Ooooohhhhh..... sneeeeeeakyyyyyy...

I'm still not 100% clear on the details, but I can see some of it forming (I think)
Centcomm 15th Mar 2015, 9:23 PM edit delete reply

Noctis is made of sneak :D muhahah!
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 7:16 AM edit delete reply

She wears sneakers ?
Miyto 16th Mar 2015, 11:28 AM edit delete reply
This page lead me to rereading the most 'previous assignment' I found this snippet:

Maliti: 'Define alive:'
Boss lady: 'Capable of rational speech within two days of medical care'

Presuming extermination has a similarly opposing minimum requirements...
Princely 'witness' and General 'target' gives plently of leeway for a moral assassin to play with! ^^
Songgu Kwon 15th Mar 2015, 9:40 PM edit delete reply

Honey, I'm going to be home late. Emergency assassin meeting. :p
Centcomm 15th Mar 2015, 9:52 PM edit delete reply

dont mind the blood on the carpet Ill have the cleaners in tomorrow :D
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:37 AM edit delete reply

Noctis has a homegoing husband ?

Unusual.
Haegan2005 15th Mar 2015, 9:42 PM edit delete reply

Hmmm. deep waters.

This may take some thought on what is going on, but it looks like an assassination and a kidnapping. I suspect that this is why he wanted to talk to the commander of his guards. Needs a safe place to stash the terrible duo.

somehow I see Dolly getting involved in this. They have not seen anything yet, I am sure.

Of all the characters I have seen, I think Dolly is one of the most dangerous. Even Centcom agreed with this. She rated Dollies survival as obvious. "Because she is Dolly."

It is a statement to ponder I think.
Centcomm 15th Mar 2015, 9:52 PM edit delete reply

snickers .. I love watching readers figure things out :D right or wrong :D
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:38 AM edit delete reply

I'm reading it as, Attack Maxus, and bring two VIP's to safety (most likely Lynn and Acantha), but I could definately be wrong.
velvetsanity 17th Mar 2015, 4:44 AM edit delete reply

Considering that Lynn and Acantha are currently having dinner with drekhead, Setorius, etc...this is going to get extremely ugly very very quickly
Dragonrider 15th Mar 2015, 10:09 PM edit delete reply

Isn't it wonderful to watch a Palace revolution from the inside. Especially when it's the Palace that is revolting.
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:39 AM edit delete reply

Wait .. the palace is revolting ?

Dangit, what is Aeneas up to now ?
Dragonrider 16th Mar 2015, 11:51 AM edit delete reply

Carefully consider all definitions of the word revolting.
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:02 PM edit delete reply

Some say, my post was deliberately ambigious. :)
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:47 AM edit delete reply

its normally the pesents that are revolting :D
velvetsanity 17th Mar 2015, 4:45 AM edit delete reply

In this case, the peasants are among the least revolting parts of this whole mess
Sheela 17th Mar 2015, 1:31 PM edit delete reply

Well, that's mostly because Drekhead is *so* revolting, that the peasants looks like pretty flowers in comparison.
Dongaria 15th Mar 2015, 10:14 PM edit delete reply

Aggh god, Nox, I'm in love.
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:47 AM edit delete reply

Nox? really? Shes like creepy on a stick :D
Timotheus 15th Mar 2015, 10:33 PM edit delete reply

I smell a "White Mutiny". Is there "anyone" in Nova Roma unquestionably loyal to its prince? And anyone taking full and adequate precautions in attacking a certain former gladiator will probably never actually get around to actually attacking him. Warning him that he's going to be attacked, most assuredly, but actually getting to the bang, biff part, not likely. Too many loose ends.
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:44 AM edit delete reply

According to Kali, only his cat is loyal.
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:48 AM edit delete reply

Like Sheela said.. His Cat loves him :D
cattservant 17th Mar 2015, 3:28 AM edit delete reply

Still does not mean
he can trust her.
She is a cat
after all!
Sheela 17th Mar 2015, 1:32 PM edit delete reply

Yes, well ... she will probably sneak away with his dinner.
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 1:44 PM edit delete reply

if she could get away with it you bet!
Stormwind13 17th Mar 2015, 6:36 PM edit delete reply

Which is why he has her on a SHORT leash, catt.
Draginbeard 15th Mar 2015, 11:09 PM edit delete reply

Im feeling like I walked in on the middle of the conversation, so Im going to have to see this play out.
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:47 AM edit delete reply

yep its gonna get wild !
plymayer 15th Mar 2015, 11:24 PM edit delete reply

Well, if you splain it that way....
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:48 AM edit delete reply

it all makes perfect sense .. right?
DLKmusic 15th Mar 2015, 11:24 PM edit delete reply

Noctis, you have the makings of being a TRUE Machiavellian! By informing Kali of your plan, AND getting her to acknowledge agreement to it, you have made her a co-conspirator!

Bwuhahahahah!
anonymous coward 16th Mar 2015, 1:15 AM edit delete reply
I think you're a little unclear on whose plan it is: I'm pretty sure Noctis is explaining Kali's plan to the people in the room who may not have fully caught on to how she plans to subvert Prince Decimus' orders.
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:48 AM edit delete reply

Yes our dear Noctis is very very good at this :D
mjkj 15th Mar 2015, 11:45 PM edit delete reply

Gaaahhh, still so very cryptic...

I hope Malati can see the light, though...

Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:49 AM edit delete reply

Malati "has" seen the light :D
mjkj 17th Mar 2015, 6:10 AM edit delete reply

*lol*

Now make sure that the only witness is douchie - and witnesses must be eliminated... (direct douchie order) ^_^

Guest 16th Mar 2015, 12:54 AM edit delete reply
Does that "Not Fully Loyal" mean the two of them are now stuck with the emperors catgirl (what was her name again)?
After all she was the only one deemed to be "Fully Loyal" by Kali in the past.

Quote: "You still have your cat."
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:49 AM edit delete reply

Okay thats actually rather funny :D
Cperka 16th Mar 2015, 1:52 AM edit delete reply

Malati in the last strip looks so shellshocked, thinking probably "Shit, I almost got Kali pissed. AND FORGOT TO RECORD GLADIATOR FIGHT!". o_o
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:49 AM edit delete reply

hahah :D Shes never seen Noctis do something like this before :D
Greenwood Goat 16th Mar 2015, 3:24 AM edit delete reply
They're up to something! Possibilities are nebulous. Could it be...?

Malati: #Third hourly report: kept target in sight. Numerous opportunities to strike presented but rejected. The perfect opportunity will arise in time, allowing me to obtain the optimal result as desired. My target will not see me and nor shall anyone else and nor shall I leave a mark. Have patience. End.#

Kali: #ALL CASSIANS: While we were all busy on our assignments, the Emperor was assassinated. We must take steps to apprehend his killer.# #Malati: Go and interrogate the gladiators. They may know something. Use any method you consider appropriate.#

Later...

Malati: #Third daily report: no leads yet. Sweat testing: negative. Muscle stress analysis: negative. Close questioning: negative. I am beginning to think the gladiators were experiencing an unrelated stress reaction to me personally, especially when I enter the changing rooms or showers. This reaction now appears to be fading, and I may need to recalibrate my baseline. I need more time. A lot more time. Thanks, boss. End.# :-)

>:=)>
mjkj 16th Mar 2015, 4:45 AM edit delete reply

Wow, great - I wonder if any of that will make it into canon :D
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:34 AM edit delete reply

BWa ha ha ha ... yeah, Malati would need to do a lot more .. "in-depth" testing. :D
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:50 AM edit delete reply

LOL! :D
KarToon12 16th Mar 2015, 5:19 AM edit delete reply

To go along with Hagean2005's theory there, I can agree a bit. Although, I've had my suspicions about Lynn. True, she's a key figure to kidnap, to use as a barganing chip...but I still think it's probably more than that. There might be something REALLY special about her even she doesn't know. Everyone in this story has something to hide, and the same could go for her, even if she's unware she's hiding something to begin with.

I don't know; I guess I'm just expecting her to turn out to be a super advanced android or something. Or she has some important device implanted in her for safe keeping. This comic is called "DataCHASERS"...chasing data, yes...but what kind of data?
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:36 AM edit delete reply

Technically, Lynns DNA is part of the key to open up the Secret Weapon Vaults that centcomm is guarding. She and it, is like, the ultimate McGuffin.

The more petinent question, is wether or not the vault itself will end up pulling a Borderlands ending ?
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:51 AM edit delete reply

Well the title actually has little to do with the Strip ( surprise ) :D And Lynn is very special.. Shes Calliopes baby girl .. Otherwise shes just your ordinary slightly spoiled above average intelligent teen :D
Hornet 16th Mar 2015, 7:46 AM edit delete reply
falsified reports on the way!!
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:52 AM edit delete reply

By the bucket load :D heck they dont even have to be false :D
CyberSkull 16th Mar 2015, 8:14 AM edit delete reply

So, are they sworn to the emperor, the throne, the government or the constitution?
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:04 PM edit delete reply

We don't know .. yet.
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:52 AM edit delete reply

cant actually answer that..
Stormwind13 17th Mar 2015, 6:38 PM edit delete reply

LIES. You CAN answer that, and choose not to in order to torment us more! You are EVIL that way, CentComm
CptKerion 16th Mar 2015, 9:52 AM edit delete reply
I'm only coming to believe more and more that the "arrest numbnuts" loophole may occur
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:53 AM edit delete reply

The actually cant do that. ( the cassians that is )
justjoe46 16th Mar 2015, 11:47 AM edit delete reply
This looks bad for Maxus (I assume that he is the dangerous cyber enhanced male). It also looks bad for Acantha and Lynn (again I assume that they are the females in question here). I don't think that The Prince of Pecans (because he's nuttier than an orchard of pecan trees) has found out about the two New Troy teams yet.
Sleepycat 16th Mar 2015, 1:12 PM edit delete reply
Not to change the subject but Noctis has a cutest darn little nose I ever seen on a cyborg-killer-spy. It just came over me and I had to say it, so there.
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:05 PM edit delete reply

I suspect she was deliberately made to look like a cute chinadoll.
Smooth, spotless, cute and utterly emotionless.

Besides, beware the nice ones.
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:54 AM edit delete reply

Actually Rose created Noctis's look :D
Timotheus 16th Mar 2015, 2:58 PM edit delete reply

As an interested side question, who would Decimus call in to enforce his will over the Cassians? Who has oversight over Kali if she decides to be difficult.
velvetsanity 16th Mar 2015, 8:18 PM edit delete reply

Long ago, on a page far earlier in the story, it was explained that Kali and all the Cassians have inhibitors built in. These inhibitors function just like the collars.
Timotheus 16th Mar 2015, 8:58 PM edit delete reply

There's a huge difference between following orders blindly and interpreting orders as they see fit. If the prince realizes that the Cassians are exercising a great deal of selectivity in how they carry out his orders it's the same as disregarding them (from his point of view). This leads to the question asked, who could he turn to to discipline them if they wouldn't want to discipline themselves?
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:54 AM edit delete reply

If a cassian goes rogue they simply use a kill switch on it .. its kinda anti clamactic
Lukkai 17th Mar 2015, 6:08 PM edit delete reply
The follow question obviously is: If he can't trust the Cassians anymore (hence using it), who would/could he call in to replace them?
Morituri 16th Mar 2015, 4:16 PM edit delete reply

"Eliminate the target and any witnesses...." Um. These Cassians are hardcore. They could contemplate their own death as a form of protest/rebellion. And after eliminating the target, the Cassian has become a witness.....
Kitty 16th Mar 2015, 5:12 PM edit delete reply
Doesn't say the witnesses HAVE to be eliminated before the target; if Dec is in a position to be a witness....things could get awkward for him...

On a side note: Kali's face goes totally blank when she is not speaking. Creepy.
Morituri 16th Mar 2015, 5:49 PM edit delete reply
Nope, I'm pretty sure that option's out. Much as any of them would like to be able to, they've got inhibitors. Their poor brains would melt if they decided to kill the prince. He is very specifically protected by their programming, but they themselves aren't, and without them Deck wouldn't last a day.
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:57 AM edit delete reply

And yes The Cassians are specifically forbidden to touch Decimus he could walk up to someone and blow there brains out and all a cassian could do is watch. and tell Maxus. Kali has a BIT more lassitude but not much :D
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:56 AM edit delete reply

A lot of the Cassians do that trick .. Noctis and Nox love the reaction it gets .. Malati does it sometimes :D
Sheela 17th Mar 2015, 1:37 PM edit delete reply

Ah yes, who was it that liked to count Drekheads heartbeats ?
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 1:44 PM edit delete reply

Nox :D
Sheela 17th Mar 2015, 4:45 PM edit delete reply

Ah, good girl. :)
Skweeee 16th Mar 2015, 6:52 PM edit delete reply

I'm still suspect that you may be throwing us a curveball here. I'm just going to wait.
velvetsanity 16th Mar 2015, 8:19 PM edit delete reply

When are they not throwing us a curveball? :D
Sheela 16th Mar 2015, 9:07 PM edit delete reply

They are not throwing us curveballs, when they are throwing us handgrenades.

*sage nod*
velvetsanity 17th Mar 2015, 4:48 AM edit delete reply

Even when it's hand grenades they manage to make it a curve ball
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:57 AM edit delete reply

yep several actually :D
The Old Scribe 16th Mar 2015, 7:16 PM edit delete reply

The operative phrase here is " ... the greater good of Nova Roma," which Price Douchebag's vendetta against Lynn and the others is not contributing to one iota. Granted, while none of the cyber assassins can kill the Prince, he can be placed in isolated 'protective custody' until things 'stabilize' in the kingdom. Not having the likes of Maxus and Kail backing him up, the Prince is pretty much toast.
Centcomm 17th Mar 2015, 12:58 AM edit delete reply

yes the CAN do sideways things :D thats what Noctis is hinting here :D
megados 11th Jun 2017, 5:02 PM edit delete reply

Noctis is showing her cunning here.
Lukkai 17th Mar 2015, 6:13 PM edit delete reply
I just noticed...

"Any witnesses." Not specifically EYE-witnesses.

Does that include any people knowing of the operation that are not directly involved in its execution? And if yes, how direct do they have to be involved to not be considered a possible witness?

Any other problems this might birth aside, it simply means that as soon as Deci would fall into the "possible witness" group, the order can't be fulfilled anyway.
JustNoPoint 20th Mar 2015, 5:05 PM edit delete reply

"Well, when you put it that way!"
Hana 6th Jun 2015, 3:20 AM edit delete reply
Seeing the beginning of these orders be fulfilled, like the first move on the target, the dialogue makes so much more sens e now. Like what details were chosen. Everyone has focused on the wrong detail.....
Mark_L_A 6th Jun 2015, 7:54 AM edit delete reply

Is it my imagination or is Malati half smiling in the last panel?
