But how fast can she make Julienne Fries?
(Have I dated myself again)
Ofgud01 17th Feb 2016, 5:50 AM edit delete reply

She will not break.

I'm guessing pretty fast :)

I got it
Stormwind13 17th Feb 2016, 2:53 PM edit delete reply

She can probably make them faster than you can SAY it Tim. Damn she is fast.
Sheela 17th Feb 2016, 5:47 PM edit delete reply

ooOohhh .. fries ! :D
Haegan2005 16th Feb 2016, 9:05 PM edit delete reply

Good old fashioned expression of self...

Let's see it again!
Stormwind13 17th Feb 2016, 7:04 AM edit delete reply

I think you will Haegan. I don't think the Blueboys are smart enough to surrender fast enough to save themselves.
Visvires 17th Feb 2016, 10:50 AM edit delete reply
Well, I count two of three dead, so the next strip should include more delightful slicing.

Edit: Of four, yes. The cuts seems to be in exactly the same place, though. I'm still thinking those might be the same two guys.
Just_IDD 18th Feb 2016, 5:56 AM edit delete reply
I count 4/4 dead.
Though, I have to wonder about this armor. It seams to be barely serviceable when attacked by particle weapons but only if thete is a single energy type. Then there is these huge puffy fake muscle lumps all over it concentrating force on seemingly weak points rendering itself completely ineffective to any sort of melee weapon. Especially so a weapon, the shock blade, that everyone with any fighting prowess seems to to be wielding.
Just_IDD 18th Feb 2016, 6:01 AM edit delete reply
I left out the part where the helmets, especially the bleubs helmets obscure vision to the point that a mop bucket would be a serviceable replacement, and judging by the faulty latch structure the mop bucket might provide better protection.
Lukkai 18th Feb 2016, 7:46 AM edit delete reply

For all we know those helmets could have a full HUD on the inside.

But even if not: Remember that bluebs are supposed to look impressive. Not necessarily go into full combat.
Lukkai 18th Feb 2016, 7:45 AM edit delete reply

Actually does seem to be the two at the back only. Yet, that is.

Not a shock blade, actually. But yes, it penetrates just about any wearable armour without fail. The only thing that might block it below building strength armour would probably be shields. And we don't really know about that.
DLKmusic 18th Feb 2016, 11:50 AM edit delete reply

I'm also inclined to believe that at this stage, surrendering is pointless, she will kill them anyway
Cal 16th Feb 2016, 9:07 PM edit delete reply
You guys are just getting better and better with every strip. :)
chk 17th Feb 2016, 10:36 AM edit delete reply

True that.
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 9:55 PM edit delete reply

Thank you!
CptKerion 16th Feb 2016, 9:09 PM edit delete reply
I did not think about her as the inevitable cavalry but ooooh am I so glad she was. She's one of my favorites...

and as you all know I am prone to music I think fits the situation, so ladies and gentlemen, Blues Saraceno - Dogs of War
Tokyo Rose 16th Feb 2016, 10:18 PM edit delete reply

The whole time I was doing scripting and layouts for this segment, I was running Disturbed - Indestructible. I usually don't run anything with lyrics while I'm writing because I find it distracting, but it actually worked really well this time.
velvetsanity 17th Feb 2016, 1:48 AM edit delete reply

Excellent (and scene-appropriate) choice, Rose.

Can't wait for Kansas City RockFest - they're headlining the main stage ^_^

The whole siege makes me hum 'Slaughter your world' by Blind Ferret entertainment
CptKerion 17th Feb 2016, 9:46 AM edit delete reply
I dare say that Indestructible is a truly excellent choice for this as well Rose.
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:48 PM edit delete reply

I like the song!! I added it to my list of work songs!
Dragonrider 16th Feb 2016, 9:12 PM edit delete reply

Uh Hey Blewbies, Ooooppppsss guess what she doesn't like to be called a bitch. Oh Yes, guess what she switched sides soooooo sorry, you loose.
Stormwind13 17th Feb 2016, 7:20 AM edit delete reply

I really don't think Noctis cares one way or the other what they call her, Dragonrider. I think she is offended by their continued existence, as it pollutes the world in general.
Sheela 17th Feb 2016, 5:54 PM edit delete reply

Still, probably didn't help them out, calling her a Bitch.
kitty 17th Feb 2016, 6:35 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, I couldn't help thinking, "Cassian bitch..." Uh-huh. That's the one that pushed the button.

Please can we see her carve up Prince Douchebag? Pretty pleaaaase?
jamie59 16th Feb 2016, 9:14 PM edit delete reply

Angel of Death
Stormwind13 17th Feb 2016, 5:27 AM edit delete reply

Very much, jamie. These Blueboys don't know what hurt they are in for. By the time they do, they are already dead!
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:40 PM edit delete reply

I prefer Queen of Blades "D
Sheela 17th Feb 2016, 5:54 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, we see that in the new vote incentive.

It's very nice btw. :)
HiFranc 16th Feb 2016, 9:19 PM edit delete reply

Hopefully, she can kill them all before any of them has a chance to report back. If word gets back to Decimus, he could rescind the order. Similarly, I hope that she can make Max's soldiers understand the importance of not reporting the incident.
xpacetrue 16th Feb 2016, 9:52 PM edit delete reply

I doubt that the Praetorians will have a chance to report anything. First, Dr. Silver really mucked up communications. Second, the blues will be very dead very soon and have more pressing concerns at the moment (like staying alive).

Also, why would the reds report Noctis for helping them?

Anyway, Prince Douchebag is deep underground, impatiently waiting for his men to cut through a certain door. So, I doubt a messenger would run to him with this news. Nor would the Prince instantly figure out why Noctis switched sides. For a spell, anyway, he'd be too busy fuming and tantruming at such news to think things through rationally.
HiFranc 16th Feb 2016, 10:06 PM edit delete reply

Blues: One of them may get a message out with his last breath. Short range communications are working.

Max's soldiers: Whilst generally more disciplined, the fact that they were monologing earlier shows that their discipline could be improved. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them decides to pass on the information to boost the morale of their side. However, the more people know that fact, the more likely it is to get back to Decimus.
Lukkai 16th Feb 2016, 10:50 PM edit delete reply

Short range being the decisive words here. I'm rather sure that their communications won't be able to reach him directly right now. And since not all of the squads will be using the same frequency, there's even a slight chance that no one really knows how and, even more, where to reach him at this point.

I also expect the number of bluebs able to report anything to anybody save a coroner to be rapidly going towards zero. They've already taken quite a few losses even before Maxus would start fighting them. And fighting them he will. He's got no other choice.
Dragonrider 16th Feb 2016, 10:08 PM edit delete reply

@xpactrue "he'd be too busy fuming and tantruming at such news to think things through rationally."
This is Hiz Imperial Lost My Lollipop Go Find It we're talking about. He never thinks things through rationally.

Except in the very rare case where it screws up everything.
xpacetrue 17th Feb 2016, 1:30 AM edit delete reply

Prince Douchey may be insane and he can act incredibly foolish. However, we've also seen how he can be quite capable when it comes to his own interests. That's what makes him so dangerous. If he was the constant blundering idiot, then his reign would have ended long ago - probably before it even began. This is the guy who got away with murdering his father to inherit the throne. And he managed to set up a nigh-foolproof dead man's switch on the entire city-state.
Tokyo Rose 17th Feb 2016, 1:27 AM edit delete reply

Cracked up at "Hiz Imperial Lost My Lollipop Go Find It". Now I have this mental image of Private Denzic saying, quite derisively, "Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll?"
CptKerion 17th Feb 2016, 9:48 AM edit delete reply
Oh god that is hilarious.

Of course, we know that there will be defenses on the other side of the door, and the soldiers' weapons will all be drained of power...
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:40 PM edit delete reply

It is not likely that the Pince has any idea whats happening .. All the blues can get on the tac net is Nyan Cat.

Especially BAD gossip.

This page is full of win! Go Noctis!
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:38 PM edit delete reply

Thank you so much!
Sheela 17th Feb 2016, 5:58 PM edit delete reply

Yes indeed, Noctis is winning quite hard here.
DLKmusic 16th Feb 2016, 10:16 PM edit delete reply

I stand by my comment from the previous page...

Noctis, you sexy porcelain faced Goddess of Terror, WE LUUUUUV YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
Wolfsbane 16th Feb 2016, 11:08 PM edit delete reply

DLK, I think you are going to be the president of the Noctis Fan Club...
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:39 PM edit delete reply

Sounds like a Noctis fan club indeed . When I asked her about it she just stared at me for a long time and walked away .. Im scared now.
Wolfsbane 18th Feb 2016, 1:29 AM edit delete reply

...and there goes DLK following along after her with puppy dog eyes...
Lukkai 18th Feb 2016, 7:50 AM edit delete reply

Knowing Noctis, she'd actually find a way to put such a club to good use. She's not one to squander a possibly useful resource.
Mark_L_A 16th Feb 2016, 10:17 PM edit delete reply

I"ve liked Noctis for awhile since we were first introduced to her. Because she always tries to find the balance between being ordered to terrorize and harm Douchimus's enemies of the day and protecting those who really are for the betterment of Roma. However I still prefer Malati.
velvetsanity 17th Feb 2016, 1:45 AM edit delete reply

I miss Malati
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:38 PM edit delete reply

Malati did her part. After all had she actually done her job Maxus would be dead now.
Sheela 17th Feb 2016, 6:27 PM edit delete reply

Malati was an interesting character.
She was not all good, but she was also not all bad.

That made her interesting. :)
The Old Scribe 16th Feb 2016, 10:40 PM edit delete reply

"It slices, it dices, it glows in the dark ..."

Dumbass Blackballs (Blueballs?) will never learn not to insult a Cassian carrying a weapon, or not carrying a weapon for that matter ... cuz they ARE a weapon.
Lukkai 16th Feb 2016, 10:51 PM edit delete reply

Well, they certainly did stop calling her a bitch.

At least this batch.
Lukkai 16th Feb 2016, 11:02 PM edit delete reply

Thought occured to me: Should Dust survive and be able to explain his connections without that fact changing accordingly, he (and/or Kat in this case) might be used as a go-between for Maxus' side.

As much as he takes his role as protector of Nova Roma seriously and is a man with pride ("They are attacking our palace?!"), he'd probably rather not fight the New Troy team if it proves to not be necessary. And he's rational enough to swallow his pride and go for a more sensible option, should it present itself. (Though there are a number of factors to be counted in here, obviously. Face being one of them after all.)
Wolfsbane 16th Feb 2016, 11:07 PM edit delete reply

Gotta love the sound effects. Glotch! Sssppptt!

H..hold she helping them?? :O

Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:37 PM edit delete reply

simple and to the point. Thats our Nocty!
Timotheus 17th Feb 2016, 12:32 AM edit delete reply

The liberation has started. Period. Maxus's authority as general now rests on being Acanthea's general. All troops or militia (including cassians) who turn to follow him are loyal troops (Soldiers of the Queen) regardless of whether they were in rebellion or not before he took the field. Troops who follow Decimus are now traitors (If he loses). The Trojans are loyal supporting friends and mercenaries (and they'll have the documents to prove it before the coronation) and Lynn was just another poor victim of the usurpers villainy.

Unless of course Aenaes can't stop the contingencies. Then Nova Roma may be the site of an unfortunate "Weapons Malfunction" on Centcom's part.
mjkj 17th Feb 2016, 12:53 AM edit delete reply

You go, Noctis!!!

Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:37 PM edit delete reply

hehe I knew peeps would love this page.
Talewinds 17th Feb 2016, 2:32 AM edit delete reply
Do your duty...... Bad choice of words.
Noctis has a duty to New Rome and instructions that allow her to interpret her "duty" as she sees fit.
Stormwind13 17th Feb 2016, 5:30 AM edit delete reply

Really Talewinds, there were no GOOD choices for the Blueboys here. Too many BAD choices in their past for that I think.
Visvires 17th Feb 2016, 10:41 AM edit delete reply
Even surrendering wouldn't help them. The things they've done, a trial afterwards would just be a slower death than Noctis' blade.
anonymous coward 17th Feb 2016, 4:18 PM edit delete reply
Even worse, "duty" is sometimes used as slang for taking a shit. It also sounds very similar to "doody" and "dookie" which are unmistakably slang for shit. So telling her to do her duty is telling her to take a crap... which generally means flushing crap down the drain. I don't think you have to stretch it at all to suggest she has just done so figuratively. Nova Roma has been constipated with lots of blue shit that still needs to get flushed, I hope there's enough toilet paper and the plumbing can handle it.
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:36 PM edit delete reply

Thats why she was very careful in her wording to the prince
Lukkai 18th Feb 2016, 7:53 AM edit delete reply

She's been hoping for such an opportunity for years, hasn't she.
Matt Knab 17th Feb 2016, 5:49 AM edit delete reply

Deoxy 17th Feb 2016, 10:23 AM edit delete reply
Nice page, but it's not quite clear to me - are there four dead on this page or just two? I lean towards two, but that last panel could be the front two getting it as well.
CptKerion 17th Feb 2016, 10:55 AM edit delete reply
If the last panel were the front two getting it as well, there would either be bodies behind them, or the people we're rooting for.
Stormwind13 17th Feb 2016, 2:53 PM edit delete reply

I think that is all four of them, CptK. I think the angle of perspective is what causes you to not see the other bodies nor the rebels.

Looking back at the fifth panel of Backup and the arrangement of the Blueboys, I'm thinking maybe she took the two on the right and then the two on the left.

I'm pretty sure Noctis doesn't need multiple swings to down a 'normal' person.
Deoxy 17th Feb 2016, 4:56 PM edit delete reply
Two replies, and they disagree with each other... makes my point, I think. The next page will probably make it clear, but something to help this page might not be a bad thing.
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:35 PM edit delete reply

Only two men are dead as of this page.. :D
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:36 PM edit delete reply

Just the two so far :D
TheD-Wrek 17th Feb 2016, 11:59 AM edit delete reply

Stormwind13 17th Feb 2016, 2:55 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, D-Wrek. That is a pretty good reaction to that level of carnage. Think about how SHARP that sword has to be... And how strong, precise her attacks are. DAMN indeed!
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:35 PM edit delete reply

Oh it gets so much worse.
anonymous coward 17th Feb 2016, 4:23 PM edit delete reply
How much does that not-sword actually shine? I'm not seeing light effects from its glow on the blueshells that ought to be illuminated by it if it's actually light-emitting. Or is that just a rendering shortcut to actually finish the rendering before the end of the decade?
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 5:35 PM edit delete reply

Its actually a alloy called " Moonstone steel " it is translucent.

Also on a technical point there is a point light affixed to it but apparently my fill lights and SFX drowned it out.
CptKerion 17th Feb 2016, 6:17 PM edit delete reply
When looking carefully I could just see the evidence of the glow on the white parts of the armor.
Timotheus 17th Feb 2016, 11:10 PM edit delete reply

Is that one of those mono-molecular sword edges? Where the cutting edge is one atom thick?
Centcomm 17th Feb 2016, 11:44 PM edit delete reply

Its not actually mono edged but it is a power blade...
Lukkai 18th Feb 2016, 7:56 AM edit delete reply

Hmm... Will that "The Lord General?" prove to be foreshadowing? I wonder...
Stormwind13 18th Feb 2016, 3:13 PM edit delete reply

I'm thinking that is one of Maxus' titles, Lukkai. His soldiers know that he has successfully fought androids before.
Lukkai 18th Feb 2016, 7:41 PM edit delete reply

That's what I'm refering to. Question being, whether he might be just short behind Noctis.
Stormwind13 18th Feb 2016, 8:01 PM edit delete reply

Ah! Sorry, that is a really good question. We might even get an answer, if the EVIL duo don't suddenly jump elsewhere.
Stormwind13 18th Feb 2016, 3:17 PM edit delete reply

Data Chasers has fallen to #17. That is the lowest it has been in several months, this late in the month. :-( I'm voting all I can.
