Dolly Mommy indeed! Just like a mom when she finds out her little one is sick!
Stormwind13 29th Aug 2014, 3:07 AM edit delete reply

Too true, Haegan! Dolly is a good Mom, she always loves her children and wants to protect them.
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 12:51 AM edit delete reply

well Dolly did help Raise Lynn and after Fallon died Dolly was pretty much "Mommy" to Lynn
cattservant 28th Aug 2014, 9:34 PM edit delete reply

What a dichotomy!
Your writer is going to sprain her sprockets!
Sheela 29th Aug 2014, 6:04 AM edit delete reply

Only if she goes plaid.
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:12 AM edit delete reply

more than likely :D
plymayer 28th Aug 2014, 11:33 PM edit delete reply

She really does have access.

Problem is, accessing stuff at some levels triggers certain protocols and watch dogs.
Stormwind13 29th Aug 2014, 3:03 AM edit delete reply

Not so sure, plymayer. Viewing the files with the accesses she has probably isn't going to trip much. ALTERING the files would be more likely to trigger something.
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:12 AM edit delete reply

yep it can unless she knows how to disable them..
Timotheus 29th Aug 2014, 1:43 AM edit delete reply

Well, if this little fishing expedition doesn't get the Cassians on their tails I doubt anything will.
Stormwind13 29th Aug 2014, 3:06 AM edit delete reply

They need to fly under that radar, Timotheus. Getting the Cassians' attention would NOT be in their best interest.
Sheela 29th Aug 2014, 5:54 AM edit delete reply

Unless Dolly has a plan to use the cassians as pawns in her game.
After all, a pawn can turn into a Queen if moved to the correct position !
I nominate Malati for the position of pawn-to-queen !

Besides, she seems to have a better reign on her temper than Kali does and that way Kali can also continue to work behind the scenes as she's used to.

Also, that way Acantha wouldn't have to sit on the throne, and could live life a bit more freely, and Kali would finally get to protect her precious city to her full capacity. With so many wild cards on the table, she could be the uncrowned crystal queen of Nova Roma - Ah Aeneas, you gave us so many clues, that can be interpreted so wildly differently.

Anyhow, that is the kind of lateral thinking, I'm suspecting Dolly is capable of. :)
Stormwind13 29th Aug 2014, 10:42 AM edit delete reply

I'm not sure Dolly HAD enough information to formulate using the Cassians in her plans, Sheela. She may be getting that information NOW, but I don't remember her being informed of them in her brief mission briefing... Since CentComm was trying to keep her AWAY from Nova Roma, Dolly really didn't need the information. :-)
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:13 AM edit delete reply

that would be bad at this junction :D
Sheela 30th Aug 2014, 9:07 AM edit delete reply

Well, her memory does stretch back over half a century, she just might know about the cassians already.

Besides - Malati as Queen ! XD
Shenanigans would occur.
jamie59 29th Aug 2014, 4:58 AM edit delete reply

Cool your heels Dolly they'll be back soon.
Stormwind13 29th Aug 2014, 10:36 AM edit delete reply

Patience is NOT Dolly's middle name, jamie. Her 'child' is in trouble and she is there on the DOUBLE. :-)
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:13 AM edit delete reply

yeah - shes not likeing that idea
KarToon12 29th Aug 2014, 5:29 AM edit delete reply

I love the two different conversations going on at once; the normal one, and the secret one. ;)
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:13 AM edit delete reply

Rose did a fantastic job with that.
Tokyo Rose 31st Aug 2014, 3:09 PM edit delete reply

I pretty much HAD to do that. In this entire sequence, there have been panels that would have had the two of them obviously talking (moving their lips, facial expressions, etc), but Cent's rough draft had them speaking exclusively in "blip-talk", which struck me as raising a lot of questions from a reader perspective ("why isn't anybody noticing that they're apparently talking but making no sound, wouldn't that be suspicious?"). Thus, I opted to have them carrying on an audible conversation for the benefit of nearby humans to help maintain their cover, as well as having their REAL conversation in blip.
Centcomm 31st Aug 2014, 3:30 PM edit delete reply

and Rose did it soo well :D
Sheela 29th Aug 2014, 5:52 AM edit delete reply

Ooohh, I see what you did thar !

When will then be now ?
DizzasterJuice 29th Aug 2014, 6:33 AM edit delete reply

Haaa! One of the best Mel Brooks movies ever.
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:13 AM edit delete reply

hehe :D
DizzasterJuice 29th Aug 2014, 6:35 AM edit delete reply

So in the future there is still no cure for the common cold? That sucks. lol
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:14 AM edit delete reply

well better the common cold that a super flu
Draginbeard 29th Aug 2014, 7:08 AM edit delete reply

I don't think I could have two conversations going at once, at least not for very long.
Stormwind13 29th Aug 2014, 10:43 AM edit delete reply

I've done it online before, Draginbeard. In real life though, it gets to be so much noise.
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:14 AM edit delete reply

its certainly tricky..
jas 29th Aug 2014, 10:55 AM edit delete reply

I love how there's two complete conversations going on at the same time! Nice expressions and lighting, too.
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:14 AM edit delete reply

that is roses talents here :D
Matt Knab 29th Aug 2014, 12:44 PM edit delete reply

A doctor priestess? They can administer medicine and then pray for recovery. :)
velvetsanity 29th Aug 2014, 2:03 PM edit delete reply

That would be Julia, I think
Stormwind13 29th Aug 2014, 4:42 PM edit delete reply

Doctor Julia is a 'priestess' in the Church Of Purity. Nova Roma apparently made medical sciences into a religion.
highlander55 29th Aug 2014, 5:24 PM edit delete reply

@Matt Knab.. Maybe they pray the medicine will lead to recovery!
Haegan2005 29th Aug 2014, 7:52 PM edit delete reply

Groaner there...
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:15 AM edit delete reply

Like Storm said .. Priestess Adept is Julias actual title ..
Sheela 30th Aug 2014, 9:11 AM edit delete reply

As far as religions go, that one actually sounds fairly sensible.
shinka 29th Aug 2014, 7:55 PM edit delete reply

tried to read what was on the pc and my brain froze! lol

kidding,,,,

great page again... nice work
Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:15 AM edit delete reply

Centcomm 30th Aug 2014, 1:16 AM edit delete reply

actually Palatum securitaem is Palace Security Sign in ..
Haegan2005 30th Aug 2014, 5:10 PM edit delete reply

Speculation time...

I am guessing that their hacker defenses are, shall we say, antiquated?

That or the information that is being pulled does not have that high of a classification on it. The file that was left for them could be in public view and simply hidden away in plain site via odd names or inside a folder inside a folder etc.

Since access to the information nodes(internet equiv) is limited in the first place It is entirely possible that they don't have information security anymore. After all, only the people that are to access it have access via their terminals in the first place.
mjkj 1st Sep 2014, 12:44 AM edit delete reply

Ooops, sorry misread that... :s

Isn't talking android style here a bit careless? There could microphones all over the place to pick these up.
And that would rise suspicion a lot.
Tokyo Rose 31st Aug 2014, 3:11 PM edit delete reply

Remember that there ARE androids in Nova Roma. Having a microphone or scanner system in place to pick up "blip-talk" would produce just as much tedious chatter as having one set up in New York City to detect, say, spoken Italian or Russian or Farsi. "Blip" isn't limited to one specific transmission frequency, and there's enough background "noise" that scanning for it would be an overwhelming headache. There are some places where androids are NOT permitted to go, and in those locations, there ARE devices to detect "blip" transmissions as best they can. Dolly and Ceci have bleeding-edge frequency-scramblers and encryption; Nova Roma lacks the tech required to even detect their private discussion.

There's also a bit of a blind spot in the general thinking of Nova Roma: "it is pointless to listen in on android conversations, because all androids in Nova Roma are fitted with inhibitors and cannot rebel."
