I don't know Cat. Her look on the last page seems to be recognition of the hi speed speak and may have leverage later to bring up with it. She's unlucky but not stupid to not hear the squeaks.
I read her expression more as "Damn, this hurts!" I think a lot of it is just the damaged to her face -- broken jaw, bruises, etc. Dolly packs a hell of a punch!
Wouldn't it be possible to make a device that can record and recognise android speed speak, and then replay it at normal speed later ? Or perhaps even an augmentation of some sort ?
You'd think a guard would be outfitted with something like that, at least.
Fair enough, but just knowing someone is talking behind your back is often enough to trigger a red flag.
And I'm also sure most places have a mainframe capable of cracking the code fairly quickly, should it be considered important enough.
Of course, having a defect AIS, New Rome might not have that ability.
Thing is, they'll have to be careful about using this form of communication. Where they are, getting caught using it could be problematic at best. Dolly is supposed to be human and I don't think humans are capable of using it even if they can detect it.
Strangely enough, while I have no qualms about bad things happening to her, I hope our merry little merc survives this tale to continue suffering for her bad attitude. I really don't want to see her killed.
The look on Dari's face in that last panel...I think she is starting to pick up on something. As someone who has to eek out a living on her grit and wits, I wouldn't count her out just yet.
Dolly has a completely different speech pattern here than she did in Breakers. So Dari may be trying to figure out how see can use/expose Dolly's subterfuge to her advantage.
Dari isn't real bright (smarting off to Dolly was NOT healthy at all), but she has a CUNNING about her, I think.
She might, but Im of the opinion that Dari is a lot tougher than she seems, and smarter too. Not fancy book smart, but more street wise. Out in the waste, she knows her business, but put her in a more civilized setting and she is out of her element.
Im mot going to count her out just yet. Bad guys are just as able getting out of impossible situations as the good guys.
and yes Dari is tough as boot leather and has the morals of a .. i don't know but she doesn't have much. and there isnt much she wouldn't do to survive :P
[While she still has it.]

...and it is not speech but data packages they send.
...and since cat-girl could hear it it must be below 80 kHz if her hearing is like real cats'.
and some humans " can " hear it..sometimes.
Even if they can't crack the code, that's still interesting.

If she was, she wouldn't be in the situation she is in now.
Using it in this context sorta puts me in mind of battle plans that include the words "probably" or "ought to".
and is it just me or does Miss Bad luck look like she is about to try something REALLY Stupid

I do not envy Dari...
I don't have a of sympathy for her either though. Dari made her choices... and now she has to live (or probably DIE) with the consequences.
In canon you never ever ever see Dredds face..
I was posting really late last night and had to have been tired to miss that!
Surely there is terminal in the Air Masters office, or it's waiting room?
