I guess TeeDee is an Uneasy Rider? :-D
Darkside 12th Dec 2014, 8:14 AM edit delete reply
lol that made my day, fitting song for the situation
Sheela 11th Dec 2014, 9:15 PM edit delete reply

Curious, Dr Silver can speed talk ?
velvetsanity 11th Dec 2014, 9:46 PM edit delete reply

I'm sure she's as augmented as Marcus but in different ways.
Haegan2005 11th Dec 2014, 9:59 PM edit delete reply

I'm thinking shortwave radio?
Tokyo Rose 11th Dec 2014, 10:09 PM edit delete reply

Doctor Silver has certain advantages, yup. :)
Sheela 12th Dec 2014, 4:47 AM edit delete reply

I guess human speech to speed talk wouldn't be that hard .. simply have an implant that "records" a piece of inner monologue and translate it into speed talk, and push it out of a little speaker.

It's the other way around that it would be difficult.
mjkj 12th Dec 2014, 9:04 AM edit delete reply

Well, obviously she can receive speed talk but is sending on their dedicated (battle-)group frequency...
Pirtnac 12th Dec 2014, 8:49 PM edit delete reply
I've noticed androids tend to use speed talk to vent or say whatever they don't want humans to hear. I'm certain that Dr Silver's role as part time android psychologist means she needs to know if the android she's been helping with anxiety is broadcasting (AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!) while calmly speaking about how okay they are.
Sheela 13th Dec 2014, 5:28 AM edit delete reply

That's actually a really good point, you make there.
I reckon Dr Silvers job would get rather frustrating from time to time, if she couldn't understand speed talk.
Haegan2005 11th Dec 2014, 9:15 PM edit delete reply

The guard has a point. Even though this page still did not lend to foreshadowing, I am still waiting to see what happens! So many possibilities!

What may kick this off is the neanderthal taking Connie outside where the crew can see the bruise developing on her face.
Sheela 12th Dec 2014, 7:50 PM edit delete reply

Well, the neanderthal thinks Connie is just a piece of malfunctioning hardware, little does he know.
Stormwind13 11th Dec 2014, 9:23 PM edit delete reply

Where is Marcus? He seems to be curiously absent.

And Dr. Silver could probably take these guys. I mean, if she has her orbs of doom come out to play.

Rose, that is a great line, "Frog" :-D
jamie59 11th Dec 2014, 9:30 PM edit delete reply

Teedee you better get to pissing.
Dragonrider 11th Dec 2014, 9:40 PM edit delete reply

Say good bye to Connie for the nonce, she is going to the Nova Roma equivalent of the Jawa Harvester.
velvetsanity 11th Dec 2014, 9:59 PM edit delete reply

Quick, someone call Maxus!
CptKerion 11th Dec 2014, 11:56 PM edit delete reply
Yeah... he'd tell the idiots to remember their sensitivity training and actually handle the situation like professionals, not hired thugs.
velvetsanity 12th Dec 2014, 3:23 AM edit delete reply

Yep! And he'd 'tell' them the way he 'told' drekhead to keep his hands off of Acantha and Lynn :D
Dragonrider 12th Dec 2014, 9:10 AM edit delete reply

Problem is they are hired thugs these are not Praetorian Guard.
Draginbeard 11th Dec 2014, 10:08 PM edit delete reply

Gonna give it a minute before declaring the mission pear-shaped. But its nice to see these security officers living up to their job descriptions.

This mission is definitely no cake walk. Seeing how this team handles themselves when the plan wiggles the wrong way should be fun. I doubt we will see Max just yet. He has his own agenda to tend.
Fairportfan 11th Dec 2014, 10:26 PM edit delete reply

There speaks a man who isn't all that happy with what he's doing, either.
DLKmusic 12th Dec 2014, 12:01 AM edit delete reply

I wanna know who's the commander of the imperial troops here... the thug beating up Connie, or the the Dufus Talking to Mr. Black... If it's Optio Selius, I would have his Imperial Arse for not knowing who is under his command better than he does, and letting a thug like that loose without supervision. If it's our favorite Zealot, I would have HIS Imperial Arse for not dealing with the the customs agent, WHICH IS HIS JOB as the commander.
Either way, Can you say.. "SNAFU"? I knew ya could!
anonymous coward 12th Dec 2014, 3:47 AM edit delete reply
" I divide my officers into four groups. There are clever, diligent, stupid, and lazy officers. Usually two characteristics are combined. Some are clever and diligent -- their place is the General Staff. The next lot are stupid and lazy -- they make up 90 percent of every army and are suited to routine duties. Anyone who is both clever and lazy is qualified for the highest leadership duties, because he possesses the intellectual clarity and the composure necessary for difficult decisions. One must beware of anyone who is stupid and diligent -- he must not be entrusted with any responsibility because he will always cause only mischief. "
What if the commander has no choice because the zealot is his second in command by rank? In any case, you might be expecting too much of army troops either way: These folks are trained and employed for violence and intimidation, and that attracts certain kinds. There's only so much you can do to tame a system that is basically designed to give the people in charge a supply of organized thugs to oppress, suppress or kill people they don't like.
Some Ed 4th Jun 2017, 8:12 PM edit delete reply
No mention of those who are clever and stupid?

It happens a lot more often than most people would expect. Though probably some of these come across as stupid and lazy. I mean, like other clever people, they'll try to get out of doing various tasks by automating them. Just... it won't go quite right, for some reason that would be obvious to the non-stupid clever, and would seem obvious to the non-stupid non-clever.
mjkj 11th Dec 2014, 11:56 PM edit delete reply

Hmm, that might get hairy...
Stormwind13 12th Dec 2014, 8:39 PM edit delete reply

Yeah mjkj... hairy.
xpacetrue 11th Dec 2014, 11:57 PM edit delete reply

"...and piss JP-10 down the hole."

Haha!

At first, I thought JP-10 was a reference to a lubricant like WD-40. But, apparently, it's "gas turbine fuel for missiles"?
velvetsanity 12th Dec 2014, 7:16 PM edit delete reply

It is a type of jet fuel, yes. The army uses JP-4 as a diesel substitute, and JP-8 in their helicopters
cattservant 12th Dec 2014, 3:02 AM edit delete reply

Is it just me
or is CF dial-up slow?
Stormwind13 12th Dec 2014, 4:49 AM edit delete reply

No, it wasn't just you. It was CRAWLING yesterday. Seems okay this morning though.

Edit: And back to being ridiculously slow again in the evening. Not sure what is going on.
Hans 12th Dec 2014, 9:52 AM edit delete reply
Is it too far fetched to think, military personel looking for an android might have some bleep speak receivers?
Sheela 12th Dec 2014, 7:47 PM edit delete reply

Certainly not.
That said, Nova Roma doesn't like AI's and cybernetics and such, so they probablby don't have a lot of them around.
Stormwind13 12th Dec 2014, 8:32 PM edit delete reply

Something is going on. Mr. Black is standing there and NOT saying anything? Did the EVIL duo replace Mr. Black with some kind of android replica? Mr. Black normally has ALL kinds of things to say, after all. :-D
Sheela 13th Dec 2014, 5:30 AM edit delete reply

Considering how the shadows try to gather around his face to hide how angry he is, I'm thinking things are getting rather omnious for the guards.

sometimes, silence from a high influence person, is *not* a good thing.
Stormwind13 13th Dec 2014, 8:32 AM edit delete reply

Mr. Black isn't that high influence in Nova Roma, Sheela. He just knows several people that ARE... Indirect influence takes longer to bring into play sometimes, but still hits like a BIG hammer when it finally does arrive.
highlander55 14th Dec 2014, 7:47 AM edit delete reply

In the second panel she is citing standing law that will give her a legal complaint that should get to those in higher authority to look into this issue.
Stormwind13 14th Dec 2014, 7:24 PM edit delete reply

Very true, highlander. The problem is the Royal Doucheness sent these guys out here (from the sound of it). In Nova Roma's society, I think that trumps such MINOR considerations as laws! :-P

I fear the customs agent knows that her superiors probably can't do too much, in this situation. I guess we will have to wait and see how it plays out to know for sure. I just don't expect the customs service to be able to rein in the military bully-boys.
lala 12th Dec 2014, 10:55 PM edit delete reply
i like it! i guess http://goolge.com should hire them!
Boren 14th Dec 2014, 11:26 PM edit delete reply
Wait Androids piss jet fuel?
Stormwind13 17th Dec 2014, 7:15 PM edit delete reply

With TeeDee, Boren, it is a distinct possibility. :-D
SquallLion 16th Dec 2014, 5:45 AM edit delete reply

excellent
Caley Tibbittz Collopy 11th Jan 2015, 2:06 PM edit delete reply
