A dying persons curse, seldom has it been more dramatically represented than this.
Dammit Acantha, get your head out of your arse, she bought you time, use it kneecap Douchie. Then see if you can put a bullet in Kali's Brain Box take the heat off Dolly.
Fortunately, Arianna didn't leave it up to Lynn and Acantha to follow through. Decimus is now disarmed, completely. Arianna and Lynn, between the two of them, should be a physical match. I don't know what Decimus is doing while these last words are going down, but it can most likely wait. Wednesday should be subdue Decimus day - unless Dolly loses to Kali by that time.
I'm not as convinced of that as you are Visvires. Douchimus is considerably larger than Lynn or Acantha (looking at the cast page). Plus he has trained (to some degree) with Maxus. Finally Douchimus is PRONE to violence whereas the girls reluctantly go there if they can't talk to someone. Despite there being two of them, I think Douchimus might have a distinct advantage. Especially since he no longer seems concerned about keeping them alive.
Unfortunately I think Dek is far from being disarmed. He was carrying not just his sword, but also small sidearm and something what appears to be knife or dagger (both visible in earlier strips).
Deck is bigger and stronger than Acantha or Lynn. He also HAS hand to hand training. Far more of it than Acantha does or Lynn. In a flat out fight it could take one or both of them.
I don't think that they will be alone for much longer. One of the previous strips it looked like someone was cutting through the door behind Douchimus, and if so hopefully it's a friendly behind the door.
I think that's just the "Lock Engaged" light, and not (for example) the glow of a cutting torch burning through the door, @Voll3. Also, anyone coming along the path from the palace that Decimus and Kali took would have no need to cut through anything -- that having been taken care of for them already.
I have withheld for a while, out of respect, because. I agree that the scene with Arianna has been moving and touching. But seeing all these Latin tributes to her has inspired me to dust off my own Schoolbook Latin on her behalf:
By the way, for other Latin buffs out there who may not have previously had the joy of this link ("Caesar in Cowardly Couplets"), it is not to be missed.
From Glory to the Brave by Hammerfall
"Snow is falling down on this glorious land
colors fading, turning into white again
To fallen heroes angels sing, they cry their winter tears
endless mourning days will turn to years
So this is goodbye, I take leave of you and
spread your wings and you will fly away now, fly away
now
Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave
Every solemn moment I will treasure inside
even though it's hard to understand
that a silent wind can blow that candle out
taking everything leaving the pain far behind
You call out my name, but your voice is fading
into the wind, embraced, you'll fly away now, fly away
now
Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave
My eyes are closed I feel you're faraway (so close)
far beyond that shining star
I know you'll find what you've been fighting for
far beyond that shining star
Down on bended knee I pray, bring courage to these
souls
make'em live forever in the heart of the bold
So I say farewell my friends, I hope we'll meet again
when my time has come to fall from the grace
So this is goodbye, I take leave of you and
spread your wings and you will fly away now, fly away
now" -Glory to the Brave by Hammerfall
Have a feeling one of them, probably Lynn is gonna ram that sword somewhere Douchiemas won't like. Hopefully Kali's thoughts from the dinner that started this mess, about Acantha ordering her to not kill Douchie's killer will work.
... we are doing things in my name now ? :D
Allrighty then, bring me one of his kneecaps and ten Giant Rat tails and I shall stop The Slobbering from happening!
Out of all the deaths this story has shown us, this has hit the hardest, and been the hardest to mentaly accept. This was as Hari Sheldon at the end of First Foundation. That which is so full of life and spirit, suddenly is overflowing with neither. Both had their ends writ large, aforehand which only tears at the breast with clutching fingers more firmly wrapped around the heart strings of many.
Arrianna represented the hopes and dreams of the everyday Nova Roam citizens. They wanted better, they didn't know exactly what they wanted but they knew it existed and that Acantha was the one who could deliver it.
Arianna wasn't even a citizen - she was a slave. If they are following the customs of old Rome, a slave is not considered a citizen, even being freed didn't automatically make them one. So I hope that when Acantha takes the reins (because I know it's got to happen, eventually!) she will consider dismantling the system of slavery.
New Rome doesn't entirely follow the customs of old Rome; a freed slave automatically obtains all of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
Why would Acantha dismantle the system of slavery? It's been a long-standing, integral part of the society in which she's grown up. She definitely wants to revise the standing codes of law and enforce them more strictly, though.
Rose would object to giving him the time off. She is going to work his a$$ OFF for that stupid sh!t stunt he pulled. Kyle will REGRET that for years to come.
Arianna was as close to a friend and sister as Acantha could find (before Lynn showed up). She was protected by Maxus, so Douchimus couldn't do away with her as he did to others that tried to get close to her. Acantha was just letting her know in the final moment how truly important Arianna was to her.
Not adopted; the tradition in Nova Roma is for a freed slave to be given a surname that reflects the given name of the person who granted them freedom. The construction is more or less "X, freed by Y", and the actual form of the new surname is up to the emancipator. Thus we have "Maxus Valerius", "Irene Maxia", and here, "Arianna Acanthia".
Also true for real Rome, but in real Rome when you freed a slave they also became part of your family in an extended sense and were formally adopted in.
hey... in Arianna's first appearance - http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/736 - isn't it an interesting foreshadowing that she says that 'even a sacrifice can pay off'?
Hypothetically you can strike fire using a wet match on a wet bar of soap. You gotta built up one hella lot of friction BUT, hypothetically it's possible.

Poor Ari, at least she died a free person.
... we are doing things in my name now ? :D
Allrighty then, bring me one of his kneecaps and ten Giant Rat tails and I shall stop The Slobbering from happening!
The Slobbering shall begin, as soon as I find out where my sycophant has hidden.
Meanwhile I have a crack team in the field, or maybe it's a team on crack in the left field ... not sure which one it is.
Anyways, they are very skilled, and have trained very hard to make The Slobbering happen .. again and again and again!!

And well said indeed, Dragonrider.
I just hope that Ada and TeeDee will arrive soon enough to save her...
Before he can cause more damage!
Rest in Peace. Arianna Acantha.
How far out have you two been planning this?
Evil Duo, indeed...
He might more accurately be described (in your words) as "a festering dickstain"
