Uhhhhhh, Praetorians how do you say, "We're Fucked", in Nova Roma speak?
grahamf 23rd Feb 2016, 9:43 PM edit delete reply
Don't worry, it's translated automatically.
Talewinds 24th Feb 2016, 9:34 AM edit delete reply
If you could hear them speak the tone is a universal language that says "We're Fucked"
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 1:13 PM edit delete reply

Its called .. Noctis.
Sheela 24th Feb 2016, 3:05 PM edit delete reply

Too bad Malati is dead, she would have ENJOYED this !
Centcomm 25th Feb 2016, 6:44 PM edit delete reply

She really would.
Lukkai 25th Feb 2016, 7:54 PM edit delete reply

She's giggling like a teenage girl while eating popcorn, watching this from android heaven.
jamie59 23rd Feb 2016, 9:07 PM edit delete reply

When you walk past a hornet's nest walk quiet & be alert. Never hit the hornet's nest especially if you're naked. For all their armor & weapons those blue boys may as well be naked with sticks.
Stormwind13 24th Feb 2016, 6:29 AM edit delete reply

The Blueboys don't KNOW how to be quiet. If they aren't being loud, people wouldn't know how bad a$$ they are. But yeah, jamie... they are so out of their league that they don't even KNOW how outclassed they are. Unfortunately, schools in now... Noctis is the teacher. The lessons are hard, sharp and... PERMANENT.
T1-G3R2501 24th Feb 2016, 9:28 AM edit delete reply
Mmmmm I've got it bad, got it bad, got it Baaaad! I'll fight that teacher!
Mark_L_A 23rd Feb 2016, 9:16 PM edit delete reply

Noctis is going to have some fun now.
lirvilas 23rd Feb 2016, 9:30 PM edit delete reply

"Reloading!"

^ my guess as to Team Blue's last words
anonymous coward 23rd Feb 2016, 11:19 PM edit delete reply
"Mommy!" is a more traditional guess for people dying when faced with a nightmare.
Kamy 24th Feb 2016, 1:52 AM edit delete reply

I'm thinking more to the name of a brown and slushy matter ...as a last word.
Lukkai 24th Feb 2016, 2:33 AM edit delete reply

How about "RetreaACK!"
Greenwood Goat 24th Feb 2016, 8:08 AM edit delete reply
- "I surr-AIIK!"

- "Orders! I-*"

Lukkai 25th Feb 2016, 7:57 PM edit delete reply

I actually think that she would let a guy trying to shoot Canoi live long enough to pull the trigger at least once. Just for the heck of it.
DLKmusic 25th Feb 2016, 6:16 PM edit delete reply

My vote for last word? "Grrrrkh"
Stormwind13 23rd Feb 2016, 9:35 PM edit delete reply

That second panel the look Noctis is giving Dust... That is GREAT, CentComm. As is Dust's response to receiving that look (good job Rose with his dialogue). :-D
Sheela 24th Feb 2016, 6:39 AM edit delete reply

Ha ha, yeah, Dust is smart enough to not push the issue.
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 1:13 PM edit delete reply

Thankys !
Lukkai 25th Feb 2016, 7:58 PM edit delete reply

Is it bad, that I think she's also looking unfathomably attractive in that panel?

Of course I'm not the one on the receiving end of that look, that might help.
Haegan2005 23rd Feb 2016, 9:57 PM edit delete reply

This could be bad...

Imagine the damage the blade might be taking. That could get expensive!
lirvilas 23rd Feb 2016, 11:33 PM edit delete reply

Eh, Noctis is merely pulling a Goemon.

That blade'll be fine.
Tokyo Rose 24th Feb 2016, 3:20 PM edit delete reply

Goemon is incredibly badass.
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 10:20 AM edit delete reply

Her blade is made of " Moonstone Steel " its a crystal steel thats almost unbreakable and the powerfield will annihilate any matter it comes in contact with so deflecting bullets is very easy as long as you have the speed. And Noctis has more than the needed speed to stop bullets in mid flight.
Greenwood Goat 25th Feb 2016, 2:10 AM edit delete reply
So it's like the Sword of the Moon from Celtic legend, manufactured to order! Cool!
The Old Scribe 23rd Feb 2016, 10:19 PM edit delete reply

Fuck with the bull and you get the horns. Captain Cano is about to learn a sharp lesson, to wit, don't ever piss off a Cassian by shooting at her and calling her names. Too bad he and his men won't get any benefit from learning it. That's why you hear so few complaints from people whose parachutes fail.
Sheela 24th Feb 2016, 6:40 AM edit delete reply

True, if you kick a dog, expect it to bite back.
ProfEtheric 23rd Feb 2016, 10:35 PM edit delete reply

How fucked are THEY? Answer: VERY! XD
Stormwind13 24th Feb 2016, 6:22 AM edit delete reply

::Looks up the FUCKED in the dictionary. Sees panels four and five next to the entry:: Yeah, it is REALLY that bad for the Blueboys.
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 10:20 AM edit delete reply

The levels of Fucked just went off the charts for these boys :D
cattservant 23rd Feb 2016, 10:42 PM edit delete reply

Ignorance rewarded!
anonymous coward 23rd Feb 2016, 11:21 PM edit delete reply
I know, that's such an awesome thing to see when it happens... to someone other than ourselves.
TheSkulker 24th Feb 2016, 1:48 AM edit delete reply

Not quite. Ignorance can be cured.

Stupidity, on the other hand...
Sheela 24th Feb 2016, 6:41 AM edit delete reply

What a lovely Darwin award, they are abot to receive. :)
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 10:21 AM edit delete reply

Oh Noctis has a cure for stupidity.. Shes currently holding it :D
Speedy Marsh 31st Mar 2017, 10:51 AM edit delete reply
Yeah. His stupidity will be cured, once she's Noctis block off. ;)

No head, no stupidity.
HiFranc 23rd Feb 2016, 10:55 PM edit delete reply

I take it that she's blocking their shots with her sword?

{edit} I have this image of Yoda saying, "Insulting superior opponent dying path is."
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 10:22 AM edit delete reply

Yep she is indeed. At her top processing speed she can literally watch the bullets coming at her in slow motion. Then its just a matter of flicking them with the sword to destroy them.
HeSerpenty 23rd Feb 2016, 10:55 PM edit delete reply

OHOOOO snap you done did it now! Y'ALLZ GONNA DIE X"D

Hahaha Dust.. "Please stop looking at me" XDDD
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 10:22 AM edit delete reply

Noctis has that effect on people. :D
Wolfsbane 24th Feb 2016, 11:47 PM edit delete reply

Except for NFC (Noctis Fan Club) members. They want more.

OK, we.
;)
HiFranc 23rd Feb 2016, 10:59 PM edit delete reply

Noctis is cleverly not taking action until one of the praetorians insults her. That way she can claim that she was reacting to their breaking of the law (I suspect that insulting a Cassian is against New Rome's laws).
Lukkai 24th Feb 2016, 2:34 AM edit delete reply

I'm pretty certain that shooting at one is.

Not that it would make any difference. She slaughtered the first bunch without waiting on something like that.
HiFranc 24th Feb 2016, 2:55 AM edit delete reply

One did call her a "bitch". I believe that counts as insulting behaviour.
Sheela 24th Feb 2016, 6:54 AM edit delete reply

I do think she's keeping quiet either to avoid getting stuck in some logical trap, or because Maxus ordered her to.
Lukkai 25th Feb 2016, 8:00 PM edit delete reply

Or simply because it is convenient and gets the job of utterly terrorising everyone around her beautifully done.
antrik 14th Oct 2016, 1:39 PM edit delete reply
I'm pretty sure insulting a Cassian is *not* against Roman law. Androids are considered "things", and Cassians are no exception, as has been shown on multiple occasions. Also, they are meant to be feared, not respected.
mjkj 23rd Feb 2016, 11:00 PM edit delete reply

Wow, so cool.

Go, Noctis!!!

Fairportfan 23rd Feb 2016, 11:13 PM edit delete reply

"Nobody told me they could do that"

Not necessary for you to know was it?
HiFranc 23rd Feb 2016, 11:32 PM edit delete reply

Knowing the Praetorians, I believe the it's more of, "You're not in high school now - you're not going to be spoon fed everything."
Timotheus 24th Feb 2016, 12:56 AM edit delete reply

We are playing a very delicate game of semantics here to avoid tripping her watchdog protocols. Her orders from her acknowledged legitimate authority are something like to "preserve the glory of the throne". To do this she has decided the legitimate authority she must serve is his sister. This means serving the lord general that will support this sister, not the new one. Cassians serve their rulers by destroying rebels. If you support the lord general and "Queen" you can't be a rebel. The blue boys don't support them so they must be rebels. The red guys and militia might be Maxus's so they get the benefit of the doubt unless they attack her. But she can't explain this out loud for fear of triggering her internal governor.
Or something like that.
Sheela 24th Feb 2016, 6:56 AM edit delete reply

Yes, I agree with this.
Alternatively, Maxus simply ordered her to be quiet.
Mark_L_A 24th Feb 2016, 9:35 AM edit delete reply

I doubt that Maxus would do so. Noctis is probably staying quiet to lead her targets into revealing themselves through their words or actions.

Look at what Dust did. Noctis wouldn't talk so he tried to fill that void.

That is one way Noctis can determine the intentions of any of the Bluebs, the Reds or the rebels.

If they don't know what side she is they may ASSume, she is on theirs and by speaking reveal themselves to her so she knows either to help/support them, or eliminate them.
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 1:12 PM edit delete reply

Staying quiet is one of her favorite tactics to unnerve people.
Lukkai 24th Feb 2016, 2:37 AM edit delete reply

At least Dust is more or less treating her as a person, even with the "Hey - Cassian!" opener.

Not something that can be said about the bluebs.

Also, Noctis just loves the effect a simple silent look can have, doesn't she. (^_^)
antrik 14th Oct 2016, 2:17 PM edit delete reply
Eh, that's not really treating her as a person. Especially since her name has been mentioned, so he could have addressed her properly, if he considered her a person.
sigpig 24th Feb 2016, 5:14 AM edit delete reply

Panel 3 - not even a single strand of her HAIR was damaged by that bullet...

Also, that's some Kenobi-levels of bullet-blocking...
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 1:12 PM edit delete reply

If a human can do it with something that is traveling at light speed then Noctis can do it with bullets :D
HiFranc 24th Feb 2016, 4:01 PM edit delete reply

Not exactly light speed. As they point out it's called a "blaster" not a "laser blaster".

{edit} I confess that I've been thinking about this scene (from about 1:45). Though, I've also thought about this take.
Greenwood Goat 24th Feb 2016, 6:39 AM edit delete reply
Canoi... didn't give much benefit of the doubt there, did he? In fact, it almost looked like he'd been wondering if he'd ever have the opportunity to fire on a cassian. Not that I'm suggesting that this is a huge surprise. The cassians are about as far from being "one of the boys" as it is possible to get, and I imagine that most people would have wondered if they would ever get to see them bleed or die.

Noctis: (thinks) I've often thought about what it might take to induce some of these "loyal" soldiers to attempt to kill me. Not that I am surprised. *kill* *kill* *kill* *break* *kill*
anonymous coward 24th Feb 2016, 3:16 PM edit delete reply
It's that darned prejudice against artificial people, probably with heaping side-order of misogyny.
jas 24th Feb 2016, 8:04 AM edit delete reply

Noctis has this kind of "Frankenstein's monster is about to destroy you" expression in the last frame. Quite terrifying. XD
Sheela 24th Feb 2016, 3:09 PM edit delete reply

I think it's more like a "Where's this Frankenstein person at ? I need to kill him." kinda look.

It's no less scary for that though. :D
Axmurders 24th Feb 2016, 8:25 AM edit delete reply
Why would you switch to hollow point rounds? If you really wanted damage, you'd switch to flechette ("shredder") rounds. Blue boys ain't got a chance.
Mark_L_A 24th Feb 2016, 9:39 AM edit delete reply

I think HP stands for High Power not Hollow Point.
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 10:17 AM edit delete reply

yeah HP rounds in DC are " Highpower Explosive rounds. " sometimes called HPE or just HP rounds :D
KarToon12 24th Feb 2016, 8:36 AM edit delete reply

Nobody told us she was channeling the Matrix! D:

XD

"...for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." King James Bible
Gilrandir 24th Feb 2016, 11:55 AM edit delete reply
And there, Timotheus, is your wasted motion, since she is spending time deflecting bullets which appear that they would miss anyway. ^_^

Apparently urine has a corrosive effect on Moonstone steel, so Noctis is doing her best to ensure the blueberries are empty of it before she begins to disembowel them.

Next time, instead of black armor with a see-through sword, can we have a black sword and see-through armor? ^_^
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 1:10 PM edit delete reply

But if she didn't deflect them they might hit someone behind her. Remember that.
Sheela 24th Feb 2016, 3:11 PM edit delete reply

Well, that's a fair point, though all the people behind her wear armor ... they'd probably survive.
Gilrandir 25th Feb 2016, 9:27 AM edit delete reply
I actually did consider that, CentComm. ^_^ And I can applaud Noctis for doing it. But unless we are certain that each round would otherwise have hit someone, it still qualifies (IMHO) as "wasted".
DLKmusic 25th Feb 2016, 6:05 PM edit delete reply

I would never consider a display of martial skill that would SO INTIMIDATE your opponent before you engage him "Wasted motion".

After all, she will spend much less energy actually delivering the killing blows if the NaziSmurfs are frozen in terror.
antrik 14th Oct 2016, 1:48 PM edit delete reply
LOL, NaziSmurfs :-)
Dragonrider 24th Feb 2016, 12:29 PM edit delete reply

HEY PEOPLE GET OUT THE VOTE STANDINGS ARE TANKING. To quote Boss Tweed of Tammany Hall, "Vote Early and Vote Often."

@Gilrandir I applaud your suggestion however there would be nothing to see Noctis Does Not have the "Fun Factory" option.
Centcomm 24th Feb 2016, 1:11 PM edit delete reply

Yea TWC is holding some kind of contest thats causing a massive surge in votes .. or bots. Not sure witch.
Sheela 24th Feb 2016, 3:12 PM edit delete reply

Oh ? And here I thought it was us being lazy ?
Or are we still getting the usual numbers of votes done ?
Wolfsbane 24th Feb 2016, 11:58 PM edit delete reply

It looks like the normal numbers to me, but I don't see month to month history. I guess it's the contest. Which witch is which, I'm not sure. :P
antrik 14th Oct 2016, 2:06 PM edit delete reply
Careful about making jokes of other's misspellings: the person might be dyslexic -- in which case it's rather cruel, as they can't help it; the joke will likely be lost on them; and you are essentially ridiculing them in public...
DLKmusic 25th Feb 2016, 6:11 PM edit delete reply

our votes are actually down by almost 1000 by this time last month... however, I would like to add that there are comics in the top 10 that were well below us last month, and are now ranking over 10 times what their end total was for the past 4 months running.

I don't mean to denigrate any comic or it's artists, but I tend to draw issue with unscrupulous fans, if that is what is happening.
anonymous coward 24th Feb 2016, 3:15 PM edit delete reply
Speaking o Tammany Hall, for those with either an organizational, historical or political interest in the subject might find something of rare value here: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2810?msg=welcome_stranger
Gilrandir 25th Feb 2016, 9:39 AM edit delete reply
{"@Gilrandir I applaud your suggestion however there would be nothing to see Noctis Does Not have the "Fun Factory" option."}

Thanks for the applause, @Timotheus. Permit me, however, to differ in the following ways:

1) People seem to be obsessing too much about the "fun factory". The most important "fun factory" (IMHO) is installed between the ears, not the legs.
2) Have you seen Noctis' silhouette? A state of shadowy reveal can only enhance the effect and fire the imagination -- in spite of the possible absence of a trivial detail or two. Just ask Quintus.
3) Leaving aside her individual charms and enticements, a figure as public and prestigious as Noctis might well start a fashion trend by example -- and who's going to argue with that? ^_^
Timotheus 25th Feb 2016, 12:01 PM edit delete reply

Um, in what way are you differing from my comments? I believe you've confused me with someone else. I'm the one discussing reasons for preferential slicing and dicing Praetorians over rebels.
Gilrandir 25th Feb 2016, 4:29 PM edit delete reply
And I even included your quote! <pout>

I was disagreeing with you that Noctis in see-through armor would offer "nothing to see". That is an experiment I would be willing to perform -- as long as I could be sure that Noctis wouldn't blame me for it. ^_^
Gilrandir 25th Feb 2016, 5:52 PM edit delete reply
My apologies @Timotheus. I looked at the poster's name six times and got it wrong every time. It was @Dragonrider's post. I hate it when I err that badly.
chk 25th Feb 2016, 11:46 AM edit delete reply

I've been wondering about that. What gives?
syddent 24th Feb 2016, 1:32 PM edit delete reply

I really need to question the captains powers of observation.
Floor littered with chopped up comrades.
Dangerous killing android holding weapons over said deceased.
Enemies conversing with dangerous killing android.

And the captain decides to shoot?!
Anyone that stupid really needs to filtered from the gene pool.

Very impressed with final cell. The motion is excellent
Steven-Vincent 24th Feb 2016, 3:23 PM edit delete reply

Someone did not put his brain inside his head before walking out the door to run ops this morning.

Who in his right mind taunts a cassian?
AnonLee 24th Feb 2016, 3:47 PM edit delete reply
He's not the first Nova Roma soldier stupid enough to insult a Cassian, but then he's not the first to die for it either...

Another question worth considering: did he start out as an idiot with delusions of grandeur before becoming a Praetorian, or does Deck give these promotions to people who remind him of himself?
HiFranc 24th Feb 2016, 3:56 PM edit delete reply

My understanding is that he hires people who enjoying killing, torture, etc, and are willing to do so on his orders.
antrik 14th Oct 2016, 2:09 PM edit delete reply
He will not die for insulting her. Noctis is not vindictive -- his insults have little import as to whether or not she kills him.
CptKerion 24th Feb 2016, 8:28 PM edit delete reply
So theory on why she is not telling anyone why she is slaughtering blueberries: she is through careful phrasing and thinking patterns and order interpretations circumventing a lot of the loyalty enforcement of that implant, and if she were to explain her reasons she might have to put it simply enough or directly enough that she might trip it.
Dragonrider 25th Feb 2016, 1:29 PM edit delete reply

Suggestion Cent, people could vote on their smart phones and komputers both.
Centcomm 25th Feb 2016, 2:52 PM edit delete reply

That they could! :D
Stormwind13 25th Feb 2016, 5:46 PM edit delete reply

Already do, Dragonrider. Can't compete with bots though.
Lukkai 25th Feb 2016, 8:17 PM edit delete reply

The VDSD might have catapulted a few comics up as well. If yes, we'll see the difference next month.
Sheela 25th Feb 2016, 8:27 PM edit delete reply

... I don't even have a smartphone, they are imcompatible with claws. :(
antrik 14th Oct 2016, 2:15 PM edit delete reply
That's not entirely true: newer capacitive touchscreens can often be set to a super sensitive setting, that registers almost anything, including fingernails/claws. Now whether your motor skills are good enough, is a separate issue :-)
