Yes! Bless Ada and Teedee!
Centcomm 9th Jun 2016, 9:19 PM edit delete reply

Indeed Ada knows exactly what to do here :D
Dragonrider 9th Jun 2016, 9:07 PM edit delete reply

Acantha will probably survive, get the feeling if the Armageddon Option was stopped Lynn will be spending time at the Palace with her "Sister" before she returns to New Troy. It seems the fates of Nova Roma and New Troy are now interwoven by tighter bonds than any treaty.
Afterthought, know it ain't gonna happen but it would be cool for Ceci to come running up and;
Ceci "Mommy, Who did this to you? Where are they? I swear Mommy I will kill them, I didn't mean for this to happen, Watchdog and CentCom had me hostage."
Lynn " Dolly what's this Mommy stuff?"

Dolly "Cut it out we've got to get to the ship before this place blows up."
Ceci "Oh it isn't gonna blow up Mommy, that's what I've been doing stopping all of Douchebags options. Rose isn't very happy that I didn't tell her first bit I think she'll get over it."
Centcomm 9th Jun 2016, 9:19 PM edit delete reply

Well we shall see how the doomsday clock runs.
Kitty 9th Jun 2016, 9:15 PM edit delete reply
Cool. Love the medical apps!
Centcomm 9th Jun 2016, 9:20 PM edit delete reply

Thank you - it was a pain to set up and I really hope it gives some info on questions peope have been asking about Acantha's injurys.
Beltboy 10th Jun 2016, 4:06 AM edit delete reply
I like that the scanner accurately shows her hair. Too many sifi scanners either have bald patients or generic haircut #2
Deoxy 10th Jun 2016, 7:21 AM edit delete reply
Actually, if it's ignoring clothes, there's no reason it shouldn't also ignore hair, so the bald option actually makes a lot of sense.

(The "generic haircut" thing is indeed mega-stupid.)
LIlyheart 13th Jun 2016, 3:09 PM edit delete reply
This has always bugged me too. Hair has a lot of information in it. If you are gonna do a full body scan, hair should be included!
Speedy Marsh 3rd Apr 2017, 11:03 AM edit delete reply
LIlyheart, that's true. Hair can act as a timeline, trapping various substances from the bloodstream, as it is grown. Forensic TV shows like to show lab techs testing hair samples for drugs, toxins, and poisons.

It'd be cool if scanners like Ada's showed bands of color in the patient's hair, representing foreign substances trapped in it, and giving estimates as to how long ago the patient was exposed to them. Also, the scanners might be able to detect changes in the hair caused by illnesses that effect blood chemistry.

Now this is what medical treatment may actually be in the future.

Love it! the inner geek in me is clapping his hands wildly!

Nano-leeches for precision bleeding of foul humors.
Sheela 11th Jun 2016, 7:15 AM edit delete reply

Murderturd sized leeches for people like Decimus ! :D
cattservant 9th Jun 2016, 9:28 PM edit delete reply

Time to start securing loose ends.
Stormwind13 10th Jun 2016, 4:52 AM edit delete reply

Cats are ALWAYS loose ends, catt! :-D

And I don't think this roller-coaster ride is over. Precipices ahead and the car has lost its brakes! =O
cattservant 10th Jun 2016, 8:06 AM edit delete reply

Got to start somewhere.
Sheela 11th Jun 2016, 7:15 AM edit delete reply

True, and I agree this rollercoaster aint over yet.
Visvires 9th Jun 2016, 9:35 PM edit delete reply
*sigh of relief*
Stormwind13 10th Jun 2016, 7:33 PM edit delete reply

Don't get started Visvires... Knowing the EVIL duo, Acantha is probably allergic to the Warm Stasis Treatment... Would be like them to bookend it with the (revamped) allergic reaction sequence on No, Seriously, Overreaction. As compromised as Acantha is though, it easily could be fatal. :-\
Gilrandir 9th Jun 2016, 9:48 PM edit delete reply
And this is why we can't have underage teens going through U.S.A. airport security scanners. ^_^

In all seriousness, the art is very nice, @Centcomm. There appear to be a truly mind-numbing amount of details included that bespeak your dedication to your craft.
Speedy Marsh 3rd Apr 2017, 11:34 AM edit delete reply
I seem to remember a show on Science Channel, that demonstrated the new low power reflective x-ray scanners they're using in airports. The scanners supposedly automatically blur the naughty bits, while still showing any weapons or drug packets that are hidden in those areas.

Of course, someone could use similar machines without the blurring software, capture images from several angles, and create an unclothed 3D model of the person that was scanned.

So... if Centcomm asks you to stand still, while she walks around you with a strange device, you might end up seeing yourself streaking through the pages of Data Chasers. xD ;)
mjkj 9th Jun 2016, 10:04 PM edit delete reply

Great, Ada, you go!!! Save her!!!

...and "ghost" Acantha looks great ♡♡♡ - except for the knife...

...and TeeDee, good job...

@alt text: so true...

DLKmusic 9th Jun 2016, 10:19 PM edit delete reply

I would like to take just a brief moment to say... "YAHOOOOO!!!!!!!"
The Old Scribe 9th Jun 2016, 10:27 PM edit delete reply

'Warm Stasis Treatment' sounds like a combo of suspended animation and a medically induced coma.Bring Acantha's body down to it's lowest operating temperature and reduce vital functions to minimal maintenance mode. Physical trauma can be slowed, damage mitigated and biological repairs regulated since the body has less work to do.

Where will they get her treatment? Troy has a lot more on the ball medically than Roma does. Can you fit an operating room in a hypersonic shuttle?
HiFranc 9th Jun 2016, 11:07 PM edit delete reply

Actually, recent research shows that bringing people's body temperature down (at least for head injuries) actually makes things worse in the long run.

{edit} Research concerned
Mark_L_A 9th Jun 2016, 11:52 PM edit delete reply

The reducing of body temperature shows the best benefit for cardiac cases and major wound trauma of the thoracic region. I can't find the link nor my text book ATM, but like you said it IS contraindicated for head trauma. You need as much oxygenated blood getting to the brain as possible in case the trauma has caused microbleeds affecting proper circulation.
Mark_L_A 9th Jun 2016, 11:41 PM edit delete reply

Is it Acantha has an 87% chance of surviving through warm stasis treatment as long as it is no longer than 3 hours and 22 minutes? Or is the warm stasis a treatment that can heal her in 3 hours and 22 minutes?

ETA: I just noticed either Ada or her scanner filtered out Lynn's hand from the scan.

Also Dolly is trying to get back on the job, Not too sure how well her knee is going to take it even with the armor locked.

And looking at the last panel does anyone else get a LOTR vibe or is it just me?
Just_DD 10th Jun 2016, 4:31 AM edit delete reply
@Mark_L_A: I took that to mean that it was 87% survivable if warm stasis was initiated within 3:22:00. ADA I don't think can initiate warm stasis in with the field unit. What she is doing now is the first steps to remove the object and stabilize the wound. They also need to immobilize & transport. The question I have is which way they go. To NewTroy or to Aneas's domain. I'm leaning towards NT, only because despite the strife there, there are confirmed medical facilities & Lynn was known to be with the princess there and does not have a collar.

Recovery of Arianna's body shouldn't be attempted at this time, though she damn well better receive a hero's funeral alongside her boyfriend (can people be married after thir deaths).

What Acantha has going for her is that she is in very good physical shape, she is young, and she is mentally strong. I think New Troy's medical treatment capabilities would include warm stasis because I'm fairly certain that Lynn received it for her wrist when she arrived.
Just_IDD 10th Jun 2016, 4:38 AM edit delete reply
I meant Nova Roma in my comment above. We know that they are several days/a week away from New Troy via overland, and sub orbital would need about 18 hours to accomplish.
Stormwind13 10th Jun 2016, 8:35 AM edit delete reply

Actually as I understand it, Nova Roma is around Prince Edward Island (Canada). New Troy is near Colorado Springs (Colorado). That is about 3,500 kms. A lot of the time involved was to protect the rescuers (or in Dolly's case because CentComm was screwing with her navigation). If they are willing to burn the fuel, they could be done in an hour (at Mach 3). Provided they didn't have to go around any really nasty spots.
Aurora 10th Jun 2016, 9:07 PM edit delete reply
New Troy's near my hometown?! Hmm... It's a wonder that I don't see Pikes Peak in the earlier pages... I'll have to take another gander...
Dragonrider 10th Jun 2016, 1:29 PM edit delete reply

@Just_DD " (can people be married after their deaths)."
I don't see why not, one Church "saves" and converts people who have been dead for many, many years.
TheSkulker 11th Jun 2016, 4:05 AM edit delete reply

Right. Even when they specifically would NOT want to be "saved" such as Catholic priests and saints, Anne Frank (baptized by proxy over nine times), thousands of Holocaust victims.

"... have both baptized [Catholic saint, Father] Damien by proxy and ‘sealed’ him for eternity to a wife named Marie Damien"

“Perhaps the most unique thing about our temple ordinances, is that they can be performed for the dead…Such ordinances as…temple marriage are performed in our temples for the dead and the living." []
Sheela 11th Jun 2016, 7:35 AM edit delete reply

There's even a few that has been unbaptized !
Gilrandir 11th Jun 2016, 8:30 AM edit delete reply
Is that where the soul is restored to the original factory specifications by putting the Original Sin back in it?

People should always be careful when going to a third-party for after-market work. ^_^
Sheela 11th Jun 2016, 2:06 PM edit delete reply

Nah, nah ... Mormons were involved, it was already a thirdparty hack job.
Dragonrider 11th Jun 2016, 4:45 PM edit delete reply

@Sheela: afraid I gotta call foul on the last comment you made. When I broached the subject I did not name a Denomination/Faith nor did I offer a comment or opinion I merely stated it was possible. It is a tenet of their belief system and as valid to them as the tenets of Paganism are for me.
Sheela 11th Jun 2016, 11:32 PM edit delete reply

Fair enough, but then I consider all religion kinda wonky. Mostly, I was referring to the mormons in the video though.

As for incomic, I don't feel that the Church of Unified Purity seems particularly "spiritual", but I wouldn't be surprised.
You could say that the Church of Roma is sort of a bio-science cult, with a bit of religion on the side ?
Dragonrider 12th Jun 2016, 3:28 PM edit delete reply

Hadn't considered the Church of Nova Roma as other than an organ gathering operation for replacement organs. No mention has been made to other religions other than Lynn calling on the Goddess and Ada referring to the Church of the First Circuit so it has not been anything I've given much thought to trying to out guess Their Evilness.
Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:16 PM edit delete reply

There has been some mention of Tartarus and Mars.
ie the old roman gods and afterlife.
StellarJay 10th Jun 2016, 1:25 AM edit delete reply

Alt text: "Alive" is always a great place to start when dealing with a medical issue.
Agreed. Nothing much really matters until the question of dead or alive is answered.
If alive, then what action is necessary to treat the damage can be assessed.
TheSkulker 10th Jun 2016, 4:53 AM edit delete reply

A Friday and not a cliffhanger. A welcome respite but a fantastic journey. As usual, outstanding artwork and dialog.

Monday, a scene change: Ceci/Aeneas, Marcus, Maxus or Dr Silver? My guess is Ceci and the next cliff hanger arc.
Centcomm 10th Jun 2016, 5:51 AM edit delete reply

nope not a scenre change yet... thats all ill say.

Does anyone else hear Vera Lynn singing "We'll meet again"? If you're unfamiliar with it check out Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film "Dr. Strangelove", or "How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb".
Timotheus 10th Jun 2016, 8:39 AM edit delete reply

I was waiting to see if the contingencies actually kicked in before bringing that one up. The situation hasn't quite called for it yet, but it's been in the back of my mind.

(The most effective this is the end music in my opinion was the use of "Waltzing Matilda" in "On the Beach", but it wouldn't really fit here.)
DLKmusic 10th Jun 2016, 1:28 PM edit delete reply
LOVED that movie, although I don't think Slim Pickens is riding bronco on the bomb just yet....
Dragonrider 10th Jun 2016, 1:37 PM edit delete reply

I laughed so hard during that movie I almost got thrown out of the theater. It hits my number 1 for best all time comedy and satire.
Steven-Vincent 10th Jun 2016, 6:28 AM edit delete reply

Very nice job on the transparent figure with the red knife in the bottom frame. That had to be hard to do.
Nef 10th Jun 2016, 8:36 AM edit delete reply

I wish my doctor had one of those. I was sick for almost two years before they even had a clue of what I had.
Tokyo Rose 10th Jun 2016, 7:00 PM edit delete reply

I fear I'm going to regret asking this, but...

... what DID you have?
Fafhred 10th Jun 2016, 10:07 AM edit delete reply
It is called a Lazarus Trauma Kit.
Gilrandir 10th Jun 2016, 11:42 AM edit delete reply
Maybe it should be called "The Kit of Despair", because you really don't want them to have to use it on you? ^_^

Alternates include: Kit of Repair, Kit of Disrepair, The Kit and the Speculum, The Kit With Nine Lives & The Kit Of Last Resort.
Gilrandir 10th Jun 2016, 11:43 AM edit delete reply
Fans of Detective Comics and Ras Al Ghul, may also just know it as "The Lazarus Kit".
Dragonrider 10th Jun 2016, 1:40 PM edit delete reply

Along these lines I think the "OH SHIT Kit" might be the most appropriate name.
Anonymouth 3rd Apr 2017, 12:16 PM edit delete reply
In British slang, "kit" means clothing. So, "OH SHIT Kit" would refer to your brown pants.

I'm sure everyone remembers the captain who, upon seeing an enemy ship, said to his first mate, "Fetch me my red shirt so the men won't see me bleed during the fight, and lose heart at the thought of me falling in battle." Then, the captain saw the entire enemy fleet approaching from the horizon. He turned to his first mate, and said "Fetch me my brown pants!"
Guest 11th Jun 2016, 1:40 AM edit delete reply
You know, I can do a lot of things. Pilot a ship, saturation dive, paint a house, even manage to grow a small vineyard and make my own wine.

But I don't have a single artistic muscle in my body. I look at pages like this and think, "HOW do they DO that?"
Mark_L_A 11th Jun 2016, 8:16 AM edit delete reply

Is CeCi the passing Techno Fairy?
Gilrandir 11th Jun 2016, 8:38 AM edit delete reply
Are you suggesting that Kali was a "Black Hole"? That seems a bit ... harsh. ^_^
Mark_L_A 12th Jun 2016, 1:00 PM edit delete reply

Quite possibly for the story she was. She did after all take of Douchie.

Anyone else having issues with TWC? It won't let me in to vote this afternoon.
Sheela 11th Jun 2016, 2:07 PM edit delete reply

Me too.
Not sure what's up with it.
DLKmusic 11th Jun 2016, 2:57 PM edit delete reply
I don't like the change to TWC's site, but the vote link is a text link just underneath the rank of the comic (currently no 12).

and the TWC links from the pages now take you to the front page of TWC. ARRRG
Timotheus 11th Jun 2016, 4:38 PM edit delete reply

TWC is apparently now trying to promote all of its other clients by taking you to a menu page with all their voting options to select from. It seems sort of counter productive for the individual choices.
Sheela 11th Jun 2016, 11:35 PM edit delete reply

Actually, it looks like they have changed the link format to :

So a quick update to the webpage, and it should work again.
Mark_L_A 12th Jun 2016, 1:04 PM edit delete reply

I think they changed their format, this is the direct link now, you have to remove the "default.aspx" off the end new - old
Tokyo Rose 12th Jun 2016, 8:01 PM edit delete reply

Thanks for spotting the issue and delivering the solution, folks. Fixed. :)
Mark_L_A 12th Jun 2016, 8:15 PM edit delete reply

We do it so our Authoresses can get with making the story. ;)
Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:16 PM edit delete reply

Aw, I just do it because I'm a nitpicker. :D
