Ah yes the Murder Turd arises again even if only in gallows humor. Cliff hanger Friday... there should be a law against them.
Centcomm 11th Feb 2016, 9:18 PM edit delete reply

Always leave them wanting more....

"I hate 'Always leave them wanting more!'" --Lt. Shore Pibald (Schlock Mercenary)

I'm afraid that I have to agree with the Lieutenant on this one. Then again the last 3 pages could have been Friday Cliff Hangers too, the next few will probably be as well with the action this thick.
anonymous coward 11th Feb 2016, 11:05 PM edit delete reply
So you're saying it
Visvires 12th Feb 2016, 9:10 AM edit delete reply
Well, if you want a predictable piece of the story to end the week on, just imagine Decimus and his newly titled Least Favorite Door, trying to cut through with power swords and inadvisable humping.
anonymous coward 12th Feb 2016, 5:16 PM edit delete reply
The fact that you specified 'inadvisable humping' suggests the possibility that there is such a thing as 'advisable humping' of an armoured security door. I've seen some pretty strange romance stories before, but that one... oy.
Visvires 13th Feb 2016, 6:50 AM edit delete reply
"...suggests the possibility that there is such a thing as 'advisable humping'..."
"...of an armoured security door."
Anonymouth 31st Mar 2017, 6:57 AM edit delete reply
Well, they've gotta provide samples for the genetic locks somehow.

Though, I'd hate to think what the consequences would be for providing the wrong key.
HiFranc 11th Feb 2016, 9:47 PM edit delete reply

How come they blue guys have communications?
anonymous coward 11th Feb 2016, 9:54 PM edit delete reply
Because radio is dead simple--it only requires a power source and a wire to work--and they probably have some for line of sight communications? This is a world with psychic powers so maybe it can be... but I really don't see how you can crack the security on a wire and a battery which has no other components (since there is no security besides physical access). Even slightly more complicated radios shouldn't be too crackable.
HiFranc 11th Feb 2016, 10:10 PM edit delete reply

The term "burst" suggests to me that they found a way round the restrictions but it was shut down by Doctor Silver. If that's the case, given what we know about New Rome's communication systems, how come they were able to get round...I have a theory.
Centcomm 11th Feb 2016, 10:34 PM edit delete reply

It was bunnys?
HiFranc 11th Feb 2016, 11:11 PM edit delete reply

I forgot that the Cassians could communicate with each other. I thought that they were using the drones to pass on information.
kitty 12th Feb 2016, 5:59 PM edit delete reply
Plot bunnies, no doubt...
anonymous coward 12th Feb 2016, 1:03 AM edit delete reply
Just guessing here, but the burst transmission is probably to reduce the chances of hostiles picking up one's location by tracking an active signal. Sequence goes: Squish your message down into an encoded, archived, encrypted packet, send it with syn-acksyn-ack negotiated burst, receive confirmation, continue with the action. Even though radio signals don't go very far in a bunker made out of something more ridiculous than concrete reinforced with Faraday cages it's still useful for target acquisition and weapon locks in line of sight even through other interference. Because of that you don't want your troopers to broadcast continuous signals unless you're trying to get them shot at or you're trying to scare the enemy with your numbers and fearlessness.
Centcomm 11th Feb 2016, 10:09 PM edit delete reply

Long range comms are dead they can use short range comms the same as the Cassians.
anonymous coward 11th Feb 2016, 11:07 PM edit delete reply
Makes sense, in a Faraday-shielded, post-concrete bunker like this the only long-range communications that'll work under conventional physics is the stuff built into the palace itself.
Centcomm 12th Feb 2016, 12:04 AM edit delete reply

Exactly.. everyone has some form of short range comm. but the main tactical net is screwed thanks to doc silver
Lukkai 13th Feb 2016, 10:14 PM edit delete reply

Even so, it's as Denzic says: Garbled.
anonymous coward 13th Feb 2016, 10:38 PM edit delete reply
This is a bunker with Faraday shielding, electrical and electronic systems, and active combat featuring a range of different electromagnetic weapons, systems and countermeasures. Radio isn't gonna be good for much under those circumstances, but there's tricks you can use to get the message across if sender and receiver are using a protocol.
anonymous coward 11th Feb 2016, 9:50 PM edit delete reply
Continuity, oh man... in many cases it's a good thing but sometimes it's an unstable tower of old TNT which keeps getting more boxes stacked on top.

Also, here's a tactical suggestion for both sides: If you're already well past the sell-by date on the Geneva conventions maybe you should give up and start shooting grenade cans full of nerve gas. Why fight when you can just watch the enemy twitch and die?
Centcomm 11th Feb 2016, 10:09 PM edit delete reply

They probably would be except for. * Spoilers *
Sheela 13th Feb 2016, 8:21 AM edit delete reply

But suddenly, those boxes gets squished by a security door. :)

And then Aeneas begins to yell Freedoom over the local PA system, and everyone crap their pants.
Lukkai 13th Feb 2016, 9:56 PM edit delete reply

Pretty sure that everybody would be crapping their pants, no matter what Aeneas was shouting.

It could be "Pie for everyone!" or "Free t-shirts!" and they'd still panic.
mjkj 11th Feb 2016, 11:38 PM edit delete reply

Oh, blue squads or red ones?

That is NOT the cat's way, catt! You are supposed to sneak in and steal (or at least steal looks at) the upcoming pages!!! Oh and steal CentComm's tuna and root beer too! :-D

old cat is old tonight.

mjkj 12th Feb 2016, 12:23 PM edit delete reply

I will.

*starts waiting*

Lukkai 13th Feb 2016, 9:57 PM edit delete reply

How many bluebs are left at this point anyway? I mean, they must have taken quite a lot of losses even in that short time.
StellarJay 12th Feb 2016, 4:18 AM edit delete reply

And to think that the New Troy team just wanted a distraction to make their job of penetrating the palace easier. I guess the arms that the rebels received to create their disturbance gave them the best shot at a coup that they'd had in a long time. All that's going on is so much more than a distraction.
Stormwind13 12th Feb 2016, 9:31 AM edit delete reply

I think you might be right, StellarJay. What we can't be sure of is how many agendas are going on simultaneously. :-)

Rose has her agenda, fixing Aeneas (it seems, but is that ALL she is after?)

Miraiko wants to clean up Nova Roma. She has a list and she is checking it twice. I fear Douchimus is going to have a lot LESS support when she is done. :-D

CentComm has an agenda that seemingly involves Aeneas too, but we don't know the particulars.

The rebels inside the military seem intent on overthrowing Douchimus and installing Acantha.

The outside rebels, are they on-board with elevating Acantha or do they have someone ELSE in mind for the job of Emperor(Empress)? Currently we don't know.

Dolly wants to get Lynn safely home. Marcus and company are also largely in this camp.

Mr. Black wants to make (LOTS of) bucks. :-D

Connie seems to be intent on forming a relationship with Mr. Black (beyond employee and employer). :-D

Douchimus wants to strangle all opposition to his 'rightful' rule and punish his wayward sister and her friend (here's hoping he FAILS).

CentComm (the artist) and Tokyo Rose (the editor/writer/keeper of the lore) agenda seems to be to keep us guessing as long as possible (and they are doing too damn good a job at it! :-P)

So what other agendas are in the wind? :-)
Dragonrider 12th Feb 2016, 11:44 AM edit delete reply

Currently the Cassions are in two possibly three camps. Those that support Acantha, those bound to the Throne by programming and those that just want to kill someone, anyone just kill. Then there is Kali who is bound to the throne, Hiz Stupidness, but wishes Acantha could stop him without destroying the world so she could pledge allegiance to to Acantha. Hopefully avoiding everyone remembering what she is and destroying her.
Stormwind13 12th Feb 2016, 4:07 PM edit delete reply

Or what she really is, trapped. Blaming Kali would be like blaming your toaster for burning your bread. She didn't get to decide too much because of the way she is hardwired.
Centcomm 12th Feb 2016, 8:20 PM edit delete reply

Good analogy Stormwind.
Lukkai 13th Feb 2016, 9:59 PM edit delete reply

Nevermind the one Cassian that is guarding Irene.
chk 12th Feb 2016, 8:28 AM edit delete reply

Love the way you work those cameos in.
Centcomm 12th Feb 2016, 8:20 PM edit delete reply

Thank you - its been fun Ill tell you that!
KarToon12 12th Feb 2016, 9:29 AM edit delete reply

I like how the narration points out all the "normal/day in the life" stuff everyone was doing before everything went nuts. Goes to show how everything can be turned upside down in a heartbeat.
Centcomm 12th Feb 2016, 12:07 PM edit delete reply

Yep, thats what we are seeing here. War sucks.
Tokyo Rose 13th Feb 2016, 2:19 AM edit delete reply

I just wanted to give everybody at least one small bit of background info that might explain why they aren't in armor, are in armor, have a beef with the bluebs, etc. :D

Christ on a crutch, someone get me a gun, I'll back up the reds.
Centcomm 12th Feb 2016, 8:19 PM edit delete reply

hehe join the legion eh? sounds like a plan!
Cal 14th Feb 2016, 8:26 PM edit delete reply
If they can use a 6'4" former armored cav trooper with a predilection for whisky and redheads, where do I sign?
Haegan2005 12th Feb 2016, 9:29 PM edit delete reply

Okay, 4 squads versus three defenders? They need a Dolly or a TeeDee right now!
Stormwind13 12th Feb 2016, 10:21 PM edit delete reply

I think there are five of them. So not even a full squad per defender. Should be a piece of cake for the Lioness of Roma! :-D
Mark_L_A 12th Feb 2016, 11:28 PM edit delete reply

I have to wait until monday? ::pout::
Centcomm 13th Feb 2016, 2:40 AM edit delete reply

Sadly .. :D
Stormwind13 13th Feb 2016, 8:14 AM edit delete reply

At least it is ONLY Monday, Mark. I've followed some comics I never knew when (sometimes if) it is going to update. :-p. CentComm and Rose at least keep us informed.
Centcomm 13th Feb 2016, 9:44 AM edit delete reply

This is all about punctuality :D And consistency :D
TheSkulker 14th Feb 2016, 9:19 AM edit delete reply

Which is VERY MUCH appreciated. Even when disaster strikes to interrupt the flow, you keep us informed. It's all part of the professionalism that you guys exhibit. Thank you.
Sheela 14th Feb 2016, 3:31 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, it's quite annoying when webcomics just suddenly end unfinished.
That has happened waay too many times for me.
Timotheus 13th Feb 2016, 3:29 AM edit delete reply

Conversely, the fact that 4-5 squads of the emperor's finest are having a hard time taking out an ad hoc collection of 5 or so disparate rebels of varying ability, experience, and equipment says a great deal about their competence.
Lukkai 13th Feb 2016, 10:08 PM edit delete reply

Granted: The fact that they've got cover and are holding a bottleneck surely helps. Plus at least three of them are fully trained professional soldiers. And, being stationed at the palace, probably not the worst ones.
DLKmusic 13th Feb 2016, 9:37 PM edit delete reply

Gosh darn it, I'm all out of popcorn!!!!
Sheela 14th Feb 2016, 3:32 PM edit delete reply

I'm innocent !
Lukkai 13th Feb 2016, 10:13 PM edit delete reply

And I think ac will look kindly (as do I) on Denzic really concentrating on his shots. Talking is fine while he's just scanning the area in front of him, maybe give some suppressing fire. But when he actually goes for a target, he'll focus on taking the shot and nothing else.
CptKerion 14th Feb 2016, 11:41 AM edit delete reply
likely options for this A. the New Troy Team B. Miraiko or C. my personal favorite, Maxus! Lord General of all things supremely badass and he who brings unstoppable awesomeness in his wake!
Stormwind13 14th Feb 2016, 6:25 PM edit delete reply

Um... There may be another option, CaptK.

VERY nice vote incentive, CentComm!
Spelledeg 15th Feb 2016, 11:09 AM edit delete reply

My gosh, Charis is the pessimist here. Good thing Gwynn's carrying the morale >:D

You wouldn't believe how much I want to punch the Captain with a tank right now.
