Go Dolly. Teach that scumbag a lesson.
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:52 AM edit delete reply

She intends on it :D

Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:52 AM edit delete reply

Damn right :D
Thor 20th Nov 2014, 10:10 PM edit delete reply
I'm beginning to think this comic is prejudiced against scumbags. Won't someone please think of the scumbags?
anonymous coward 20th Nov 2014, 11:18 PM edit delete reply
Indeed, scumbags are people too. Awful people whose power to be shits should be limited, but people deserving of life, health and happiness almost as much as other people.
Tokyo Rose 20th Nov 2014, 11:22 PM edit delete reply

I do think of the scumbags! Ways to correct their behavior won't dream themselves up! >)
Sheela 21st Nov 2014, 4:04 AM edit delete reply

Ah, then you should bring in Teedee as a ... "correctional officer" to lighten your workload, Rose. :D
mjkj 21st Nov 2014, 10:23 AM edit delete reply

Are you volunteering, Thor?
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:52 AM edit delete reply

Sorry Dolly is allergic to stupidity and cruelty ..
anonymous coward 22nd Nov 2014, 4:31 AM edit delete reply
She may not like others being cruel, but she's being at least a little bit unnecessarily cruel here herself I'd say.
Aetrun 21st Nov 2014, 1:37 PM edit delete reply
We do think of the scumbags.
We think of the scumbags that poisoned humanity (and the planet) and ruined its reproductive capacity.
We think of the scumbags that almost destroyed the planet through war.
We think of the scumbags that delayed the 'sparking' of AIs because they were too busy being in charge and running things to let the AIs think properly.
Considering all that, when we see scumbags like this, I'd say Dolly is letting him off easy.
Dragonrider 20th Nov 2014, 10:16 PM edit delete reply

Who is this they?
Sheela 21st Nov 2014, 4:04 AM edit delete reply

We will probably be told in next update.

However, I would guess the people she owe body debt to.
Dragonrider 21st Nov 2014, 9:03 AM edit delete reply

In that case I would assume they are about on the level with this douchebag. Dealing with the scum of society that regular shops won't deal with.
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:55 AM edit delete reply

Android contracts are put out by NTAS ( New Troy Andriod Services )and are normally overseen by humans and androids and much like CPS they are overworked and do the best they can.

But sometimes contracts get bought by bad people or perhaps the Android didn't think they were that bad. and mistakes happen.
Skweeee 20th Nov 2014, 10:49 PM edit delete reply

Fuck yeah! That's what I'm talking about! I will never get enough of stories with douchebags getting what they deserve. The more humiliating for them the better.
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:55 AM edit delete reply

Then sit back .. you are in for a treat :D
Hydrargyrum 21st Nov 2014, 5:34 PM edit delete reply

I'm curious as to how Dolly isn't violating the laws she's citing. Perhaps it's just New Troy is enough of a police state to look the other way regarding brutality or excessive force used by vigilantes or the police. Not quite clear which capacity Dolly's acting in here but, in regards of the morals she's citing, her actions certainly look hypocritical at this point in the arc.
velvetsanity 21st Nov 2014, 8:46 PM edit delete reply

Hydrargyrum, that's easy. Licensed Security Professional. Special licenses and permits apply. Kind of like how lawyers, doctors, and even private investigators and bail bondsmen have to have special licenses and permits to do their jobs.

Dolly is acting to protect another person, which means her licenses and permits as a bodyguard apply to the situation.
Hydrargyrum 22nd Nov 2014, 12:08 AM edit delete reply

That's the state condoning use of excessive force, as mentioned. (Well, unless you're envisioning another licensing body, which seems improbable in CentComm town.)
velvetsanity 22nd Nov 2014, 8:48 AM edit delete reply

Not necessarily. She's neutralizing the threat.

NTPD Officer: "What happened?"
Dolly: "He attempted to punch me. I blocked. As my body is a combat model, it's built to withstand a great deal of force. The impact of his attempted punch seems to have broken his hand. Please see to it that he receives appropriate medical attention."
Note: Dolly is likely still holding said hand, right until NTPD puts the cuffs on the scumbag.
Centcomm 22nd Nov 2014, 10:30 AM edit delete reply

Try punching a Secret Service man.. or a Private Security guy.or FBI Or NSA OR CIA.. im not talking about mall security .. Dolly holds a "governmental Clearance" due to her employment with the Taylors .. Her clearance is the same as Calliopes or in this case Leander Taylor Callopes father. she has this because she shows restraint and excellent decision making choices.. dumbshit here just walked up and said .. please make me look like a idiot. and Dolly said .. Ok done.
velvetsanity 22nd Nov 2014, 11:24 AM edit delete reply

Ooh, good point! As the official bodyguard of the Taylor family, Dolly's the equivalent of the Presidential detachment of the U.S. Secret Service. Which means she's an actual government agent. This particular scumbag will probably be going away for a very long time :D
DLKmusic 23rd Nov 2014, 11:37 PM edit delete reply

I'm sorry, but I don't see "excessive force" being used here. The guy threw a punch, she neutralized it, and without causing undue damage is preventing him from making another offensive move. This is well within the legal definition of "reasonable force", and not stretched to cover someone's rear.
Haegan2005 20th Nov 2014, 10:56 PM edit delete reply

At this point I see it equivalent to someone having been tazered two or three times. They tend to be real peaceable after that.

I have a feeling that he will do anything at this point to get the pain to stop. Maybe even agree to anything...

Course the next question is, does he have any buds nearby? This could get 'dynamic' really quickly!
Sheela 21st Nov 2014, 4:05 AM edit delete reply

Ah, but Dolly is able to handle "dynamic" in a moments notice.

Besides, scumbags like that are often not very good at making friends.
DLKmusic 21st Nov 2014, 6:17 PM edit delete reply

I honestly don't see Dolly letting go of his fist until the NTPD arrive....
A Prizewinner like this one would scream assault, which is a pretty hard claim to make when the only thing that is damaged was the fist that you threw.
Haegan2005 21st Nov 2014, 7:46 PM edit delete reply

I think that this guy will still try to make trouble for her. I think his success rate may be low though. The NTPD will likely take Dollys word for what happened.

Failing that I am sure she has a security camera or something running that she can download. Video is good!

And failing that, she is the guardian droid of a certain family. However it happens, this guy will not be able to make any real trouble for her.
Haegan2005 21st Nov 2014, 7:57 PM edit delete reply

It occurred to me that Dolly is used to dealing with genius level humans(ie her family). It probably spoils her when dealing with normal folks!
Centcomm 22nd Nov 2014, 10:27 AM edit delete reply

" You know how hard it is running herd on smart people? " Those are Dollys exact words....
Sheela 22nd Nov 2014, 10:33 AM edit delete reply

On top of that, Dolly might be ... "well known" by the New Troy Police Department.
It's probably not the first time she's brought in some douchebag like that.
Haegan2005 22nd Nov 2014, 2:16 PM edit delete reply

I can see that. I would imagine that she walks a 'beat' every now and them while 'acquiring' requested goods for Fallon and Cally.

Knowing her, her route is likely chosen deliberately as well!
Haegan2005 22nd Nov 2014, 3:03 PM edit delete reply

'" You know how hard it is running herd on smart people? " Those are Dollys exact words.... '

I would say that riding herd on the other 98% of the population is a vacation for her!
velvetsanity 22nd Nov 2014, 10:02 PM edit delete reply

Wait, so Dolly thinks that smart people are cats? Pray Garfield never meets her, she might confuse him for the next Stephen Hawking...

From that moment on, you just know he's boned.
DLKmusic 21st Nov 2014, 10:48 AM edit delete reply

LOL, when she said "last chance to leave" and he ignored that sage advice.... You kinda figured whatever happened to him after that point is on his own head.

Skydog88 20th Nov 2014, 11:48 PM edit delete reply
Speaking of Blade Runner - it looks like New Troy Police also think some Androids may need to be "Retired", possibly thru judicious use of kinetic weapons? Nice cameo advert, Cent! (or was that Rose?)
Sheela 21st Nov 2014, 4:08 AM edit delete reply

I noticed the advert too (hard to miss), and I think it's more a case of there had been some nasty cases with androids/robots going HAL9000 and killing a bunch of people.

Something like that would make even the nicest person a lot more careful. Besides, I think even the androids/robots would want their glitches fixed if there indeed are some, they'd be genuinely sad if they ended up killing humans or even .. *gasp* .. other androids!
DLKmusic 21st Nov 2014, 10:46 AM edit delete reply

I don't know if anyone is familiar with it, but there's a short story by Alfred Bester written in the 50's called "Fondly Ferenheit". based on our two intros to Minx here when she was being abused, it brought that story to mind for some reason.
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:57 AM edit delete reply

sometimes things break down.. and Robots and Androids can act erratic or even insane when this gets to be too bad all they can do is take down the Android or Robot.
They will try to fix or help them but sometimes they have to take the hard road.
Tokyo Rose 21st Nov 2014, 5:00 PM edit delete reply

I think it's really aimed more towards "if you see a robot that's clearly damaged or not functioning properly, let the right people know so it can be fixed or replaced". Note: robot, NOT android. Having an actual "android retirement squad" would be exactly the same as having a fucking public death squad around. >_<
Centcomm 22nd Nov 2014, 10:23 AM edit delete reply

Andriods are considered "people" not Machines by the eyes of the law.. the "retirement Squad" is similar to Cyberpunks "Cyberpsycho Squad" who handle things far beyond what NTPD or NT-SwAT can handle. while is IS possible for a robot or Android to go on a murderous rampage it happens so rarely that the "squad" consists of a single Android sitting at a desk most of the time. and they draft extra people as needed from Mil-Sec...

Kamy 21st Nov 2014, 3:07 AM edit delete reply

Why do I hear Rose when Dolly talks in this story ?
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:58 AM edit delete reply

because shes being snarky ..
Stormwind13 21st Nov 2014, 4:21 PM edit delete reply

Can't be Rose, Kamy. No cuss words are involved. :-D
Stever 21st Nov 2014, 7:15 AM edit delete reply

Hehe, she's great at explaining things ;D
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:58 AM edit delete reply

well she is a teacher :D
Stormwind13 21st Nov 2014, 4:23 PM edit delete reply

You beat me to it, CentComm. Yes, she is going to teach this scumbag a lesson... a PAINFUL lesson. He better learn from it or Dolly will 'visit' him again to make the lesson stick (or what little brains he has to the wall).

A teacher with a master's degree of "Physical Education"
KarToon12 21st Nov 2014, 7:57 AM edit delete reply

Funny to see Dolly beating up on the guy, right next to a poster that says "report any malfunctions".
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:58 AM edit delete reply

thats why i did that :D
jas 21st Nov 2014, 8:39 AM edit delete reply

What? Dolly take *gasp!* sadistic pleasure from inflicting bone-crunching "correction" on an abusive creep? Perish the thought (or abusive creep)!

I have to admit, her smirk caught me by surprise, too. XD
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 11:59 AM edit delete reply

Minx was taking pleasure :D Dolly is pleased as well .. she LIKES teaching lessons to jackasses like this ..
Rms2000 21st Nov 2014, 9:38 AM edit delete reply

It just occured to me, but shouldn't dolly be in a model 2-E body at this point?
Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 12:00 PM edit delete reply

In Story - she has been upgraded to a 3- A

out of story reason .. the older model I used no longer works effectively and looks like crap.. :D
mjkj 21st Nov 2014, 10:22 AM edit delete reply

Wow, my money was right, he is that stupid. :D

Go, Dolly, help Minx out of that deliberate misinformation...

...hmm, I guess that is the bunch of droits TeeDee usually hangs out with, in that ad, is it?

Centcomm 21st Nov 2014, 12:01 PM edit delete reply

Teedee likes hanging out with the Mil sec guys and the older war droids on standby in New Troys cold storage. they have lots of fun storys.. :D
Stormwind13 21st Nov 2014, 4:24 PM edit delete reply

No, no mjkj. She hangs out with battle vets... The ones shown in the ad are just... associates she's met a couple times. :-D
CptKerion 21st Nov 2014, 12:22 PM edit delete reply
I almost want to see a video montage of all the scenes where some guy like that gets his ass kicked to "another one bites the dust"
Aetrun 21st Nov 2014, 1:34 PM edit delete reply
I would want plenty of scenes of Prince Douchebag being 'corrected' by Maxus first.

Stormwind13 21st Nov 2014, 4:41 PM edit delete reply

As damaged as the breeding population was, Rash I don't think that CentComm has had the opportunity to weed out ANY genes that can reproduce. Eventually when the population gets stabilized, she'll probably attend to that though. :-)
Centcomm 22nd Nov 2014, 10:21 AM edit delete reply

Correct Storm.. but that can take literally hundreds of years..
Stormwind13 22nd Nov 2014, 2:22 PM edit delete reply

And CentComm still plans on being around to revisit the problem, when those hundreds of years have elapsed. :-)
Rashala 22nd Nov 2014, 3:22 PM edit delete reply

I'll make you a list of some-suggested- genetic traits you will wanna weed out.

DEcimus's And Stupid are number 1 and 2
Draginbeard 21st Nov 2014, 7:46 PM edit delete reply

Dolly should of had taken his wrist and turned it back on him.

"Hey, why do you keep hitting yourself?

That must hurt!

"Ow, now you need a dentist! You really shouldn't punch yourself in the face like that!"
Stormwind13 21st Nov 2014, 7:51 PM edit delete reply

Still time for that, Draginbeard. The night is still young.
DLKmusic 21st Nov 2014, 9:02 PM edit delete reply

that would sound really painful with every bone in his hand broken....
Draginbeard 22nd Nov 2014, 12:45 AM edit delete reply

I was just kidding.

I don't see Dolly going any further than absolutely necessary. To me, she is more of a protector.

Now, if we were talking about Malati or TeeDee...

I see Malati grabbing this guys other hand, making him hit himself with that, then keep the joke going with him kicking himself, and concluding a head slamming chuckle, until there was nothing but bloody jelly left.

Then she would probably complain (with a smirk) about how he messed up her shoes.

TeeDee would (in a best case scenario) beat him straight on within inch of his life. No warning, no lecture, no joke.

Centcomm 22nd Nov 2014, 10:21 AM edit delete reply

Right on all counts - Dolly may WANT to pound this guy into a fine red Mist.. but she WONT.. hes already done. This.. is a holding action.. Shes stalling. and she is more than tough enough to pretty much ignore anything he does.. its the benny of having a body made of carbon nano-mail with liquid kevlar under that. this body of Dollys IS superhuman small arms can hurt her.. they can even kill her - but on average they wont. and shes fast enough to not be a target.
Sheela 22nd Nov 2014, 10:40 AM edit delete reply

Not like her new body isn't fast though.
It's just not quite as well armed & armored as her old one, but it thinks a helluva lot faster.
And being able to put thought into action faster, is one heckuva dangerous combination when you have 50 years of combat experience to back you up. :D
Broen 22nd Nov 2014, 11:06 AM edit delete reply
Well I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you slightly, Dolly is not acting like someone with 50 years of combat experience right now, her standing there lecturing this guy like that is at best likely to earn her a punch in the mouth and at worse the guy pulls a weapon from somewhere which Cent just said really could kill her. Take his arm, jack it behind his back get the other arm and pin him to the ground till the cops get there and be done with it.
Centcomm 22nd Nov 2014, 11:11 AM edit delete reply

Here .. Dolly is angry shes already scanned him for heat and energy sigs ( none ) so she knows hes not armed with a energy weapon thermal shows no guns.. so all hes got is fists.. and shes :controlling him with pressure she has not "crushed" that hand.. although he probably thinks she has- as angry as she is .. she isn't stupid. and should he even try to get up or something worse she would turn his hand in a way that makes thought imposable.
Boren 22nd Nov 2014, 10:01 PM edit delete reply
See the problem with thinking like that is you never truly know what someone can do or can be hiding, Taking myself as an example I was required to take a training class for one of my jobs, the instructor calls me up and demonstrates how to properly apply an arm bar restraint. Once he has the hold firmly in place he asks if I can get out of it, and I stood right up so fast he literally jumped back and away from me. I'm just saying from the perspective of someone who has done this in real life she's doing this vary wrong, and one mistake can be your last.
Stormwind13 23rd Nov 2014, 7:13 AM edit delete reply

You are seeing mistakes Dolly might be making. I'm seeing mistakes that scumbag DID make, Boren. Dolly already proved she was faster than he was. Already proved that she was willing to take action. And already told him that the police were on the way and he still took a swing at her? That doesn't speak to me of much in the way of brains nor in the way of training that could make him dangerous to someone like Dolly.
Boren 23rd Nov 2014, 9:36 AM edit delete reply
What those things make him Storm is cornered and desperate, and that is the most dangerous animal in the world. That's why you just don't take the chance; you put him on the ground you put him in a hard control hold and you wait.
Stormwind13 23rd Nov 2014, 1:14 PM edit delete reply

I see a lost little boy wanting his mommy now. He thought he was a dangerous animal, now he knows better.

He is down and controlled. Different techniques for different people with different training.
RavenHawk 23rd Nov 2014, 2:32 PM edit delete reply
Boren I believe your wrong. Dolly has caused pain (blood running down his hand) to bring him to his knees. So much he probably does not even know that his other hand is resting on Dollys middle holding him self up.
RavenHawk 23rd Nov 2014, 2:42 PM edit delete reply
Though when Dolly talks to Minx. She release pressure on his hand, allowing him to look up & to grip her hand. But, I really do not believe he has it in him to do any thing else stupid. But only Rose & Cent know just how stupid this guy really is.
Sheela 23rd Nov 2014, 7:33 PM edit delete reply

First of, at the time of this story arch, she probably only had 35 years of experience and not 50, as it seems to be set in the bast while Fallon is still alive, so about 15 years past I'm guessing. But that's still 35 years of experience, while he probably has naught.

Secondly, she is a heavily armored combat guardian android, that is *much* faster than her opponent. So she could easily disarm him in time, before he could hurt her with any sort of weapon.

Thirdly, he cannot, hurt her in fisticuffs, in any way at all.

With those three things in mind, she can be relaxed about this and still be safe.
Especially her additional speed, strength and armor makes her a formidable enemy.
Boren 23rd Nov 2014, 11:01 PM edit delete reply
The point I'm trying to make here and that everyone seems to be missing is miscalculate any of that, even once and you're vary possibly dead. I'm speaking from real life training and experience here and yes while it looks like she has things 110% under control if she's wrong she's dead and that's what I'm trying to say; never assume your opponent "isn't capable" of anything, because you can be right 10,000 times but be wrong once and it's game over for you.
Sheela 24th Nov 2014, 10:55 AM edit delete reply

Ah, but if she's wrong and she seriously damage, she can be reloaded into a new body.
There are advantages to being an android.

But yeah, point well made - Luckily, comics are different from real life, so Dolly should be safe enough.
Speedy Marsh 20th Mar 2017, 11:34 AM edit delete reply
Boren, I'm sure Dolly is aware of that. She's probably learned from experience that making it appear that she can take him down absentmindedly will be more intimidating than doing a textbook takedown.

She doesn't want him to think that she only beat him because she was lucky or because she took him by surprise. She wants him to soil his shorts, next time he thinks of reoffending. She's most likely willing to put herself in a bit more danger now, if it will keep him from attacking someone else, when she's not around.

Anyway, she's probably calculating every way he could possibly move, and determining the best counter for each.

She appears to be distracted by Minx, in the last panel, but she's most likely actually checking to see if Jerkwad has any friends that could pose a threat, or if there are any witnesses that could make it inconvenient for NTPD and Centcomm to overlook her hands-on disciplinary techniques.
Rashala 22nd Nov 2014, 3:23 PM edit delete reply
