Wrinkle?!? That wrinkle would need a steamroller to smooth out, CentComm!
Damn Irene, solid steel ones for that move! I was shocked she went there. I'm pretty sure that surprised Malati. Only reason I can think of for it connecting.
I dunno, TI-G3R2501. The death count here seems pretty low over all....
- Ada and Kyle (who both got better),
- 1 redshirt by Kali's hand,
- a drug dealer and 4 bodyguards by Hrist's Hand
- 6 terrorists (I think, we never got a confirmation of the actual number) and thier leader Oratorio by Malati's hand
- a sick perverted.... let's not even go there... by the hands of the New Troy police force...
- Approx half a dozen red shirts at port authority by the hand of thier own commander's stupidity
- Half a dozen NaziSmurfs by the hand of Maxus here.
Considering what all has been going on, that's not bad.
By the Way, has anyone notified Gargamel.... err, Setorus.... that he has 6 Nazismurfs he can come pick up yet?
Malati probably have the physical advantage, but Dolly is sneaky and is a veteran both at herding smart people, and protecting them - So she knows how to handle a fight and make sneaky plans that upsets her opponents.
I'm thinking they would be fairly even.
Oh, and TeeDee died too, but she also got better.
Also, Nazismurfs is still a funny name and I'm sure Gargamel . erhh, Setorius, knows all about his new study material. :D
That's a pottery tool. Which she probably had in her pocket. I've used tools similar to that in the past. And it can hurt you BADLY if you aren't careful with it.
ETA: to addendum Xpace - If Irene strikes inward and down, she will force Malatis' own blade into Malati's OTHER hand. The one resting on Irene's collarbone.
A third thought is. The collar of Irene's Nano Frame. It has to be light and almost not there. But just how tough is it? It covers almost Irene's entire throat.
So, a highly trained assassin android has a blade to Irene's throat. And she uses a tiny weapon (a pottery knife) to stab the hand holding the blade to her throat? Brave, sure. But I'd also have to call that foolish.
We can't see much of the 3rd panel. Perhaps Irene managed to duck while stabbing the hand. Otherwise, since the blade is literally part of her hand, Malati couldn't drop the blade even if she wanted to (which she doesn't). So there's nothing stopping the blade from cutting. Indeed, from that angle, the force of Irene's blow should push the blade towards her throat.
Whatever has happened, Malati is now in deep fecal matter. Malati is now injured (her weapon hand, no less) and distracted. This gives Maxus an opening to close the distance.
Irenes Nano suit is Durable yes. But Malati's blades are Dualloy composite and have a hardened razor sharp edge they would go though the Nano frame like a hot blade thorough butter
Just a thought. But notice the sparks coming from Malati's hand. Is it possible Irene just damaged whatever mechanism that extends and retracts Malati's blades?
It might retract fully and not re-extend, or it could partially retract.
Now if her blades are similar to Wolvie's, her hand MUST be held in a certain position for them to extend/retract.
If Irene just damaged the mechanism, and the blade tries to retract with Malati's hand out of alignment, it could do greater damage to Malati, than Irene's strike did.
So Malati may find herself down one of her two main weapons because of Irene's attack. And also very inconvenienced.
If she cannot retract it, and cannot extend it, she might not be able to use her hand properly without causing herself even greater damage. whether or not she actually cares about that, I don't know. But Irene's blow could be almost like Maxus lopping off H'rist's arm.
Irene's even acknowledging that it's foolish, but she will not just stand there helplessly. She refuses to be a victim or a damsel in distress or a passive tool to be used against her lover. It's already been made clear that the Cassians are there to kill Maxus. Maxus will surrender to save her life, and then Malati will murder him, and she knows it--so she's willing to try to fight her way out of Malati's grip, or even force Malati to kill her. It would at least give Maxus a chance to kill Malati, or put up a fight, instead of trying to trade his life for Irene's.
Malati may not have seen what Irene was doing. But Maxus sure could. He sees what Irene is doing, so as she strikes he can use his speed to advantage to advance on Malati.
Maxus is a Master of Combat, he probably thinks in terms of combat much faster than any Cassian. So as he see's Irene preparing to strike, while he may be cringing inside, he is also preparing to take advantage of it.
Malati does not have the blade right at Irene's throat though.
That's a sign of professionalism, really. If you put the blade right on the skin, all kind of unwanted bad things can happen just by accident. No matter how good you are, you lose quite a lot of control that way.
GOOD catch Lukkai .. Malati does NOT have the blade " right to her throat" she has it where she could do one of several things very quickly. Sadly that includes gutting Trene like a fish. probably before Maxus could even move. Remember.. Malati is FAST the only reason Max dodged that first time was he was a secondary target.. not her primary. so all he had to do was move slightly away from her path ..
It all depends on where Malati's attention is. She thinks that Irene is cowed and won't do anything, and Maxus is the largest credible threat in the room.
So her attention is on Maxus and not Irene. As Irene starts this down low out of Malati's field of view which is blocked by Irene's own body, she can be taken by surprise by a swift strike.
And I still think that Malati has some way of subverting her orders. Right now she is more concerned with protecting Hrist from Maxus while still avoiding actually following her orders.
Next thing you know, Malati tell Irene that it doesn't hurt, but that she thought it was a very nice move.
/crazy theory ON :
oh noes .. now Malati couldn't possibly be able to defeat Maxus, her mission demands her retreat! *wink* wink* nudge* *nudge*
And then she leaves, leaving both Irene and Maxus flabbergasted.
"KZZZT!" Is that a short circuit we're seeing? I know the Cardassians are tough, but a point specific strike like that could damage something delicate. It's also a momentary distraction which gives Maxus an opening to take Malati down.
Don't think that would be all that good an idea though. As much as the idea seems attactive at first, there's a good reason as to why we developed the ability to feel pain.
Pain exists for reasons and for more than most realize.
Aside from the obvious - warning you that you've been damaged - there are additional reasons. Research has shown that pain mounts your body's repair and defense mechanisms to deal with the problem. Another words, you heal faster. Block the pain, and you don't heal as fast.
Staying on pain killers all the time is a bit like taking wire snips and cutting all the warning lights to your auto's dash board. You won't feel/see the warning signs, but that doesn't mean major problems don't exist.
Unfortunately, despite the marvels of modern medicine, a lot of it is about suppressing the symptoms - such as pain - instead of dealing with the root problem.
Some women (not too many know about this option, since most doctors and hospitals are pawns of the pharmaceutical companies these days) use hypnosis as a means of blocking the pain without drugs
Whatever the out come she is no longer a victim.
Damn Irene, solid steel ones for that move! I was shocked she went there. I'm pretty sure that surprised Malati. Only reason I can think of for it connecting.
There is a second reason for Malati not reacting to it though... I'm betting that she sincerely does not want to hurt Irene.
I vote for that one. :)

And no .. not yet .. and theres a good reason for that.
Lets also not forget the gutters Dolly and Ceci killed ( 4 total )
I did forget about the gutters that Dolly and CeCi killed though.
Even so, that's a remarkably low body count.
I'm thinking they would be fairly even.

(referrs back to the F-16 fighting a sopwith camel comment earlier).

malati is this superduper combat android.. trained for fighting.. superhuman reflexes...
but a regular non-combat trained human, can stab her in her own hand before malati can react??
I'm sorry but that seems all kind of wrong to me :(

That is my take on this.
Would you be willing to say HOW perceptive?
:D

Go, Irene!
They're going to sex each other up ?
I did not expect that!
Hahaha I'm happy to be part of the club! Thanks guys! :D
*sits in the corner and shoots up his heroin like a normal person*
Dammit, why are everyone wearing combat boots ?
Its hard to find plaid slippers dangit.
I'm totally innocent!
Unless she has turned her painreceptors off.
The lingering pain is kind of irrelevant! And more than annoying at times!

Cent, I ALSO hope y'all got your plumbing sorted out ok. I'd've loved to help, but Baltimore to Phoenix is a long commute.
Ah well, damn the tubes!
