I told you it was TR sending info to Ceci. Now, how quick is Dolly, going to pick up on Ceci being Roses agent Not CentComs?
Centcomm 24th Jan 2016, 9:33 PM edit delete reply

Augh cant.. say .. anything.. >_<
Dragonrider 24th Jan 2016, 9:44 PM edit delete reply

Prediction, Ceci is final defense if this rework of Aeneas goes bad.
ProfEtheric 24th Jan 2016, 9:48 PM edit delete reply

I like the cut of your jib! I want to see if you are right!
DLKmusic 24th Jan 2016, 9:51 PM edit delete reply

That's actually a really good guess, Dragonrider. I didn't even think of it, but it makes a lot of sense!
Dragonrider 24th Jan 2016, 10:02 PM edit delete reply

Even more sense if it works she becomes Guardian to Acantha replacing Kali and all Cassions. (Of course Dolly will always be "Mommy" and Lynn will become "Sis" while "Watchdog" becomes "Lapdog".)
Timotheus 24th Jan 2016, 10:47 PM edit delete reply

AS much as I appreciate Tokyo Rose's abilities I don't think she is capable of subverting one of Centcom's dolls right under Centcom's programming. I believe the Aeneas portion of Ceci's mission is more a case of great AIS minds running in the same gutter and we'll just have to hope they don't conflict with each other.
Dragonrider 24th Jan 2016, 11:54 PM edit delete reply

Have a feeling you are whistling in the dark as you walk past the cemetery. TR has spies and agents in every part of CentComms system, subverting Ceci during construction would be far easier than setting up her spy ring in Nova Roma.
DLKmusic 25th Jan 2016, 12:04 AM edit delete reply

Timotheus does have a point, Dragonrider. I do find it easier to believe that CeCi was was tweaked by TR with Cent-Comm's full knowledge and permission than being done behind her back.

Of course, the amount of blackmailing... ahem... such a dirty word... let's say forceful persuasion... that TR might have had to do to get that permission might be a different story.

And no, I don't think it was part of TR's plan for CeCi to spark either...
Timotheus 25th Jan 2016, 3:32 AM edit delete reply

I believe that I can quite confidently opine that Ceci's sparking was not planned by anyone but was the direct result of Centcom's jackleg programming/engineering efforts to fit five pigs into a cart built for four and to then try and squeeze in a duck. In her own way, Ceci is as unique a prototype android as Dolly is right now.
anonymous coward 25th Jan 2016, 4:55 AM edit delete reply
It would make sense to me if the AIs of this world were a community instead of opposed to each other. Why wouldn't bringing Aeneas back together be a group project?
Dragonrider 25th Jan 2016, 12:28 PM edit delete reply

One big reason Douchebaggus Giganticus no one wanted to risk the Doomsday option. Also in case you didn't notice no one trusts anyone else.
Lee 25th Jan 2016, 1:33 PM edit delete reply
I always figured Ceci's "quirks" were the result of being a rush job (and the sparking being a result of that and the distance between her and CentComm), but I can see Ceci's personality being partly the result of being subverted by Rose. Since it WAS a rush job, it's not unbelievable she got it past CentComm.

She does have a twisted sense of humor.
Dragonrider 25th Jan 2016, 3:48 PM edit delete reply

@DLKmusic and Timotheus consider that the AIS just admitted TR set up this whole scenario to fix Aeneas. As soon as Dolly realizes that included Lynn's kidnapping to recruit Kyle and involve New Troy in a military action to recover Lynn she is going to feel much less safe than she does now.
Timotheus 25th Jan 2016, 4:28 PM edit delete reply

If Tokyo Rose had the freedom and connections within Nova Roma to influence his lowness to initiate this kidnapping plot to get Kyle involved, she wouldn't have needed to bring in Lynn, Kyle, New Troy, Dolly, or anyone else. She could have just gone in and fixed Aeneas whenever she wanted. The repair job has been a long time in the planning, but this has been a seize the opportunity situation for its implementation.
That one guy 25th Jan 2016, 4:31 PM edit delete reply
@Dragonrider - I'd say it's just barely possible that story TR might've infiltrated New Troy well enough to get some foreign code into Ceci somewhere along the line, maybe even replacing a chip or two. We know she has some contact with Calliope and story CentComm isn't the wiser, so it's not impossible for some small infiltration. Considering the degree of scanning CentComm did to verify how Ceci would look under sensors, slipping in something that could be picked up on sensors seems very unlikely. So TR's influence might've tweaked initial programming rather than CentComm being rushed (and her personality does kinda' fit a joke on Dolly that TR would enjoy) and possible that TR's pulling Ceci's strings. I wouldn't place it as my first bet, but it wouldn't be surprising.

I think you're going a bit far afield with Shinedo being behind Lynn's kidnapping though. What's admitted is many years of gathering data, then she just mentions "events are unfolding that will allow us to do what we have been working towards." Dealing with someone who has a tentative grip on sanity and a serious paranoid bent to it, like Decimus, opportunism is much easier than manipulation, unless you're going hardcore enough on the manipulation that they could've just made him disarm the failsafes and take a swan dive from the top of the Black Palace and then send an overt envoy to Acantha to help fix Aeneas. Also I don't think TR would've deliberately put Lynn in the potential danger she's in without a large enough degree of control of New Rome that would've made Lynn unnecessary for the plan, especially if you calculate in the potential risks due to backlash from CentComm & Calliope, not to mention what'd happen if Decimus realized that he already has the key he needs (as CentComm told Dolly).
Vivocateur 24th Jan 2016, 9:46 PM edit delete reply

Hhmm…
[insert mad theorizing]
Sheela 25th Jan 2016, 2:20 PM edit delete reply

Nooo .. you have to actually *do* the theorizing, otherwise it won't count!
Haegan2005 25th Jan 2016, 7:52 PM edit delete reply

You tell him Sheela!
Sheela 26th Jan 2016, 9:03 AM edit delete reply

*tells on Ten Penny*

... Rooooose, Ten Penny is being mean! *puppyeyes*
DLKmusic 24th Jan 2016, 9:49 PM edit delete reply

I believe everything Kagami has to say right now, for she is wise.

Of course, if she told me the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, as beautiful as she is, I might still buy it!

Once again, Awesome page!
Tokyo Rose 24th Jan 2016, 10:42 PM edit delete reply

Isn't she pretty? Cent did such a great job on her ^_^
Sheela 25th Jan 2016, 2:20 PM edit delete reply

*changes compass to show east instead of west*

Done ! :D
Lukkai 25th Jan 2016, 10:46 PM edit delete reply

I've got a compass whose north needle is pointing southwards.

No really, I do! My brother once played around with it a bit, drawing a magnet over it. And promptly reversed the polarisation of the needles. I've never let go of that one!
Stormwind13 26th Jan 2016, 6:28 AM edit delete reply

Very pretty, Rose. CentComm did a great job translating your concept, but I have to say I like your concept. :-D
jamie59 24th Jan 2016, 9:51 PM edit delete reply

Now why would I assume anyone is on an acid trip? Maybe Aeneas.
Visvires 24th Jan 2016, 10:48 PM edit delete reply
It's not acid. We've seen these symptoms before. He tried to delete the string "@[=g3,8d]\&fbb=-q]/hk%fg" from a database, and doesn't know to freak in.
TheD-Wrek 24th Jan 2016, 10:26 PM edit delete reply

I cant get over how great this looks, great job Cent! :D

*braces self* :'D
Centcomm 25th Jan 2016, 12:21 AM edit delete reply

Thank yuuuuuuu!
Fairportfan 24th Jan 2016, 10:38 PM edit delete reply

As characters in my brother's books (my younger brother is David Weber) like to say, "I REALLY don't like battle plans that include words like 'probably' or 'fairly good'."
Tokyo Rose 24th Jan 2016, 10:42 PM edit delete reply

HOLY SHIT ARE YOU SERIOUS.
Centcomm 25th Jan 2016, 12:20 AM edit delete reply

He is actually Rose
Tokyo Rose 25th Jan 2016, 1:03 AM edit delete reply

WHAT
anonymous coward 25th Jan 2016, 4:45 AM edit delete reply
Wait, are you folks talking about the author connected to the Starfire boardgame series? I've only heard of that, never played.
Mark_L_A 25th Jan 2016, 6:15 AM edit delete reply

Think Honor Harrington, Empire of Man, Dahak, War God, Safehold, Furies, Apocalypse Troll, Excaliber Alternative, and others, THAT David Weber.

And Cent this page is absolutely FABULOUS!!
sigpig 25th Jan 2016, 7:23 AM edit delete reply

Hands TR a paper bag in which to breath...
Tokyo Rose 25th Jan 2016, 4:56 PM edit delete reply

*wheezes hysterically into paper bag* WHAT
Sheela 25th Jan 2016, 6:40 PM edit delete reply

@ Tokyo Rose : What? :D
Centcomm 25th Jan 2016, 7:01 PM edit delete reply

Yes People Like him like our stuff!
Stormwind13 26th Jan 2016, 12:53 PM edit delete reply

I asked David at Archon a couple years ago if he had an older brother that liked, might like such things as Data Chasers, Rose. He pretty much confirmed Fairport's identity (along with giving me a run down on how birthdays were grouped). I can't confirm David reads Data Chasers though (it would be cool if he did though and I think he might enjoy it).
Tango Xray Actual 25th Jan 2016, 12:01 AM edit delete reply
Nothing like a bit of 'certainty' in the mix... lol
Haegan2005 25th Jan 2016, 4:56 AM edit delete reply

I like his books.
Sheela 25th Jan 2016, 2:32 PM edit delete reply

I rather enjoyed Apocalypse Troll and Path of the Fury.
Oh, and the old Bolo tank stories are neat too. :)

As for Fairportfan, all we know is that he uses an avatar of the lovely Jo form Between Failures, and that according to Centcomm, he is actually Tokyo Rose in disguise!

As for bad plans, "I'm certain this will work" and "Watch this!", are usually worse plans ! :D
Lukkai 25th Jan 2016, 10:52 PM edit delete reply

Good friend of mine (who is also our Exalted GM) is a huge fan of the Harrington stories. I haven't found the time yet myself to read them though. My backlog in reading material still being way too big.

As for bad plans: I'd also be wary of any including the phrase "Trust me!" and/or "I know what I'm doing!" in the explanation.

And of course "Any plan vere hyu lose hyu hat iz a bad plan!"
Sheela 26th Jan 2016, 9:05 AM edit delete reply

Oh yes, loosing your hat is the worst!
Timotheus 26th Jan 2016, 9:54 AM edit delete reply

"Here, hold this a moment."
cattservant 24th Jan 2016, 10:47 PM edit delete reply

The onion is getting thin...
Stormwind13 26th Jan 2016, 12:45 PM edit delete reply

You think there is still an onion, catt? I'm pretty sure that it is a radish! :-D
Haegan2005 24th Jan 2016, 10:54 PM edit delete reply

This is getting interesting!
mjkj 25th Jan 2016, 12:50 AM edit delete reply

Awwwww...

Acantha is soooo concerned about Aeneas....

*lol* @alt text

Sheela 25th Jan 2016, 2:34 PM edit delete reply

Exceptional comic with great art and writing.
KarToon12 25th Jan 2016, 3:53 PM edit delete reply

Can't blame them for being weary of what's basically a back alley heart operation.
Lukkai 25th Jan 2016, 10:53 PM edit delete reply

It's alright! They've got a bottle of Bourbon for disinfectant!
TheSkulker 26th Jan 2016, 1:53 AM edit delete reply

Here's where one vote makes a big difference: Datachasers is tied for TWC #8 but is listed as #9. One vote would tip the scales.
mjkj 26th Jan 2016, 3:01 PM edit delete reply

...not when the other comic gets two votes at the same time ... or a hundred... ;)
Centcomm 26th Jan 2016, 3:03 PM edit delete reply

Being at 9 is no small thing !!! You guys are the best
Sheela 26th Jan 2016, 5:15 PM edit delete reply

Not to mention, that the comic you are duking it out with, is Stand Still, Stay Silent, which is a real quality act!
Stever 26th Jan 2016, 5:45 AM edit delete reply

I'm interested in seeing who this specialist is.

Heheh "let go of me" XD
Stormwind13 26th Jan 2016, 6:24 AM edit delete reply

Did you notice that Kagami totally ignored Dolly's probe to find out more about the Specialist? Kagami didn't want to be delegated to fixing toast by giving Tokyo Rose's secrets away. :-D
antrik 14th Oct 2016, 11:43 AM edit delete reply
