It is with Profound regret that I mention that David Bowie passed away - Say a small prayer for him and his family.
David Bowie was an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, arranger, painter, and actor. Bowie was a figure in popular music for over four decades, and was known as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s.
Died: January 10, 2016
Spouse: Iman (m. 1992), Angela Bowie (m. 1970–1980)
Movies: Labyrinth, The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Prestige, More
I'm very sorry, that variant of CeCi is not in control of her body right now.

The points I keep recalling are how that Ceci was originally intended to be a free range extension of CentCom's "Dolls". The key phrase being when CentCom explains how she had to "cheat" to get all the programming and hardware she felt were needed into her. This obviously means there are multiple OS's at work here, not all of which are aware of each other. Hence her personality's ability to find a way to spark and the fact it seems that at times she's being run by a committee with a lurker in the shadows.
I don't know whether we can count Setorius and Maxus. But both certainly aren't the embodiment of normal either.
Neither is Irene, all things considered. Even if certainly more so than the aforementioned.
I think Julia is about the most normal one.
...so I just snuck in a decoy to give Sheela something to play with.
Also the sight of our resident puppy running circles in the garden with a low-wield nuclear weapon tends to keep burglars away.
I don't know why, but it works.
Lynn is going to KILL Kyle for putting her through watching him 'die'! Then Acantha is going to atomize whatever is left for doing that to her sister! Kyle is SO doomed. Just like the (EVIL) CentComm wants. :-D
I'd have made that last balloon "and I have even *weirder* friends." LOL Great page! I love the look on Acantha's face... has that ol' 'what am I doing here' smidgen of panicky "I really not so sure I wanna be here Mommy" face ;)
Also what's with the 'pretty (technicolor) sparklies' over CeCi's head?
Just guessing, but I'd imagine it's either welding or cutting torch activity. I've seen similar patterns of glowing drops of hot metal and sparks raining down from both. If it's either of those things stay well back and avoid the area, there could be fumes and particulates involved that maybe carcinogenic and/or poisonous.
I plead the fifth on whether or not I am the same anonymous coward. :)
Either way, let's see how long this lasts before the next spammer/griefer wave shows up. Data Chasers is popular enough now to be a magnet for them, just guessing by seeing that impressive #9 ranking graphic from TWC.
*facepalm* That costs too much unless you have a spare million dollars you feel life donating. That should cover the difference in business insurance premiums for at least one year.
Acantha is remarkably SANE considering her life, CentComm!!! Her parents were (most likely) MURDERED by Douchimus. The same person that did his DAMNDEDEST to isolate her. And now she has a civil war going on. If Douchimus dies, then so to do millions of others. Then she gets to her 'safe' haven and find it 'invaded' by unknown forces. Acantha is an EXTRAORDINARY young woman to not be a gibbering idiot in the corner!
I just finished re-reading DC from the beginning - I am stunned to realize we are coming up on the ninth anniversary of this comic. Your dedication is nothing short of phenomenal, Cent. Keep up the GREAT work. Following the adventures of Lynn, Dolly and the rest of the gang has been very enjoyable and I'm always looking forward to the next page.
Maybe Aeneas has the means to over or under pressure areas in his domain? Which could be useful to render someone unconscious or to hurt them badly by giving them a a case of the bends.
@Cent I started to think you may be missing a pronoun in the last sentence of Acantha's big bubble on the lat panel. But now I'm not so sure. I just noticed that I inserted a bias where there was none. Perhaps as uttered by blue, 'it' would work, but I think I saw some push to use 'they' for singular or plural of unspecified gender.
That's dialogue, and it gets far more idiomatic than that. Spoken English is very much context-specific and culturally-variant instead of tending to follow any formal, generalized, standards of grammar and style. Spoken English frequently has missing articles, pronouns, and even absent verbs and nouns in sentences that are fully comprehensible and acceptable to the speakers and listeners.
I could give examples and explain further, but you haven't paid my ESL consulting fee yet. My rates are very reasonable, and can start with retainers as low as $5000 USD for small topics and short engagements. If you (rightfully) balk at paying such amounts of money to someone you don't know I could instead point you at 4chan and Reddit as cultural sources for very interesting English usage. ;)
I don't think it's missing, but I'm pretty sure they were talking about this bit of the text. The hypothetically-missing "it" is included in brackets in the appropriate place below:
"Once I was super bored, so Aeneas had me stack up a bunch of empty barrels and crates under one and (it) crushed 'em flat."
Ahhh, yes, I see. No, there's no missing pronoun. As I ran the sentence through in my head (well, out loud, but we don't discuss how often I talk to myself), I was thinking of the door as being the tool Aeneas used, not as the door being its own entity. I can see how there might be a bit of confusion present. Chalk that up to me writing the line in the "voice" of Acantha, a teenager who's not always precise in her use of language. :)
Normal spoken use of the language is often much harder to decode than that, and relies upon contextual details and details supplied elsewhere in the conversation to be comprehensible. Consider the following dialogue at an ice cream stand, where one person walks up and orders a single, orange popsicle. Note how less than half the sentences have full subject and predicate completion, and rely upon the setting and the rest of the conversation to fill in the missing details:
"Hello."
"Yeah, hi. Orange one."
"Creamsicle or plain?"
"Plain please."
"One twenty-five."
"Here's five. No change."
"Thank you."
P.S. I'm not criticizing your writing here, or trying to teach you how to suck eggs. I'm sure you already know this, but I thought I should speak up in favour of natural sounding dialogue. :)
Cent does indeed put SERIOUS time into set-building, to the point where we've had to go on hiatus at least once just for that. It's nice to see that people appreciate the effort :)
Please direct any grievances and complaints that you may have, to the Watchdog module, and it shall ignore you in a perfectly frustrating way.
After that, watch your back.

Some foreshadowing on someone's squishy demise, perhaps?
goes the Big Bad!
Nice shots, Cent
*lol* I like the weird friends comment *hugs Acantha*
as of 11:20 pst, not only is DC sitting solidly at 9, but we are gaining ground on the 8 spot.
( I know I don't write, draw, or render for this comic, or participate in any meaningful way in it's creation or direction, but it's STILL a WE!!!!)
I HELPED !!!!!!!1! :D
Damn, you just made Dusty Empress of the Known Universe!!! =O
:D
