I hate to say it, but I was not sure what to expect when we saw him. Evidently he as not as mature as I thought.
If he can get out of the room then it will get interesting. Somehow, considering how many bad-asses are in there, he is going down without his dignity intact. Question is, who takes him down? Kali, Dec, Max,Acantha, anyone else?
You know so far you have almost duplicated the life of Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, Caligula in common terms. However he is a bit overdue for his Praetorian guard to kill him.
It now seems that SFB now has someone that is in close competition for the title. I did ask what would happen if the Homer Simpson IQ alike showed up well I found out.
Did that idiot just cut Rose off then blow her off? He deserves what is about to happen to him. And what is going to happen to him is NOT going to be pretty. Just don't know who is going to take him out. Too many people with the ability to, so who is going to step up and take him down?
The only person who can save this situation that I can see is Lynn. If she stops Leo from the assassination attempt (possibly getting wounded in the process) she'll change the whole legal set up (Hero of Nova Roma - instant citizen/noble) plus can probably keep Kyle from being instantly vaporized (with help from Arcantha) so he'll be able to help the city AI.
*Alarms blaring in the background* IDIOT ALERT!!! IDIOT ALERT!!! ALL CASSIANS ARE GIVEN ORDERS TO ELIMINATE THIS LOOSE END!
Kyle, do you not know the meaning of 'undercover agent'? It means don't go through the trouble of sneaking into enemy territory if you're just going to *insert expletive* wave a gun in the air and yell "I'm a spy! Kill me now!"... I'm sure Rose could have said that more eloquently with her massive range of figurative and explicit language but I'm still face palming myself over here at the sheer idiocy of both Decimus and Kyle here...
Toodles Kyle, it was "nice" knowing you. Try not to get any of your internals on your girlfriend, she's having a bad day as it is. Also, please don't shoot Maxus, we need him.
The ONLY possible helpful outcome I can see here is if he's daydreaming, Pulp Fiction style, and in a few moments we get to see him snap back to reality as someone asks him for more salt. My one tiny thread of hope for this is that he's holding a gun. If they let first day help be next to the prince unsearched, he'd have been dead long before now. Hell, if they let first day help in armed, both rescue teams could have just signed up as maids. The plot thus far would have largely revolved around the difficulties getting TeeDee in to a frilly skirt, but still.
Also, if this is real his timing is moronic. If he wanted to threaten the prince, at least do it when his personal guardian is NOT in arms reach to fling him out of the way. Hell, by standing next to Lynn he's standing next to Acantha. If it was just Decimus people may hesitate a moment and let stupid take care of crazy, but he's in range of someone EVERYONE wants to protect. Hell, Acantha's personal guard might be about to blow Kyle's head off about now.
If this is what Kyle is actually doing, he's really being excessively stupid. In fact, if he was going to pull a gun on Decimus, in the presence of a Cassian, his only effective move was to fire it before speaking.
He was supposed to help Aneas. He's the guy with the 'leet hacking skills and guidance from Rose about where and how to apply them. And many of those repairs can be made in out-of-sight, unwatched places. He could have done that.
Had he done exactly that, Aneas, in a non-crazy state, would take charge of the situation - and Aneas would send him and Lynn home safe, remove Jerkface from power, and install Acantha on the throne. That was really the main possible winning move for him.
This? This doesn't play to his strengths, severely underestimates the Prince's guards, and completely ignores their chances of surviving all the chaos he's just unleashed. This is a Bad Plan.
Lynn is also being stupid, although she has the excuse of being shocked to see him. She spoke his name. D'oh! Now everybody knows that he's connected with her.
Lynn calling him by name might actually be the one single thing that saves his life, at least temporarily.
If she knows him and more importantly likes him, he's possibly useful as a hostage to threaten her with. Maybe even force her into marriage? Well, at least putting a leash on her. All the while not doing anything to her directly that could invoke further wrath from Cent.
With another agent being inserted long term and on a list of trusted servants, there's a number of possibilities he could have gotten that gun in. Though I'm putting my money on him doing so without her knowledge and just profiting on the guards being rather lax with controls, knowing there's only trusted servants and personal guests in the room and Kali always around the prince anyway.
Oh come now, how the heck did someone just hired, get a gun in there.
Any even half competent security would have frisked him half a bazillion times before he got up there.
It's like, on page 1 of the security book for dummies.
Well, initial reactions are: Goodbye Kyle. We barely got to know you. What with Kali sitting right there, or standing. And even if she failed to stop you and you shot Prince Whack-a-doodle his failsafes taking out the city = goodbye Kyle, we barely knew you.
But our creators being the nefarious and evil creatures that they are *eyes Rose*, other reactions are you are about to be disarmed. And possible disarmed, among other "dis's" while handed to the tender mercies of yon "priest" and/or Kali's Kabal.
So yeah. Ya's probably gonna get enrolled in a pretty shitty curriculum shortly. Of one kind or another.
*eyes Rose* Not that I'm saying he dun deserve it for this. This is about as dumb as a bag of hammers as it gets. And he requires ....... edification.
Pretty much what In thinking too. There is something else we arent seeing yet in play here. Youthful enthusiasm can be reckless, but its usually encouraged along through beforehand information (good or bad).
Perhaps something was slipped into the food to deal with the human elements (Kyle was assigned to the kitchens I think), and since he is technically knowledgeable, maybe he has with him an inhibiting device or or some fail safe geared toward androids that might slow down Kali.
Just because he isnt following Roses instructions doesnt mean he isn't following a plan. Either way, Im not ready to write Kyle off just yet.
Indeed. He's smart and good hacker. Despite the fact that he's no military, he must be aware of Kali's potential power along the situation he's in. I *could* see him underestimating those vague "contigencies" and simply pulling the trigger on the douchebag (which in itself might not be that bad of a plan), but I think he will have thought step or two ahead. Maybe insufficiently, but nevertheless... One possibility I could see here would be deadman-switched suicide vest large enough to kill everyone in the room and using the douchebag as a hostage...
Yeah joe. You got that right, Kyle is NOT the guy for this job. He had his job, could have made a difference; however, he went off script and I fear it will cost him everything. :-P
Well, this was really stupid of him. He is almost certainly going to die. I pretty disappointed to be honest. Kyle was damn close to a blank slate. Rose could have done nearly anything with him. Apparently she has decided to get him killed off stupidly. :(
If by Rose you mean the authoress, then I see you point. If you mean Rose the character, she was trying VERY hard to not get Kyle to be this stupid and he blew her off and cut her off (can he hang up on a mental channel? If so that seems to be what he did). I mean, just how STUPID can you get? :-P
=O If CentComm is driving this bus, Kyle is dead man walking! I mean, she hates him enough to dismember him and spread him around the room... and that was BEFORE he pulled a gun. :-P
Ah, but at least Kyle won't be dropped behind the bus, but rather in front of it so Centcomm can run him over.
Also, if Centcomm is driving the bus, she won't be driving the short bus, 'cause the full sized bus hits harder.
Gotta think of it all, the devil is in the details .. or Tokyo Rose is there, well, one of them at least.
Quite seriously: Even if he has anything planned to get him and Lynn out of this room and of the city (I heavily doubt he has. And even if, has definitely not planned past this first room.), he's automatically failed that objective now. There's practically no way he could get anywhere near Aeneas now. There'd be only one single, very slim chance. And I don't think he even knows of that way.
Here's a question I've been meaning to ask- By what method do you come up with the particular Tarot representation for each page title? Is it by straight correspondence between the action on the page and the attributes of the card (We'll call that manual) or do you throw some type of a reading for each page and let the mysterious forces of the Universe decide? (I would think of that as automatic)
Though I admit, "Prince Genefuck" is a brilliant name. If Dec chokes on his own tongue trying to get the order to kill out of his mouth, and Kyle's gun moves away from a direct-to-prince line of fire, Kyle MIGHT survive.
There's more to this seemingly stupid stunt than meets the eye. Kyle's smarter than this despite his age, besides no one in their right mind would threaten a head of state with his human and android bodyguards in the same room. IMO he's getting a distractional head start on the shit that's about to hit the fan.
He's also a teenager in the throes of testosterone poisoning whose girlfriend happens to currently be a political prisoner. He's thinking with the wrong head and going suicidally macho.
I'm going to relate two stories from my tabletop gaming experience here.
First is an alternity one.
I was playing a CQC combat spec guarding an important NPC (politician who was championing the same cause I was fighting for) and one of the other players, a free agent and apparently working for the enemy pulled his pistol on the guy and bothered to snap off a line "Say goodnight sweetheart."
Did you know that in the amount of time it takes to say that a CQC spec combat spec can remove the safety, raise, and squeeze 12 shots out of an automatic shotgun?
Apparently he did not.
Needless to say they buried him in the mop bucket used to clean him up.
Kyle is that guy, but dumber because he doesn't seem to intend to shoot immediately afterwards.
The second comes from Pathfinder.
I am DMing. The guy they think is the big boss is giving a speech from behind a wall of royal guardsmen... and this level 1 rogue charges them shouting "YOU WILL DIE TYRANT!" at the top of his lungs... you know, if he had just been silent he would've only been knocked out... but no, he had to scream that. Needless to say the first guard piked him and that ended that.
Kyle is that guy now.
My bet, Kyle, in the words of the demoman "They're gonna have to bury you in a soup can!"
It's possible that Kyle thought he could waltz in, brandish a gun (likely he can't actually SEE any other guns in the room - which doesn't mean they aren't there) and think that by threatening the prince, he can safely waltz back out with Lynn on his arm, and then run for it once they're outside the room. After all, it works on action/adventure vids, right? ;)
On the other hand, how many times have we all been surprised by events in this story? Don't wanna assume too much here.
That's basically my theory about the whole "But Kyle is smarter than that!" argument. What does he know about the "real world" in terms of how hostage situations actually work.
Why?
The megalomaniac might decide he wants Maxus alive.
It now seems that SFB now has someone that is in close competition for the title. I did ask what would happen if the Homer Simpson IQ alike showed up well I found out.
Kali has all the time in the world.
Out of all the things that could have happened right now, I admit I never thought this one could happen xDDD
He's seriously fucking up everything. I mean EVERYTHING!

...and that Rose knows and approves i..., well, she does not...
@alt text: me *raises hand*
GODDAMN KID IS GOING FULL RETARD
EVERYBODY KNOWS YOU NEVER GO FULL RETARD
Also, this may throw a wrench in the plans.
Dang it rose didn't you add in an emergency OVERRIDE for him incase he tried something STUPID so you could stop hime/!??@!?#!@#!@?#!@#
Baseball bat, taser, etcetera.
That could conceivably have quite the range.
wait... there are spies in my house?
At this point, and for his sake, I hope they DO kill him before someone thinks that questioning him might be a good idea!
Kyle, do you not know the meaning of 'undercover agent'? I'm starting to understand why Centcomm despise him so much.

THIS IS WHY ARGH.
Which is fine if you intend to use him as cannonfodder.
For an undercover mission ? Not so much.

There's so many ways this could go. I've GOT to know what happens! D:
XDXD
*watches joyously as Kali takes Kyle's head cleanly of.*
Sure was nice knowing ya, Kyle -- and whoever else gets in the way! >_<
Rose the Writer is rolling with what Cent the Artist requested.
Also, if Centcomm is driving the bus, she won't be driving the short bus, 'cause the full sized bus hits harder.

Meanwhile, Ceci could be wearing the plaid. :)

But I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
Could be a good distraction for someone.
Not sure who though...
A whole barrel full of fish ?
Woooo! MINE ! :D
I don't really like Kyle, from the above comments, neither does it seem does Cent.
And I think Kyle just started flinging from the flank!
I'm sorry Velvet, but I suspect your shield won't amount to much. :(

I would so like this to end a certain way but... I'm sure it won't. Poor Kyle. Heroic and brave but foolish.
