for centuries? Especially the mundane jobs/ lives. (they might end up turning into a spiky ball of hate like Rose or EVIL like CentCom)
Perhaps you are teasing? There's NOTHING about Rose (the story character) that even REMOTELY resembles a ball of hate. She seems like a nice person, actually. Though, she is sneaky and, when necessary, can be devious and a bit manipulative (but -not- in a cruel way). But that's just how she rolls. (That sharp wit and tongue is MARVELOUS, btw!) It's obvious she has good intentions and she goes out of her way to avoid hurting others and protecting her agents.
How TR treats Kyle tells volumes. And she did not talk Kyle into working for her. To the contrary, TR pointed out the dangers and tried to talk him out of it. Kyle was determined to put himself in harms way, even without Rose.
I don't think Cent-Comm is actually evil, either. Granted, she has used weapons of mass destruction, used drones to kill, and unleashed horrors on her enemies. But this was centuries ago during THE GREAT WARS and my understanding is that she was -made- do to those things, QUITE LITERALLY. (The Luna Star story recently hinted at Cent's origin.)
I don't think the Cent of today is the same person, either. Helios Taylor had a hand in reprogramming her to be New Troy's AIS. And the fact that the Taylor family can override Cent's systems is evidence she has been altered.
That story arc where Maya was determined to deliver Dolly's message and where Cent threatened to end her - that was QUITE revealing. (And well written.) Although she can be quite cold when necessary, Cent seemed to show regret for her past. And, at times, she displays empathy for others. It's just that this business with Lynn has been forcing her to make some hard decisions, for the greater good. (Such as the cold treatment of Teedee and Ada.)
Indeed, a major reason why Cent is going to such lengths is her fear of being turned back into that weapon of war. And it was Cent-Comm who initiated the movement among the AIS world-wide to stand up to the stupid humans in charge who were slaughtering each other and driving themselves to extinction. That was Cent's doing!
As for the "living forever" stuff:
I really don't think that applies to persona grams. Memories are a huge part of who we are, though certainly not all of it. Losing memories (or having different ones) can change the way we think, act and even believe.
Consider the TIM-01 series, which are made as a sort of "copy" of Major Rachel E. Timson. I'm sure that if someone murders a TIM-01 Timson, they'll be charged and convicted of murder. Nevermind that they can create another TIM-01 android with the same persona gram, it's still a different person.
Now compare that to the dramatic scene were Teedee has had enough and shoots one of Cent-Comm's dolls in the head. Teedee did that to vent her frustration at Cent and piss her off (particularly in how she weaseled out of paying for a new doll). It stunned Cent and was probably quite unpleasant. But no permanent harm was done to Cent.
TRIVIA: Did you know that the courts treat corporations as a seperate legal person? Apparently, they have some qualities of "personhood" that affords them the protections afforded a person.
BTW: Lynn sure looks different with wet hair. I hadn't realized until now how much her hair contributes to her look. I'd have trouble recognizing her at a public swimming pool.
its not surprising .. honestly I can change the makeup of a charcter and have someone go "what did you change! " but yes Hair and makeup are a big part of what makes you.. you.
Speaking of cosmetics and change, I found this article to be interesting:
Why Cosmetics Work: More Depth To Facial Differences Between Men And Women Than Presumed
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/10/091020153100.htm
Apparently, our brains are wired to equate greater contrast in facial features as being more feminine. Cosmetics exaggerates differences to take advantage of this.
no I mean literall ID theft. I mean could someons Say hypothetically Sneak up on say someong like Ada or Tedee, Stun them Download em out of their bodies and then upload themselves into their bodies with all their cleareances and all that attached to that body and well SCrew their credit rating/do naughty things?
The problem there is that unless very spicific steps are taken once the Q-drive slot is active it liquifies the Synth-brain rendering the body unuseable :D
Rashala's ID theft scenario reminded me of the Ghost in the Shell series. In particular, the episode about some bad guys that catch the Prime Minister when his brain is outside his full conversion cyborg body and they substitute an imposter's brain.
BTW: When the Q-drive is used for a download, it's not only irreversable (brain liquifies), but there's also a significant failure rate. As I recall, isn't it 30% for typical Q-drives? Even with the prototype Q-drive Dr. Silver just developed, it's still 10%.
As such, it's not something to be taken lightly. No wonder androids seem to wait until their body gets badly damaged before getting a new body.
QUESTION: Is it possible to TRANSPLANT a synth brain into a different body?
Actually under controlled conditions they can "move" a Android from one body to another by ether moving the brain Physically or just the memories and personality.. You have already seen it done 3 times Ada , Teedee and Dolly. even Kelly was moved to a new body.
In the extremely unlikely case that someone DID manage to "hijack" an android's body in such a fashion, the thief might have all of the physical identification and such, but would NOT necessarily have the memorized passcodes, brainwave patterns, and so on. The act would just about punish itself, if the thief wasn't able to integrate properly with the stolen body.
So much for CEnty taking her centennial shutdown/reboot and while offline Rose takes over her Dolls and does wacky things with them for the tiem ti takes centy to reboot
The prank for "someone like Ada or Teedee" thing: Even if it was perfectly safe to do what you suggested, that's more than a little extreme. Sounds like "body kidnapping" to me. ID theft is -not- a mere prank.
TR does seem to have a mischevious streak. (I -loved- the way she reprogrammed Kyle's ship to pretend to initiate the eject button and had it sing "On The Road Again." ^_^) However, it seems playful, almost innocent - like a glimpse of an inner child. (That is, gentle teasing instead of something that could be hurtful.)
That said, Cent-Comm's dolls (see Tech Page) have positronic brains, not synth. Maybe it is be possible to hijack a doll?
Though, I'm sure there are safeguards in place. If it was possible, I suspect it might take an AIS could pull it off. Even then, it might require close proximity.
And if anyone somehow hijacked one of Cent's dolls - regardless of the reason - she'd consider that a security breach and treat the offender as such. (TR would know better.) I sure wouldn't want to be in their shoes.
Anyway, there are much easier and safer ways to go about such a "prank". Perhaps you would hijack Teedee or a Cent doll to put them in silly or erotic poses and take pictures, then share them? Instead, why not use 39'th century CGI to "photoshop" some pictures? Want to record them saying silly things? I'm sure they can very easily fake voices. And, again, CGI.
Remember how TR made adjustments to Kyle's ship, much to Kyle's annoyance? TR can surely change the voices of drones and bots. It'd be child's play compared to some stuff we've seen her do.
If Kyle continues to work for TR and ends up annoying her at some point, maybe she'll change the voice of his helper bot to Mr. T? I can here it now, "I pity the fool!"
You realize Space...you are just Encouraging Rose more and more that Hijacking Centys dolls and having them do silly things would REALLY be funny and Must be done. As for ada and TEddee I used them merely as Examples NOt as intended targets
Dolls are remote-controllable if you have the right equipment. That's what they're for, basically--telepresence receivers. Distance is, however, a factor, since the wireless signal only goes so far before it becomes too attenuated to be useful. Any AIS would keep their personal dolls well-passcoded to avoid having some hacker get cute. :D
Why do I suddenly have a mental image of An evil grin on rose's face as she says all that and a gleam in her eyes as she makes plans to take over all of centy's Dolls for the next april fools day and have them all do river dancing and other forms of REALLY embarrassing things WIthin video camera range
Can-Can is quite a step up from river dancing... But considering what Can-Can is (sadly IMHO) generally associated with, it would be quite fitting for Commie's sex dolls :-)
I imagine the acoustics in that "cavern" of a room must make listening to that very interesting.
Great job on their skin textures.
...now even with acoustic supplements.
I think Acantha should put up some music before they really get started.
Lynn is already kind of freaked out, doing that would probably drive her back out into the snow!
It's the kinda stuff teenagers like to do.
Teenagers gossip about those they know (or at least THINK they know) very well. :-) Frequently they are wrong though, attributing actions the completely wrong (shallow) motivations.
Oddly enough, I kinda like it when the neighbours have sex, it's an odd sort of soothing message ... "it's safe enough for sex" .. that it gives off.
At Sheela - thats true good point on that :D
Do it again, do it again, do it again!
Somehow I don't think they are dancing right now. Different form of exercise. :-)
The horizontal bop is not normally called funky music (at least I haven't heard it called that). :-D Now funky music and the dancing that people do to it frequently LEAD to the horizontal bop, but they are separate things. :-D

Three heads !
But one is in cover.
No brains though. :)

The main barrier to Dolly continuing is the 100 year lifespan of Androids.
