Uh, time for Bishop to get a "reboot"?
Or not.
Rest in pieces, bro.
ProfEtheric 26th Nov 2015, 9:24 PM edit delete reply

Is Bishop down? I see Merek bite it here (not happy), but I'm looking for Bish...

(Now if only you and I could get the cross-banter that goes on here for our comics...)
lirvilas 26th Nov 2015, 9:27 PM edit delete reply

Whatcho talkin' bout Willis? My Canadians/Euros argue with each other pretty frequently.

Also, you're right, it's Merek eating it. But that's OK, I hate that guy.

(Looks around nervously to make sure Serps isn't lurking.)
HeSerpenty 27th Nov 2015, 1:07 PM edit delete reply

Hahaha lirvilas you KNOW I'm lurking! You devil x'D. THATS OKAY I KNOW THE TRUTH!

Also omg NOOOOOOOOOO MEREK BABY NOW WHO'S GONNA get your idiot nephew out of trouble?!?!

No but seriously this is a great action sequence centy!!
lirvilas 27th Nov 2015, 1:09 PM edit delete reply

I guess Merek's not the only one getting shot today. :)
Centcomm 28th Nov 2015, 5:05 PM edit delete reply

All i can say is it was painless?

And thank you - its a huge bit of work to get it to look like this >_<
Rms2000 27th Nov 2015, 5:35 AM edit delete reply

Actually... It's hard to tell, because of the glare, but If I had to say where on his body that shot hit, I'd have to say it was his under-arm. Which doesn't typically lend itself to kill-shots. So, yeah: he's down. But I'm not sure you should be RIPing him just yet. If this were a cruddy action movie, everything would quiet down and somebody would kneel over him to hear his last words, and then scream "NOOOOOOO!". I hope that doesn't happen, though: that'd make for a really boring page.
Centcomm 28th Nov 2015, 5:04 PM edit delete reply

Bishop is actually totally hidden by Ada in that one shot.
Dragonrider 26th Nov 2015, 9:21 PM edit delete reply

Cassion 99 Team TeeDee 0 looks like it's gonna have to be TeeDee Solo for the win.
xpacetrue 26th Nov 2015, 9:42 PM edit delete reply

Yes, I realize that these are military-grade weapons. But what good is "armor" if it can't even stop or slow down a single bullet or beam? Obviously, multiple hits would take anyone down. But their armor can't even save someone's life from -one- hit?

If it can't, you might as well be wearing a skintight suit or loose clothing as that, at least, would be much, much lighter and allow much greater freedom of movement (than the bulky-looking armor all of them are wearing).

Or was the hit so clean because the Cassian is using a chaingun, whereas the armor was designed to protect against lasers, beam weapons, or small caliber arms (as if the military or rebels would use small caliber)?

Even if shields can't protect against all shots or weaponry - I think both the rebels and the military are silly for not using them. So far, it seems -much- more effective than armor. But then, New Troy does have access to much better tech...
Visvires 26th Nov 2015, 11:54 PM edit delete reply
Look at the size of what she's carrying. That thing should be mounted on a tank or APC. The armor might be of better use against standard infantry weapons, but we already know they passed on the good stuff - no shields. Also, he was hit by several consecutive rounds.
xpacetrue 27th Nov 2015, 1:07 AM edit delete reply

Several rounds? From what I see in panel 3, it looks like he got hit by one beam to the chest and one beam to his left arm. It wasn't just a hit, though. It looks like the beam punched clean through his armor, making a big eruption of blood.

(BTW: That they look like beams seems very strange, considering that they came from a chain-gun that is rapidly spitting out bullet cartridges.)

Regardless, Merek getting a nasty hit is not -all- that I'm talking about. We've been seeing the blues and reds falling left and right. Just ONE HIT and they're down for the count. To me, that's saying that the weapons wielded by BOTH SIDES completely out-scales the effectiveness of the armor worn by BOTH SIDES.

I'm saying that, from what I'm seeing, both sides might be better off not wearing any armor at all. Casualties would probably be about the same, or perhaps even less if the additional mobility would allow them to dodge, flee, or tumble for cover!

Does this mean that the powered-armor of the 34'th century is... good for looking really cool and being bulky, rather than actual defense? Does it at least protect against melee weapons or help carry heavier loads? :( Disappointing. They should now better. Their armor tech really, really needs to keep pace with their weapon tech...

In contrast, the kevlar and the armor plates worn by modern soldiers and SWAT today is used -because- it is effective. Granted, it does not actually make anyone impervious or bulletproof per se. But it helps. It blocks some shots and impedes bullets - often saving them from what would otherwise be lethal shots.
Tokyo Rose 27th Nov 2015, 5:27 AM edit delete reply

Multiple shots are required to soften up and take down these armored opponents. We're not showing it that way because we're trying to maintain a fast, dynamic, cinematic feel to the visual flow, instead of having 50 pages of boring-as-shit filler tallying up every shot that a target takes before he drops.
Centcomm 28th Nov 2015, 5:10 PM edit delete reply

Weapons tend to be in two category in DC horribly effective and dangerous or just dangerous. Everyone here is using heavy weapons effectively TD and Ada are wearing heavy armor plus shields - the Rebels however are wearing ballistic plastics and energy dispersal plastics - sadly the roma guys are throwing tank rounds down range. its way above the rating on the armor the rebels have. the romans are all wearing medium armor so far the only heavy armor seen has been Maxus's suit of gladiatorial armor.

Roma Favors man power over individual protection.
Troy generally operates under the , everyone is a army tank principal.
Dragonrider 28th Nov 2015, 10:55 PM edit delete reply

AH!! Looks like the old Army and Marine slogans of;For Army "Every Man An Infantryman...HOOAH...SIR!!!" For Jarheads "Every Man A Rifleman...OORAH...SIR!!!"
Have changed for some, "Everyone a Tank" can't see that makes the "Groundpounder" any safer as the enemy just throws bigger and more explosive munitions at them. Oh Well as my old DI taught us to say before entering a combat zone, "Lord, for what we are about to receive . May we be truly thankful."
xpacetrue 26th Nov 2015, 10:07 PM edit delete reply

BTW: We've seen at least one guy in red hit with lethal ordinance and a few of the guys in blue hit with Ada's stunner - despite Bishop's protest against that. I'm sure I'm not the only reader who was hoping to see more of the opposite...
The Old Scribe 27th Nov 2015, 12:21 AM edit delete reply

There's no telling what sort of ammo is in and of what caliber that minigun is either.

Miniguns now are usually 7.62x51mm caliber, but the future ones may have been upgraded.

That weapon could be firing any combo of rounds consisting of ball (or solid slug), armor piercing, explosive, depleted uranium tipped, fragmentation or tracers. I don't care how tough your armor is, you get hit with a burst of those rounds, you're going down.

What's interesting is the fact that in the distant future, slug throwing weapons are still being used alongside all those laser guns and particle beam weapons.
Timotheus 27th Nov 2015, 3:10 AM edit delete reply

Not at surprising. As body defense systems become more complex, the means of attacking them must also become more varied. Hence why blades, rays, lasers, guns and bow projectiles might all be considered valid assault weapons now. A high velocity mass will still cause impact damage even if it doesn't penetrate while a beam weapon might not.
CptKerion 27th Nov 2015, 11:47 PM edit delete reply
I do a lot of reading on the subject of ballistics and its progression.
As a general rule, everything energy weapon is more easily foiled. Especially in an atmosphere. A nonmagnetic solid slug on the other hand is only countered by the strength and shape of the material it is hitting and the angle it is hitting at. Active wave cancel shields don't work, magnetic shields don't work, only kinetic barriers work and you can chew those up really fast.
Tango Xray Actual 27th Nov 2015, 1:02 AM edit delete reply
Pretty big brass with significant neck-down ejecting from that gatling - could be anything and as 'The Old Scribe" pointed out the bullet does make a difference; AP, tungsten or DU gonna seriously mess yer dance card, armor or not. Might even be saboted penetrators.
Note the disintegrating links ejected from the bottom of the action in both images.
HiFranc 27th Nov 2015, 1:18 AM edit delete reply

From TeeDee's comment, I take it the lethal weapons have a higher rate of fire?
xpacetrue 27th Nov 2015, 1:34 AM edit delete reply

That, or perhaps better range and accuracy? I'm guessing that stunner has a rather short effective range and not nearly as accurate as a laser. It's probably more like a lightning shotgun.
Fairportfan 27th Nov 2015, 2:39 AM edit delete reply

They hit harder.

Their armor may or may not stop what Teedee is shooting, but it likely can stop - or at least mitigate - what Ada is firing.

You shoot back with the equivalent of what they fired at you, in my book.

And when Charlie dances the Foxtrot, you shoot back first with the equivalent of what they're carrying.
Tokyo Rose 27th Nov 2015, 5:31 AM edit delete reply

Fairportfan has the right idea. The Roman armor is better able to soak the "stun" setting of Ada's weapon. She can stagger them, she can numb them, she can keep them from shooting back, but she's just not able to take them entirely out of the fight with the nonlethal option.
cattservant 27th Nov 2015, 3:24 AM edit delete reply

Time to get practical it seems.
Stormwind13 27th Nov 2015, 7:37 AM edit delete reply

Ada doesn't like all or nothing solutions, catt. She might not have any choice in the matter though. Outnumbered and outgunned is NOT a good position to be in.
highlander55 27th Nov 2015, 7:07 AM edit delete reply

Unfortunately, Adas' Non-lethal is likely to cause DMK of all there if she doesn't step it up.
Centcomm 28th Nov 2015, 5:24 PM edit delete reply

thats very true.
mjkj 27th Nov 2015, 12:06 PM edit delete reply

Oh, outch...

Well, it will be high time for Maxus to show up and end the blueshells and the fighting...

DLKmusic 27th Nov 2015, 6:27 PM edit delete reply

As much as I want to take ADA's side in this, TeeDee is right: if you can't put them down non-lethally, you still need to put them down, and target #1 needs to be Samanta.
Haegan2005 28th Nov 2015, 10:02 AM edit delete reply

good feeling of getting desperate on the page ladies!
