This still isn't looking the best for the good General here. There's still Malati and the Royal Pretorians, one of which is eager to get his gun off...
Well, I have this feeling the prince's guards are not as good as we think they are. the 2 power houses by far are the Cassians. And it looks like one just went down.
Remember that they are not fighting a normal human. Max is genetically enhanced, I suspect for both speed and most definitely for strength. This fight is NOT a forgone conclusion.
There is, however a weak link. Max will likely surrender before his love can get killed, especially if one of them gets past him to lay a weapon on her. Or even if they spread out enough to make sure that someone can shoot past him to hit her.
We will see what the devious duo have done in this scene, and how this will play out. Everyone else is nice, but there are 2 groups atm that are the immediate pivot points. Max's group, and Lynn's group.
Freedom for either of them will ensure a serious fight as they are both rally points for the Army. Without them, resistance will likely fall apart after a bit.
Apologies for the wall of text! It has just been awhile since I have had the energy to sit down and predict what is likely to happen and its fall out. I rather enjoy looking at the plot and trying to anticipate what Cent and Rose are aiming for.
Since my guesses are not always dead on, it just makes the anticipation that much greater for the next page when I can see whether or not I am close or not!
Maxus, is basically the biological version of a Cassian - An intelligent fighting machine.
As for Irene, she has already been at the bad end of an assault before, and if there was ever something to motivate anyone, it's being assaulted. People will train endlessly, to become more secure, should they end up being assaulted again.
And she's had several years to drawn on Maxxus' expertise, she doesn't even have to be able to fight the enemy, just be fast and nimble enough to dodge them, and perhaps get herself to a safe room, so Maxxus doesn't have to be worried about her, and give him room to really go at it at full power.
Plus whatever sneaky stuff they may have added to the house ... like traps, heavy weaponry, armor and perhaps an old war-droid.
Frankly, this fight can go any which way it damn well wants to go, including sideways.
If they put a gun on Irene, that's a hostage situation, which could be construed as a terrorist act, thus the jackboots could lose any and all protection their status as drekhead's thugs provides. If they shoot Irene, that's murder. Again they could lose the protection of their position.
Sheela, whichever way this fight goes, later analysis will show it to require a tesseract to adequately explain how it went down.
.... against my better judgement I'd have to say that I bet on the Machine over the man. Granted Maxus has the specs to match the Cassians one on one I doubt it will stay that way. There's honer and then there's orders.
Still... 10/10 would fight all three for shits n' grins.
As Maxus just pointed out, what's happening right now is an assassination, not a legal proceeding. The Prince's men are effectively immune to repercussions thanks to his personal protection anyway, and they're acting on his direct orders at the moment. No one would be able to bring legal action against them, especially with no witnesses.
Or she might break out the popcorns and go to munch town!
Heck, we know she likes to go to the gladiatorial pits and watch a good fight, and they don't get much better than this!
Meanwhile, Rose is probably streaming a video of this, and taking bets, making a nice profit on the side. :)
I'm still thinking that Irene and her body suit could possibly handle the three "delete" er "elite" guards and/or at least side track a Cassian long enough for hubby/mate to deal with the problem at hand.
I might add that fighting the general hand to hand with an edged weapon knowing he's a master at such combat against automatons might just be a sneaky way of subverting their mission. (Well, we tried...)
Irene has no real combat value.. shes a normal person sadly .. and a sculptress.. shes never been a combative person - she knows some basic self defense but is no superhuman and the suit offers zero protection ..its designed to be "invisible"
It's designed to be really, REALLY invisible, as she has to wear it to do anything of physical significance, and considering her relationship with Maxus...
Frankly, she just have to stay out of harms way, if she can do that, Maxus would be in a better situation, as he would only have to keep himself safe.
Heck, if the cassians and the guards ignores her, she can begin finding stashed weapons and throw them to Maxus - Kinda like Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite.
But Maxus has left himself wide open to Malati, who is so fast she can appear to teleport...
Malati: *grab* *grab* *grope* *fondlebuttslapmassage* *strokerubcaress* Maxus, the fight is over - twitch wrong and my blades go in your vitals. Guards, stand down and return to your duties - I have to check this... mmmm, captive for concealed weapons'n'shit before I take him in. Oh and drag Hrist out of here and get her to maintenance or something... ...Well carry on, men! - you're spoiling the mood- I mean, distracting me! General Maxus is a highly dangerous captive, and there is ever such a lot of him to check over... And as for you, girl, I need to inspect your stock of massage oil. For official reasons. :-3
Arrrgh so frustrating!!!
On the one hand I want to bail on the comic for a few pages to miss this part...
On the other hand I REEEEEEAAAALLLYYY wanna see one of the girls torn in half!
I'm a big scary tiger monster and this ammuses me... I go with plan sit..
I assume the only reason you and Tokyo like having us readers here is just to torment us. I know people like you! The assassin in my group hires a red dot to distract me!! I keep hitting the wall
The problem is, they see themselves as the Rams not lambs of this encounter, Sheela. I think they are very much mistaken; however, enough jackals can bring a lion down.
Speaking as an oft-player of lightning bruisers, getting into melee combat with them in almost any circumstances is a terrible idea. It's also distinctly hard to get out of melee with them.
I wouldn't be surprised if he made full use of anything that engaged him in melee as a shield against ranged weapons and a throwing weapon. He'll also have his opposition disarmed (both definitions) and be using their arms (both definitions) against them almost instantly.
I'd say that Katana will be getting driven through someone's visor.
If they don't take him out really, really fast, he's quite likely to win this engagement and then the civil war will be very, very real.
My rule of thumb, if Maxus is confident then he is rightly so. He's a general for a reason.
I'll bet that entire speech he gave he was analyzing how his opposition would respond and creating a plan.
Before I broke my back I was in Law Enforcement, (Housing Authority Cop/Security) I got into several fights. Being almost 6'4" and weighing 250+ of muscle (Former football player who took Tae Kwon Do in the Army) I ended several fights but just grabbing the person I was fighting with and throwing them into the nearest hard object. (Walls, Cars, Minivans, Trucks, the Ground) which worked really good until I got into a fight with a guy who was almost 7' tall and outweighed me by about 150 lbs. He cracked 3 of my ribs and I broke 3 of my knuckles giving him a concussion, but I didn't have to shoot anybody which I consider a win.
its a weapon just the same as a sword or gun.. demoralize or push off balance .. remember Max knows these two very well. but then he makes it his job to know his men and those under command .. its one of the things that makes him such a good commander .. and if your wondering why only blue and silver guys are here .. No one in the regular army would take this mission and the gold Praetorian are Max's guard.
Oh, I fully realised that the only thing red or gold guys would be doing at this point would be to pump two unsuspecting Cassians full of lead (or energy bolts) and then kindly ask first for their submission upon inflicting enough damage to take them out of the fight (if not going for a coup de grace anyway) and then for further orders from their general.
I am now so completely unsure of what the Cassians have in mind that I think I'll take Malati's advice, and shut up before she ties something of mine into a bow.
Maxus is certainly 'off script' as far as the Cassians are concerned, Hornet. He appears to have a script of his own, and it seems to be going better than the Cassians', so far.
I dunno Stormwind, Last time I remember two people's script's not lining up Romeo and Juliet ended up dying. Not saying it's a love story but plans never fully mesh together well.
Is he really off-script as far as the Cassians are concerned? I mean, they probably know him fairly well and would have to have expected such a reaction.
After a bit of reflection and based on information received so far in this discussion, I'd say the Cassians have set up a battle plan in full concordance with their orders that they know will fail because of their knowledge of the target and are counting on the general realizing this so he doesn't damage them too severely while he overpowers them. Otherwise they'd be using ranged weapons with stun capabilities and a site that would restrict his options like a hall or doorway. (Along with taking hostages first and using a larger strike force, this IS Maxus we're dealing with.)
This still isn't looking the best for the good General here. There's still Malati and the Royal Pretorians, one of which is eager to get his gun off...
Still, the tide seems to be turning!

Methinks she is about to get her head handed to her.
Although, considering Noctis' "Creative" interpretations it might be intentional on her and Malati's Parts.
Wouldn't that be a shame ?
Wouldn't that be a shame too ?
Rather, why they train. I sit and drink beer and eat.
Remember that they are not fighting a normal human. Max is genetically enhanced, I suspect for both speed and most definitely for strength. This fight is NOT a forgone conclusion.

Signs of good writing folks!

Never attack a dragon in it's lair.
Sheela, whichever way this fight goes, later analysis will show it to require a tesseract to adequately explain how it went down.
.. or sideways!
Still... 10/10 would fight all three for shits n' grins.
And he's probably also quite experienced in group brawls too.
As Maxus just pointed out, what's happening right now is an assassination, not a legal proceeding. Aka Motocycle slicer...Aka Hotty and horny beheader.....Aka weird girl playing with action figures.
Heck, we know she likes to go to the gladiatorial pits and watch a good fight, and they don't get much better than this!
Meanwhile, Rose is probably streaming a video of this, and taking bets, making a nice profit on the side. :)
Ya know... *chomp* Popcorn's actually not half bad.... *slurp* It could use butter though...meh *nom*
Those two are in cahoots, I knew it!
I might add that fighting the general hand to hand with an edged weapon knowing he's a master at such combat against automatons might just be a sneaky way of subverting their mission. (Well, we tried...)
Heck, if the cassians and the guards ignores her, she can begin finding stashed weapons and throw them to Maxus - Kinda like Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite.
...but please do not kill her - she has no free will there...
So there is some leeway, in the outcome of this fight, Maxus doesn't have to hold back.
Malati: *grab* *grab* *grope* *fondlebuttslapmassage* *strokerubcaress* Maxus, the fight is over - twitch wrong and my blades go in your vitals. ... she might be sexually adventorous!
Maxus: Incoming...!
Hrist: *tumbles into blue armors*

I'm a big scary tiger monster and this ammuses me... I go with plan sit..
And big dudes like him, are scary when they are fast!
I wouldn't be surprised if he made full use of anything that engaged him in melee as a shield against ranged weapons and a throwing weapon. He'll also have his opposition disarmed (both definitions) and be using their arms (both definitions) against them almost instantly.

Can that happen again ?
