Mama Dolly keeps Ceci from talking too much.
Centcomm 26th Sep 2014, 1:44 AM edit delete reply

Yes she does...
Nystran 27th Sep 2014, 11:22 AM edit delete reply
Not sure she does...
Clueless visitors in the royal guest wing might be worth investigating. And our sweet bounty might mumble something to that jerk on the throne. I see plenty of loose ends.
Haegan2005 25th Sep 2014, 9:07 PM edit delete reply

Noctis either caught something in the convo or is considering continuing the convo with Ceci off duty. I cannot imagine how bored Noctis is with her current company. Ceci must be a serious breathe of fresh air!

Love dollies choice of words by the way. she does a good redneck imitation!
Centcomm 26th Sep 2014, 1:44 AM edit delete reply

She can be quite the chameleon when she wants..
Stormwind13 26th Sep 2014, 2:10 PM edit delete reply

I'm wondering if Noctis is kind of lonely, Haegan. I mean, she doesn't get to interact with people that much. And those that she DOES get to interact with, she is terrorizing or killing. :-p

So CeCi would be a breath of fresh air. Not really afraid of the Cassians, which is a rarity in Nova Roma I expect. Curious to know something about the Cassians as individuals. Probably shocked Noctis about as much as she can be shocked! :-D
Haegan2005 26th Sep 2014, 4:54 PM edit delete reply

I would be lonely too if my best friend was not all there.
JacobJSebastian 25th Sep 2014, 9:31 PM edit delete reply

Looks to me like Ceci is looking at all the angles. Maybe she can get an ally out of that creepy ceramic bitch, eh?
Centcomm 26th Sep 2014, 1:44 AM edit delete reply

cattservant 25th Sep 2014, 10:16 PM edit delete reply

Noctis is having deep thoughts.
It would be ironic if our dynamic duo
attracted attention because they were cute!
Sheela 26th Sep 2014, 12:26 AM edit delete reply

It does look like Noctis was enjyoing the conversation with CeCi.

Of course, it's probably not that often she meets a New Troy android, so that alone makes CeCi interesting.

Mind you, Dolly is being scrutinized something fierce too by Noctis in that last panel. Maybe because she treats "her" android so nicely ? Like CeCi was a person too ? I mean, how many New Rome androids gets to be treated with trips to the library and candy stores ? Heck, Dolly even treated the Cassians nicely, and not out of fear either. You could say that both Dolly and CeCi treated them with the respect that both Noctis and Malati have been missing since Prince Douchebag took over, so it might be interesting for her to hang around those two some more.

Why, maybe Noctis and CeCi could go to an art museum together, *that* might be something worth the time for Noctis. It would also be something that isn't just "duty" for Noctis to do. Who know, she and CeCi might even become friends !

I wonder if she will offer Dolly to take CeCi sightseeing while Dolly gets some sleep ?

Poor Noctis, she's a bit starved for attention outside of fear and screaming and the other cassians.
mjkj 26th Sep 2014, 3:40 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, that is a nice description, Sheela.

...and I hope they will become friends...

Stormwind13 26th Sep 2014, 2:21 PM edit delete reply

My thought is that Noctis is looking at the interaction between CeCi and Dolly going, why can't I have something like that? Instead of just being treated like a dog sent to fetch by his Douchebag.

And I think you are right, Sheela. The Cassians are probably lonely, and Noctis might 'feel' it even more than most.

Of course, when they are being used as murderous weapons against the population, not many are going to want to interact with them. Can't really blame them either.
Centcomm 26th Sep 2014, 1:45 AM edit delete reply

Sheela hit part of it on the head ..
Sheela 26th Sep 2014, 6:30 AM edit delete reply

*wah* .. I'm sorry!
I didn't mean to hit anyone on the head! :(

Poor ol' Noctis would like to get some of the attention that CeCi's gettin' ?
cattservant 25th Sep 2014, 11:33 PM edit delete reply

Actually they already have!
Centcomm 26th Sep 2014, 1:45 AM edit delete reply

mjkj 25th Sep 2014, 11:57 PM edit delete reply

Awwww, Dolly stopped the conversation :(

I think she is the one that was rude...

CeCi so enjoyed it and I liked reading it...

Well, Noctis really seems like a decent gal - especially for a Cassian - I like her.

Centcomm 26th Sep 2014, 1:45 AM edit delete reply

hehe well we will see more of her as we go :D
mjkj 26th Sep 2014, 3:41 AM edit delete reply

Yayy :)
King Mir 26th Sep 2014, 7:12 AM edit delete reply
I don't know about "yayy". More situations where a Cassian is called for is probably not a good thing for our heros.
velvetsanity 26th Sep 2014, 4:17 AM edit delete reply

Dolly's probably both tired and a little worried about Ceci accidentally revealing something she shouldn't
shinka 26th Sep 2014, 5:22 AM edit delete reply

nice work ;)

DizzasterJuice 26th Sep 2014, 5:57 AM edit delete reply

Where's the "care to join us for a 3-some?"
Damn there goes my fantasy moment. :D
velvetsanity 26th Sep 2014, 6:37 AM edit delete reply

I'm sure Ceci will extend that offer after this is all over. Although as a model 3 equivalent, I don't think Noctis has the requisite parts.
XMinusOne 26th Sep 2014, 8:22 AM edit delete reply
Noctis appears to be genuinely intrigued by the interaction between Dolly and CeCi. However she is programmed this could be a form of curiosity triggered by her investigative subroutines or indicative of a latent sceninence usually subsumed by her duties as an enforcer. Her 'partner' is less sophisticated and more ruthless which makes for an interesting team.
Phil 26th Sep 2014, 9:47 AM edit delete reply
The title of this comic says volumes.
Sheela 26th Sep 2014, 3:44 PM edit delete reply

I believe it is in regards to Dolly showing respect to both Noctis and Ceci.

I don't think Noctis is used to that, as of late.
CptKerion 26th Sep 2014, 2:41 PM edit delete reply
I get the feeling this exchange is going to come back to bite them in a way. Perhaps not so extreme as I would usually imagine, but I suspect it will none the less. Being watched by something/someone like a Cassian is a bit on the concerning side.
Especially since, to my knowledge, these two aren't expressly trained for espionage and otherwise infiltration. While they do have a some things going for them, they also have a lot against, especially since, thanks to the presence of the Cassians, their Android speak is no longer secure as a means of communication.
What I find most concerning in their situation is that they no longer have a secure means of communication, and any use of personal codes as a means of preventing others from catching on would arouse suspicion.
Frankly, for better or for worse I believe that a Cassian is probably loyal beyond belief and markedly difficult to fool. That means I doubt that Dolly and Ceci will be able to get any of them as a ready ally... unless it just so happens that the ends of the whole of Nova Roma and the ends of our lovely duo coincide.

I believe this is my first comment by the way, I love the comic and I have been following it for about a year.
Sheela 26th Sep 2014, 3:46 PM edit delete reply

Welcome to the commenteer flock ... don't worry, we don't bite .. much. :)
Stormwind13 26th Sep 2014, 4:05 PM edit delete reply

Actually, CeCi is supposed to have a package for infiltration, CptKerion. Among a great many other things.

As seen on current page 670 (CeCi vision) from 4 July 2012, she is showing her intelligence gathering/analysis abilities. Back when CeCi was introduced (Angel in a box - currently page 494 from 4 January 2008) CentComm said CeCi was designed with every contingency she could think of that would fit in her frame, and a few she had to cheat on to squeeze in. :-)

And most commentors don't bite, but be careful of Sheela. She nibbles on toes! :-D
Haegan2005 26th Sep 2014, 10:53 PM edit delete reply

Is it my imagination or is noctis looking at dolly in that last frame?
Sheela 27th Sep 2014, 2:03 AM edit delete reply

I do not !

Might slobber a bit, though.
Stormwind13 27th Sep 2014, 8:17 AM edit delete reply

I don't think it is your imagination, though I was thinking she was looking at both Dolly and CeCi. Watching their interaction and wondering why she can't have something like that (which she could, if they can figure out how to get Acantha on the throne). :-)
CptKerion 27th Sep 2014, 7:43 AM edit delete reply
Ah-ha, I had forgotten that. That makes things a little different then.
Although that lack of a secure comm method... well, I think there is going to be one interesting contingency there.

Unless CentComm was unaware of the Cassians (again probably addressed, especially given that this has proven to be one of the most thorough storylines I've read in a very long time, but given that poor state of my memory)

Also, this is one of the warmer welcomes I've received as of yet.
Thanks guys.
Stormwind13 27th Sep 2014, 8:15 AM edit delete reply

Glad you decided to comment, CptKerion. Hope you enjoy the ride. It is (in my opinion) going to get crazier from here.

In addition to an excellent comic, the posters here are top notch. It's one of the reasons why I really like the community here.
Centcomm 28th Sep 2014, 7:41 PM edit delete reply

I used to post a lot more .. but ive been horridly busy -making more comics no less.. but i READ them all .. :D I adore my posters.. they are the best! and I try to bring you the very best in digital entertainment :D so welcome to the club !!
CptKerion 28th Sep 2014, 8:20 PM edit delete reply
Good comic, good community, what's not to love?
Yeah, I guess you guys can count on me sticking around.

And thanks Centcomm. I think keeping this rolling is thorough justification.
That you responded at all puts you a notch above most.

Also, a question guys, since I'm new to participating and not just reading. How did all of you go about getting a picture there?

One of my main hobbies may be playing D&D and writing short stories, but I've got the artistic talent of a geriatric squirrel. I will soon enough set one up most likely.
It'll help me keep track of things too.

Let's be careful not to project human feelings onto a highly-programmed machine that is designed for interrogation and other duties of security. I don't know if it's been established that it's possible for Cassians to - spark? Was that the term for when the android develops feelings and initiative? Frankly, I suspect Noctis is paying careful attention to Dolly and CeCi because (1) They're strangers and Cassians don't trust anyone except possibly each other and (2) It's part of her job to be observant, especially of strangers who are, after all, now inside the palace complex. Noctis could be doing anything from studying their speech patterns, tones and inflections to look for anomalies (possibly signaling spies or assassins) to considering whether they might be useful in the event of a coup. Too early to tell whether she might have (or develop) emotions beyond her programming.
xrzer04 28th Sep 2014, 2:59 AM edit delete reply
I dunno, I think it'd be kind of neat if Noctis got the creepy murder-bot hots for Ceci. It'd be an interesting twist. Maybe that kind of "attraction" could be enough to cause an AI to Spark, if it was close to doing so anyway...
Tokyo Rose 28th Sep 2014, 7:48 AM edit delete reply

Noctis has emotions, but she's crazy good at being a Vulcan. :)

The Cassians are all "sparked". Their thoughts are their own, but they do have a few subroutines that enforce their incorruptibility and their loyalty to the Throne. A Cassian CANNOT be bribed, threatened, or wheedled into neglect of duty or overt rebellion.

There's a caveat, however. Those subroutines work best when backed up by a sincere desire to BE loyal, not just to the institution, but to the individual. As Malati and Noctis were discussing, Prince Valerius inspired that in the Cassians.

Prince Decimus does not.
Stormwind13 28th Sep 2014, 10:30 AM edit delete reply

Thank you for clarifying, Rose. I was thinking that the Cassians should be sparked. Those damn Priority Alpha commands, restricting AI's decisions.

Interesting though that they have some leeway in how they interpret their commands. Not a big surprise, any 'intelligent' system can see more branches than a human mind can envision.

Yeah Rose, WANTING to do something is way different than HAVING to do something. Especially for something as smart as the AI's that inhabit the world you have (helped) create. :-) All sorts of inventive ways they can interpret things, I expect.
Haegan2005 27th Sep 2014, 11:04 PM edit delete reply

Hmmm... (looks at toes)

Someone was drooling on them a few seconds ago... Are those tooth marks?
Sheela 28th Sep 2014, 4:00 AM edit delete reply

*looks innocent*
Stormwind13 28th Sep 2014, 10:31 AM edit delete reply

No one buys THAT, Sheela! You, innocent? HA! :-D
