Okay, I have a feeling about Malati... I'm thinking 16 year old screaming boy band fanatic equivalent here!

And I have a funny feeling that Dolly and the bag of chips have a silent(mostly) watcher now!

Hey, someone nibbled on my toes when I was distracted reading the comic!
Sheela 2nd Oct 2014, 11:54 PM edit delete reply

*looks very innocent*
velvetsanity 3rd Oct 2014, 2:32 AM edit delete reply

I'd equate gladiators more with rock stars than with boy bands

I would've never guessed that Malati's a groupie at heart.
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:17 AM edit delete reply

at Velvet .. you got it they are indeed like Rock stars..
velvetsanity 3rd Oct 2014, 5:15 PM edit delete reply

Are any of them descended from wrestlers? :D
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:16 AM edit delete reply

hehe yes Malati likes the gladiators..
Sheela 4th Oct 2014, 3:09 AM edit delete reply

She likes them alot !

She also likes to lick honey off, of their abs.
Dragonrider 2nd Oct 2014, 9:11 PM edit delete reply

Ceci should make goo-goo eyes at Malati and call her Mommy.
mjkj 3rd Oct 2014, 2:48 AM edit delete reply

Seconded
Dragonrider 3rd Oct 2014, 10:40 AM edit delete reply

Also we get a panel by panel replay of the resulting action.
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:17 AM edit delete reply

LOL :D
velvetsanity 2nd Oct 2014, 9:12 PM edit delete reply

I'm getting the impression that even the Cassians want drekhead gone :D
Stormwind13 3rd Oct 2014, 3:01 AM edit delete reply

Counting the seconds even, velvet.

And Rose if Malati's line about Nox was you, take a bow. It had me laughing.
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:17 AM edit delete reply

it was all Rose.. I had something similar but not as funny :D
hoppy 3rd Oct 2014, 2:46 PM edit delete reply
It has been strongly implied that he killed his parents; Cassian primary directive protect the imperial family.
They have to guard him and take orders from him.
I think there are very few who want to kill him more than the ones we have seen.
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 4:10 PM edit delete reply

I cant really say much on this one .. yet.
XRzer04@hotmail.com 2nd Oct 2014, 9:22 PM edit delete reply
I see a very human Kohai / Senpai relationship here. I wonder about the organizational structure going on with the cassians, about Noctis's position within it. Is she the leader of this unit? How long have they been continuously operating anyway? It seems they've all developed very distinct personalities and found their way into close familiarity with them. Is this just programming at work. Can one Spark and still be Bound by Directives? (If they were physically installed somehow, maybe...) But all this throwing-of-panties business, Is this a very sophisticated machine emulating what humans would do according to the personality template it has chosen to take on in order to be more effective, or is that just a hopelessly primitive notion of machine intelligence in this era?
Tokyo Rose 2nd Oct 2014, 10:57 PM edit delete reply

Q: Is Noctis the leader of this unit?
A: No; Kali leads the Cassians. Noctis is one of her lieutenants, however.

Q: How long have the Cassians been continuously operating?
A: As a unit, they've been around since before Aurelian's rebellion.

Q: Can one Spark and still be bound by directives?
A: Yes. To quote myself from the comments for the previous page--The Cassians are all fully sparked androids, not "machines" or "robots" by the general definition of the DC world. They are completely independent, thinking beings. They are effectively slaves, implanted with control devices to make them physical puppets and subjected to powerful conditioning regimens to make overt rebellion and disloyalty impossible.

No, Malati isn't just emulating a behavior template of some kind. :)
Sheela 2nd Oct 2014, 11:57 PM edit delete reply

Indeed.

Malati just REALLY likes to fling her undergarments at "hulking, sweaty, virile gladiators, who posesses a square jaw and flowing golden hair."
Hrmm .. I wonder if she would throw her panties at MArcus, if she met him ? He is buildt rather like a tank after all.
Stormwind13 3rd Oct 2014, 3:03 AM edit delete reply

To me, Sheela, it sounds more like Malati goes for Thor than someone with more 'mortal' dimensions like Marcus.
Sheela 3rd Oct 2014, 5:14 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, but Marcus isn't bad looking , and he's not surrounded by a flock of groupies either.

Besides, he can take a lot more damage than the wrestler can, I bet.
And Malati might be a bit .. rough .. on her boytoys.
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:21 AM edit delete reply

Rose pretty much answered all of those questions.. But yes Kali is the leader and Noctis is one of her seconds.. Malati would be like a Sargent. or something..
Morgan Walter Champion 2nd Oct 2014, 9:23 PM edit delete reply
Everybody with half a brain wants drekhead gone...
Sheela 2nd Oct 2014, 11:58 PM edit delete reply

And someone is even counting down the heartbeats of Drekhead. XD
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:21 AM edit delete reply

he doesn't get a lot of likes on his face book page
Stormwind13 3rd Oct 2014, 2:57 PM edit delete reply

I'm surprised Kali would let Douchebag HAVE one... It would be forever getting defaced and hacked I would think. :-)
Haegan2005 3rd Oct 2014, 5:21 PM edit delete reply

I think that Kali would have no issues with him having a facebook. The rage he would get every time it was destroyed would give her all the warm fuzzies she could handle all day!

Decimus: "WHY DO I NOT HAVE THE HIGHEST SCORE IN 'CANDY CRUSH'?! WHAT TREASON IS THIS?!"

Sheela help! I don't have anything to say!
Mister Black 3rd Oct 2014, 10:30 PM edit delete reply

Actually, he probably does get lots of "Likes" ("deperiretae"?). There are always people trying to score points with important folks..
Sheela 4th Oct 2014, 3:13 AM edit delete reply

Aw, don't panic Haegan, you don't *need* to say something - Just go with the flow!
Just like Decimus' dead body would do, if you dumped it in the river. :)

And yeah, his facebook page would probably get a lot of "brown noses" rather than actual "likes".
XRzer04 2nd Oct 2014, 9:26 PM edit delete reply
well crap. copy/paste fail. I was Trying to get my Gravatar to show up, I think it did before, and I know it's linked to this email address. I did NOT mean to tell it to the whole board...
Cent, Rose? Any insights into this gravatar thing? What am I missing?
mjkj 3rd Oct 2014, 2:58 AM edit delete reply

Yes, gravatar is bound to the email address - maybe also to the nickname.

But this site is part of comicfury and as such using the avatars from there. Since I am always logged in I do not know what the posting form looks like without. Does it say "get a gravatar" next to the nickname/email field? If not it does not use gravatar - therefore it does not display the gravatars either.

Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:22 AM edit delete reply

Make a comic fury account and you will have a awesome avatar :D and those subscriptions help !

jamie59 2nd Oct 2014, 9:40 PM edit delete reply

Sheela 2nd Oct 2014, 11:59 PM edit delete reply

.. in bed! :D
Phil 2nd Oct 2014, 10:13 PM edit delete reply
Awwright.. I'm gonna be the first to call it here, on the 100to1 longshot mark:

Noctis and Dolly are gonna "get involved".
They've got the whole, "I'm a guardian, you're a guardian" thing going on... they both run on anti-fun particles... they both have a penchant for really vintage chassis's..'ssss''s's's'....
they both have to look after airhead little.. droids..

come to think of it, what are they, sisters separated at incarnation? ! ? !!!!

Tokyo Rose 2nd Oct 2014, 10:59 PM edit delete reply

The only way they'd "get involved" is in a "mutual admiration of each other's professional skills and attitude" way. :D
Sheela 3rd Oct 2014, 12:01 AM edit delete reply

I could see them having a discussion about skill upgrades.

Or, as dolly's friend called them "oh-em-gee skills, now can you stop looking so .. antique?" :D
DLKmusic 3rd Oct 2014, 8:02 PM edit delete reply
Actually, the two of them would be more a "war of the queenbees" relationship
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:23 AM edit delete reply

Noctis .. like TD is only superficially complete. and shes just fine with that.
Timotheus 3rd Oct 2014, 6:17 PM edit delete reply

I'm a guardian, he's a guardian, she's a guardian, we're a guardian, wouldn't you like to be a guardian, too? Be a guardian, drink Dr. Silver's.

Well done Sheela! Well done!
Sheela 3rd Oct 2014, 5:15 AM edit delete reply

:D
mjkj 3rd Oct 2014, 2:47 AM edit delete reply

Wow, beautiful the two of them.

...and Noctis is dead on the track with Dolly - she would just have to know the name of the New Troy guardian (which she should after all that stuff she knows about her) - then that would have been a dead give away...

Poor Malati gets drafted on her day off. *lol* and she did get a bio upgrade. :D

It is funny to see Malati trying to dispose of Noctis' suspicion, though they are true.

What I am wondering about is the name of the other Cassian that changed duty with Malati: Nox. Nox means night and is the nominative, whereas Noctis is the genitive. But since in latin even the names are declined that would lead to a lot of confusion...

And I love Noctis' deadpan way she tells poor Malati her evening is thrashed... :D

Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 4:14 AM edit delete reply

Noun

nox f (genitive noctis); third declension

night (period of time)

Nox pars obscura diei est.

The night is a dim part of the day.

darkness
A dream
(figuratively) confusion
(figuratively) ignorance
(figuratively) death

Stormwind13 3rd Oct 2014, 3:06 AM edit delete reply

Noctis is entirely TOO perceptive for my peace of mind. She is seeing the truth, but can't 'logically' get from point A to point B.
Phil 3rd Oct 2014, 8:14 AM edit delete reply
Oh, she's already "logically" there. Her issue is getting *provably* there.
(proove? prove? gah)
Stormwind13 3rd Oct 2014, 2:03 PM edit delete reply

That is where her logic is stopping her, Phil. She sees something, but it doesn't add up. Dolly (DOL-E224) is an android and Dolores is a human being, cyber enhanced but HUMAN.

So they can't be same person, but something is crying in the darkness that they are to Noctis. You can't turn Pinocchio into a real boy (or Dolly into a human woman), as far as Noctis knows. So she is getting ready to 'investigate' that feeling, using the murdering Malati as her agent I think.
DizzasterJuice 3rd Oct 2014, 5:53 AM edit delete reply

Noctis lacks the proper equipment?!! Denied! There goes all my fantasies about her...
The best dialogue yet in that last panel.
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:27 AM edit delete reply

Awww
VanEzzania 3rd Oct 2014, 6:02 AM edit delete reply

Chain-mail thong.... that's got to be uncomfortable.
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:26 AM edit delete reply

hehe I knew a gal that actually wore one .. It wasn't too bad according to her.
Stormwind13 3rd Oct 2014, 2:06 PM edit delete reply

Just like regular chainmail, Van. You have to wear something underneath to keep it from pinching delicate parts. :-D
Timotheus 3rd Oct 2014, 10:28 PM edit delete reply

Speaking as an armorer (and I knew some people who made chainmail bikinis), the real trick was to use small rings, weld or solder the ends together so the rings couldn't spread, and make sure all the burrs and rough edges were sanded smooth. After that they were rather comfortable (I was told).
Mark_L_A 15th May 2015, 8:27 AM edit delete reply

Making chain mail is one of my hobbies. I've made a few chain mail bikini's. The hardest part is actually getting the lining right. I can't just go off a stretchy suit. It stretches. Metal chain mail doesn't.

And to make it more comfortable to wear I throw it in a tumbler polisher with some 190 grit stones for a few hours. The problem then is the stones wear off the zinc galvanizing coat so unless it is taken care of properly it will rust.

"Anti-Fun Reactor"!!
Stever 3rd Oct 2014, 6:46 AM edit delete reply

Poor thing, she needs more chances to fling undergarments XD
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:25 AM edit delete reply

She really does..
Sheela 3rd Oct 2014, 2:58 PM edit delete reply

Flinging undergarments at hot dudes is a timehonored tradition !
Outlaw 3rd Oct 2014, 8:05 AM edit delete reply

I really dig Panel 2. The red effect you used looks incredible.
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:25 AM edit delete reply

That is a point light generateing that effect it came out very nicely :D
KarToon12 3rd Oct 2014, 8:07 AM edit delete reply

Noctis' last line made me laugh so hard. XD
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 11:24 AM edit delete reply

Rose kicks butt in the dialogue dept.. :D
Tokyo Rose 3rd Oct 2014, 6:14 PM edit delete reply

Noctis keeps all of her weapons, including humor and sarcasm, well-concealed!
Sheela 4th Oct 2014, 3:17 AM edit delete reply

And she's perfectly capable of making you laugh, or killing you, with all three.

So watch out, or she will make you laugh with her guns, and kill you with her puns!
Matt Knab 3rd Oct 2014, 12:29 PM edit delete reply

Love Malati, but I have to admit "That is a data point outside the scope of my inquiry" wins for best line today. :)
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 4:09 PM edit delete reply

hehe I loved that line :D
antrik 11th Oct 2016, 2:03 PM edit delete reply
I wonder whether that's her way of saying "too much information", or just plain "don't care"...
jas 3rd Oct 2014, 12:45 PM edit delete reply

Okay, that has to be some of the most fun dialogue I have read so far in this webcomic! And the art is awesome, too. :)
Centcomm 3rd Oct 2014, 4:10 PM edit delete reply

then we both take bows :D
Sheela 4th Oct 2014, 3:24 AM edit delete reply

*adds arrows to the mix*
CptKerion 3rd Oct 2014, 6:43 PM edit delete reply
Ah sarcasm, the weapon and past time of the oppressed everywhere.
Anti-Fun reactor indeed.
The Old Scribe 3rd Oct 2014, 9:43 PM edit delete reply

So, now Dolly and Ceci have a shadow following them around New Troy. This should prove to be interesting. I wonder how long it will be before they notice they're being followed and what they'll do about it. Ceci may well need that built-in Plasma beam projector before this adventure is over.
Sheela 4th Oct 2014, 3:28 AM edit delete reply

The hunter shall become the hunted, and the prey shall become the hunter ?

That would be an interesting situation, where Noctis and Malati gets shadowed by Dolly and CeCi, while Noctis and Malati complains about not being able to find Dolly and CeCi !

... and then CeCi would sneak up on them and say "HI !" in her most happy and bubbly cheerleader voice.

That would mess with their heads *so* much. :D
They would ashamed and all, but secretly, they would love it.
Finally an opponent as skilled as themselves!
DLKmusic 3rd Oct 2014, 11:42 PM edit delete reply
If you could give up what little time you have left to follow a hunch that may or may not lead anywhere at all..... that would be great....

(I'm getting flashbacks to that movie, god help me)
