Hrist should have tapped out LONG ago. Instead she crossed swords with Maxus and lost, big time.
Centcomm 21st Jun 2015, 9:37 PM edit delete reply

Yep. pretty much she was done when she got thrown across the room like a little kid ..
Dragonrider 21st Jun 2015, 9:17 PM edit delete reply

By programing I doubt any Cassion has "honor" a survival instinct yes, but yield to gain a tactical advantage is well within the programming.
Centcomm 21st Jun 2015, 9:39 PM edit delete reply

Survival is a high priority yes. and nothing that is sentient wants to die normally.. Shes done with the fight losing a arm and nearly being cut in half ( thats why she hasn't fallen over ) has made this a winnable contest.

Shes hoping Maxus wont kill her just to make sure shes not playing possum.. Shes honestly scared at this point..
Dragonrider 21st Jun 2015, 10:20 PM edit delete reply

I note you did not address the concept of honor.
Centcomm 21st Jun 2015, 10:39 PM edit delete reply

the Cassians normally arent given a situation that Honor can come into play. Most of the time when something like this happens ( and its NOT often ) the perps will destroy the Cassian utterly - In this case She knows Maxus is a honorable man who "hopfully" wont kill her.
Dragonrider 21st Jun 2015, 10:46 PM edit delete reply

Actually would have thought the Cassions would be programmed with something like the Code of Bushido so they would show no hesitation and fight to destruction.
Centcomm 21st Jun 2015, 10:51 PM edit delete reply

it really depends on the Cassian Some would.. there is variables in the personality of them for if no other reason than "the right tool for the job " they have array of methods based on personalty .. Some are better at deductive skills while some are pure combat monsters ( Malati and Nox ) others are more creative ( Noctis ) and some others still are "softer" Hrist..
xpacetrue 21st Jun 2015, 11:27 PM edit delete reply

That variables in personality and so forth makes sense. To have the right tool for a job, one must have a variety of tools to choose from. You could maybe fit a square peg in a round hole... with a big enough hammer. But it's far from ideal.

More than that, if all the Cassians were made from the same mold and had the same personality, that'd make them extremely predictable. That'd be a weakness that their enemies could exploit.

Tokyo Rose 22nd Jun 2015, 1:21 AM edit delete reply

Hrist does, in fact, have a sense of honor, as suggested by the declaration she made at the start of this mess. She and Malati might have been able to finish it in the first few seconds by blowing the door in and taking immediate action. Maxus has quite a reputation for being an upright, honorable, sane man. She chose to treat him as a true opponent, not merely a target. She has more than a touch of overconfidence in her personality, but it's been thoroughly squashed right now, after watching him mow through a half-dozen of the Royal Praetorians and then receiving a stomping herself. As Cent noted, she's surrendering out of a sense of self-preservation and the entirely rational awareness that there is no fucking way she can succeed. She's too badly damaged.
Dragonrider 22nd Jun 2015, 11:54 AM edit delete reply

Cent-Rose thanks for the answers.
anonymous coward 22nd Jun 2015, 12:47 PM edit delete reply
I could only imagine the meddling of a Cent-Rose....
T1-G3R2501 22nd Jun 2015, 1:59 PM edit delete reply
As a dimension hopping individual I haven't come across a Cent-Rose and never want to.
Sheela 23rd Jun 2015, 9:10 AM edit delete reply

What's next, a Tokyo-Comm ?
Outlaw 21st Jun 2015, 9:28 PM edit delete reply

Daaang, this dude ain't playing around, huh?
Centcomm 21st Jun 2015, 9:39 PM edit delete reply

now one little bit :D Nice to see you Outlaw ! :D
xpacetrue 21st Jun 2015, 10:20 PM edit delete reply

One doesn't get to be the champion of Nova Roma's gladiatorial arena by playing around. And he's their finest military leader, too - probably one of the finest in the world. Though, he's not without a sense of honor (unlike Prince Douchebag). He's skilled, strong, patient AND smart. That's a dangerous combo in any opponent. Oh, and at the moment, he's peeved for being betrayed and falsely charged with treason.
Centcomm 21st Jun 2015, 10:41 PM edit delete reply

yes.. He is beyond angry. this is also called "Waking the Dragon"
Stormwind13 22nd Jun 2015, 7:48 AM edit delete reply

Thought they were fighting a little skink, found out it was a ANCIENT Gold Dragon instead. :-D

Never anger a dragon for you are crunchy and good with ketchup. :-D

Speak for yourself: I'm chewy and go better with turmeric, ginger and mustard seed.
DLKmusic 22nd Jun 2015, 3:00 PM edit delete reply
I believe I would go quite well with toast and jam
Mark_L_A 24th Jun 2015, 2:01 AM edit delete reply

A dragon really wouldn't want me. I'm too stringy and with all the metal holding my body together, the dragon would probably hurt his teeth.
lalverson 21st Jun 2015, 10:03 PM edit delete reply
Yes..But looks like in the back round two is about to start and the stakes are a good deal higher.
Centcomm 21st Jun 2015, 10:40 PM edit delete reply

So very very high..
chk 22nd Jun 2015, 9:26 AM edit delete reply

Yeah. That should prove interesting.
Sheela 22nd Jun 2015, 11:12 AM edit delete reply

The stakes are in fact mounted on Malati's arms. *sage nod*
Pirtnac 21st Jun 2015, 10:21 PM edit delete reply
Ouch. If this is their plan to not kill Maxus on a technicality (in this case being turned in to Babushka dolls) then I hope he appreciates how very *very* dedicated they are (in spirit) to not following through their orders.

Random: "I yield me" is middle english? Are we seeing Hrist break to her base personality with the change in phrasing?

Now we get to see how my second favorite Cassian fares. I suspect Maxus is about to remember there are two Cassians in the room. Unless he knows what's happening behind him and is simply ignoring it until he can deal with it.
Centcomm 21st Jun 2015, 10:40 PM edit delete reply

Yes .. Shes frankly scared and hurt badly.. hell anyone else would be dead from those injurys ..

And he knows how dedicated they are .. after all hes conversed with Kali on many many occasions.
mjkj 22nd Jun 2015, 12:45 AM edit delete reply

Pritnac, they are not speaking english, but lamod (modern latin, or was that modified?)
Tokyo Rose 22nd Jun 2015, 1:24 AM edit delete reply

Yup, they're speaking Lamod. Hrist has a wee bit of Arthurian romantic in her personality.
xpacetrue 21st Jun 2015, 10:40 PM edit delete reply

B.Knight: Have at you!
K.Arthur: You are indeed brave, Sir knight, but the fight is mine.
B.Knight:] Oh, had enough, eh?
K.Arthur: Look, you stupid bastard, you've got no arms left.
B.Knight: Yes I have.
K.Arthur: Look!
B.Knight: Just a flesh wound.
K.Arthur: Look, stop that.
B.Knight: Chicken! Chicken!
K.Arthur: Look, I'll have your leg. Right!
B.Knight: Right, I'll do you for that!
K.Arthur: You'll what?
B.Knight: Come 'ere!
K.Arthur: What are you going to do, bleed on me?

Sorry, couldn't resist. ^_^

Edit: Cool! I got the video link to work.
Centcomm 21st Jun 2015, 10:42 PM edit delete reply

Ahh Monty Python :D classic..
Stormwind13 22nd Jun 2015, 2:46 PM edit delete reply

Good one, xpacetrue! Saw someone cosplaying as this Black Knight not too long back. Their costume arms could come off. It was a great costume. :-D
xpacetrue 22nd Jun 2015, 8:16 PM edit delete reply

If it was real chain mail and steel armor, I bet that Black Knight costume was expensive.

You could say it...
( •_•) > ⌐■-■
cost and arm and a leg.

The Old Scribe 21st Jun 2015, 10:55 PM edit delete reply

Maxus is quite the disarming fellow, isn't he?
Haegan2005 21st Jun 2015, 11:00 PM edit delete reply

This is a groaner!
Stormwind13 22nd Jun 2015, 2:50 PM edit delete reply

That was so bad scribe that I may have to get a lawyer and come after you for pun-itive damages. }:-D~>
Haegan2005 21st Jun 2015, 11:03 PM edit delete reply

I am watching the fight progress, though I have to say that if Hrist knew that the Cassians were going to finish the fight, I doubt she would have surrendered. Or for that matter, she and Malati would have gone after Max together instead of separately like they were doing.

I find it telling that Mal is just sitting back there, not engaging. Yup, the Cassians are not really here to take the good general down. Not if they can help it anyways.
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:42 PM edit delete reply

to be fair to all party's .. Hrist DID try.. she just failed.
mjkj 21st Jun 2015, 11:37 PM edit delete reply

Awwww, poor Hrist...

I wonder how the automatic defense system will react when it finally kicks in...
anonymous coward 22nd Jun 2015, 1:14 AM edit delete reply
Maybe it already has, by disrupting the plasma weapons. As the physics of how those plasma rifles were supposed to work is puzzling (at best), I can't make a decent guess how it did that.
Tokyo Rose 22nd Jun 2015, 1:26 AM edit delete reply

Hrist took note of the effect of Protocol Casca here; it has indeed already kicked in by disrupting the plasma weapons.
Mark_L_A 22nd Jun 2015, 12:18 AM edit delete reply

Speechless am I. Flabbergasted also am I.

ETA: ok fifth look. Maxus slash at Hrist's hip, looks like it entered just abpve her right hip bone.

Don't know how to put in an image but here is link to pic to show what I mean.

So the cut came just above the hip down diagonally and it appears it actually partially cut into her spine, which already might have some small damage from hitting the column.

I'm thinking the reason she went to her knees, is because she had no choice, her neural net that controls her right leg at the minimum and possibly part of her left left is that badly damaged. He system might be able to equalize the signals to her legs, but it will take time.

So she yields to avoid total destruction. Possibly it is a feint or a misdirection to gain her time. Or possibly she is going under the creative interpretation of the orders.

We still do not know enough about Hrist to say for sure.

Malati on the other hand. I'm thinking Malati is going to twist her orders to the breaking point barely staying just inside the actually order, without complying with it in anyway.

She MIGHT, put a light cut on Irene in order to satisfy her orders that she DID inflict a harm on Irene and through Irene's harm she harmed Maxus.

But still Malati and Noctis are too twisty.

And I think Hrist will survive this day. Just in a couple of extra pieces to ensure she cannot strike from behind.
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:43 PM edit delete reply

You pretty much called it Mark she only has use of her left arm and torso at this point..

I don't know ! Trust me!

On a completely unrelated sidenote, don't check the freshly dug pit in your garden. :)
DLKmusic 22nd Jun 2015, 1:56 AM edit delete reply

Well, Damn.... That's gotta make Decimus happy!
anonymous coward 22nd Jun 2015, 12:51 PM edit delete reply
The list of things that makes Decimus happy is unusually short and pretty crazy. Why do you think he's gotta kill family, start wars and try to rape his sister for jollies?
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:44 PM edit delete reply

oh? none of this will make him happy .. Max is still breathing ..
cattservant 22nd Jun 2015, 4:30 AM edit delete reply

scene two impinges
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:44 PM edit delete reply

Yes it does..
Stormwind13 22nd Jun 2015, 2:52 PM edit delete reply

It is about to take center stage, catt. :-)
T1-G3R2501 22nd Jun 2015, 7:02 AM edit delete reply
"Why should I take the risk of turning my back on you?"

Right there you know that Maxus knows the Cassians are more than capable to fight minus a limb. The fact that Hrist has been damaged so and Maxus puts little faith into her Yielding cries shows just how precautious Maxus is right now.

One of those two better have a good way of telling Max that he just needs to either chill or trust them... otherwise I'm seeing heads cut off.
Aetrun 22nd Jun 2015, 9:16 AM edit delete reply
I would guess if they told him their orders, word for word, he is smart and wily enough to figure out the plan they are going with. They just had to get to the point where they could.
T1-G3R2501 22nd Jun 2015, 2:02 PM edit delete reply
Malati still has Irene in her grasp though. Max still has not looked over it seems. I'm expecting there to be a slight understanding between Hrist and Maxus then Max looks over at the other two and starts off on a "You dare lie about honor clockwork?" kind of rant.
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:45 PM edit delete reply

Hirst is pretty much down for the rest of this.. She may not be dead but shes not going to be fighting any time soon.
T1-G3R2501 23rd Jun 2015, 5:40 AM edit delete reply
Yes I picked that up when you confirmed that she was mostly cut in half.
Brutal, clever, and has quite the side woman... I still like this comic
KarToon12 22nd Jun 2015, 7:09 AM edit delete reply

The answer to his question is in the background. D:
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:49 PM edit delete reply

yep :D
Deoxy 22nd Jun 2015, 7:19 AM edit delete reply
Sympathy for a "clockwork"... that's a nice touch of character showing there.
anonymous coward 22nd Jun 2015, 12:53 PM edit delete reply
They are rather anthropomorphic AIs, to the point that the one with a blade to Irene's throat wants to bump uglies with humans.
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:50 PM edit delete reply

thank you :D
Tokyo Rose 22nd Jun 2015, 3:14 PM edit delete reply

Not so much sympathy as understanding. Maxus knows enough about how androids work that he recognizes how non-trivial it is for the Cassians to refuse to follow orders. He knows how vital it is for subordinates to have the ability to disobey an unlawful order from a superior. It puts a wholly necessary and rightful burden upon the superior to never give an order that he knows SHOULD be disobeyed.
Lukkai 22nd Jun 2015, 9:24 AM edit delete reply

If her remaining arm really is causing him worry, he could quickly remedy that.
But from the looks of it, she'd need that arm to move around anyway.

I wonder whether Malati will try to exchange Irene against Hrist now and take her leave for "mission goal unachievable, retreat and regroup".
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:51 PM edit delete reply

We shall see..
VanEzzania 22nd Jun 2015, 10:39 AM edit delete reply

Maxus is doing a good job by not turning his back on her just because he took one arm out.
anonymous coward 22nd Jun 2015, 12:55 PM edit delete reply
I'm not so sure; if Malati weren't standing a fair distance away holding his wife hostage she could be doing (or at least trying) all sorts of harful things while his attention isn't on her.
T1-G3R2501 22nd Jun 2015, 2:00 PM edit delete reply
I'm pretty sure he also cut her in half... I'm assuming anyway
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:51 PM edit delete reply

Mostly cut in half. :D
Stormwind13 22nd Jun 2015, 2:57 PM edit delete reply

Not QUITE in half from what it sounds like, T1-G3R; however, she is not fully connected to her lower part. I think it is going to take a body and fender shop some time to put her back together again. Provided she doesn't get finished off by Maxus that is.

Or that some of the other Boys in Blue don't find her first. I imagine some of those sick puppies might have some fantasies that they would love to carry out on a 'helpless' Cassian. I don't think they really get along that well from what Malati said to that one earlier. :-D
Tokyo Rose 22nd Jun 2015, 3:15 PM edit delete reply

Hrist can't fight Maxus with just one arm, but Hrist could sure as hell ruin the day of any number of Nazismurfs with just one arm.
DLKmusic 22nd Jun 2015, 4:10 PM edit delete reply
"Nazismurfs" I still can't stop laughing at that!
Nazismurf 1: We're gonna smurf the smurf out of the general, then go smurfing to celebrate!"

Nazismurf 2: "Shut the smurf up, Psycho-smurf, I will not go smurfing with you again after last smurfin time!"

Nazismurf 3: "Yeah, what Whining-Smurf said. when we're done here, I'm gonna go and spend time with Smurfy-Smurf".
DLKmusic 22nd Jun 2015, 3:15 PM edit delete reply
you know, even though she only has one arm, it is still perfectly capable of breaking something important off if the "Boys in Blue" did try anything.
Stormwind13 22nd Jun 2015, 4:33 PM edit delete reply

True, DLK... The problem is if THEY realize it or not before they start taking casualties... :-)
T1-G3R2501 23rd Jun 2015, 2:00 PM edit delete reply
i'm sorry can we go back to the Nazismurfs and how now this needs to be a thing?
Tokyo Rose 23rd Jun 2015, 3:28 PM edit delete reply

What have I wrought? :D
Mark_L_A 24th Jun 2015, 2:07 AM edit delete reply

Any chance TeeDee or Connie could possibly later calmly drop "Nazismurfs" as a moniker on the junior Douchie's in a later strip?

Melody_Whyte 22nd Jun 2015, 2:24 PM edit delete reply

Oh, just put a sword in her eye socket, Max. She's bullshitting you. The second you turn your back, she's gonna attack. She's working for Prince Douchimus, for God's sake.
Centcomm 22nd Jun 2015, 2:50 PM edit delete reply

owch.. Poor Hrist.. :D and shes not working for him by choice you know..
Draginbeard 23rd Jun 2015, 7:02 AM edit delete reply

Max should just finish Hrist. Now is not the time for musings and debate.
Centcomm 23rd Jun 2015, 10:24 AM edit delete reply

Well he knows Hrist is only following orders .. as he said .. they really really done get a choice.
Sheela 23rd Jun 2015, 5:09 PM edit delete reply

Ant that, ofcourse, makes them almost the perfect piece of evidence against Decimus. :)
Mark_L_A 23rd Jun 2015, 4:24 PM edit delete reply

Thinking about this. H'rist might actually offer up her other arm as a show of her true intentions toward Maxus.

In her offer of yielding, she would allow him to actually disable her totally to show that she means it.

She knows it can be repaired later, and she and he both know she will feel the pain of it.

But to show just how serious she is, she will offer it, to keep Maxus from totally destroying her beyond the means of being repaired.

If she does offer it though. I don't think Maxus will take it.

He IS an honorable man. and hurting an opponent like that would be abhorrent to him and his own honor.
