Yay, Maxus!
Fairportfan 26th Mar 2015, 9:28 PM edit delete reply

Huh. I got logged out.

Yay, Maxus!
CptKerion 26th Mar 2015, 9:33 PM edit delete reply
Completely rooting for Maxus here.
Yay Maxus!
As a side note, Maxus is my favorite character, followed shortly by Mr. Black, then Dolly, then Logrin tied with Mira (I hope to see more of Logrin and Mira, I love rangers and ranger-likes and I just love the wasteland mechanic types... well really I just like wastlanders of the BA and competent variety with a special fondness for rangers and mechanics)
CptKerion 26th Mar 2015, 9:30 PM edit delete reply
Maxus was fighting against it you twit!

Ahurm, with that out of the way, everyone else just got calm. You know what that means for his survival odds if Maxus doesn't keep control of the situation or he fails to comply?
Just hit zero.
About now the guards ought to be busy locking down everything and Cassian reinforcements on their way to the royal dining room.
Tokyo Rose 26th Mar 2015, 10:26 PM edit delete reply

Keep in mind that in-story, it's been a matter of seconds. There's been no time for anyone outside to even realize that anything is wrong.
CptKerion 26th Mar 2015, 10:47 PM edit delete reply
If he triggered a security problem in the basement, any crack leader security team will have people en route to the person they're supposed to be protecting the moment anything anywhere on the facility goes wrong and in the event of security breach, will lock down the area.
That there were Cassians en route already only hurts his case.
Tango Xray Actual 27th Mar 2015, 12:35 AM edit delete reply
Concur - Any non-trivial security event (and obviously one that "draws away" a significant portion of the standing sec-force to the basement counts) would trigger a) a facility-wide lock-down and b) reaction teams being dispatched to cover any and all principals / high value targets within the facility. Flashing lights and klaxons optional.

Yes, it has only been a mere handful of seconds but the security and protective services forces of the facility ALREADY KNOW THERE IS AN SECURITY EVENT IN PROGRESS. They just don't know all the details and they will react by the book to secure the physical plant, their principals as well as then seeking out any hostiles/unidentifieds.

Take a look at the video of how Reagan was handled when Hinkley tried to assassinate him. The SS unit literally threw Reagan into the back seat of the limo. The shooter was neutralized and physically covered by agents' bodies within four seconds and the limo was on the street rolling within eight seconds of the first shot, the scene is effectively secured within 20 and the shooter being transported within two minutes of the first shot. Medical assistance arrived at about 1 min 50 sec.

And when is that boy gonna step back and clear his six??
Tango Xray Actual 27th Mar 2015, 1:01 AM edit delete reply
The Wheel reversed - damned straight.
Tokyo Rose 27th Mar 2015, 1:02 AM edit delete reply

Where was it stated that there are Cassians en route?
Draginbeard 27th Mar 2015, 1:33 PM edit delete reply

If I read it right, the Cassians were sent on their own missions by Kali.

Since for us, the mission specifics are still unknown, the Cassians could be off the palace grounds, and heading somewhere deep in the city for all we know.
Tango Xray Actual 27th Mar 2015, 5:49 PM edit delete reply
OK, maybe no Cassians BUT, at any secure facility, with any protective units (which would be separate from the facility security forces) worth their salt, special reaction teams would be! It would be basic protocol to secure, and if necessary, evacuate to saferooms, at least the royal principals or others in the immediate line of succession in attendance of the dinner.

It would also be SOP for facility guards / watchman NOT to leave their posts during an event unless ordered by higher authority. The event itself (the basement) would be handled by SWAT type units.

Nor would a monitoring/command center be depopulated to deal with an event. It's people are still on duty, eyes to their assigned screens no others; in other words, the views from the "blocked cameras" have probably already been noted.

Also, SOP would have been to notify the ranking members of security units in the dinning room, I would think Kali and Maxus definitely count there.

(Where BTW is Damoclus and why wasn't he within reach of his principle?)

Even by the standards of 30 or 40 years ago, this 'event' is a total CF and the worst offenders aren't Kyle but those involved with security because they did NOT DO THEIR JOBS.

Either that or there is a magical heroic aura that causes total breakdown of systems and expertise. When heros are in the vicinity, locks do not magically lose the ability to lock nor do security professionals become Keystone Kops.

Speaking of which... Why is Dec still exposed and in the line of fire? The most reasonable reaction for Kali would have been to throw his ass under the heavy wooden table where he has at least some protection from a slug thrower. As it is, she is not even covering his body.... or might she be indulging the possibility of a private regime change maneuver for the "greater good of Nova Roma" by being a fraction of a second too slow?

CptKerion 27th Mar 2015, 8:33 PM edit delete reply
I am under the impression that there are Cassians tasked with getting two females of import out of the way of an impending attempt to kill a highly dangerous male.
Centcomm 28th Mar 2015, 6:41 PM edit delete reply

All im gonna say is Kali can move FASTER than he can shoot.. and well maybe a bullet in the arm - wouldn't be totally horrible to her POV.. Deck wanted ALL of the guards out of this room because he DID not want anyone else besides the people IN this room to hear things. ( slaves dont hear things by default if they are smart. ) Trust me. any "errors" you may or may not see.. is counted for in the plot.. or in the characters mentality not every hero is perfect and not every villian is perfect.. and sometimes they are "just that good" .. Honestly with Kali and Maxus in the room no one would really be able to harm the Prince.. hell with just max in the room .. and the prince A believes he is quite capable of handling any number of assassination attempts .. this isn't his first go round with looking down a gun.
Timotheus 28th Mar 2015, 1:02 PM edit delete reply

You are presupposing the existence of "dedicated, crack security leaders and teams." The most competent of Decimus's security forces would love to see his security fail fatally and are motivated solely by preventing the collateral damage to his demise. The rest of his body guards have been described as "self serving mercenaries" whose loyalties will last as long as their special privileges do (not the type to take a bullet for you).
Sheela 28th Mar 2015, 11:43 PM edit delete reply

On the other hand, if the security *had* caught him, we wouldn't be able to sit here and laugh at him failing so hard.

Sometimes, things just ends up with a bit of instant karma. :)
Draginbeard 26th Mar 2015, 10:12 PM edit delete reply

Go Kyle, stop talking and get Lynn out of there already!

Its not the best plan, but Kyle thinks he's seen enough of this place, and hearing the Prince thinly veil threats on Lynns treatment, yeah it really is time to go, and go quickly.
velvetsanity 26th Mar 2015, 10:21 PM edit delete reply

Typical damned teenage know-it-all. Just because ONE person there is a psychotic asshole, he's assuming they all are. What's worse is the testosterone poisoning has him ignoring what Lynn says in favor of his prejudice, without even hearing her beyond 'Lynn is talking'.
mjkj 26th Mar 2015, 10:31 PM edit delete reply

...and now Lynn has to worry about Leo, erm, Kyle, too, especially since he just painted a huge bulls eye on himself...

...I love how casual and cool Setorius is and contrasting how frozen Dr. Julia is...

DLKmusic 27th Mar 2015, 12:10 AM edit delete reply

I gotta agree about Setorus. His "hmm. Dinner AND a show" attitude is AWESOME!
Sheela 27th Mar 2015, 9:26 AM edit delete reply

Next thing you know, Lynn knocks out Kyle with a candlestick, just to keep him from getting killed.

Decimus will wince in sympathy.
And Setorius will be pleased with the show. :)
Kitty 27th Mar 2015, 7:21 PM edit delete reply
If anyone knocks Kyle out in the next second or two it's going to be Acantha. She's gesturing at Lynn, there, which looks like the universal signal for "Wait, I've got this."

And Decimus would never have sympathy for anyone else. More likely he'd be laughing in delight if Kyle got creamed.
CptKerion 27th Mar 2015, 8:34 PM edit delete reply
That may also be the "you know this asshole?" symbol
Haegan2005 26th Mar 2015, 10:33 PM edit delete reply

And the car is slowly building steam as it hits the top and is moving over the edge...

Hope everyone used the restroom before they got on!
CptKerion 27th Mar 2015, 8:34 PM edit delete reply
Haegan2005 27th Mar 2015, 8:41 PM edit delete reply

I feel for ya!
Sheela 28th Mar 2015, 10:50 AM edit delete reply

Don't worry, you can always grab a taxi if you miss the steam train! :)

... might still want to use the restroom first though. XD
plymayer 26th Mar 2015, 10:38 PM edit delete reply

He needs to just shoot. He isn't getting away no matter. So, shoot.
plymayer 26th Mar 2015, 10:39 PM edit delete reply

Shoot to kill.
Aurora 26th Mar 2015, 11:14 PM edit delete reply
Alright, Kyle, if you're going to do something, do it now! Otherwise, put the gun away and let Maxus put you in a safe location away from the mad king... Sigh, I'm wishing I could see Supervisor Timmson or Tokyo Rose chew out Kyle cause right now he should have either shot Decimus and would have already been halfway to the door with Lynn or could have been safely in the kitchen if he hadn't let the testosterone get to his foolish teenaged head.
Rashala 26th Mar 2015, 11:44 PM edit delete reply

*headbangs on Table* Hey IDIOT look at the THING ON HER WRIST !!! *facepalms* is he THAT ....BLIND!?!??@!?#!?
Draginbeard 27th Mar 2015, 12:01 AM edit delete reply

Kyle is no slouch with tech, I imagine that is an easy disable for him. Hell, he could probably use it to throw his pursuit off track as well.
CptKerion 27th Mar 2015, 8:35 PM edit delete reply
If he even knows about it, or thinks about it.
Draginbeard 28th Mar 2015, 7:00 AM edit delete reply

Are you determined to punch a hole in everything? Kyle may not be able to anticipate everything, but he isnt stupid, just rash. Give the kid a little credit.

Besides that, if everything went exactly according to plan, the story would be pretty dry.
Rashala 29th Mar 2015, 1:47 PM edit delete reply

HE IS NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ProfEtheric 27th Mar 2015, 12:04 AM edit delete reply

*bangs head against wall*

You know, there's morons, there's effing morons, and then there's Kyle, King of Morons (may all lesser morons bow before him).

He is so far over his head, he'll be lucky to remember what daylight looks like.
CptKerion 27th Mar 2015, 8:35 PM edit delete reply
You know why he and Decks hate each other? They both compete for that title there
ProfEtheric 27th Mar 2015, 8:55 PM edit delete reply

Hey, you're right. Meh, ghost 'em both. :)
jas 27th Mar 2015, 5:32 AM edit delete reply

Oh, it just gets better and better! When the big man who could rip you in two gives you a way out, curses out his boss in front of you and STILL you don't take him up on his offer, you are not going to end well...
Phil 27th Mar 2015, 8:38 AM edit delete reply
This comment thing seriously needs a "like" button :)
KarToon12 27th Mar 2015, 8:52 AM edit delete reply

Gotta' love how the doctor just doesn't give a crap. He'll only get mad if you get blood in his soup. He'll demand a free meal then.

"I knew I should've went to the Olive Garden. This service is terrible." XD
Sheela 27th Mar 2015, 9:28 AM edit delete reply

Well, either a free meal, or a free vivisection ... possibly both.
Sheela 27th Mar 2015, 9:30 AM edit delete reply

Hrm, I'm rather curious about hearing what Kyle has heard they want to do to Lynn.

Might be a revelation in store for Lynn as well, as one for Decimus - "They think I will do WHAT?"
velvetsanity 27th Mar 2015, 1:12 PM edit delete reply

Most likely the conversation during this dinner. Hard to be completely certain, though, no telling where and how many bugs he's planted
Draginbeard 27th Mar 2015, 1:27 PM edit delete reply

I think he is referring to the dinner conversation as well.

The Prince voiced options of Lynn wearing a slave collar and worse very likely set him off.

Kyle has witnessed some pretty unfavorable behavior to those considered slaves and servants on the streets and in the kitchens here already. He isn't about to let any of that happen to Lynn.
Sheela 27th Mar 2015, 1:31 PM edit delete reply

Ah, but we're assuming it was what he just heard. IT might be something else entirely.

There's an experession "The truth is the first casualty in a conflict.", so it's definately possible Kyle has heard something else before he arrived. His version of 'The Truth' might be radically different than everyeone elses. ;)
Draginbeard 27th Mar 2015, 1:42 PM edit delete reply

Naw, we know how easy it is to set Kyle off. I think it was the dinner conversation that pushed him into action hero mode.

And honestly, if an 8' Wookie, a farm boy, a rogue Smuggler, and an Old Hedge Mage can wander around the largest, best equipped and armed space station to rescue a princess in a galaxy far, far away, why not see if Kyle can get away with it in this one?
Kitty 27th Mar 2015, 7:24 PM edit delete reply
Well, that makes Kyle the Farm Boy (naive and inexperienced), so considering that he's missing the 8 ft Wookiee, the Smugger and the Hedge Mage, his chances don't look good.

But again, don't underestimate our esteemed Authors here :D
CptKerion 27th Mar 2015, 8:39 PM edit delete reply
They were also in a fantasy setting, with magic, and nonrealistic bullet damage.
Draginbeard 28th Mar 2015, 6:49 AM edit delete reply

Right, because this is all based on reality and hard facts, no room for a fantasy adventure here....oh wait, this story based on a game system and campaign, so maybe we can suspend disbelief just a smidge for the sake of a little fun
Sheela 28th Mar 2015, 11:00 AM edit delete reply

Ah, but he probably would not have brought the gun in the first place, if he hadn't heard something *before* he even entered the room.

Ofcourse, I'm assuming here that he has two brain cells to rub together.
Centcomm 29th Mar 2015, 7:46 PM edit delete reply

snickers .. good one Draginbeard .. :D
a little suspension is good :D
Lurker314 18th Jan 2018, 9:02 PM edit delete reply
Trolling back through the archives here. I missed this discussion. You do know that there were orders to let them escape, correct? The tracker on their ship went straight to the rebel base...
cattservant 27th Mar 2015, 12:43 PM edit delete reply

There's right
and then there's
dead right!
velvetsanity 27th Mar 2015, 1:13 PM edit delete reply

'Dead right' as in, "Kyle's dead, right?"?
Sheela 27th Mar 2015, 1:32 PM edit delete reply

Well, in this case, two wrongs does indeed make for a dead right. XD
Johninaustin 27th Mar 2015, 8:39 PM edit delete reply
Never talk when you should be shooting.
Aurora 27th Mar 2015, 9:44 PM edit delete reply
I believe we already heard a wonderful rant from Supervisor Timmson about that very subject...
JustNoPoint 29th Mar 2015, 7:37 PM edit delete reply

The things a person will do to go on a date hah!
Seriously, i have no idea how this could end any way other than terribly!
antrik 12th Oct 2016, 2:45 PM edit delete reply
Just a little hint there, loverboy: she doesn't look "great" -- she looks absolutely terrified.
Zimriel 21st Aug 2017, 7:15 PM edit delete reply
"Good man"... there's stupid to go around here. Nobody in this room believes that, and ^Kyle knows^ you don't believe that. So why say it?
