Dolly may feel embarrassed first time she has had to have a Taylor take care of her.
Now which Trauma Unit Nova Roma's crap or Aeneas and have Rose and Company work?
I personally think that Dolly might be more proud than embarrassed. Before she left New Troy she was thinking that she needed to make both Lynn and Calliope tougher, and she has succeeded with Lynn here.
The machine says:
LIFE-LAB HOT-ST-2/50
wARNING 382-NTSR USE ONLY
(or possibly 38Z, make of it what you will.
could also be an O instead of a 0, but I'm quite certain the 5 is not an S)
And I'm sure Dolly is plenty proud of Lynn.
As for the trauma center, well, we have Priestess Julia running around, knowing every nook and cranny of the local facilities ... she could be real useful. :)
Well, to be fair, if they run into any .. "troubles", I'm sure TeeDee will be more than happy about ... uhmm ... "counceling" those "troubles" to "go away" ... permanently! :)
you are not to far off from that ... but it takes a week to grow a new heart... in the interim time they put in a artificial heart, that is bioplastic. they are generally used as replacements for cyborgs, androids who have gone the way of the type 4 body and athletes that want to get a little extra edge in sports. (it is superior to the original heart in that it can be programed to deliver more blood flow in extreme situations)
*BONUS INFO* My heart was replaced after taking a critical hit to the chest during one of my missions, I do have a number of internal organs that are "banked" in the event of extreme trauma and I am gotten back to New Troy in time..
I'm wondering if this might actually be the beginnings of knowledge exchange between NT and NR. Nova Roma is pretty advanced in Bio sciences, and Acantha could probably get the necessary Trauma treatment she needs from Julia.
Plus, we know about Regenerex, wonder how well it works on internal organs.
Remember early on the sad state of the med equipment in Julia's clinic? Really think Aeneas is the best choice here, they have Zero chance of making it to the escape craft if they did the Dryad would be the best possible Medic for Acantha but right now Julia is out of reach and Creepy Doctor from the Temple of Body Parts R Us isn't much of an option.
OK I read the redone pages, waaaaayyyyy different from the original. Question will Acantha have a similar reaction to the New Troy Nano-Meds to what Lynn had to the Bio-Meds?
nano meds are BIO invisible. they don't trigger immune responses.
Bio plastic is also " invisible : to the body but it can join with it IE bio plastic can be fused to living tissue. There is a CHANCE that the person may be psychologically damaged the more they replace But very few reactions to the actual materials.
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Setorius kept a full set of lab grown vital organs, for both Acantha and Decimus, growing a new set each time the organs reach their "sell by" date. I'm sure he found a way to collect enough DNA from both of them, to play with in his lab.
If he has cryogenic equipment in his lab, he's probably got plenty of organs on ice.
Ada should set the scanner to check for fresh, compatible hearts, and let Dolly use it to scan all the warm bodies that lie in their path. That is, unless Ada needs it to continuously monitor Acantha.
Doesn't Ceci have nanites that could mend Acantha's heart?
New heart? Bummer! Nova Roma's med facilities are strictly meatball, so no help there. New Troy's her only hope if they can get her there in time. Where's a hypersonic ramjet passenger plane when you need one? Maybe Doc Silver could rig up a temporary heart Acantha could wear until she can get a legit arti or real one.
I think the treatment Ada just administered can keep Acantha alive for the short term future. Acantha is surviving not living is my read of it. Basically in a coma until they can get her a new heart.
Actually, Nova Roma trauma centers seemed to be pretty good, from the looks of the rebooted pages.
It might be exactly where she wants to be.
"New heart ? Oh, we got on in the cooler, what color do you want it in?"
Given past experience with Nova Roma Med (redux), likely they'd go ahead and implant the heart without doing a type and cross-match for possible tissue rejection. After all, "hearts are standard -- everyone has one." ^_^
On the other hand, I suppose that's still better than putting in a spare set of ovaries where the heart used to be, ^_^
I've heard that the organ rejection process takes a while to start, and that even an incompatible organ can work for a short time, before the recipient's body starts to break it down enough that it begins to damage the rest of the body.
Of course, the organ would be ruined in the process, meaning that some person who that organ would have been perfect for won't get it, and they might die waiting for the next match. That's almost certainly why UNOS won't approve transplants that aren't a very close match.
If it's possible to grow entire organs from stem cells, shouldn't it be possible to remove Acantha's heart, grow the severed parts back together, and put it back in, in a lot less time than it would take to grow a whole new one?
Just started reading the 12th june and loved the whole journey it took me trough.
Yes I actually went trough it all in pretty much one sitting!
Now I can hardly wait for the next page and the rest of this story to unfold.
ATTENTION ALL READERS!!
We have a serious case of REVISION SYNDROME developing here and all readers are advised to go back and read the revised beginning portion of the story before the plot confusion becomes terminal. Things are no longer what they once were and much that we once thought was isn't.
Remember, it's their story and they can do what they want with it. (Honest. They can. Really.)
The medical analysis showed the knife had injured the Aorta. That is the main artery leaving the heart. It is not the heart itself. So the heart should be fine if they can patch the aorta.
A M.A.S.H episode had such an operation, so they were doing them in the 1960s. Keeping blood from filling the pericardium is a concern, as is lung function, but the treatments they have given should have taken care of that. With the support systems they have, any of the medical centers in Nova Roma should do for such an operation. That is assuming they are not nuked into oblivion before that can happen.
Also the upper lobe of her left lung. Lot of capillaries in there, she could drown in her own blood if she is not monitored properly. Unless Ada's gear includes a small Heart/Lung or just a Lung machine.
Now which Trauma Unit Nova Roma's crap or Aeneas and have Rose and Company work?
BTW what is the warning notice on the Life Lab?
LIFE-LAB HOT-ST-2/50

{edit} Actually, it looks like lots of people in New Rome are about to have bad day.
{edit 2} If Aeneas can't stop the contingencies then this is probably the final countdown for New Rome and it will probably lead to confusion.
If they're lucky, and New Rome survives, it should lead to some change.
That last song still gives me goosebumps today. It reminds me of the optimism of the late 80s and early 90s.
So casual:
"She may need a replacement heart."
"OK, I'll get one from supplies. What model do you think?"
Or they accelerate and clone one while keeping her on a mechanical heart. We shall see!
What does it print with ?
9mm bullets ?
Plus, we know about Regenerex, wonder how well it works on internal organs.

edit: I see everyone beat me to the punch on this one... I'll just sit over here...
I'm irish, and that's the ONLY way!

Big thanks!
Like DLK Said, kick back and enjoy yourself.
Dammit, so that's why I keep waking up with hangovers.
Yeah, I know, you can quit Tuna and slippers any time you want, you just don't want...
A pity she does not have TR's nanites...
Edit: Lynn is so worried about Acantha... "You take care of her, and I will take care of Dolly..."
PS: "ghost" Acantha looks like an angel there: beautiful, all white, and with a halo... - ...only the wings are missing...
And yes tis a pity about those Nanos..
You're off the hook, Dragonrider! At least for now!

edit note vote button is back~~~For now
THis has been a wonderful and terrible scene so far!!!
And we could always kill Kyle for a heart as well. :)
Daz now can do animations. I wonder if this could also be done as a motion comic.
If so, I've done some voice acting and narrating in the past and would gladly volunteer my voice and time.

First Aid kits have come a long way...
