Acantha will probably survive, get the feeling if the Armageddon Option was stopped Lynn will be spending time at the Palace with her "Sister" before she returns to New Troy. It seems the fates of Nova Roma and New Troy are now interwoven by tighter bonds than any treaty.
Afterthought, know it ain't gonna happen but it would be cool for Ceci to come running up and;
Ceci "Mommy, Who did this to you? Where are they? I swear Mommy I will kill them, I didn't mean for this to happen, Watchdog and CentCom had me hostage."
Lynn " Dolly what's this Mommy stuff?"
Dolly "Cut it out we've got to get to the ship before this place blows up."
Ceci "Oh it isn't gonna blow up Mommy, that's what I've been doing stopping all of Douchebags options. Rose isn't very happy that I didn't tell her first bit I think she'll get over it."
LIlyheart, that's true. Hair can act as a timeline, trapping various substances from the bloodstream, as it is grown. Forensic TV shows like to show lab techs testing hair samples for drugs, toxins, and poisons.
It'd be cool if scanners like Ada's showed bands of color in the patient's hair, representing foreign substances trapped in it, and giving estimates as to how long ago the patient was exposed to them. Also, the scanners might be able to detect changes in the hair caused by illnesses that effect blood chemistry.
Don't get started Visvires... Knowing the EVIL duo, Acantha is probably allergic to the Warm Stasis Treatment... Would be like them to bookend it with the (revamped) allergic reaction sequence on No, Seriously, Overreaction. As compromised as Acantha is though, it easily could be fatal. :-\
And this is why we can't have underage teens going through U.S.A. airport security scanners. ^_^
In all seriousness, the art is very nice, @Centcomm. There appear to be a truly mind-numbing amount of details included that bespeak your dedication to your craft.
I seem to remember a show on Science Channel, that demonstrated the new low power reflective x-ray scanners they're using in airports. The scanners supposedly automatically blur the naughty bits, while still showing any weapons or drug packets that are hidden in those areas.
Of course, someone could use similar machines without the blurring software, capture images from several angles, and create an unclothed 3D model of the person that was scanned.
So... if Centcomm asks you to stand still, while she walks around you with a strange device, you might end up seeing yourself streaking through the pages of Data Chasers. xD ;)
'Warm Stasis Treatment' sounds like a combo of suspended animation and a medically induced coma.Bring Acantha's body down to it's lowest operating temperature and reduce vital functions to minimal maintenance mode. Physical trauma can be slowed, damage mitigated and biological repairs regulated since the body has less work to do.
Where will they get her treatment? Troy has a lot more on the ball medically than Roma does. Can you fit an operating room in a hypersonic shuttle?
The reducing of body temperature shows the best benefit for cardiac cases and major wound trauma of the thoracic region. I can't find the link nor my text book ATM, but like you said it IS contraindicated for head trauma. You need as much oxygenated blood getting to the brain as possible in case the trauma has caused microbleeds affecting proper circulation.
Is it Acantha has an 87% chance of surviving through warm stasis treatment as long as it is no longer than 3 hours and 22 minutes? Or is the warm stasis a treatment that can heal her in 3 hours and 22 minutes?
ETA: I just noticed either Ada or her scanner filtered out Lynn's hand from the scan.
Also Dolly is trying to get back on the job, Not too sure how well her knee is going to take it even with the armor locked.
And looking at the last panel does anyone else get a LOTR vibe or is it just me?
@Mark_L_A: I took that to mean that it was 87% survivable if warm stasis was initiated within 3:22:00. ADA I don't think can initiate warm stasis in with the field unit. What she is doing now is the first steps to remove the object and stabilize the wound. They also need to immobilize & transport. The question I have is which way they go. To NewTroy or to Aneas's domain. I'm leaning towards NT, only because despite the strife there, there are confirmed medical facilities & Lynn was known to be with the princess there and does not have a collar.
Recovery of Arianna's body shouldn't be attempted at this time, though she damn well better receive a hero's funeral alongside her boyfriend (can people be married after thir deaths).
What Acantha has going for her is that she is in very good physical shape, she is young, and she is mentally strong. I think New Troy's medical treatment capabilities would include warm stasis because I'm fairly certain that Lynn received it for her wrist when she arrived.
I meant Nova Roma in my comment above. We know that they are several days/a week away from New Troy via overland, and sub orbital would need about 18 hours to accomplish.
Actually as I understand it, Nova Roma is around Prince Edward Island (Canada). New Troy is near Colorado Springs (Colorado). That is about 3,500 kms. A lot of the time involved was to protect the rescuers (or in Dolly's case because CentComm was screwing with her navigation). If they are willing to burn the fuel, they could be done in an hour (at Mach 3). Provided they didn't have to go around any really nasty spots.
@Just_DD " (can people be married after their deaths)."
I don't see why not, one Church "saves" and converts people who have been dead for many, many years.
Right. Even when they specifically would NOT want to be "saved" such as Catholic priests and saints, Anne Frank (baptized by proxy over nine times), thousands of Holocaust victims.
"... have both baptized [Catholic saint, Father] Damien by proxy and ‘sealed’ him for eternity to a wife named Marie Damien"

@Sheela: afraid I gotta call foul on the last comment you made. When I broached the subject I did not name a Denomination/Faith nor did I offer a comment or opinion I merely stated it was possible. It is a tenet of their belief system and as valid to them as the tenets of Paganism are for me.
Fair enough, but then I consider all religion kinda wonky. Mostly, I was referring to the mormons in the video though.
As for incomic, I don't feel that the Church of Unified Purity seems particularly "spiritual", but I wouldn't be surprised.
You could say that the Church of Roma is sort of a bio-science cult, with a bit of religion on the side ?
Hadn't considered the Church of Nova Roma as other than an organ gathering operation for replacement organs. No mention has been made to other religions other than Lynn calling on the Goddess and Ada referring to the Church of the First Circuit so it has not been anything I've given much thought to trying to out guess Their Evilness.
Alt text: "Alive" is always a great place to start when dealing with a medical issue.
Agreed. Nothing much really matters until the question of dead or alive is answered.
If alive, then what action is necessary to treat the damage can be assessed.
Does anyone else hear Vera Lynn singing "We'll meet again"? If you're unfamiliar with it check out Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film "Dr. Strangelove", or "How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb".
I was waiting to see if the contingencies actually kicked in before bringing that one up. The situation hasn't quite called for it yet, but it's been in the back of my mind.
(The most effective this is the end music in my opinion was the use of "Waltzing Matilda" in "On the Beach", but it wouldn't really fit here.)
In British slang, "kit" means clothing. So, "OH SHIT Kit" would refer to your brown pants.
I'm sure everyone remembers the captain who, upon seeing an enemy ship, said to his first mate, "Fetch me my red shirt so the men won't see me bleed during the fight, and lose heart at the thought of me falling in battle." Then, the captain saw the entire enemy fleet approaching from the horizon. He turned to his first mate, and said "Fetch me my brown pants!"
TWC is apparently now trying to promote all of its other clients by taking you to a menu page with all their voting options to select from. It seems sort of counter productive for the individual choices.

(The "generic haircut" thing is indeed mega-stupid.)

Love it! the inner geek in me is clapping his hands wildly!
And I don't think this roller-coaster ride is over. Precipices ahead and the car has lost its brakes! =O

People should always be careful when going to a third-party for after-market work. ^_^

Monday, a scene change: Ceci/Aeneas, Marcus, Maxus or Dr Silver? My guess is Ceci and the next cliff hanger arc.
(The most effective this is the end music in my opinion was the use of "Waltzing Matilda" in "On the Beach", but it wouldn't really fit here.)
I wish my doctor had one of those. I was sick for almost two years before they even had a clue of what I had.
... what DID you have?
Alternates include: Kit of Repair, Kit of Disrepair, The Kit and the Speculum, The Kit With Nine Lives & The Kit Of Last Resort.

But I don't have a single artistic muscle in my body. I look at pages like this and think, "HOW do they DO that?"
Is CeCi the passing Techno Fairy?
Not sure what's up with it.
