I love the last panel! the Blades are out Gents! the sharp pointies are in play!
Centcomm 29th Sep 2015, 9:16 PM edit delete reply

Demo's blade is out .. Nox's are not yet deployed :D
Mark_L_A 29th Sep 2015, 9:21 PM edit delete reply

So that is the underside of Democlus' blade in the last panel.
Centcomm 29th Sep 2015, 10:02 PM edit delete reply

Yep thats Demos power blade :D
Haegan2005 29th Sep 2015, 9:30 PM edit delete reply

Okay, I jumped the blade(err gun...) a little!
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 1:54 AM edit delete reply

heh! Indeed! :D
Hornet 30th Sep 2015, 7:05 AM edit delete reply
Don't feel bad I though that was a Nox launched blade, as well.
Lukkai 1st Oct 2015, 2:57 PM edit delete reply

Actually Nox jumped the gun.

Well, the gun shot.
jamie59 29th Sep 2015, 9:02 PM edit delete reply

Damm she's fast!
Centcomm 29th Sep 2015, 9:15 PM edit delete reply

She is very very fast. actually to properly view this fight ,... blink. and its over.
chk 29th Sep 2015, 10:09 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, what jamie said. Damn that woman is fast!
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 1:54 AM edit delete reply

Quicker than you can blink :D
Aetrun 1st Oct 2015, 9:12 AM edit delete reply
Don't Blink!
StellarJay 30th Sep 2015, 2:21 AM edit delete reply

I was always advised to avoid fast women. I think it was good advice.
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 2:46 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, they get speeding tickets all the time !
Stormwind13 1st Oct 2015, 1:43 PM edit delete reply

I'm not sure anyone would be brave enough to give Nox a speeding ticket, Sheela. Somehow, I don't think she would be amused.
Lukkai 1st Oct 2015, 2:58 PM edit delete reply

I think Malati would have enjoyed it. (Dang, I miss her already.)
Sheela 1st Oct 2015, 3:54 PM edit delete reply

While Malati was somewhat psychotic, she was also a great character.

She is missed.
Mark_L_A 29th Sep 2015, 9:08 PM edit delete reply

Ahhh, a Sinanju practitioner.

This should be good.

ETA: did her staff just fire something at Democlus in that last panel?
Centcomm 29th Sep 2015, 9:15 PM edit delete reply

Nope She didnt fire anything at all. Nox has no ranged weapons at all. actually her fighting style is more closely related to Arnis although there is some other stuff mixed in.
Dragonrider 30th Sep 2015, 5:49 AM edit delete reply

One might easily classify Nox as a ranged weapon.
chk 30th Sep 2015, 8:51 AM edit delete reply

more like deranged
Lukkai 1st Oct 2015, 2:59 PM edit delete reply

*rimshot*

Brilliant! :D
Laszlo 30th Sep 2015, 4:43 PM edit delete reply
<quote>Ahhh, a Sinanju practitioner.</quote>

I've read much in the past on Sinanju, but I don't get where your reference is coming from in this page.
Mark_L_A 1st Oct 2015, 9:54 AM edit delete reply

Remo Williams.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remo_Williams:_The_Adventure_Begins
Laszlo 2nd Oct 2015, 8:21 AM edit delete reply
I get the reference to Sinanju itself, just not where you are tying it in on this page. I've got the first 90 or so books of the series before the series went "bleh". Started reading them back in the 80's
Mark_L_A 2nd Oct 2015, 11:37 AM edit delete reply

Nox is dodging Dem's fire like Remo Williams.

:D
Draginbeard 29th Sep 2015, 9:12 PM edit delete reply

Excellent lighting, very well done!
Centcomm 29th Sep 2015, 9:16 PM edit delete reply

Thank you! :D these were quite the pain in the tookis !
Mark_L_A 29th Sep 2015, 9:19 PM edit delete reply

Ok, you can't leave me a line like that and NOT expect me to say something.

Photo of said pained Tookis?

:p
Centcomm 29th Sep 2015, 10:03 PM edit delete reply

Centcomm Tookis :D
anonymous coward 29th Sep 2015, 10:33 PM edit delete reply
The obvious response for your query is... Goatse. Why would you set yourself up for that?
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 1:55 AM edit delete reply

*deadpan* No.. Just.. no.
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 2:48 AM edit delete reply

It would be a very roomy Tookis, though.
It would be able to contain quite a lot of pain.

Bonus points for not being your own Tookis too! :D
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 2:58 AM edit delete reply

*blink blink* this .. sure went weird fast.
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 5:55 AM edit delete reply

Hrm .. a bit.

Maybe a bit silly as well. :D
Mark_L_A 30th Sep 2015, 11:35 AM edit delete reply

Weird and silly is the new norm now.

:D
anonymous coward 30th Sep 2015, 10:19 PM edit delete reply
This is the internet, filled with many, many bored and/or perverted people. Referencing butts is usually a mistake unless you want to inspire butt-topical conversation.
Lukkai 1st Oct 2015, 3:02 PM edit delete reply

Still, I'm kinda surprised someone brought up goatse again. I'd have thought that one had long fallen into obscurity.
Sheela 1st Oct 2015, 3:55 PM edit delete reply

That's another quirk of the intenets, it never forgives and it never forgets.
CptKerion 1st Oct 2015, 3:59 PM edit delete reply
I... am... confused... and I am realizing that MAN I have been away for too long.
That one guy 1st Oct 2015, 5:42 PM edit delete reply
Ah, but shocking things that fade to obscurity gain the power to shock yet again. That keeps such things from fading so quickly.
Fjolsvith 1st Oct 2015, 7:15 PM edit delete reply

It tookis a wrong turn!
Mark_L_A 2nd Oct 2015, 11:39 AM edit delete reply

Fjolsvith ::thumbsup::

>>>LOVE<<< The Smile poster. Democlus owes her for killing the Smurf wannabe's? I have to coin a term for Nox here, Ultra Supermax Sociopath. It does seem Nox may be due for a surprise tap on the shoulder next page, she didn't notice the second arrow on her way in. Oh Well breaks of the game.
Centcomm 29th Sep 2015, 10:05 PM edit delete reply

Actually all the barrels have gone boom by now. and yes Nox is very broken. Im glad you like the smile sign :D as for a tap on the shoulder, hehehe I think you will like what happens.
Dragonrider 30th Sep 2015, 5:53 AM edit delete reply

OH GOODIE Nox will have an attack of "Universal Peace, Love, Goodwill and Friendship" for all humans everywhere. She will run up to Douchie and proceed to "Love him to death."
anonymous coward 29th Sep 2015, 10:36 PM edit delete reply
I, too, enjoy the poster but it seems a bit off... like it belongs in Paranoia more than in Nova Roma where it should be written in Lamod if it even exists at all.
mjkj 29th Sep 2015, 11:27 PM edit delete reply

Well, it is a relic from pre-war times - when people still spoke english in this area not lamod nor stanglish...
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 1:58 AM edit delete reply

Exactly Mjkj .. it is Pre-war and its in English most of these signs are "jokes" put there by Aeneas before the incident.

Also " Stanglish " is being ret-conned into " Standard "
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 2:58 AM edit delete reply

Or maybe he truly believed in the magic of friendship, and that if you smiled at the world, the world would smile back!
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 2:59 AM edit delete reply

Indeed! A little smile goes a long way!
Kitty 30th Sep 2015, 5:31 PM edit delete reply
If Nox ever smiles, I don't think I'd want to see it. Pretty sure it would be the last thing I'd see.
Hornet 30th Sep 2015, 7:10 AM edit delete reply
Somehow such a "hippy" sentiment wouldn't surprise me from Aeneas at least not from what he is now.
Lukkai 1st Oct 2015, 3:03 PM edit delete reply

I'm now imagining Aeneas as a Paranoia GM.

That would be a game to remember!
CptKerion 1st Oct 2015, 4:00 PM edit delete reply
I would want to play in that game so much.
The Old Scribe 29th Sep 2015, 9:36 PM edit delete reply

One order of flash fried Blueshell on the half shell to go, please. My, my, Noxie's an agile little thing isn't she? That Bo staff of hers is an interesting weapon. Blades on one end, shock stick on the other. Is Demo firing at her or at more barrels?
Centcomm 29th Sep 2015, 10:05 PM edit delete reply

Actually ill do a tech entry on her weapon soon enough :D it is a bit hard to see clearly right now :D
chk 29th Sep 2015, 10:22 PM edit delete reply

Plan, Part 1 - Success.

Plan, Part 2 - Not so much.
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 1:58 AM edit delete reply

Yep .. its what he was afraid of actually. Nox is fully functional and at 100%
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 2:59 AM edit delete reply

Well, at least he gets to test himself against a Cassian, like he always wanted to.

There's a silver lining in everything.
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 6:19 AM edit delete reply

This is true.
HiFranc 30th Sep 2015, 2:54 PM edit delete reply

Something tells me that it'll be the last thing he does.
Tango Xray Actual 29th Sep 2015, 10:27 PM edit delete reply
Sweet artwork!

Still think the ka-Boom should have been way bigger given the confined space and that there were four more barrels INSIDE the room with Dem.
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 1:59 AM edit delete reply

true .. that it could have been bigger I suppose. Sorry about that.
anonymous coward 29th Sep 2015, 10:42 PM edit delete reply
You know, if the revolt that's sweeping into the palace here had a good PR division they could probably get some pretty good use out of the footage from Democlus' stand. Is the sign accurate, do the cameras still work, did they catch it all, did they get a good angle on the humiliating end of a squad of Decimus' thugs?
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 1:59 AM edit delete reply

Sadly the cameras only feed to the AIS core.
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 3:00 AM edit delete reply

Who knows, Aeneas might be watching, while singing an 80's hairband song and eating buttered popcorn.
mjkj 29th Sep 2015, 11:22 PM edit delete reply

Nice explosion =)

Wow, Nox is fast...

...I just hope Demo can match her speed...

Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 1:59 AM edit delete reply

we shall see!
Matt Knab 30th Sep 2015, 2:11 AM edit delete reply

At least one on one now. I don't know if that's any better, though...
StellarJay 30th Sep 2015, 2:24 AM edit delete reply

We were previously informed that there are differing levels of ability among the cassians. Nox is one of the better ones, if I remember correctly.
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 2:43 AM edit delete reply

Correct Nox is one of the Cassians best killers.
Her specialty is High speed one on one combat. Although her skill also extends to group combat..

Why she will charge in solo to a group of armed men is unknown and considered suicidal to even other Cassians.
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 3:02 AM edit delete reply

To everyone but the late Malati .. she would've beeen watching with great interest.
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 5:00 AM edit delete reply

Malati was a fast assault and stealth specialist. She also was used for Targeted strikes. :D
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 5:56 AM edit delete reply

I see, Nox doesn't do stealth, does she ?
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 6:18 AM edit delete reply

Not even a little. She prefers a flat out war zone.
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 7:36 AM edit delete reply

She must be pretty happy with the current situation then.
So many targets, so little time. :)
Stormwind13 30th Sep 2015, 11:02 AM edit delete reply

Nox doesn't think of it as being outnumbered, but just as a target RICH environment. :-D Happy as a pig in its own pen!
Greenwood Goat 30th Sep 2015, 3:06 AM edit delete reply
No cohorts or allies for Nox, then, only deferred targets.

Nox: ...Then, with the objective complete, the squad commander became insubordinate and had to be terminated. His squad then moved to act in retaliation, and I killed them in self defence. There were three civilian witnesses, who I disposed of as a precaution and in order to prevent reports from leaking out and concomitant damage to morale and order. Now, it is possible that this encounter was witnessed by our surveillance cameras, and I would consider it wise to conduct a purge of-

Kali: There will be no more purges or examinations of our public surveillance teams by you. This is a direct order. And perhaps I should start accompanying you on missions again... I never seem to encounter these acts of insubordination that you seem to be beset by, in spite of our equally fearsome reputations...

Nox: ...! By your command.

Kali: Now, there have been reports of a possible plot at the Arena tonight. You will be part of a visible presence-

Malati: And if might volunteer to, ah, partner or assist Nox on this... it's kind of my home-from-home, and I know how stuff works there, so I think I oughtta be there to stop any of those dangerous gladiators from getting all up and insubordinate with anyone... right?

Kali: That seems... sensible. Very well.

Nox: ...~#!!

Malati: (to herself) Don't worry, big boys, your best friend Malati's gonna keep you safe from nasty old Nox. :-3

>:=)>
Centcomm 30th Sep 2015, 5:01 AM edit delete reply

LOL! good one!
Sheela 30th Sep 2015, 5:59 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, i bet that Malati was their favorite patron. :)

I wonder if they will mourn her though ?
Violently. In the streets. Against Decimus' troops ! Long live Queen Acantha!
DLKmusic 30th Sep 2015, 11:37 AM edit delete reply

Sadly, Sheela, I think that there may be a total of 2 people who are not cassians that will mourn the passing of Malati... Max and Irene. Everyone else was terrified of her, even the ones she liked.

Sheela 1st Oct 2015, 3:57 PM edit delete reply

I dunno, methinks that some of the Gladiators got to know her a lot more .. intimately, than even most cassians did.
Johninaustin 30th Sep 2015, 6:39 AM edit delete reply
I miss Malati. :(

Nox, (Who I keep confusing with Noctis) Really makes me wonder if there is some sort of evalulation/performance program for Cassians. Having her around seems to imply a lot of employee replacement costs.
Sheela 1st Oct 2015, 3:58 PM edit delete reply

Malati was .. very interesting.
And she made for some interesting stories, and as such, she was a very successful character. :)

We do miss her.
hiroprotagonist 30th Sep 2015, 11:23 AM edit delete reply
Hmmm .. I think that nox is too quick for dolly and ceci to be the cavalry .. or even acantha and lynn ... hmm ... who else is close? ;)
Guest 30th Sep 2015, 12:21 PM edit delete reply
I don't know about that, Hiro... I think Ceci is just as fast, but we just haven't really been able to see that speed at work up to this point.
Hiroprotagonist 30th Sep 2015, 3:46 PM edit delete reply
Hmm ... I think someone else also has eyes in the room. And there is an interesting visual clue in the last frame. But if dem wins on his iwn that would be superheroic andbtotally awesome. Just dont let himdie. Too much shipping invested.
Just_IDD 1st Oct 2015, 9:36 AM edit delete reply
@Hiroprotagonist I think you are seeing Demo's shadow since part is attached to something that should not have a shadow, and both terminate where that last shot impacts. I would expect that the beam would cause shadows not leave one.
Hiroprotagonist 1st Oct 2015, 2:24 PM edit delete reply
I think the other eyes in the room are not casting a shadow. And what is that flash in the last panel?
Tokyo Rose 1st Oct 2015, 2:46 PM edit delete reply

The blue flash in the last panel is Democlus's power sword.
Gilrandir 30th Sep 2015, 3:20 PM edit delete reply
At this point Democulus has already won ... or else he's lost. Against an opponent with such superior speed/strength/armor/etc. his only chance would be superior logistics/tactics. Since he's not going to be able to outlast her, I am hoping he is silently counting down in his head about the grenade between his feet whose pin he already pulled _before_ opening fire on the barrels. Just before it goes off he runs/leaps away, hoping this takes Nox just enough by surprise that she gets her own faceful of BOOM before she can react. Otherwise, his "testing himself against a Cassian" looks like an embarrassing flop.

Of course, he has already reconciled himself to the 'rearguard sacrifice' role, and on that count he has already achieved a significant success.

However, the best rescue would be, since Cassian communications are intact and Noctis has received carte blanche, for Noctis to recall Nox from her errand citing the higher priority of her plan, which has been approved by the Prince.

"I need you to inventory all the dry goods in all the kitchens in the Imperial Palace. Be thorough and don't kill anyone unless necessary. The authority for this comes directly from the Prince. Thank you."
Dragonrider 30th Sep 2015, 6:50 PM edit delete reply

More likely I need you to attack the communications hub and remove the mutant that took over our communications.
DLKmusic 30th Sep 2015, 11:23 PM edit delete reply

or even more likely, "Stop the other intruder."

Although, I'm hoping that that particular scenario will play out before she finishes fighting Democlus.
Gilrandir 1st Oct 2015, 1:56 PM edit delete reply
Theoretically Nox is the Cassian you _least_ want going up against a Cyberpath. Remember Noctis is using a sniper because you don't want the Cyberpath getting close and suborning your Cassians. If Nox doesn't take them out before they know they are there, suddenly she's working for the enemy -- which may be all kinds of poetic justice, but isn't really in the interests of New Sparta.
Centcomm 1st Oct 2015, 8:14 PM edit delete reply

Nox is still committed to The princes Orders Noctis cant countermand that.
Kitty 30th Sep 2015, 5:36 PM edit delete reply
If Democlus doesn't get her, I bet Ceci will.

"Look, mommy! Flash-fried Cassian coming right up! Might be a little charred, though!"
Pirtnac 1st Oct 2015, 12:13 AM edit delete reply
Money is on Dolly for that. Nox hates humans, and right now Dolly is registering as human. Nox going down permanently to a "meatsack" with a questionable relationship with a comfort gynoid from hell just screams karmic justice.

I hope Demo does well. Max picked him for a reason, perhaps he's good enough to take down a Cassian. I suspect we'll see soon.
highlander55 1st Oct 2015, 6:12 AM edit delete reply

Maybe Dem is enhanced like Max is. Time will tell.
Centcomm 1st Oct 2015, 8:16 PM edit delete reply

Thats a amusing mental image :D
DizzasterJuice 1st Oct 2015, 6:56 AM edit delete reply

Love that special effect blast in the first panel!
Centcomm 1st Oct 2015, 8:16 PM edit delete reply

thanks :D I appreciate it!
Cal 1st Oct 2015, 10:24 AM edit delete reply
Cent, it is strips like this one that made me give up trying it. Y'all're just too good.

Holding my breath for the resolution of Dem's fate...
Centcomm 1st Oct 2015, 8:17 PM edit delete reply

Aww - im more hoping people, will try to do better :D
That one guy 1st Oct 2015, 2:47 PM edit delete reply
Warning to all Patreons, Patreon reported a hack so you should log in and change your password there.

Details I saw (haven't looked fully yet) stated registered names, e-mail addresses, physical addresses, and salted password hashes were stolen for normal users. Creators could've had their encrypted social security numbers and tax ID info stolen too (so maybe ok, just depends on how/where they stored the key and if it was generated well).

Salted password hashes shouldn't be that dangerous, but still a good idea to change the password. Especially if you are a person who shares passwords between websites (then changing for all using it would be good, ideally to different ones, software like Password Safe or KeePass can help with that).
Centcomm 1st Oct 2015, 8:18 PM edit delete reply

Actually they corrected that. So yeah the data they stole was encrypted and useless. also Patreon does not actually store any CC info so thats safe too :D
they released several emails about it.,
CptKerion 1st Oct 2015, 4:14 PM edit delete reply
So I'm really hoping that the cavalry arrives in time. Ceci and Dolly may not make it, I'd like for it to be Max, but I don't think he'd have made it here yet either... aaannnyone else... Miraiko was her name, yes?
Her, I'm putting my money on her.
Oooooor Aeneas may do something fun. Who knows.

Also, got a question here for my future in my hobby of figuring out how to counter things. What effect would, say, a blast of flaming magnesium pellets and white phosphorous do to Nox?
That one guy 1st Oct 2015, 5:39 PM edit delete reply
Ceci said there was only one group of hostiles between them and Lynn, and she said it was blue guys and an android noted to "hate humans more than murder-turds hate everything" which sounds like Nox (reference comics are Comic 1296 - Pithed Off, Comic 1297 - Not Harmless, & Comic 1298 - Priorities for those bits of info). I think Dolly and Ceci are likely bets for people to catch up. Possibly seeing Decimus fighting Nox will keep them from killing him as a hostile.

Miraiko left that area an hour ago to wreak her own havok. My suspicion is Miraiko's leavings are the other hunter Nox noticed and told Noctis about. Her statements to Julia and Kyle both suggest that she's going to make sure Decimus' time on this side of the sod is limited. She's more likely to meet Maxus, in my opinion, which means one of them can distract Kali.
Centcomm 1st Oct 2015, 8:19 PM edit delete reply

Provided you could actually hit her. they would do surface damage or more depending on contact. Cassians aren't indestructible. just bloody fast.
cattservant 1st Oct 2015, 11:44 PM edit delete reply

Things are getting pointed,
edgy too!
