She got the disarm off, too. What a wonderful way to make him recoil.
Stormwind13 16th May 2016, 8:28 AM edit delete reply

Defiant to the end. Goodbye Arianna, your spirit will be missed.
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:05 PM edit delete reply

It was the best thing she could think of to stop him from hitting her.
Dragonrider 15th May 2016, 9:06 PM edit delete reply

A dying persons curse, seldom has it been more dramatically represented than this.

Dammit Acantha, get your head out of your arse, she bought you time, use it kneecap Douchie. Then see if you can put a bullet in Kali's Brain Box take the heat off Dolly.
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:30 PM edit delete reply

Acantha is a bit upset at the moment.

"To the last, I grapple with thee; From Hell's heart, I stab at thee; For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee."
Wolfsbane 15th May 2016, 10:30 PM edit delete reply

I cannot think of a better quote for today, Mark. Glory to your name, Arianna.
Tango Xray Actual 15th May 2016, 11:48 PM edit delete reply
lITERALLY!
Sheela 16th May 2016, 5:36 AM edit delete reply

Quite the fitting quote.
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:30 PM edit delete reply

That was actually in one version of the protoscript i wrote. >_< I changed it.
ProfEtheric 15th May 2016, 9:19 PM edit delete reply

Disable douchewad tyrant now, cry later! DO NOT LET ARIANNA DIE IN VAIN!
Visvires 15th May 2016, 9:38 PM edit delete reply
Fortunately, Arianna didn't leave it up to Lynn and Acantha to follow through. Decimus is now disarmed, completely. Arianna and Lynn, between the two of them, should be a physical match. I don't know what Decimus is doing while these last words are going down, but it can most likely wait. Wednesday should be subdue Decimus day - unless Dolly loses to Kali by that time.
Stormwind13 16th May 2016, 10:03 AM edit delete reply

I'm not as convinced of that as you are Visvires. Douchimus is considerably larger than Lynn or Acantha (looking at the cast page). Plus he has trained (to some degree) with Maxus. Finally Douchimus is PRONE to violence whereas the girls reluctantly go there if they can't talk to someone. Despite there being two of them, I think Douchimus might have a distinct advantage. Especially since he no longer seems concerned about keeping them alive.
Shpenat 16th May 2016, 1:55 PM edit delete reply
Unfortunately I think Dek is far from being disarmed. He was carrying not just his sword, but also small sidearm and something what appears to be knife or dagger (both visible in earlier strips).
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:32 PM edit delete reply

Deck is bigger and stronger than Acantha or Lynn. He also HAS hand to hand training. Far more of it than Acantha does or Lynn. In a flat out fight it could take one or both of them.
Voll3 16th May 2016, 1:24 PM edit delete reply
I don't think that they will be alone for much longer. One of the previous strips it looked like someone was cutting through the door behind Douchimus, and if so hopefully it's a friendly behind the door.
Gilrandir 16th May 2016, 1:43 PM edit delete reply
I think that's just the "Lock Engaged" light, and not (for example) the glow of a cutting torch burning through the door, @Voll3. Also, anyone coming along the path from the palace that Decimus and Kali took would have no need to cut through anything -- that having been taken care of for them already.

I have withheld for a while, out of respect, because. I agree that the scene with Arianna has been moving and touching. But seeing all these Latin tributes to her has inspired me to dust off my own Schoolbook Latin on her behalf:

Arianna est omnis divisa.. :(
CptKerion 16th May 2016, 1:49 PM edit delete reply
Lock Engaged lights don't smoke.
Gilrandir 16th May 2016, 1:55 PM edit delete reply
I went back and looked a couple of times. If there's smoke somewhere in the corridor behind Decimus, I am missing it. But that's certainly possible.
Gilrandir 16th May 2016, 1:58 PM edit delete reply
By the way, for other Latin buffs out there who may not have previously had the joy of this link ("Caesar in Cowardly Couplets"), it is not to be missed.

What Dragonrider, Mark_L_A and ProfEtheric Said!!!

Gloriam nomini tuo Arianna!
Glory to your name!

Yep.. so very agreed

From Glory to the Brave by Hammerfall
"Snow is falling down on this glorious land
colors fading, turning into white again
To fallen heroes angels sing, they cry their winter tears
endless mourning days will turn to years

So this is goodbye, I take leave of you and
spread your wings and you will fly away now, fly away
now

Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave

Every solemn moment I will treasure inside
even though it's hard to understand
that a silent wind can blow that candle out
taking everything leaving the pain far behind

You call out my name, but your voice is fading
into the wind, embraced, you'll fly away now, fly away
now

Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave

My eyes are closed I feel you're faraway (so close)
far beyond that shining star
I know you'll find what you've been fighting for
far beyond that shining star

Down on bended knee I pray, bring courage to these
souls
make'em live forever in the heart of the bold
So I say farewell my friends, I hope we'll meet again
when my time has come to fall from the grace

So this is goodbye, I take leave of you and
spread your wings and you will fly away now, fly away
now"

Wow very touching CptKerion.. My personal choice is the music from gladiator
The Old Scribe 15th May 2016, 9:53 PM edit delete reply

Okay, NOW will one of you kneecap that fucker!? Better yet, shoot his knees and elbows. Make the bastard writhe in agony.

Poor Ari, at least she died a free person.
Haegan2005 15th May 2016, 9:57 PM edit delete reply

kneecap him three times. The last one for Sheela.
Dragonrider 15th May 2016, 11:41 PM edit delete reply

Have a feeling one of them, probably Lynn is gonna ram that sword somewhere Douchiemas won't like. Hopefully Kali's thoughts from the dinner that started this mess, about Acantha ordering her to not kill Douchie's killer will work.
Sheela 16th May 2016, 5:39 AM edit delete reply

"The last one for Sheela?"

... we are doing things in my name now ? :D
Allrighty then, bring me one of his kneecaps and ten Giant Rat tails and I shall stop The Slobbering from happening!
DLKmusic 16th May 2016, 5:55 PM edit delete reply

@Sheela: No you won't...
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:36 PM edit delete reply

That she did. Although to Arianna did not mind over much. THe best honor to that was being given Acantha's name in honor of that freedom.
Sheela 17th May 2016, 9:31 AM edit delete reply

I have not been appeased !
The Slobbering shall begin, as soon as I find out where my sycophant has hidden.
Meanwhile I have a crack team in the field, or maybe it's a team on crack in the left field ... not sure which one it is.
Anyways, they are very skilled, and have trained very hard to make The Slobbering happen .. again and again and again!!

Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:36 PM edit delete reply

Yeah that sums it up nicely!
Just_IDD 15th May 2016, 11:15 PM edit delete reply
Out of all the deaths this story has shown us, this has hit the hardest, and been the hardest to mentaly accept. This was as Hari Sheldon at the end of First Foundation. That which is so full of life and spirit, suddenly is overflowing with neither. Both had their ends writ large, aforehand which only tears at the breast with clutching fingers more firmly wrapped around the heart strings of many.
Dragonrider 15th May 2016, 11:36 PM edit delete reply

Arrianna represented the hopes and dreams of the everyday Nova Roam citizens. They wanted better, they didn't know exactly what they wanted but they knew it existed and that Acantha was the one who could deliver it.
mjkj 15th May 2016, 11:50 PM edit delete reply

Well said, Dragonrider
Kitty 16th May 2016, 5:30 PM edit delete reply
Arianna wasn't even a citizen - she was a slave. If they are following the customs of old Rome, a slave is not considered a citizen, even being freed didn't automatically make them one. So I hope that when Acantha takes the reins (because I know it's got to happen, eventually!) she will consider dismantling the system of slavery.
Tokyo Rose 17th May 2016, 4:36 PM edit delete reply

@Kitty

New Rome doesn't entirely follow the customs of old Rome; a freed slave automatically obtains all of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

Why would Acantha dismantle the system of slavery? It's been a long-standing, integral part of the society in which she's grown up. She definitely wants to revise the standing codes of law and enforce them more strictly, though.
Stormwind13 16th May 2016, 3:02 AM edit delete reply

Agreed Just_IDD.

And well said indeed, Dragonrider.
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:37 PM edit delete reply

That makes me feel very happy. I dunno why but it does.
mjkj 15th May 2016, 11:45 PM edit delete reply

Awwwwww... *sniff*

I just hope that Ada and TeeDee will arrive soon enough to save her...

Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:38 PM edit delete reply

They are coming as fast as they can.. They are already locked onto Lynns Bio chip.
Timotheus 15th May 2016, 11:46 PM edit delete reply

Even the words of "O Fortuna" fit what's been going on here. But I bow to majority opinion. (puts on "Scheming Weasel")
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:38 PM edit delete reply

Hehe I love hearing what music you guys listen to!

Heh.. :D
Matt Knab 16th May 2016, 3:15 AM edit delete reply

Just don't waste her sacrifice by standing around to long!
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:42 PM edit delete reply

Well to be fair this is the FIRST time Lynn has seen someone actually die in front of her. And Acantha .. well you will see...
Stormwind13 16th May 2016, 3:10 PM edit delete reply

SECOND... though Kyle didn't STAY dead. :-D
Sheela 17th May 2016, 9:37 AM edit delete reply

Can we kill him again though ? :)
Stormwind13 17th May 2016, 7:52 PM edit delete reply

Rose would object to giving him the time off. She is going to work his a$$ OFF for that stupid sh!t stunt he pulled. Kyle will REGRET that for years to come.
sigpig 16th May 2016, 4:25 AM edit delete reply

Emancipated AND adopted in the same speech-bubble!
Stormwind13 16th May 2016, 5:14 AM edit delete reply

Arianna was as close to a friend and sister as Acantha could find (before Lynn showed up). She was protected by Maxus, so Douchimus couldn't do away with her as he did to others that tried to get close to her. Acantha was just letting her know in the final moment how truly important Arianna was to her.
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:41 PM edit delete reply

Pretty much what Stormwind said there.
Tokyo Rose 16th May 2016, 3:17 PM edit delete reply

Not adopted; the tradition in Nova Roma is for a freed slave to be given a surname that reflects the given name of the person who granted them freedom. The construction is more or less "X, freed by Y", and the actual form of the new surname is up to the emancipator. Thus we have "Maxus Valerius", "Irene Maxia", and here, "Arianna Acanthia".
CptKerion 16th May 2016, 7:35 PM edit delete reply
Also true for real Rome, but in real Rome when you freed a slave they also became part of your family in an extended sense and were formally adopted in.
chk 16th May 2016, 9:08 AM edit delete reply

Oh gods and goddess indeed.

Rest in Peace. Arianna Acantha.
Centcomm 16th May 2016, 12:42 PM edit delete reply

* bows head. * Agreed.
Guest 16th May 2016, 1:55 PM edit delete reply
hey... in Arianna's first appearance - http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/736 - isn't it an interesting foreshadowing that she says that 'even a sacrifice can pay off'?

How far out have you two been planning this?

Evil Duo, indeed...
Wolfsbane 16th May 2016, 2:02 PM edit delete reply

now it's my turn to forget to login before posting.
Stormwind13 16th May 2016, 2:59 PM edit delete reply

They started planning on being EVIL years ago! And added layers to their evil plots as the years have gone by.
Tokyo Rose 16th May 2016, 3:26 PM edit delete reply

I fucking love it when someone looks back from the current page and pinpoints a bit of foreshadowing. :)
KarToon12 16th May 2016, 2:13 PM edit delete reply

I REALLY hope Douchimus doesn't try anything right now, or I'm jumping into the panel myself and kicking ass.
Stormwind13 16th May 2016, 3:11 PM edit delete reply

Go KarToon!!! ::Gives over a Douchimus beating stick, Mark 50:: :-D
Tokyo Rose 16th May 2016, 3:27 PM edit delete reply

What if he tries to stop being a skidmark on the shorts of Humanity? I mean, hypothetically.
Dragonrider 16th May 2016, 4:06 PM edit delete reply

Hypothetically you can strike fire using a wet match on a wet bar of soap. You gotta built up one hella lot of friction BUT, hypothetically it's possible.
DLKmusic 16th May 2016, 6:00 PM edit delete reply

Rose, I'm surprised at you... he was NEVER a skidmark on the shorts of humanity, and please stop insulting those who are!!!!

He might more accurately be described (in your words) as "a festering dickstain"
CptKerion 17th May 2016, 12:58 PM edit delete reply
Now, now. Let's not be unkind to festering dickstains. He is Douchimus.
