No signs of Acantha or Lynn yet. Unless there is NO tram and they've already taken it.
Dragonrider 21st May 2015, 9:20 PM edit delete reply

Judgement Day for Nova Roma when the "DeadDouche Switch" kicks in from SFB going to plant daisies.

The alt text for this is either a lie or at least misleading. Without fucks why would she be bothering with judgment for people? If she was truly lacking in fucks she wouldn't bother, but she clearly intends to do so. Therefore we must conclude that either her fuck-growing field is not barren, or she's getting a supply of fucks from some other source.
Tokyo Rose 22nd May 2015, 12:04 AM edit delete reply

She has a very limited supply of fucks available, and is reserving them appropriately. It's expensive to import fucks from fuck-growing areas, after all.

Thank you for that tiny glimpse of the fuckonomics of Data Chasers. I am curious about the nature of the fucking economy though, and why the political-economy development of the world has apparently stalled out at the size of city-states. Apparently a teenager day-tripping further than the largest dimension of many European countries was not considered absurdly abnormal, so you'd think there has to be some really compelling reason why nobody has at least bought the basic political unit back up to the nation-state. Maybe they're related, and the true driving crisis in the background has always been a worldwide shortage of fucks. It would explain why they have so many synthetic people around....
Sheela 22nd May 2015, 2:19 AM edit delete reply

There's a reason why smugglers such as Mr Black are so incredibly successful, it's because they have made a living importing fucks into Nova Roma. :D
xpacetrue 22nd May 2015, 10:29 AM edit delete reply

"...Maybe they're related, and the true driving crisis in the background has always been a worldwide shortage of fucks."

Maybe. I'm reminded of Miraiko's line a couple pages ago; "She [Rose] says that if people refuse to properly mind their business, someone has to mind it for them."

I think we already have a worldwide shortage of giveafucks. Why would the future be any different? But then, I want to be kind and just assume that most people are just emotionally constipated - like a worldwide epidemic of emotional constipation. Maybe it's something about our diet or in our water? What's the emotional equivalent to Ex-Lax, anyway?

And now I'm reminded of a very silly scene from Flesh Gordon, where the heroes went to Boob Planet to rescue the Professor. It turns out he'd been eaten and turned into living poop. And in trying to rescue him from the underground caverns, they had to unclog a tunnel... "Sorry, I'd love to talk more, but I have to GOOOoo-o-o!"
Sheela 23rd May 2015, 1:11 AM edit delete reply

> "What's the emotional equivalent to Ex-Lax, anyway?"

A crush on that cute guy who works in the local bakery ?

> "And now I'm reminded of a very silly scene from Flesh Gordon"

....FLESH Gordon ???
Stormwind13 23rd May 2015, 8:02 PM edit delete reply

Flesh Gordon is a sci-fi comedic porn movie, Sheela.
Sheela 24th May 2015, 9:16 AM edit delete reply

... that sounds exceedingly silly!
Morituri 24th May 2015, 8:28 PM edit delete reply
Oh, yes, it is. This is basically some people who make low-budget movies anyway looking at the SFX of the early "Flash Gordon" TV show and saying, "Hey, we could do all of that on OUR budget...." and proceeding to do a sendup that is so true to the look of the original series that you could swear (apart from content) that they had the same director and SFX departments. And only a few new faces in costuming....
DLKmusic 21st May 2015, 10:05 PM edit delete reply

Lesson Number 2 Kyle... Leave Judgement day to the professionals. and a sublesson... If you are going to threaten force, be prepared to use it!

(Miraiko is SUCH a good teacher!)
cattservant 21st May 2015, 10:37 PM edit delete reply

Someone may end up walking.
Sheela 22nd May 2015, 2:28 AM edit delete reply

Well, until he finds out about how many fucks are about to be unleashed upon Nova Roma ... *then* he will be running away as fast as he can!
Haegan2005 23rd May 2015, 7:37 AM edit delete reply

Hiya Cat! I have the feeling your right. It would be the perfect turn of events for one of the 2 parties.
mjkj 21st May 2015, 11:04 PM edit delete reply

Great :D

I think Lynn and Acantha will either use a different access and therefore are either already in the tram or enter at the next stop or use the next tram and rescue Kyle from Aeneas when they arrive...

mjkj 22nd May 2015, 11:30 PM edit delete reply

PS: What? Why does Kyle need a translation? I thought Rose gave him an extensive language pack plus the Galina algorithm...?
Stormwind13 23rd May 2015, 5:51 AM edit delete reply

Just because you have something doesn't mean you have it online, mjkj. It may need to be reloaded after his system crashed when he 'died'.
mjkj 23rd May 2015, 7:22 AM edit delete reply

True, that might be it...
velvetsanity 22nd May 2015, 4:52 AM edit delete reply

"Judgment Day" this some sort of hint/implication that Kyle will accidentally create SkyNet in the process of repairing Aeneas?

o/' because yooouuu could be mi-ine, but you're waaaayyy out of li-ine, with your bitch slap rappin' and your cocaine tongue you get nothing done...I said yoooouuuu could be miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine o/'
Sheela 22nd May 2015, 6:12 AM edit delete reply

No, no ... SkyNet has already been created and turned into CentComm ... literally!
velvetsanity 22nd May 2015, 8:03 AM edit delete reply

Doesn't mean Aeneas can't turn out to be SkyNet 2.0, Sheela :D

Especially when you consider CentComm's response to that accusation: "I got better"
Sheela 23rd May 2015, 1:12 AM edit delete reply

But, CentComm is SkyNet 2.0 ! :)

Aeneas is the dorky lovechild of CentComm and Rose ?
KarToon12 22nd May 2015, 7:48 AM edit delete reply

Judgement day? I knew it. Cent-Comm is made from Cyberdine. XD
Rms2000 22nd May 2015, 8:57 AM edit delete reply
Is this one of those "Fucks Capacitor" type things? You know: for when you want to store up a bunch of fucks and use them all at once?

On a side note: I'm a little confused about Kyle's role in this... If fixing the AIS is dependant on the introduction of the nanotech that Kyle is carrying, wouldn't it make more sense to have that nanotech catch a ride with Acantha and Lynn? Or is Kyle actually supposed to do some of the fixing himself? And how come Rose is never forthcoming with her plans?
Tokyo Rose 22nd May 2015, 11:50 AM edit delete reply

The nanotech was only the backup plan. It would actually take far too long to be effective in less than several days, and given how events are moving in New Rome, time has become a pressing issue. Kyle has the know-how to start the most vital repairs himself, and to work around and compensate for irretrievably damaged components.

As for transparency... it's a gamble as to whether people will FOLLOW THE PLAN or FUCK UP THE PLAN if they know all the details. In Tokyo Rose's time, she's learned that it's going to be a 50/50 thing anyway, and she hedges her bets by being selective as to who knows what. In this case, if she'd told Kyle his real purpose in the city had nothing to directly do with saving Lynn, he'd have refused her help and fallen at the first hurdle.
Sheela 23rd May 2015, 1:14 AM edit delete reply

Also, as far as most of the world knows, Aeneas kills *anyone* who moves inside the 5 km circle around his core.

So Rose probably don't want neither Lynn, nor Acantha inside that circle.
She might not even know that Acantha can go there without getting harmed.
Tokyo Rose 23rd May 2015, 7:10 AM edit delete reply

The city's air traffic control system tracks Acantha, and she makes little secret of the fact that she goes to visit Aeneas.

Believe me, the Rose knows. ;D
Sheela 23rd May 2015, 12:49 PM edit delete reply

Ah, but does she know that Lynn is also welcome at Aenas' place ?

Kinda ruins the plan, if Lynn goes and gets herself killed, and then have Calliope "glass" the city ?
Stormwind13 23rd May 2015, 8:09 PM edit delete reply

Well if the the tracker is broadcasting and being monitored by a computer which feeds it to Douchimus, Sheela, then Rose would know for sure. It would have tracked her into Aeneas' zone of destruction and marked her exiting it later.
Rashala 22nd May 2015, 1:46 PM edit delete reply

*looks up* GEEZE rose why don't you tell us how you really feel!

But seriously *gets out popcorn sets of uplink camera's and starts a pay perview feed as the show is about to begin!*
MST3KFan 23rd May 2015, 4:59 AM edit delete reply

I feel like some music from Metal Gear Solid would be appropriate here for some reason.
Timotheus 23rd May 2015, 12:32 PM edit delete reply

I don't know, perhaps "Shining Time Station" or "Puffing Billy" would be more appropriate.
Lukkai 23rd May 2015, 9:20 PM edit delete reply

I somehow got the feeling, can't help it, that Miraiko indeed will soon not be there anymore. :-/
Haegan2005 24th May 2015, 12:14 PM edit delete reply

The comp screen in panel 2 reminds me of s staff girls tablet in the Hub.
Mark_L_A 6th Jun 2015, 12:25 AM edit delete reply

I just realized, the guy Miraiko just put down is probably Democlus. So Acantha and Lynn have evidently already gone. I guess I"ll find out monday if that's correct.
