Tokyo Rose
Bet you can't imagine just how much I was grinning at all the comments expressing disappointment in Rose's restrained vocabulary last Friday.

Well, she's getting creative now.
Sheela 11th May 2015, 11:40 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, it's almost as if she's disappointed in him or something.
Centcomm 11th May 2015, 7:19 PM edit delete reply

She's always creative

Dragonrider 10th May 2015, 9:06 PM edit delete reply

Interesting visual imagery in the vitriolic dissertation here. Hope she has plan C ready when Noctis and company show up.
After a reread of TR's rant I really think part of it is dated as I doubt they still have glory holes at this point much less lead based paint or Milton Bradley to still manufacture the game of Clue.
Tokyo Rose 11th May 2015, 3:30 AM edit delete reply

It's almost as if Tokyo Rose makes a lot of 20th-21st century cultural references, isn't it? Wonder why that is. /deadpan

(Yes, glory holes still exist in the DC universe, just like prostitutes and brothels exist. Human beings still have sex for fun, after all, and for some people, "fun" = "ridiculous levels of largely unnecessary risk".)
highlander55 11th May 2015, 4:55 AM edit delete reply

"fun" = "ridiculous levels of largely unnecessary risk". So divorce lawyers are the only sharks left. Figures!
Guest 11th May 2015, 4:54 AM edit delete reply
We know Tokyo Rose is over 900 years old, Dragonrider. Some aspects of her at least. So she is pulling things from her past. It frequently confuses her listener, which makes them less able to argue with her.
Sheela 11th May 2015, 11:51 AM edit delete reply

Well, even Divorce Lawyers, sharks that they are, will have to fear the Orca !
Heck, even Great White Sharks get eaten by Orcas in our day and age.
HiFranc 10th May 2015, 9:08 PM edit delete reply

She asks the question that I've wanted to ask for a long time - what does Lynn see in him?
Thor 10th May 2015, 9:24 PM edit delete reply
He's someone who will never make her feel inferior?
HiFranc 10th May 2015, 10:20 PM edit delete reply

That doesn't sound like Lynn. She's not Decimus.

In thinking about your question I think I know what attracted her initially to him: Given her upbringing I'm sure she found someone who geeks out as much as she does probably an positive thing. However, I don't think that would be enough to sustain her. So what else does he offer her?
Pirtnac 10th May 2015, 10:39 PM edit delete reply
While I'm still mad at him, so I don't want to shine too positive a light in his direction: I'd say he's got a lot of things in common with Lynn's dad.

-Both reckless enough to think they could have a chance with their respective Taylor of the time. Both the right type of person to actually have said chance.

-One was from the physical wastes, another from the digital. Neither origin was probably parent approved.

-Both died defending their loved ones. Kyle just had Rose's planning as backup, so he didn't stay that way.
anonymous coward 10th May 2015, 11:26 PM edit delete reply
Anyone who doesn't get what Lynn sees in Kyle apparently hasn't been young in a really long time: Teenagers are mostly pretty stupid, easily swayed by appearances and bravado in place of actual competence and confidence. When you're not yet an adult person who earns their own way, chooses where they live and has confidence in their present and future teenagers are sexually mature and socially/financially infantilized, prevented from acting like the adults their hormones say they are. That leads to very low self-esteem. At all ages self-confidence is attractive though, so if everyone in your peer-group has none the people who can fake it are top-of-class for that. Those tend to mostly be dumbasses and jerks--people who lack the social awareness to get that they don't control their destiny or lack the empathy to give a shit what other people think.
Sheela 11th May 2015, 11:55 AM edit delete reply

Also, lets not forget that not only are the birthrates very low, but they are mostly girls.

Thus any half decent boy in Lynn's agegroups is not only rare, but well worth the trouble, even if he's not perfect.
HiFranc 11th May 2015, 12:59 PM edit delete reply

I forgot about the male/female ratio.
HiFranc 11th May 2015, 12:58 PM edit delete reply

It may have been a little while... ;-) I had forgotten that.
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:19 PM edit delete reply

Lynn has known Kyle all his life .. well sense they were both kids. and with available men rare and such .. Lynn latched onto him he is brilliant.. just lacking in a few years of experience and know how everything he learned about this he got from action vids.. no one ever died in those..
jamie59 10th May 2015, 9:25 PM edit delete reply

That's more like what I was expecting Rose.
Tokyo Rose 11th May 2015, 3:31 AM edit delete reply

/bow :)
Sheela 11th May 2015, 11:56 AM edit delete reply

*adds arrows to the bow*

I'm helping! :D
... wait, why is Kyle running away again?
mjkj 10th May 2015, 9:42 PM edit delete reply

It is a bit better now - but still very tame...

...is Kyle trying not to burst out laughing there???

Stormwind13 11th May 2015, 3:04 AM edit delete reply

Oh no, mjkj. He is trying to shrink into the floor and hide. He is a teenager and Rose is an authority figure, so he is properly chastised.
Guest 11th May 2015, 8:14 AM edit delete reply
Yea, sure, as if teenager give a fuck about authority figures....
Lukkai 11th May 2015, 11:29 AM edit delete reply

If they can pull the strings Rose can, you generally do.

Oh, you claim not to at any possible occasion! But as soon as the chips are down and you're in the room with the very annoyed entity that is them, any thoughts left are shame, fear and the wish to shrink so small that you could vanish.
Sheela 11th May 2015, 12:00 PM edit delete reply

Only once have I ever been angry enough to properly yell at a teenager, and despite his remonstrations about how brave and uncaring he was about authority figures, he pretty much shat bricks, and tried to hide in a hole once it happened.

You have to understand, that most teenagers in western society have never seen anyone get *really* mad. (And it's a good thing that they haven't.) So they are often full of empty bravado and selfconfidence.

Sure doesn't take long to rip that apart though.
I just wish I never have to do that again.
JacobJSebastian 10th May 2015, 9:53 PM edit delete reply

O_O ...

BWAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:17 PM edit delete reply

Good! :D
Rashala 10th May 2015, 10:13 PM edit delete reply

NO way inHELL that was Spur of the moment rose you EXPECTED something like this to happen and had that tirade planned!!
xpacetrue 11th May 2015, 2:03 AM edit delete reply

Oh, come now. From the moment Kyle started ignoring Rose's voice and heedlessly following a path of retarded bravado, Rose has been thinking of what to say to him. It's been, what, at least an hour since then? Several hours? That's plenty of time for Rose to come up with a tirade like this - and still have time to refine her contingencies to salvage this operation.
rfaramir 12th May 2015, 1:13 PM edit delete reply
After 900 years of being TR, she doesn't have to plan that kind of tirade, I'm sure.
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:16 PM edit delete reply

hehe well shes known or her razor sharp wit..
DLKmusic 10th May 2015, 10:13 PM edit delete reply

ROFL, Rose, you DID it! you ACTUALLY made a room full of Longshoremen blush!

And they said it couldn't be done!

P.S. LOVE the title!
Stormwind13 11th May 2015, 3:07 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, DLK this was great. The next title will be No Longer Mild Chastisement.

My comment is... GO ROSE!!!
Tokyo Rose 11th May 2015, 3:31 AM edit delete reply

High praise. Thank you ;D
Lukkai 11th May 2015, 11:30 AM edit delete reply

Consider Sidney Scoville giving you an approving look and a nod of sisterhood.
Sheela 11th May 2015, 12:03 PM edit delete reply

Scoville would be proud!
Stormwind13 11th May 2015, 3:58 PM edit delete reply

She might take notes even, Sheela. If her A.D.D. doesn't cause her to get distracted.
DLKmusic 11th May 2015, 6:01 PM edit delete reply

Ms. Scoville aint got NUTTIN on our Rose! She is the undisputed champ!
I think our dear sweet Halo would have 5 words to say to Rose. "TEACH ME, OH GREAT ONE!".
Boren 10th May 2015, 10:28 PM edit delete reply
Rose....Rose...........ROSE!
Not that is isn't well deserved but if you scorch him any more you're going to set off the sprinkler system...
Guest 11th May 2015, 4:36 AM edit delete reply
If you leave scorch marks you need a bigger gun, Boren. I think Rose is doing what she needs to in order to ensure that Kyle doesn't go off script again!
Marcus Ramesy 11th May 2015, 9:50 AM edit delete reply

there is a reason the military uses the term "smoke em"
Sheela 11th May 2015, 12:04 PM edit delete reply

Scorch marks are wasted energy, you should be aiming at the eyes!
Lukkai 12th May 2015, 7:38 PM edit delete reply

If the gun's big enough, that'll do actually.
Jarin 10th May 2015, 10:47 PM edit delete reply
YES. THIS is what I've been waiting for! :D
plymayer 10th May 2015, 11:48 PM edit delete reply

Somehow, I feel as if she didn't appreciate his efforts.
Guest 11th May 2015, 4:44 AM edit delete reply
Not entirely plymayer. She showed last page that she understood reasons for his actions. Just that those reasons are NOT sufficient to derail her mission and no more deviations from her script by him was going to be tolerated!
Sleel 11th May 2015, 5:19 AM edit delete reply

That's some mighty fine extemporizing. Oddly enough my fave part is the just bobble your head bit.
Stormwind13 11th May 2015, 8:41 AM edit delete reply

That is a great line among a lot of them. Rose did a fantastic job here! Applauds your work again, Rose!
Sheela 11th May 2015, 12:05 PM edit delete reply

Personally, I rather like the "Knight in Shining Stupidity" bit myself. :)
VanEzzania 11th May 2015, 5:31 AM edit delete reply

She mad.
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 11:32 AM edit delete reply

jest a littttle bit :D
jas 11th May 2015, 6:59 AM edit delete reply

Tell us how you REALLY feel, Rose... XD
Stormwind13 11th May 2015, 8:38 AM edit delete reply

Don't wish that on us jas! The planet would probably be blown out of orbit from the power of that tirade!
jas 11th May 2015, 8:47 AM edit delete reply

LOL! You're probably right, Stormwind! XD
KarToon12 11th May 2015, 8:13 AM edit delete reply

"The most retarded game of Clue..."

XDXDXD
DLKmusic 11th May 2015, 10:26 AM edit delete reply

I'm still stuck on "Apocafucklyptic" and "the output from ONE Bran Muffin..." !!!!

Where the hell does she come up with these?
Sheela 11th May 2015, 12:06 PM edit delete reply

Experience.

Definately something that comes with experience.
Tokyo Rose 12th May 2015, 5:12 PM edit delete reply

Did the Greeks have a muse of profanity?
Aurora 12th May 2015, 7:21 PM edit delete reply
If they did, the Muse's name would be Rose...
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 11:32 AM edit delete reply

I dunno where Rose gets her Material . she always cracks me up as well :D
antrik 13th Oct 2016, 2:48 AM edit delete reply
My favourite is "Sir Kyle, on his three-legged one-eyed jackass with his big-boy pants on his vacant head" :-)
DbTlkn 11th May 2015, 8:21 AM edit delete reply
Minus the swearing, this is how today's parents should discipline their teenage offspring, instead of treating them as fragile kids bubbled up in their comfort zone.
HiFranc 11th May 2015, 12:57 PM edit delete reply

One should tailor one's parenting style to the child rather than use a one-size fits all method. I always remember what I heard in podcast:[1]

The question was asked if anger was a good way of managers motivating their staff. An HR specialist said it all depends on the personality of the staff. Almost everybody has the competing drives of competing and being cooperative. For those who are dominated by their competitive side, anger was a good motivator. For those in whom their cooperative side is dominant, anger is actually a de-motivator.

[1] I think it was in an interview on BBC World Service's Business Daily in 2011 but I may be mis-remembering that.
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:16 PM edit delete reply

hehe .. I think we might agree on this :D
wright1 11th May 2015, 8:51 AM edit delete reply
True weapons-grade scorn, delivered with pinpoint accuracy. Between that and the shock of near-death, I think Kyle is actually accepting the reality of the situation and how badly he screwed up.
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:16 PM edit delete reply

yep :D
ChaosTheory 11th May 2015, 9:20 AM edit delete reply
That was freakin' brilliant; having "Full Metal Jacket" flashbacks here. Rose missed her calling as a Marine D.I.
Sheela 11th May 2015, 12:06 PM edit delete reply

Ah, but marines are so fragile!
mrbill 11th May 2015, 9:23 AM edit delete reply
Absolutely hilarious!
cattservant 11th May 2015, 9:29 AM edit delete reply

If he totally screwed up
they wouldn't be having this 'pep talk'
or any talk at all.
Lukkai 11th May 2015, 11:32 AM edit delete reply

Actually he did screw up that badly.

He was just lucky Rose had contingencies of her own in place.
Tokamada01 11th May 2015, 9:44 AM edit delete reply

Rose....

May I borrow you to yell at my employees.

PWEEEZZZ

There will be bribes of sugary goods for you. =)
Stormwind13 11th May 2015, 10:51 AM edit delete reply

I think using Rose on your employees might be a WAR crime, Tokamada! The Department of Labor would put a bounty on you for doing that!
Sheela 11th May 2015, 12:07 PM edit delete reply

Sugary Goods ?

I'm thinking you forgot to offer porn!
velvetsanity 12th May 2015, 9:02 AM edit delete reply

Porn can't be sugary sweet?
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:15 PM edit delete reply

I am pretty sure using Rose on your employees counts as as war crime for sure :D
Johninaustin 11th May 2015, 10:01 AM edit delete reply
I am in the presence of greatness. You truly are the master, Rose.
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:15 PM edit delete reply

She beats anyone I know of .. :D
Lukkai 11th May 2015, 11:35 AM edit delete reply

"Don't suffer fools! Make fools suffer!"

I kinda like that! :D

(And yes, I'm a forum moderator in my free time. Why do you ask?)
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:14 PM edit delete reply

hehe :D what forums?
Lukkai 12th May 2015, 7:40 PM edit delete reply

hattrick.org online football manager
Mark_L_A 11th May 2015, 12:55 PM edit delete reply

Rose, I'm starting to get a little worried about your health ;)

Now after finishing my 6th time through the WHOLE thing including ALL of the comments, I have a question.

What about Chodo?
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:12 PM edit delete reply

heh you are talking about troll speak .. wow thats old :D

and Six times wow thats fantastic !!
Mark_L_A 14th May 2015, 9:17 AM edit delete reply

Now on #8time through. As I get through, something goes *DING* in my back brain and I'm like "Wasitasec", go back, no not that, go back again, ahhhh DANG IT!! go to the very beginning again and start going through the whole thing again to find what made my spidey sense bug me. Be prepared for some more necroposting from me. :)

And his Name is Elllopp, from here in number 519 aka Bunker 001, http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/519. I was wondering if there was going to be more story about the trolls.
Professor Fate 11th May 2015, 3:24 PM edit delete reply
Ah, memories. Rose reminds me of a First Sergeant I had upset with something I'd done when I worked for Uncle Sam. I never made that mistake again; I always made new ones. :D
Guest 11th May 2015, 5:11 PM edit delete reply
Wondered when that was going to happen. Notice I said when, not if :)
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:11 PM edit delete reply

oh yes :D
XRzer04 11th May 2015, 6:14 PM edit delete reply

Come ON, Rose, Quit holding back and tell him how you Really Feel!
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:11 PM edit delete reply

I know right?
XRzer04 11th May 2015, 6:20 PM edit delete reply

Folks, if you think what Rose has for him is (justifiably) harsh, just wait until Lynn gets over being relieved that he's alive. SHE'S probably going to rip him a new one too.
Stormwind13 11th May 2015, 7:40 PM edit delete reply

LOL. Yeah XRzer that is a good point. I doubt she'll be able to match Rose's imagination or vocabulary; however, she does have some inside info into Kyle's make up that she can ruthlessly use to guilt him for doing that to himself (and her).
Tokyo Rose 12th May 2015, 5:17 PM edit delete reply

If nothing else, Lynn can always burst into tears. Verbal flaying is one thing, but girlfriend sobs would make him feel lower than an earthworm's asshole. >)
CptKerion 11th May 2015, 6:48 PM edit delete reply
Oh how I have been waiting for this moment.
Also, laughing my keister somewhere into the next county.
Cperka 12th May 2015, 2:46 AM edit delete reply

I like how Kyle is so shellshocked in the second frame. He dieded, and then he was undieded, and now he is under barrage of a disappointed woman boss (that's like dissapointed wife, who gave you an important thing to do, but you forgot because you started watching porn, squared) who has honed her insults throughout the last millennium. He's totally shut down, because he fears that if he'd say anything, he'll die by her hands...
//dieded is a joke spelling, I like how it sounds
DLKmusic 12th May 2015, 9:17 AM edit delete reply

Dieded works for me! Most of us are Looney Toons Fans, so I think we all get it... and those who aren't? Well, there's a room where we keep them, but let's not talk about that.
Centcomm 12th May 2015, 3:11 PM edit delete reply

hehe wait till you see the next page :D

I like the spelling too :D
Melody_Whyte 12th May 2015, 6:16 PM edit delete reply

Baaaaahahahahaha! Rose, you're hilarious when you're mad! Cute, too.
J 10th Jan 2018, 10:43 AM edit delete reply
