Unless Nox is further away then I thought, this group is going to end up dealing with her for a few pages before Max can possibly arrive. Nox is already on the trail. Max is only just starting. This could get... interesting!
Keep in mind that events are happening simultaneously--this is why the sequences are being timestamped. At 0405, Nox has not yet reached the guest suite. When she does, she'll search it, determine the girls aren't there, and begin tracking Lynn's bracelet.
Run for it, ladies! Democlus better stay sharp, though. There's a killer Cassian on their trail and it ain't gonna be pretty when she catches up. Dolly and CeCi better get a wiggle on if they wanna prevent bloodshed.
Hifranc called it .. her disease doesn't affect her that strongly yet she does get seizures. But she takes medications to help but she is able for the most part to live normally.
Its just a regular old wide fashion belt. Arianna along with most slaves are barred from carrying weapons ( unless trained for it. ) or in special cases. ie with express permission. Arianna is a administrator .. not a gun slinger.
And this wouldn't be a special case situation?
(Not that I'm saying she should be carrying a gun, just that if the current outbreak of riots, explosions, assassinations, rebellions, invasions, and general unpleasantness wouldn't justify Max authorizing her for a side arm I don't know what would.)
IF Max had known the prince was going psycho crazy and that assassins were knocking on his door he would have armed her up. But normally a Slave carrying a unauthorized weapon is subject to heavy punishment.
Heck, if Maxus has known about the assasination attempt, he would have armed HIMSELF up, and the assasination attempt by Malati and Hrist would have been a short attempt indeed.
Arianna left Maxus's suite more than ten minutes before 0400. He had no idea that there was about to be any riots, explosions, assassinations, etc, and so there was no reason to kit her out.
(And since there wasn't any reason to hurry, Arianna took her time heading for the guest suite. When shit started happening, she picked up speed, and that's why she's meeting them now.)
And Democlus shows why he was promoted. Instant decision protect the primary and as many secondaries as necessary and get the OUT of the line of fire as quickly as possible.
I just hope he doesn't pay for his dedication with his life. I really hope he and Arianna can get their happy ending.
Also I think Nox will have something to give her pause now. Remember she is to remove Aantha and Lynn and leave no witnesses. However Democlus' Armor, weapons and skills will force her to take a more measured approach unless she wants to just blast him and Arianna at the outset. And his armor probably would allow him to survive long enough to possibly inflict crippling or disabling damage on her before he goes down.
Don't forget what Hrist said about Nox -- her orders are to keep Acantha and Lynn alive. She hates humans so much that she would willingly blast anybody else away. In short, she makes TeeDee (whilst she was still suffering from reload trauma) look restrained.
Normally one might agree, but Nox is the one who counts Decimus's heartbeats; she hates humans with a holy passion, but she reserves her greatest loathing for Decimus himself. She IS the one that usually gets sent when you absolutely, positively have to kill everybody in the room, though--men, women, children, the elderly, the sick, everybody.
Awww everyone is so paranoid over the prince and his - ahem - mood disorders, when really he just wants to be loved. I promise, if everyone would just submit to his will, they would all receive his love in return. Even if it kills them.
I think that Arianna just ran into them, mjkj. Probably because her path from Maxus' suite to Acantha's suite intersect quite a bit. Acantha wants to get into the bowels of the palace and Maxus' suite seems to be most of the way downstairs. At least judging from the safe room he put Irene in.
While it sort of makes sense, she should also come to the conclusion that anyone gunning for Drekhead, is quite likely to be people from New Troy, and thus interested in Lynn as well.
Still, that just means getting the hell out of dodge even more important - They might not be willing to talk first, and shoot later.
I'm voting! I'm voting! In between Japanese schoolgirls driving tanks and fighting zombie outbreaks and the Japanese Self Defense Force invading a fantasy realm to slay dragons and rescue cat girls. (I watch a lot of Crunchyroll)
makes me wonder why arianna is running around trying to find the princess?

*wiggle* *wiggle* *wiggle* :D
It would not stop her legs from working ... probably.

Not that it was a long one as it were. >_<

So this throws a monkey wrench in the plans.

Nothing like a bit of honesty to lighten the mood. :D
It all makes sense!

Just a thought, have ya'll considered a "Queen Acantha" story line after this one concludes? I'm really starting to like her character.
How about, Queen TeeDee?
I think it has a nice ring to it. :)
For that matter, Acantha's survival is NOT assured with CentComm and Rose in charge! :-P
... the heck?
