Rest In Peace, Well done thou good and faithful friend.

Edit Note: Acantha is discovering the path to adulthood and the throne is covered in bodies of those you loved and loved you. A lesson she will not forget.
Beltboy 13th May 2016, 4:17 AM edit delete reply
If only Dec could understand that a good leader is one people willing die for.
DLKmusic 12th May 2016, 9:04 PM edit delete reply

Ok, that just sucks... Arianna did this deliberately, with malice of forethought, thinking this was the best way she could help.

and it SUCKS!!!!

(not that we didn't see it coming, but still...)
Kitty 14th May 2016, 3:23 PM edit delete reply
It's not malice. That would be a negative emotion. Arianna's purpose is self-sacrifice, to save Acantha. She knows what she's doing, even to the loss of her own life. Brave, crazy and noble--more noble than Dec could ever be.
DLKmusic 14th May 2016, 11:40 PM edit delete reply

agreed about the self sacrifice, Kitty, although Malice towards Decimus is definitely part of the emotional equation here. Not that I blame her...
ohoyer 12th May 2016, 9:26 PM edit delete reply
R.I.P. Arianna *sniff* - but, to point out: Arianna was suffering from some degenerative disease - perhaps she considered her own life to be over in a foreseeable amount of time, so it was easier for her to sacrifice it...
Visvires 12th May 2016, 10:06 PM edit delete reply
It cost her less time, but I doubt that makes it easier to step in front of an inbound sword. Full points for bravery, there.
Stormwind13 13th May 2016, 4:34 AM edit delete reply

Agreed Visvires. Arianna bravely sacrificed herself to protect Acantha. There is a world of difference between thinking about something and stepping up to DO them when required!

Rest well Arianna, know that your place is assured at the table of brave warriors.
Dragonrider 12th May 2016, 10:48 PM edit delete reply

Another point she just lost the man she wanted babies by. She effectively saw no future for her, even with Douchie deposed and Max getting her medical treatment at Luna Med she had nothing to live for. Best to die for for someone she loves, that others may live.
Visvires 13th May 2016, 6:00 AM edit delete reply
"Well, that really hot guy I met earlier today died. Guess I've got nothing left to live for."
-Said no Datachasers character ever.
Tango Xray Actual 12th May 2016, 9:30 PM edit delete reply
Blow away his knees already! How about a round thru the brachial nerve bundles in the shoulders, one heavy hollow point does nicely. This ain't the movies, a round through the shoulder joint permanently incapacitates and can require amputation.

Dec be incapacitated in a less-than-lethal fashion, especially when you have androids that are a lot less bothered by accuracy reducing issues, like 'the shakes,' tunnel vision or raging adrenal hormones than humans.
Tango Xray Actual 12th May 2016, 9:36 PM edit delete reply
Not to mention dear little Lynn....

Lynn is in his blind spot and to the rear! Dec cannot even defend against an attack from that angle. Needn't be much! Thumb rammed into the ear canal for a socket to force against and then wrapping all the nails around into the eye socket, plunge and rake!
HiFranc 13th May 2016, 4:45 AM edit delete reply

If Lynn attacks, Acantha would react to protect her, Kali would react to protect Decimus and then Dolly would react to protect Lynn from the backlash.
mjkj 12th May 2016, 9:37 PM edit delete reply

Not Arianna... =(

Stormwind13 13th May 2016, 4:36 AM edit delete reply

Poor Arianna.

Visvires 12th May 2016, 10:00 PM edit delete reply
Malati, Democlus, and now Arianna. Going out with excessive levels of badass.

Now, if someone could please cripple that bastard, so the time she bought isn't wasted. It was kind of expensive. Shoot out his joints while he's rooted to his sword and trying to browbeat the mortally wounded. Less talk, more maim.
Wolfsbane 13th May 2016, 12:58 PM edit delete reply

Really! Does Lynn still have that candlestick around somewhere? It's time to clock him hard again! Three times if necessary to knock him out cold.
plymayer 12th May 2016, 10:49 PM edit delete reply

Now that she has hold of his "weapon" she's going to teach him a thing or two, before the end.
The Old Scribe 12th May 2016, 11:00 PM edit delete reply

Holy crap! She's an Android! Either that or she's been cybernetically enhanced. No human could still be functioning as she is after an injury like that. Realistically, going through the center of the torso like that, the blade's missed any vital organs unless it nicked a lung or hit her spine. Now if somebody will get off the pot and drop that bastard, she might still survive.
Tokyo Rose 12th May 2016, 11:18 PM edit delete reply

She's not drooling blood because she bit her tongue. Compromised lung.
Tango Xray Actual 12th May 2016, 11:38 PM edit delete reply
Compromised Lung... OK, low and left...
and as long as she refuses the sword's withdrawn, no pneumothorax, the lung will remain inflated and the lady has a chance.
Tango Xray Actual 12th May 2016, 11:31 PM edit delete reply
Actually no.... Volition can continue for as long as 15 seconds after the heart has sustained a fatal injury under certain circumstances- this is one of the reasons for using a double tap. I know of a least a couple of cases where a person was shot through the heart and did not loose consciousness or the ability to act for 10+ seconds.

Then there's the celebrated case of a Swiss from the Forest Cantons named Arnold von Winkelried. He was allegedly part of a group facing an Austrian spear formation at the battle of Sempach that was formed shoulder to shoulder but had to be broken. This was impossible unless a hole could be opened in the line.

Von Winkelried is said to have rushed the line, arms wide, gathering at least ten to twelve or more spear points into his arms and thrust his body onto them while yelling "Make Way for Liberty." He continued to run up the spears forcing them through his body and out his back, locking them into position together through his body, thereby opening a large local gap in the Austrian defensive formation.

The rest of his combat group surged through the openings he had forced in the Austrian line with his life and won the day.
Lukkai 14th May 2016, 8:33 PM edit delete reply

As a Swiss, I can't help but mention that there's a very bad joke about that story, claiming that Winkelried's last words were actually "Hey, who pushed me?"

We do tell the joke with a good amount of pride in his actions though. ;)
Mark_L_A 12th May 2016, 11:42 PM edit delete reply

I was a medic in the Army and one of the training cases we had was of a soldier who had been shot through the heart still had life to grab a grenade and pull it into his chest to save his fellows almost 10 seconds after being shot.

From where it looks like Arianna was stabbed it missed the inferior vena cava, just barely, but hit her right lung and possibly the esophagus.

If she has her adrenaline levels up she could be able to function for about 20-30 seconds before her brain doesn't have enough oxygenated blood flow to keep working.
Sheela 13th May 2016, 6:50 AM edit delete reply

Even so, she has two lungs, so while she would pass out, she might survive.
Though the chance is slim.
Lukkai 14th May 2016, 8:34 PM edit delete reply

Immediate medical attention would certainly be necessary even in a best case scenario for her to survive this.
Gilrandir 13th May 2016, 12:00 AM edit delete reply
Does anyone wonder how many times Maxus had Arianna practice that maneuver until she could do it perfectly every time? ^_^ That's dedication, that is.
Visvires 13th May 2016, 6:19 AM edit delete reply
It doesn't look like a technically difficult maneuver. You step between the attacker and the person you want to protect, you ignore your instinct to dodge, and grab on with a rather literal death grip. Bravery is required in great measure. Skill, not so much. Accordingly, the training would be cognitive, not physical.
Just_IDD 13th May 2016, 1:55 AM edit delete reply
I guess this is confirmation that she moved Democlus' body after charging Dolly with Acantha's protection. Finding him dead made her hopeless and hiding. However with this act she redeems herself and earns a right to sit at Mars's table with Democlus by her side for all eternity.
StellarJay 13th May 2016, 2:13 AM edit delete reply

Unless Arianna had the codes to open doors, there were some number of closed doors that Dolly had to open between finding Arianna in a closet and meeting Decimus and Kali.
StellarJay 13th May 2016, 2:11 AM edit delete reply

Now that Arianna has bought some time for Acantha to act, what will be done in these precious seconds? I really hope is much more than stand there saying "why, Ari, why?".
Stormwind13 13th May 2016, 2:14 PM edit delete reply

As composed as Acantha is Jay, she STILL is only 16. And she doesn't have combat experience I fear, so that level of violence could freeze her. I wouldn't be surprised by that, unfortunately.
Lukkai 14th May 2016, 8:37 PM edit delete reply

It could also send her into a fit of rage, ignoring rational thought and any contingencies while being in it. Dangerous combination if we remember the capabilities of her sidearm.

And who knows just how, after all her ordeal so far, Lynn will react?
Matt Knab 13th May 2016, 3:14 AM edit delete reply

Or what? You'll kill her? I think she'd much rather go out by making you a sitting duck...
Visvires 13th May 2016, 6:28 AM edit delete reply
I had the exact same thought. It's in character, however. He's incapable of properly comprehending unfavorable reality. The notion that he has just rendered her beyond further sanction (her family, as far as we know, is dead, and she won't live long enough to be tortured) and thus beyond verbal control is quite beyond him.
Stormwind13 13th May 2016, 4:57 AM edit delete reply

That is a critical wound for sure; however, it can be survived. I've heard stories of battlefield injuries where people survived HOURS with bullets through a lung. They got a pressure bandage and were medevac-ed about an hour later. Arianna's odds go down every minute that goes by, but she isn't dead... yet. Though her existing medical condition complicates things in an unknown manner.
Visvires 13th May 2016, 6:05 AM edit delete reply
Bullets are a bit thinner. When that sword comes out, it'll stop plugging the wound. It's going to be hard to slap a pressure bandage on that hole. Blood loss, critical blood pressure drop, unconsciousness, death. Maybe if they had her in an operating theater and a LOT of transfusions on hand...but in a hallway, in the middle of a battle?
Sheela 13th May 2016, 6:52 AM edit delete reply

Yes, well, Ada and TeeDee might be real close, they've been following Lynn for a while now.
And lets not forget that Ada is wielding a medical gun, but still.
And she has access to 38th century medical stuff.
mjkj 13th May 2016, 8:18 AM edit delete reply

...and do not forget Teedee, Sheela, her and Ada were a team, so both can help - let us just hope that they will arrive in time...
Stormwind13 13th May 2016, 7:20 AM edit delete reply

Agreed Visvires. If Arianna can keep the sword where it is, her chances are better. Once it is pulled out, blood loss will become a huge concern.
Visvires 13th May 2016, 9:24 AM edit delete reply
Ah, yes. I forgot Ada. We have seen her stabilize some absurd wounds. Mobile hospital, that woman.
Tango Xray Actual 14th May 2016, 4:17 PM edit delete reply
OK there is something about sword wounds that many people do not realize - they are self-sealing.

If you stab someone with a straight knife or dagger that is not serrated, the wound will close on withdrawal after the insult.

This lead to the wicked triangular bayonets with concave sides in particular as the three-sided cut would not close upon withdrawal. Examples would be the folding spike bayonets found on the AK-47 of many Russian, Chi-Com and SovBloc arms manufactures. Or the folding bayonet on the Carcano M1891 carbine
Timotheus 14th May 2016, 3:50 AM edit delete reply

If the sternum and spinal cord have been missed, no major blood vessels were cut, and the sword is left in to staunch the opening, the wound could be survivable if relatively prompt severe trauma treatment can be brought to bear. But that's a lot of conditions.
Sheela 14th May 2016, 2:13 PM edit delete reply

Yes it is.
But it is within the realm of possibility.
KarToon12 13th May 2016, 6:52 AM edit delete reply

You know you're hard core when you can carry on a conversation with a sword in your chest.
Stormwind13 13th May 2016, 7:36 AM edit delete reply

Good point KarToon. Arianna was FAR stronger than she gave herself credit for!
Lukkai 14th May 2016, 8:40 PM edit delete reply

Granted: Due to the adrenaline rush, she's probably higher than the orbit of Luna main base right now.
Haegan2005 13th May 2016, 9:27 AM edit delete reply

Ouch. Ya'll need to remember that if a character is not central to the cast they often become star trek red shirts.

Further more, the devious duo have no issues having a beloved character die to make us REALLY dislike some body.

Having said all that, I have no idea how this is going to pan out, other then what has been said by Cent and Rose previously.

Which is not a Dang thing. :(

Sheela, Cents slippers are over there!

Now where did my slippers go?
Visvires 13th May 2016, 1:56 PM edit delete reply
But we already hate Decimus. Hate saturation is at 100%. Hate capacitors are at capacity. Hate drives are redlined. Hatesinks are overhated. Hateships have all sailed. We've long since cried hate and let slip our poodle of war. The hate mines are depleted. The hate reservoirs and hate wells are dry. The hate depot is out of inventory. Hate meters have pinged 11 and cracked. We are long off the hate charts. Lines of credit with various hate groups have been exhausted; they will not loan us more hate. All hatemongers have closed up shop. We simply don't have any more hate to direct at him.

We may be able to refine some spiders for more Nope, however.

Why hello thar!
Say, would you like to buy some slippers ?

Sheela, stop talking to the mirror. It's weird.

Side note, I think everyone saw Glory to the Brave coming at this point.
CptKerion 13th May 2016, 8:31 PM edit delete reply
There is a certain perfection about how Cent managed to capture Arianna's facial expression. A final, dying valiance, shrugging pain of body and mind off in the name of duty, as another would shrug off a cloak. This certain ultimate finality to it, and to some extent, a knowledge that she just ensured his ultimate undoing in the name of duty.
Aurora 13th May 2016, 9:13 PM edit delete reply
And now a tribute to Arianna in her native tongue:

Requiescat in pace, fidelis servum... Tui sacrificium in semper memoriam.

Rest in peace, faithful servant... Your sacrifice shall be remembered.
CptKerion 13th May 2016, 10:51 PM edit delete reply
Tua in memoriam semper tenibus.
In memory we will always hold you.
Para Nova Roma, in gloriam maximam.
For new Rome, in highest glory.
Memoriam tuae tenibus.
Your memory we will hold.

(literally best glory, but highest is while less literally accurate is more accurate to the meaning)
I do apologize for any slips in latin grammar, it has been some time since I took my last latin course.
DLKmusic 15th May 2016, 12:02 AM edit delete reply

For dusty Latin, that's pretty damn good, actually!

Tua in memoriam semper tenebimus
Para Nova Roma, gloria in excelsis
Memoriam tuae tenebimus

(in fairness, I'm not brilliant, I cheated on that, lol)
