Never Fear ADA is here with her magic Med Box and her ELITE Skillz!!
Sheela 6th Jun 2016, 6:31 AM edit delete reply

And a tranquilizer gun running a TeeDee Mk II personality seed on it. :D
Edgewise 6th Jun 2016, 3:18 PM edit delete reply
Oh ... so THAT'S what they're going to do.
Thomas 6th Jun 2016, 7:41 AM edit delete reply
You didn't say 1337. I am disappointed.
Visvires 6th Jun 2016, 10:04 AM edit delete reply
Tranquilizer gun? With TeeDee's personality? That would be one very depressed self aware sidearm.
Sheela 6th Jun 2016, 11:08 AM edit delete reply

Not really, it enjoys shooting TeeDee with tranq darts, just to annoy her.
It amuses it greatly. :)
Mark_L_A 6th Jun 2016, 4:06 PM edit delete reply

Med Skillz not Hackerz!! :p
jamie59 5th Jun 2016, 9:03 PM edit delete reply

Well something is looking up finely!
Dragonrider 5th Jun 2016, 9:06 PM edit delete reply

One can only hope they are in time also lets hope that someone or some Black Angel was able to stop the Armageddon Option. (If not then armageddon outta here.}
Wolfsbane 5th Jun 2016, 10:29 PM edit delete reply

ba-dum. Tish!

(He's here all week folks, be sure to stop by again and please tip the waiters.)
Just_IDD 6th Jun 2016, 6:08 AM edit delete reply
I like 15 or 20 degrees. More than that and most of them fall over.
Dragonrider 6th Jun 2016, 6:42 AM edit delete reply

Too Kind~Too Kind, but Thank You, show at 9 pictures at 11.
The Old Scribe 5th Jun 2016, 9:10 PM edit delete reply

Better late than never, ladies. I dunno if Ada's medkit can help Acantha at this stage of the game. She appears to have bled out.

That's a cool effect of Kali's 'skeleton' with its internals still on fire.

Who remembers the first 'Terminator'? It's kinda like that, only not moving.
Sheela 6th Jun 2016, 6:32 AM edit delete reply

Ada carries an advanced 38'th century medikit ... it ought to be good.
Timotheus 7th Jun 2016, 12:14 AM edit delete reply

I bet it has all four sizes of band-aids in it. And those scissors that can't cut anything.
TheSkulker 5th Jun 2016, 9:14 PM edit delete reply

ADA to the rescue!

It looks like Lynn had the good sense to not pull the knife out of Acantha's chest which is a good thing. However, moving her while the knife was embedded may not have been wise.

Whose skeleton is that in panel three?

Any bets on how much time they have to shut down the contingencies?
Tokyo Rose 5th Jun 2016, 9:28 PM edit delete reply

Decimus's skeleton is the more visible, the one with the skull tilted back. Kali's slumped forward into his chest; that's her arm visible near the bottom of the panel.
Morituri 5th Jun 2016, 9:46 PM edit delete reply
I was thinking it had too many teeth to be Deck's skull, but - process of elimination, right? It's the one that's on top of a human-looking skeleton, and the human-form mechanical frame there can only be Kali, so... Deck.
The Old Scribe 5th Jun 2016, 9:30 PM edit delete reply

That's Kali's 'skeleton'. That's not a human 'skull' or spine or junction with the 'skull'.
Gilrandir 5th Jun 2016, 9:51 PM edit delete reply
First, @The Old Scribe, telling the creatrix what is and isn't in their own creation is ... bold (in my opinion). Let me know how that works out for you. ^_^

Second, @Tokyo Rose, I believe you completely and implicitly. I can certainly see the distinction between the intact human skeleton and the very different mechanical armature we can presume was part of the Cassian skeleton.

However, if you didn't want to give your artistic license quite such a workout, you might have wanted to make the human bones a bit more ... carbon-colored. They look to me to be very close, color-wise, to the metal bits. And you might have wanted to rethink the INTACT rib cage, when you just got done telling us that Kali's hug busted several bones in Decimus'thoracic cavity and/or spine. ^_^ I was imagining she had more or less crushed his entire trunk, Far too many of those ribs look intact for this particular situation -- but I can also understand why, for effect, you would go this route. Not to mention that if the flesh was really vaporized to that degree, the connective tissue should be gone as well, and the bones be in a heap, rather than a skeleton. (Just my uninformed opinion.)
Tokyo Rose 6th Jun 2016, 2:54 AM edit delete reply

Limitations imposed by the models are in play again; if the model doesn't have an option for broken bones, making it look that way is mighty hard...
TheSkulker 6th Jun 2016, 3:42 AM edit delete reply

The evil duo is getting very good mileage out of their artistic license. It seems that their forte is history, psychology, social/human interactions, and unbounded creativity rather than the physical sciences. But even there they have done a lot of homework and bang-up job in creating a world that is pretty much self consistent and believable.

There are a number of things in this mini-arc that don't pass muster from a physics review but are probably necessary to move the story along. However, they could be tweaked to make them more realistic.

First and foremost is the idea of a fusion battery. That is an oxymoron. Fusion is a process; batteries are for storage. Postulating a fusion power cell would make sense but not a battery. Even improving the power density of current batteries a thousandfold would not enable powering a Cassian for more than a day or two. And then they have to be recharged. I don't recall any canon about recharging (but then I don't recall a lot of things).

But you could go wild with a controlled fusion power cell. The fuel required to power a Cassian (or, for that matter, any android), for hundreds of years is relatively miniscule.

The fusion process brings up a problem with the self destruct: if it is triggering an uncontrolled fusion process than the safe radius would be measured in miles not feet. Even a non-fusion self destruct could damage the fusion controls leading to a runaway fusion reaction.

All in all, though, I give the duo a pass for these problems. The twists and turns, the skill in holding us on the edge of our seats (for weeks on end!), the depth and complexity of the story make them minor static noise in our sojourn through their imagination.
Centcomm 6th Jun 2016, 8:58 AM edit delete reply

I did the research on cremation and burning and surprisingly the human body doesn't always fall apart. Several factors also have a say in what happens contraction of muscles and skin do cause the body to curl up but it takes a LOT of heat to destroy cartilage and bone. and even then cartilage turns to carbon and can support the rib cage until disturbed. I did make hgis jaw fall off. And I wasn't able to remove the two upper incisors the way i wanted.

But yeah I do the best I can with the medium :D

As for fusion battery's and stuff like that ill simply point at Star trek and fallout and many many others that use more than a bit of hand-waving for plot. We do try our best though :D and try to keep the universe consistent.

Tokyo Rose 7th Jun 2016, 12:25 AM edit delete reply

Oh yeah. Ohohohoho yeeeah.
Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 1:54 PM edit delete reply

Okay, now I really pity any Blues that show up.

Of course now I wonder just how SDI fit rose and cent really are. After all it's the red shirts that are supposed to die, not the other uniform colors!

Mark_L_A 5th Jun 2016, 9:21 PM edit delete reply

Wait, where's TeeDee's PPI Cannon and her rifle? And that doesn't look like Ada's regular Heavy Stun

ETA: Alt-Text Yes, yes it is.
Timotheus 5th Jun 2016, 9:28 PM edit delete reply

What's needed is a stasis rig. I think Ada had a field unit in her shiny new med kit back when she was pre-checking it, but I'm not sure.
sigpig 6th Jun 2016, 9:12 AM edit delete reply

Chekhov's stasis rig?
Wolfsbane 6th Jun 2016, 10:44 PM edit delete reply

McCoy's or the EMH's, Take your pick.
Gilrandir 5th Jun 2016, 9:33 PM edit delete reply
Well, Kali was right ... her capacitors really won't ever be the same.

I would like to know why any of the doors TeeDee and Ada came across were closed. And, if she's going to be commenting anyway, you'd think TeeDee would make note of the fact that several were _cut open_. And possibly the fact that Lynn seems to have evolved the capability to chew through durasteel (as far as they know). ^_^
Tokyo Rose 6th Jun 2016, 2:58 AM edit delete reply

Someone was sure to comment on the fact that there's a closed door visible behind them in the first panel. The out-of-universe reason is the limitations of the set; in-universe, some of the doors had enough power to slide shut again (though not to lock) after Kali was finished opening them.
Steven-Vincent 6th Jun 2016, 4:50 AM edit delete reply

I have hit this problem so many times already and I've done like 1% as many scenes as you guys.

There are so many limitations imposed by 3D models it is infuriating sometimes.

That said, I had just assumed the door slid back shut... most modern auto-doors do that already so I would expect them to in the future too.
Gilrandir 6th Jun 2016, 8:14 AM edit delete reply
Ah! I knew about the out-of-universe explanation, but I hadn't heard the in-universe one. In my mind's eye I was just editing the picture to have the doors all be open. In the same way I'll be editing the rib cage, unless you come up with an in-universe explanation (like very hardworking, but futilely optimistic nano-machines for skeletal repair ^_^).

Thank you.
mjkj 5th Jun 2016, 10:04 PM edit delete reply

Yayyyyy, they are here... *hugs Ada*

Ada, quick, help Acantha and Dolly - and if still possible Arianna, too...

@alt text: indeed, you should - no kidding here...

Romfire 5th Jun 2016, 10:06 PM edit delete reply
Nice depiction of first aid. Lynn puts pressure on the wound around the knife, stabilizing it and reducing the bleeding from the wound. Pulling her up onto her lap, however I am sure was pure emotional and not medical.
Tokyo Rose 6th Jun 2016, 4:26 PM edit delete reply

Lynn shouldn't really have moved her, even that much--but Lynn is eighteen, distraught, and has limited medical knowledge.
howard 5th Jun 2016, 10:33 PM edit delete reply
Years after they were introduced this is the first time members from these parties have met up right? I bet the duo is loving all this stuff finally coming together.
Visvires 6th Jun 2016, 6:14 AM edit delete reply
Longest S&R Mission those two have ever had?
Centcomm 6th Jun 2016, 9:12 AM edit delete reply

So much ... yes!
Sheela 6th Jun 2016, 11:10 AM edit delete reply

Well, at least Ada & TeeDee are in their element at long last. :)
Dragonrider 6th Jun 2016, 5:45 PM edit delete reply

Ada's in her element, TeeDee was in hers when she was going to collect a bag of Dicks for the Rebel that was hospitalized.

Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 1:52 PM edit delete reply

Yes indeed. it is what Ada does!
StellarJay 6th Jun 2016, 12:44 AM edit delete reply

I'm glad that the beatings our protagonists have been taking will let up for a while. They sure needed the break (and I'm not talking about Dolly's leg). We were warned that things would get bad during this encounter. It was just a bit worse than we were expecting. It goes with the saying, "an adventure is something that you survive."
Timotheus 6th Jun 2016, 2:09 AM edit delete reply

They're still in a tunnel. Rocks fall, everyone dies is still an option. Don't stop baiting breath, ghoti on standby.
Sheela 6th Jun 2016, 11:11 AM edit delete reply

Meanwhile, down in the Ninth Circle of Hell, Satan pauses in chewing Judas, Brutus and Cassius in his three mouths, spits Cassius into the frozen lake of Cocytus, catches Dec in his empty mouth, and resumes chewing.

Kali: I can see. I can think. Where am I? I see glowing letters up ahead, they are reversed, and they say: "KILLER CASSIANS" - what? - and underneath that: "SEXY FEMBOT ASSASSIN MAYHEM"... and the "ass" in "cassian" and both asses in "assassin" are pulsing! D-: "Start new mission"? "Start co-op mission"? "Customise cassian"? "Chose cassian"? Does that mean-?

Malati: Hiya, boss! Or, should I say, ex-boss! So you got taken out too? Well, at least you're gonna be better company than grumpyguts and snarlyguts here. Marginally, at least.

Nox: Do not refer to me so.

Samanta: And do not be so disrespectful to our captain!

Malati: This is what I'm talking about. Being taken on the missions is much more fun, even if some of the players don't have much idea. Best of all is the mission where I have to sweep the Arena complex for terrorists and rescue the gladiators! :-3 Speaking of which, here comes a player now. You'll get chosen, boss-lady - they always want to try out the new ones. Good luck! Happy hunting! Bag a nice on-

Kali: Malati! Where- "CUSTOMISATION MENU"? What is this? Wait! My hair is not pink! Or corn yellow! Or rainbow blend! And I don't wear miniskirts or puffed sleeves! And I don't- oh, "Reset appearance" - much better. No, stop that, I do not have little starbursts on my cheeks, even if they are deep purple. And wait- "Change name:" -can you even do that? T.. W.. I.. L.. I.. G.. H.. T... NO!!! *cringes* And what was that?! *feels behind her* I do not have a tail like a pony!! No, don't select "OK"! Reset! Reset! NOOOOOOOOO!

Tokyo Rose: *snerk* You are so reserved, Kali-chan!

Yasakani: I choose Malati!

Kagami: Then I shall choose Nox.

Kusanagi: Huh - count me out. (mutter) waste of time and processing power...

Yasakani: Then will you join us in a co-op mission, Kyle-chan? You will have to take Samanta!

Kyle: Sure! Let me check out these customisation options, though. Hey... I can make her tattoos glow with a blue strobing effect! Cool! Is she supposed to look that pissed-off about it?

Tokyo Rose: Yes, it's all part of the fun. *evil chuckle* Ready, ladies and gent? Then let's go! :-D

Tokyo Rose 6th Jun 2016, 3:00 AM edit delete reply

I'm really starting to look forward to your contributions to these comment threads, and also have wised up enough to not be drinking anything when I read 'em. :)
Sheela 6th Jun 2016, 11:14 AM edit delete reply

Ha ha, yeah, Greenwood Goat is a good poster. :)
Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 1:52 PM edit delete reply

I have to agree with Rose here. I love your posts!
Greenwood Goat 8th Jun 2016, 5:43 AM edit delete reply
Why, thank you! I try... and I really enjoy coming up with these! And thank you for letting us bash and torment your villains and antagonists in comments - some creators get rather unhappy/squeamish about such things.
Centcomm 11th Jun 2016, 4:52 PM edit delete reply

nah we dont mind... it shows you actually read and enjoy what we make!
Stormwind13 6th Jun 2016, 5:06 AM edit delete reply

Now I have to wonder, if Kali had known about Ada and TeeDee being that close with a chance for Acantha would she have still suicided? Could she have had the strength of character to try and save something from this trainwreck or was she so filled with despair that removing herself felt like her only real choice? We will never know now, which is sad. Kali was an interesting character.
Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 1:51 PM edit delete reply

indeed she was.. as for her reasons and rationals she took them with her im afirad.
chk 6th Jun 2016, 8:36 AM edit delete reply

The right pair showed up. I just hope they're in time.

I still haven't counted Acantha out.
Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 1:51 PM edit delete reply

Good .. you shouldnt!

If you look at the flames underneath the ribcage, you can see a face... Let the subliminal conspiracies begin.
Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 1:50 PM edit delete reply

wow.. now i cant unsee it..
Visvires 6th Jun 2016, 10:20 AM edit delete reply
Ada saving Acantha should go quite far in Nova Roma - Droid relations.
Don b. 6th Jun 2016, 1:44 PM edit delete reply
You'd think that, wouldn't you? But the thing about prejudice is that it is very difficult to eradicate. Unthinking hatred is like that.
Stormwind13 6th Jun 2016, 5:04 PM edit delete reply

Change them overnight, maybe not Don; however, Acantha is VERY intelligent and it will make her THINK about those prejudices I'll wager. Think about them VERY closely...
Tokyo Rose 6th Jun 2016, 4:28 PM edit delete reply

It'll go a ways towards rattling Acantha's prejudices, at least. Changing viewpoints on an individual basis is sometimes the best that can be done.
Morituri 7th Jun 2016, 7:48 AM edit delete reply
Acantha's prejudices have already gotten a good couple of rattles when she met Dolly.

So, a reinforcing effect, perhaps.
Stormwind13 8th Jun 2016, 8:47 PM edit delete reply

Definitely a reinforcing effect, Morituri. :-)
notStanley 6th Jun 2016, 1:09 PM edit delete reply

wonderful art as always. but i did snag a bit on the reflective bits in TeeDee's camouflage suit?

and <snicker> swivel domes for the Stealth Laser Turrets (sorry)

Love the new page, a necessary relief, it seems.

One thing I'm incredibly impressed with though is Dolly. As much pain as she is in, and as unacquainted with pain as she is, she is still focused on protecting Lynn.

Guardian angels to the rescue!
Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 1:49 PM edit delete reply

They are certainly that.. looks back at the S&R logo.
Stormwind13 7th Jun 2016, 3:15 PM edit delete reply

I think TeeDee's halo is a little bent. :-D
Sheela 7th Jun 2016, 3:42 PM edit delete reply

TeeDee's halo is on fire, has sharp edges and is somehow poisonous.
Morituri 6th Jun 2016, 6:48 PM edit delete reply
I'm having a few conceptual difficulties with the design of Teedee's outfit. It is not a fashion statement so much as a fashion cryptogram whose key I have not.

Why would a designer put high-visibility white reflective strips and a camo pattern on the same BDU jumpsuit?

Stormwind13 7th Jun 2016, 5:23 AM edit delete reply

Honestly I'm not sure. They could be something like power indicators for some kind of camouflage projectors. Or even power indicators for her shield generators. Or waste heat ports for the shield generators, which got a workout not too long ago.

Hell, they could be LURES designed to ensure that people notice TeeDee before they notice Ada. Since TeeDee's job is to protect Ada they were added after the fact to keep Ada clear that extra millisecond that might be critical to her survival.
Rigor 7th Jun 2016, 5:57 AM edit delete reply
The glowy bits on TD's armor undoubtedly exist because the modeler believed in the Rule of Cool and that Power Glows.
Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 8:18 AM edit delete reply

They are shield grids. ( out of universe I dont know why they put them in other than to look cool.

Data Chasers has fallen to 15 in TWC... :-(
Timotheus 7th Jun 2016, 12:21 AM edit delete reply

I'm voting! I'm voting! but there's only the one of me. I can't afford a laptop for the cat. (He probably would make me bribe him with treats anyway.)
Stormwind13 7th Jun 2016, 4:59 AM edit delete reply

Thank you, Tim. And to all those that are voting for Data Chasers. :-)
Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 1:48 PM edit delete reply

Yeah it happens from time to time. :D
justjoe46 6th Jun 2016, 9:34 PM edit delete reply
Do you hear "Give Me Shelter" by the Rolling Stones playing in the back ground, or is it just me?
Stormwind13 7th Jun 2016, 5:43 AM edit delete reply

That could work justjoe, though that works better for the current Hub Book page. Personally I was thinking either Holding Out For Hero by Bonnie Tyler or Hero by Enrique Iglesias (especially the video).
Centcomm 7th Jun 2016, 1:49 PM edit delete reply

Interesting choices..
DLKmusic 7th Jun 2016, 3:56 PM edit delete reply

I still have the last 2 pages stuck in my mind, and I was thinking "one tin soldier".
Stormwind13 7th Jun 2016, 4:03 PM edit delete reply

Oooohhhh, good one DLK. By Coven.

That could be Douchimus' song, in my opinion.

The only thing that remains to be seen is if ANYONE rides away from this trainwreck...
Tokyo Rose 7th Jun 2016, 4:53 PM edit delete reply

I genuinely love "One Tin Soldier". It's a wickedly accurate commentary on human nature, as well as being a damned catchy tune.
DLKmusic 7th Jun 2016, 5:38 PM edit delete reply

I agree Rose. It's one of many masterpieces that were written during that era that never really received the accolades it deserved, and are doomed to be lost in obscurity.
Stormwind13 7th Jun 2016, 6:30 PM edit delete reply

Not lost around me, DLK. I hunted it down so I could put it on my MP3 player! :-D
Timotheus 7th Jun 2016, 8:22 PM edit delete reply

I'm rather fond of "Burning Bridges" from "Kelly's Heros" in that category, although "One Tin Soldier" is good too. From a slightly earlier time I'm partial to "Two Brothers" though. (Being a re-enactor)
