Whoops! It don't look good for the home team, folks. Shock blade to the chest, wrist broke, unless Demo's got some secret fightin' trick he ain't used yet, Red Eye Nox's gonna eat his lunch and spit it out. She's a creepy lil' thing, ain't she? I wanna see that blonde head ripped clean off.
Centcomm 4th Oct 2015, 10:59 PM edit delete reply

My oh My someone does not like ole Nox. and yes shes very creepy!
Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 1:13 AM edit delete reply

It's kinda her speciality, isn't it ?
Haegan2005 5th Oct 2015, 4:32 AM edit delete reply

At this point it is cavalry time or, alas, we lose this gent.
madned 5th Oct 2015, 6:51 PM edit delete reply
what's wrong with nox? this is clearly a first date scenario.
if he gets reconstituted he's clearly going to get a copy of the surveillance recording to regale their progeny with tales of how Nox skewered him at first sight and crushed him in her passioned grip :P
jamie59 4th Oct 2015, 9:08 PM edit delete reply

Damm! Guess that means no date.
anonymous coward 4th Oct 2015, 9:18 PM edit delete reply
The fat lady has not yet finished her aria. I'll be disappointed however this turns out though: Either he gets rescued by Ceci ex Machina or he kacks it from a fight that he couldn't win against an opponent that beat him while farting in his general direction.
Mark_L_A 4th Oct 2015, 10:17 PM edit delete reply

There are a few other possibilities. He might be beaten and severely injured. However, he still has legs, Nox isn't sitting low on his hips so he could possibly kick out of this enough to break her grip and get his sword back into play. There is also no telling what "other" weapons he might have on him. Anything from a small knife to a micro-fusion grenade or even a stun grenade.

A cop I used to know had his main pistol a back up pistol, a hold out pistol, also his baton, an expandable baton, a spring baton, large pepper spray small pepper spray, then finally two stun guns. Looking at him, all you would see were his main pistol, baton and one of the pepper sprays, you didn't see any of the other stuff because of the way he set up his duty belt.

So Dem may have a little something extra we don't know about, if he can just force Nox to give him a little room.

Orrrr, Arianna could have refused to go and is on the other side of the door and has found something to use as a weapon, or CeCI and Dolly could come through the door. You never know until it happens.

Especially with our authoresses the Lady Cent and the Lady Rose at the helm.
Kitty 5th Oct 2015, 5:49 PM edit delete reply
I really, really hate Nox.

Would be nice if he could put his blade where the sun don't shine before he kicks the ol' bucket.
Lukkai 5th Oct 2015, 4:47 AM edit delete reply

Gotta say that intervention by Ceci and Dolly wouldn't exactly be Deus ex Machina, considering the two are racing Nox towards Lynn.

What I do wonder though is just how many parties are currently looking at that fight. Could be several after all.
Centcomm 4th Oct 2015, 11:15 PM edit delete reply

We shall see .. hes not dead yet! :D
mjkj 4th Oct 2015, 11:42 PM edit delete reply

emphasis on yet...
Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 1:15 AM edit delete reply

An expandable baton ?
... in his crouch pouch ? >_<
Lukkai 5th Oct 2015, 4:56 PM edit delete reply

It's standard issue!
anonymous coward 6th Oct 2015, 1:13 AM edit delete reply
Not very many people are capable of making effective use of an expandable baton--or an expandable baton--with a freshly pierced lung. Unless Democlus is wired with a suicide vest I really doubt he'll be able to do much while Nox is pinning him with sharp weapon impalement and her barbie doll-crotch.
anonymous coward 4th Oct 2015, 9:21 PM edit delete reply
Gotta say, the alt-text on this comic gets more gruesome and icky when you add, "That's what she said," to it.
Tokyo Rose 4th Oct 2015, 10:10 PM edit delete reply

- yikes.
Centcomm 4th Oct 2015, 11:16 PM edit delete reply

wow.. really? LOL!

anonymous coward 6th Oct 2015, 8:06 PM edit delete reply
....It's comparable at any rate.
Vivocateur 4th Oct 2015, 9:29 PM edit delete reply

I love the "Smile! All activity is monitored" sign in the background of this cheerful scene.
Centcomm 4th Oct 2015, 11:16 PM edit delete reply

Yep kinda a strange counter point! glad to see you TPO! :D
Vivocateur 5th Oct 2015, 12:12 AM edit delete reply

Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 1:19 AM edit delete reply

Huh ... why does the name Ten Penny Officer seem so familiar ?
*eyes TPO*
Who are you?
And do you have cookies? :)
Random 5th Oct 2015, 2:20 AM edit delete reply
Somehow I'd be surprised if it isn't a reference to Officer Tenpenny from GTA:SA, but also if it is.
Boren 5th Oct 2015, 6:39 AM edit delete reply
There was ten penny tower in Fallout 3...
Centcomm 5th Oct 2015, 7:18 AM edit delete reply

Ten Penny officer has his own comic called " Ten Penny army set in a alternate past. and hes a really wonderful artist in his own right. he did fan art for Luna Star
Lukkai 5th Oct 2015, 4:48 AM edit delete reply

Did you notice what's a bit above that sign? ;)
Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 8:52 AM edit delete reply

Considering where the camera feeds probably rin I picture Aeneas with a game pad swearing at his TV about hackers or aimbots
revzet 4th Oct 2015, 9:46 PM edit delete reply

Noooo D:. Aww, I was just starting to like him.
Centcomm 4th Oct 2015, 11:16 PM edit delete reply

dont count him totally out yet.
Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 1:20 AM edit delete reply

Besides, Nox is smiling, she might let him off alive.
Regen tanks will take care of the rest.
Kitty 5th Oct 2015, 5:51 PM edit delete reply
Actually I think if she's smiling, he's MORE likely to die rather than less.
T1-G3R2501 6th Oct 2015, 9:55 AM edit delete reply
Eh he ain't dead yet. We don't even see if it's a fatal hit or just a lung. He can grow that back.
(Uh Ti... normal people don't grow those back...)
Huh.... I thought that was a thing?... oh well he's dead
MirrorField 4th Oct 2015, 10:04 PM edit delete reply
Ah, some good OpSec for at least: You can't reveal what you don't know. No matter the torture, truth drugs or other similar measures...
Centcomm 4th Oct 2015, 11:17 PM edit delete reply

Yep.. thats why he walked away when Acantha was plugging in the codes.
anonymous coward 6th Oct 2015, 1:29 AM edit delete reply
The need to know concept does have a lot of issues though. We may be seeing two of those, 'the lag between identifying a need to know and communication' and 'counterproductive workarounds' in the near future if Dolly and Ceci arrive and tear through the gate chasing after the party.
Timotheus 4th Oct 2015, 10:15 PM edit delete reply

Hmmm. All activity is monitored. And the red light has been on. And this is part of Anaeis's bailiwick. And he may have seen who all got on the tram and who was left behind. So there is one other possibility for rescue, remote as it might be.
Centcomm 4th Oct 2015, 11:17 PM edit delete reply

true that.
mjkj 4th Oct 2015, 11:46 PM edit delete reply

Nice catch - I totally missed the little red light...
Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 1:21 AM edit delete reply

Too bad Aeneas cannot simply order the cassian to ignore the prince's order.
Timotheus 5th Oct 2015, 11:13 AM edit delete reply

Who says he can't? (Not that she'd obey him, but he COULD order her to.)
Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 3:57 PM edit delete reply

The Gospels says that the cassians are the bullies for the Livius family.

Unless he can remove their programming, and inhibitor.
But that would probably take a lot of time.
Timotheus 5th Oct 2015, 5:19 PM edit delete reply

But he could STILL order her to.
(Just like I could order you to roll over and play dead and probably with the same chance of success.)
Stormwind13 5th Oct 2015, 5:28 AM edit delete reply

Yes, but is anyone WATCHING it Tim? And if they are, can they do anything about the situation? Would they even want to?
anonymous coward 6th Oct 2015, 1:34 AM edit delete reply
We've had word of Cent in the recent past say that the cameras are Aeneas' toys. Even supposing he has full awareness it's questionable at best whether he could intervene, and it's questionable at best that he would understand the situation and want to try to address it without Acantha's presence and direction on the matter.
Centcomm 6th Oct 2015, 1:55 AM edit delete reply

He may or may not be watching.
anonymous coward 6th Oct 2015, 2:30 AM edit delete reply
It's plausible he may be watching because Acantha came this way recently, amongst other reasons. Everything past that gets more and more unclear and uncertain. Positively affecting the situation likely requires knowing what's going on, understanding of what's going on, having local or mobile resources able to affect what's going on, being willing to affect what's going on, and successfully managing to affect what's going on despite all known and unknown difficulties. Some of the known difficulties include the time-sensitivity of the problem, Aeneas having problems with focusing, and Nox's potential to counter what Aeneas may attempt.
Sheela 6th Oct 2015, 3:57 PM edit delete reply

Aeneas has been known to keep an eye on Acantha.
mjkj 4th Oct 2015, 11:40 PM edit delete reply

Oh, she enjoys torturing him... =S

I hope backup will arrive by wednesday - and someone who can help Demo...

Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 1:23 AM edit delete reply

She might be enjoying it, but at the same time, I also think she enjoyed their fight.

She might be entertained enough to want to fight him again.
All she has to do is leave him damaged, but alive, for a second round another day. :)
Centcomm 6th Oct 2015, 1:53 AM edit delete reply

God only knows what Nox finds fun. and im not sure anyone wants to find out. she probably likes torturing helpless things and making them dead afterwards.
CptKerion 6th Oct 2015, 9:37 AM edit delete reply
She may simply not have the emotional concept of fun, it may be a purely sarcistic idea for her.
Tokyo Rose 6th Oct 2015, 2:57 PM edit delete reply

Nox is a helpless thing, from her own perspective. Humans are the only creatures she would ever torture, and even then, she'd prefer to just kill them and be done with it. She finds battle to be exciting, but not much else.

(Nox does, however, have one hobby: she grows orchids.)
Sheela 6th Oct 2015, 3:59 PM edit delete reply

I dunno why, but I read "Orchids" as "Ostritch".

Imagining Nox raising ostritches, is pretty funny! :D
Tokyo Rose 6th Oct 2015, 4:15 PM edit delete reply

Well, there's a mental image that's not going away soon.
Haegan2005 6th Oct 2015, 7:23 PM edit delete reply

Now that was funny Sheela!
Sheela 7th Oct 2015, 4:11 AM edit delete reply

you just know that she would have one of those small two-wheeled carts dragged around by an ostritch. :D
Dragonrider 5th Oct 2015, 2:55 AM edit delete reply

Couple other possibilities we have not mentioned, Kyle might come through door guns blazing, Ada and TeDee who have not been heard of since they went off with TeDee's big cannon and Adas gun of stop the android without damage. Actually that would allow Nox and TeDee to ride off in the sunset to fight Murder Turds for fun and prophet.
Off topic a bit why des Dollys new cast pic show her with wings? Does she have some ability we don't know about or it it foreshadowing her demise?
Stormwind13 5th Oct 2015, 4:39 AM edit delete reply

Showing off her status as the Taylor's Guardian Angel, Dragonrider.
Lukkai 5th Oct 2015, 4:50 AM edit delete reply

For fun and prophet? Is that what those fishermen at Lake Genezareth did?
Tokyo Rose 5th Oct 2015, 2:58 PM edit delete reply

Urgh, curse you for drawing my attention to the cast page. Gotta drink a bit to forget it again.
Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 3:58 PM edit delete reply

You need an excuse to drink ?
Tokyo Rose 5th Oct 2015, 5:34 PM edit delete reply

More like an opportunity, especially since a friend introduced me to Rumchata.
anonymous coward 6th Oct 2015, 1:36 AM edit delete reply
Well, here's another excuse then: Why was everything rendered on the cast and tech pages in graphics instead of text we can use ctrl-F on?
Centcomm 6th Oct 2015, 1:51 AM edit delete reply

because I wanted to use a specific font for them and using system fonts means that they might or might show up as intended. So I made sure they would show up correctly by making them images.
anonymous coward 6th Oct 2015, 2:09 AM edit delete reply
It's true, there can be standards/rendering issues for different browsers. It's always a good idea to consider the question, "How painful would this be to load on a 57.6k modem connection?" when doing web design though, because a surprising number of people are stuck at such speeds to this day. This is one of the primary reason why text is not rendered in graphics on the internet very often, and two others are SEO and screen-reader technology for the disabled.
Sheela 6th Oct 2015, 4:01 PM edit delete reply

To be fair, the people who have very slow connections, probably don't read a lot of webcomics.
Johninaustin 5th Oct 2015, 5:23 AM edit delete reply
Of course, the girls could still be on the other side of that door and Acantha still has her pistol.
Stever 5th Oct 2015, 5:30 AM edit delete reply

Hehehe, love that "smile" poster behind her in panel 2 XD
KarToon12 5th Oct 2015, 8:21 AM edit delete reply

I just now noticed that. XD
Centcomm 6th Oct 2015, 1:52 AM edit delete reply

:D glad you liked that!
chk 5th Oct 2015, 9:35 AM edit delete reply

I don't think Democlus needs to see anyone from the New Troy contingent.

I still contend that they (especially Dolly) will kill anyone or anything between themselves and Lynn. I don't imagine they are even aware of Acantha's friendship.

And, let's not forget, Democlus is wearing Praetorian armor.
Stormwind13 5th Oct 2015, 10:05 AM edit delete reply

Actually chk, Dolly DOES know about Acantha. Check back to Letter Home, 11 December 2012. Lynn tells them of Nova Roma's troubles and that Acantha is her friend. :-)
chk 5th Oct 2015, 10:35 AM edit delete reply

Oh yeah. I knew that.

Truth be told, I forgot that. That is probably a very good thing.
Dragonrider 5th Oct 2015, 12:01 PM edit delete reply

Still questionable if Dolly would care, unless Lynn told her to stand down.
Stormwind13 5th Oct 2015, 1:28 PM edit delete reply

I think Dolly DEFINES caring, Dragonrider. Unless someone is actively hindering her path or actively shooting at her, I can't see her doing much to her.

And since Dolly knows that Lynn has made a friend, I think she (like a lot of Momma Bears) would move heaven and earth to protect them too. That seems to be what Dolly does, after all. Protect those that need it, from ANY enemy.
Centcomm 6th Oct 2015, 1:57 AM edit delete reply

There is almost no way Dolly would shoot Acantha unless she was shooting first .. and even then she might try to figure out who she was first. Acantha is a teenager. and Dolly would find it very hard to pull the trigger on her.
chk 5th Oct 2015, 2:04 PM edit delete reply

I concur with Stormwind (now that she reminded me that Dolly is aware of Acantha's friendship).
If Lynn has one friend, it stands to reason she probably has more. She also knows Kyle, wherever he is.
I suspect that anyone in Lynn's presence, and not threatening her, will be OK.

I am dubious of Dolly putting a lot of time into protecting others, even though it be in her nature. I believe her mission isn't as much to protect Lynn, as it is to get her the hell back to New Troy without delay. She might invite the others to come along, but I think she won't stay in Nova Roma one second longer than she has to.

No doubt Cent-Com and Rose will throw us for a loop, but that's how I see it.
Sheela 5th Oct 2015, 4:00 PM edit delete reply

Agreed, Dolly is ready to leave .. yesterday!

And Lynn will come with her.
Acantha can come too, as long as she doesn't slow her down.
Haegan2005 7th Oct 2015, 4:25 AM edit delete reply

I have a feeling that Lynn may not give Dolly a choice in the matter.
DLKmusic 5th Oct 2015, 5:59 PM edit delete reply

As grim and gruesome as this page is, it does set the stage for Democlus meeting Dolly and Ceci in a manner where he won't automatically be considered an enemy.

IF Dem can survive, and IF Dolly and Ceci show up in time, it ties a pretty ribbon around the idea the the good guys will live on.

C'Mon, girls, have a heart!

You Killed Malati
and made us cry
please spare Democlus
as a favor to us?

(small poem not copyrighted because the author is pathetic)
chk 5th Oct 2015, 6:40 PM edit delete reply

If Dolly and Ceci came in right now, mid-maim, they might see a number of situations.

They could see it as a palace feud, that they may be able to mediate.

They could see one guy holding the door against another and determine that the defender is protecting Lynn's escape and help him.

They could see the other as trying to expedite Lynn's escape and help her.

They could (most likely) not give a rat's ass and see them both as another obstacle to be removed.
anonymous coward 6th Oct 2015, 1:57 AM edit delete reply
Dolly is not in the mood to engage diplomacy unless you get sarcastic and reference Clausewitz, "War is the continuation of politics by other means," to declare shooting things as diplomacy. She has two simple, clear objectives: First obtain Lynn Taylor, then exit the area with Lynn Taylor. Neither of those things will be made simpler by involving herself in Nova Roma politics. Because of that she will likely seek to avoid discussion and involvement unless it seems unavoidable or otherwise clearly helpful.
The real question is whether she would consider stabilizing a dying Democlus as necessary.
chk 6th Oct 2015, 9:03 AM edit delete reply

Um, duh. I was sort of being facetious about the diplomacy angle.
Centcomm 6th Oct 2015, 1:59 AM edit delete reply

I'm starting to get a certain vibe, Centcomm, that Democlus isn't dead yet.

It might be my imagination, but I do get that impression.
