Ben's surgery went well, and he's home recovering now. The mass removed from his leg will be analyzed, and results should be back in 5-7 days. Our thanks to everyone who's donated towards our boy's medical care, and to everyone who's given us their thoughts and good wishes.

Samanta's inner thoughts:

"Whoever you attackers are and as much as my duty is to eradicate you all: Thank you!"
DLKmusic 1st Dec 2015, 9:14 PM edit delete reply

Silly me, and I was expecting something to go BOOM...

That's just NASTY

Yeah DLK. Ick.

The name reminded me of the Spring Razor from Dishonored. That one was set to "chop", however; this appears to be set to "puree." Such delightful carnage.

I do feel sorry for the clean up crew. No one should have to pick up that many pieces of blueshell. Maybe he can be vacuumed up? Swept up in a dustpan? Mopped?

Nice D-Wrek. I've got the feeling that you might need that again. TeeDee is just getting started after all.
Centcomm 3rd Dec 2015, 1:41 PM edit delete reply

hehe yeah its kinda like that.
HiFranc 1st Dec 2015, 9:19 PM edit delete reply

So Doctor Silver was not that successful at locking everyone out of the systems.

{edit} Given that Samanta is still alive, does that mean that Doc Silver is about to be locked out of a key system?
Visvires 1st Dec 2015, 11:44 PM edit delete reply
Or a small part of one, or Samanta is overconfident and about to treated to a heavy dose of nyan cat.

I would kind of like to see TeeDee take out some turrets though. That BFG is overdue.
Tokyo Rose 2nd Dec 2015, 5:07 AM edit delete reply

Dr. Silver's disruption of the palace's internal network has left some of the subsystems in a "standby" condition. Samanta is close enough to the turrets in this section that she can try to take direct control of them.
Lukkai 2nd Dec 2015, 11:15 PM edit delete reply

"I am assuming direct control."
ProfEtheric 1st Dec 2015, 9:19 PM edit delete reply

Teedee's stock, IMHO: RISING!

Hells to the yes! Go Teedee gogogogogogogo!
DLKmusic 1st Dec 2015, 9:29 PM edit delete reply

I dunno, Prof... I'm not sure if I like her more, or if I'm deathly afraid of her more...
ProfEtheric 1st Dec 2015, 9:31 PM edit delete reply

(These are not mutually exclusive in my book. Of course, my book may have slightly warped covers and spine...)
sigpig 2nd Dec 2015, 8:00 AM edit delete reply

DLK - the answer, of course, is "yes"... lol
Centcomm 3rd Dec 2015, 1:41 PM edit delete reply

Teedee is going for shock and awe :D
Lukkai 1st Dec 2015, 9:30 PM edit delete reply

And if they clean out resistence here and get a moment of respite, I somehow imagine Teedee solemnly taking up Bishop's gun. And keeping it as a memento.
KittyHodge 2nd Dec 2015, 8:45 PM edit delete reply
After they're done cleaning out the bad guys:

Teedee (puffing on cigarette): So was it good for you?

Ada (rolls eyes so hard they spin completely around)
Dragonrider 1st Dec 2015, 9:48 PM edit delete reply

First Hey Boss Lady how was the visit to Doc Pullem DDS?
Idea, why not just turn TeeDee loose and tell her she can kill every BueBoi she see's and every Cassion, have Ada following her as a mobile ammo resupply. This would be over in no time. She would be sitting on the throne at the Black Palace with Douchbag on a leash at her feet, while he's begging for Lynn, Acantha or Max to rescue him before he's turned over to Calliope Taylor for use as the person to clean the Nova Roma Zoos Murder Turd Habitat.

Stormwind13 2nd Dec 2015, 6:31 AM edit delete reply

Not my favorite color scheme, Iirvlas. Red is too strong to put everywhere, in my opinion.
DLKmusic 2nd Dec 2015, 6:46 PM edit delete reply

I like the color, Stormwind, but the splatter pattern? to abstract for my tastes, I much prefer solids...
Wolfsbane 3rd Dec 2015, 12:35 AM edit delete reply

Maybe it relates to how the grenade works. I'm still pretty unclear on what a nano-wire grenade does when it goes boom.
Centcomm 3rd Dec 2015, 11:24 AM edit delete reply

A small charge breaks the cnontainer and the magnetic containment a short lived chain of nano molecular wire is thrown in all directions in loops actually they only hold together for a few nano seconds but thats enough to cut even heavy hard armor up pretty badly. if your in anything less than powered armor its hello red paste.
Mark_L_A 4th Dec 2015, 12:41 AM edit delete reply

IOW a Monomolecular whip that once it's containment is breached wraps around anything in it's range then constricts, cutting through anything except heavy armor, and even it will be damaged.
Oldarmourer 8th Jun 2019, 6:35 AM edit delete reply
speaking from the future and not having read the comments on this page before, I'd surmise from Cent's description that these grenades are filled with loops of highly stressed nanometer diameter wires of a very, very strong material that are launched from their container at high speed from the explosive burst and the magnetic field with an imparted rotational torque, andthat the loops expand as they travel while spinning rapidly, sort of like "so sharp that a razor looks like a 2x4 in comparison" buzzsaws. Low mass but high energy/area wheels of destruction, much like a greatly improved version of the 'continuous rod' warheads used on many Air-Air missiles, that would slice through pretty much anything in their path until the target absorbed all of that energy and stopped the wires. Given the initial energy imparted to them by their low mass and the force involved (RDX detonates at 29,000 METRES per second, then add the magnetic field), that would be what we in the weapons field professionally refer to as "a shit-ton of fuck-you".
The Old Scribe 1st Dec 2015, 10:15 PM edit delete reply

Woo! That's nasty! Looks like the Boss Blackshell's cold cuts. That makes Bouncing Betty mines, Flechettes, Napalm, Willie Peter, Grenades and Punji stakes look like Play-Doh. That is one sweet close quarters weapon.

Slices, dices and purees....

Itsy, bitsy pieces parts even!
Mark_L_A 1st Dec 2015, 10:20 PM edit delete reply

I'm just wondering what Nanowire Poppers would do to a Cassian. Would it just degrade but not destroy them? Just tearing up their outer covering and possibly eyes, but leaving the remainder still functional?

The humans however, it's hit "Puree" time.
sigpig 2nd Dec 2015, 8:19 AM edit delete reply

I think that the nano-wire would, at the very least, incapacitate a Cassian a la the way Maxus did with Hrist. Methinks nano-wire grenades are either tightly-wound springs of a metal alloy, or mono-molecular carbon nanotubes that are so thin that they are virtually two-dimensional.

This reminds me of a book by Robert J. Sawyer titled Illegal Alien; as SPOILERS! a character is killed by running through an invisible barrier of mono-molecular wire...
CptKerion 2nd Dec 2015, 4:41 PM edit delete reply
they wouldn't do jack to hard armor I don't think. They lack the kinetic energy. I suspect our Cassian here has hard sections of exoskeleton and may have a full body carbon-fiber weave which should put a stop to that.
Lukkai 2nd Dec 2015, 11:17 PM edit delete reply

All it needs is to find one tiny gap though.
Centcomm 3rd Dec 2015, 11:24 AM edit delete reply

actually they will damage hard armor - it all depends on the material and the thickness of it.
Sleel 1st Dec 2015, 10:44 PM edit delete reply

Sitting here hoping for a frame of him standing there, post slice, and then all sliding apart. Like in Resident Evil in the laser hallway...... And doesn't she sound just all destroyed by his discomforting.

She's obviously heartbroken over the loss, Steel... Give her time to mourn.

Ok, Time's Up!
HiFranc 1st Dec 2015, 11:00 PM edit delete reply

It wasn't until I re-read it several times that I realised that Samanta speaks in the last frame.
Tokyo Rose 2nd Dec 2015, 5:04 AM edit delete reply

She got out of the way. Really, it's starting to become a running gag now that whenever something really nasty happens to the bluebs, a Cassian gets out of the way just in time and watches with barely concealed glee...
Cperka 2nd Dec 2015, 10:41 AM edit delete reply

Well, since Cassians probably witnessed thousands of acts of cruelty and idiocy from them, I think they're in the right to glee...
CptKerion 2nd Dec 2015, 4:42 PM edit delete reply
I best any surviving reds are going "thank god the blueb is dead"
DLKmusic 2nd Dec 2015, 6:29 PM edit delete reply

The art in Data Chasers is so great, but I have to admit, your dialogue is actually becoming my favorite part of this comic!
Stormwind13 2nd Dec 2015, 10:02 AM edit delete reply

The art is top notch and the dialogue really helps carry things along.

CentComm, Rose take a bow for all your hard work! You two consistently deliver a great, entertaining comic. I for one Thank You for that. :-)
DLKmusic 2nd Dec 2015, 3:33 PM edit delete reply

I have said it over and over again. Cent-Comm's Artwork is the bar that has been set on the web, and I only know of one other 3D comic that is in the same ballpark (I won't mention any names but it's initials are Whiteout).

Add to that a story and dialog that has the depth of Kurt Vonnegut and the pace of Steven King, I would say more, but I'm sure the girls are tired of listening to how much in awe I am of their work.
Tokyo Rose 2nd Dec 2015, 4:03 PM edit delete reply

Rose does do a fantastic job on the dialogue.
DLKmusic 3rd Dec 2015, 6:20 PM edit delete reply

Yes she does, Cent... but don't underplay the artwork here! It started at the top of the heap, and keeps getting better and better.

For example, I refer you to D-Wrek's comment on the final frame here. That pretty much sums up most of our reactions!
