Why isn't Noctis smiling at what she hears? At lest as long as her back is to them.
Centcomm 21st Feb 2016, 9:21 PM edit delete reply

Actually Noctis's lack of expression does come up in the upcoming pages. :D
Stormwind13 21st Feb 2016, 9:23 PM edit delete reply

I'm not sure Noctis knows HOW to smile, jamie.

As a bit of an amateur comedian myself, I can take a stab at this: If you're trying to tell a really funny joke often they involve saying something horrible, disgusting, or incomprehensibly weird. When I tell jokes like this I find it is imperative to keep a straight face to play up the dynamic tension between the neutral expression and the bizarre material.
Say what you will about whether or not Noctis means for this to be a joke, but Decimus' thugs being rolled up by an artificial person after all the Nova Roma propaganda about how artificial people are worthless abominations... is pretty funny.
Kamy 22nd Feb 2016, 6:53 AM edit delete reply

Because then, it would be Rose, not Noctis !
I like both, but only Rose have feelings and Words ...
Noctis is all for its Mission and Goals.
I don't know how fun would be a night out with her... ?
Sheela 22nd Feb 2016, 9:10 AM edit delete reply

Alas, Noctis gave all her emotions to Malati, in the hopes it would make her more .. sound.

Now that Malati is dead, Noctis has no emotions left.
anonymous coward 22nd Feb 2016, 12:47 PM edit delete reply
With sufficient planning, preparation and resources any operation can succeed. If she felt the need to take 'fun night out' seriously as an important operational goal she might just surprise you.
CptKerion 23rd Feb 2016, 12:17 AM edit delete reply
My theory is a bit more simple and a bit more sad.
It ultimately boils down to "no one said thank you" but is much more complicated than that. You'll notice how they're talking about her like she isn't there, or as if she were some kind of uber-murder-toaster. Not a person.
Sheela 23rd Feb 2016, 12:46 AM edit delete reply

Well, at least we now know where Marcus' toaster went.
Stormwind13 23rd Feb 2016, 6:34 AM edit delete reply

I think you nailed it CptK. People aren't used to thinking of the Cassians as PEOPLE but as weapons of terror in Douchimus' arsenal. Because of the madman holding their leashes (in a choke hold) no one DARES get close enough to find out differently.
Haegan2005 21st Feb 2016, 9:29 PM edit delete reply

I like the side they chose!

This had me laughing. Thank you ladies!
Centcomm 21st Feb 2016, 11:13 PM edit delete reply

Thank you ! :D
Sheela 22nd Feb 2016, 9:11 AM edit delete reply

It's a very pragmatic side.
Coincidentally, it's also called "being on Noctis' good side". :)
cattservant 21st Feb 2016, 9:40 PM edit delete reply

In for a penny, in for a pound!
Centcomm 21st Feb 2016, 11:13 PM edit delete reply

And what a pound it will be :D
Wolfsbane 21st Feb 2016, 11:22 PM edit delete reply

You mean what a pounding it will be (and already has started to be)... :D
Sheela 22nd Feb 2016, 9:12 AM edit delete reply

I dunno man, I don't think the nazi-smurfs would pay a single penny for the pounding she's about to give them.
Dragonrider 21st Feb 2016, 9:40 PM edit delete reply

Noctis would seem to have a preset schedule, I am surprised she didn't at least great the ones she saved. Of course Max may be close behind.
Timotheus 21st Feb 2016, 9:42 PM edit delete reply

This being a Rome knock-off scenario, maybe she's going to dedicate her victory to Malati's sense of humor and totally confuse everyone.
velvetsanity 22nd Feb 2016, 1:52 AM edit delete reply

That would be too, too perfect lol
The Old Scribe 21st Feb 2016, 10:13 PM edit delete reply

I'll take "Whichever side isn't slaughtering us" for $200.00, Alex. :D

Noctis is dutifully following Doucheimus' rather ambiguous orders. She's just putting her own spin on them 'For the glory of Nova Roma' and not for the Praetorian bully boys.
HiFranc 21st Feb 2016, 11:38 PM edit delete reply

I think it was "For the glory of the throne". Of course, the praetorians don't exactly enhance the glory of the throne whatever Decimus's diseased mind might think. However, the throne would be more glorious when someone else sits on it.
Sheela 22nd Feb 2016, 9:14 AM edit delete reply

Yes indeed, the throne would be more glorius with Acantha upon it.

... or maybe even the cat!
Cat, thy name shall be Empress!
anonymous coward 21st Feb 2016, 10:13 PM edit delete reply
I know why she's not talking, and it's a really simple reason. Eyes towards the enemy! If she's not done killing yet then it's not time to face towards neutrals and friendlies yet either. It seems likely she has a whole lot of bloody knife work to do still and not nearly as much time to do it as she wants if she's slow about it.
Sheela 22nd Feb 2016, 9:15 AM edit delete reply

That's actually a really good point.

Besides, Noctis tends to be very .. goal oriented.
anonymous coward 22nd Feb 2016, 12:44 PM edit delete reply
Indeed, if only our stunned crew of gossipers had the presence of mind to seize this opportunity to get to work on the other blueshells in the area. Noctis' to do list is really long and she could use the help!
HiFranc 21st Feb 2016, 10:23 PM edit delete reply

How many pretorians are left?
Haegan2005 21st Feb 2016, 11:39 PM edit delete reply

(heh) Four fewer....
mjkj 21st Feb 2016, 11:43 PM edit delete reply

Woah, great.

They are totally confused =P

Go, Noctis!!!

Fairportfan 22nd Feb 2016, 12:48 AM edit delete reply

"I'll take 'Not Getting Horribly Slaughtered' for two hundred, please..."
Vivocateur 22nd Feb 2016, 1:28 AM edit delete reply

Yeah Noctis! Knock em dead! *badum tish*
Greenwood Goat 22nd Feb 2016, 2:47 AM edit delete reply
Noctis: Please carry on talking about me as if I can't hear you.

Noctis wouldn't actually say that, but just imagine the effect it would have...

Medic: They're unharmed, no neural damage or toxins detected, but they seem frozen in position...

anonymous coward 22nd Feb 2016, 12:37 PM edit delete reply
That would be messy, specifically as anyone present whose undershorts were not yet fouled with urine and/or fecal matter so enriches them.
sigpig 22nd Feb 2016, 7:29 AM edit delete reply

I love the chevrons pointing directly to Charis' SLT covers in Panel 2. However, can they really be Stealth Laser Turrets if they have arrows pointing to them saying "Look at me! Look at me!"...
Sheela 22nd Feb 2016, 9:17 AM edit delete reply

Ah, but that's why they are cleverly disguised as boobies!
anonymous coward 22nd Feb 2016, 12:41 PM edit delete reply
That's the white-head, right? I never would have noticed those chevrons if you hadn't pointed it out because it's a dark colour against a dark colour.
I'm also not sure how the features pointed at are known to be stealth laser turrets either, how do you know?
Centcomm 22nd Feb 2016, 8:15 PM edit delete reply

There are no Stealth laser turrents.. Sheeesh guys.
Sheela 22nd Feb 2016, 9:48 PM edit delete reply

B-But .. they're lasers, centcomm ... LASERS !
TeeDee wants some !

They could also known as "Tokyo Rose's Fancy Tits" ! :)
notStanley 23rd Feb 2016, 2:29 PM edit delete reply
of course CentCom denies the existence of SLT, they would not be Stealth if you knew about them
chk 22nd Feb 2016, 11:09 AM edit delete reply

And the dance continues.
ChaosTheory 22nd Feb 2016, 2:54 PM edit delete reply
That dialog was just beautiful. What the actual $@#! indeed.
Matt Knab 22nd Feb 2016, 3:07 PM edit delete reply

Not gonna complain. Feel free to offer assistance! :D
Kitty 22nd Feb 2016, 5:35 PM edit delete reply
Nope, not cosmic radiation, no, not planetary alignment.

More like, "SO done with Decimus and all of his crap."
Stormwind13 23rd Feb 2016, 6:15 AM edit delete reply

Too true, Kitty. The problem is that to a lot of people the Cassians ONLY follow Douchimus' commands. Remember back when Kali found Acantha after Douchimus' attempt to rape her? The one guard thought that Kali was Douchimus' sock puppet. Found out otherwise the HARD way. I imagine that his attitude is far from unique.

Here Noctis is killing the Blueboys, so what warped order resulted in that result? And what orders does Noctis have for the rebels? The Cassians have a reputation for some horrific tortures. So the rebels are likely wondering what is in store for them.
TheD-Wrek 22nd Feb 2016, 6:27 PM edit delete reply

What Kat said... :'D

Love this page~ :D
notStanley 23rd Feb 2016, 2:28 PM edit delete reply
Poor Noctis is going to get her boots dirty walking out through that pool of blood
Centcomm 23rd Feb 2016, 2:35 PM edit delete reply

Thats why her boots and jumpsuit is teflon coated.. Blood just slicks right off.
Zimriel 7th Mar 2016, 8:34 PM edit delete reply
She cooks bad guys for breakfast. And poops out their ash.
Speedy Marsh 31st Mar 2017, 9:17 AM edit delete reply
"You heard what they called her. Maybe karma really is a... Cassian."
Speedy Marsh 31st Mar 2017, 10:38 AM edit delete reply
I love that Noctis means night, and that she wears black, but is white.

She's played this game of chess, both as a black knight and a white knight.

With her sword, she made short work of giving the black-hearted crooks (black rooks?) the long blade-kiss goodnight.

She even acts like a chess knight, never moving straight like other pieces, always adding a twist of the unexpected.

Ceci has taken on a stony demeanor, like that of Noctis, since the youthful, Malati-like part of Ceci is gone (for now). I'd love to see what would happen, if Noctis crossed paths with Ceci.

All the characters in this comic are so well thought out, and Noctis ranks right up there with the main cast.
