Dolly may feel embarrassed first time she has had to have a Taylor take care of her.
Now which Trauma Unit Nova Roma's crap or Aeneas and have Rose and Company work?

BTW what is the warning notice on the Life Lab?
DLKmusic 12th Jun 2016, 9:15 PM edit delete reply

I personally think that Dolly might be more proud than embarrassed. Before she left New Troy she was thinking that she needed to make both Lynn and Calliope tougher, and she has succeeded with Lynn here.
Centcomm 12th Jun 2016, 9:58 PM edit delete reply

" Stuff " NTSR use only.. is the rest of the label. its not meant to be perfectly readable :D
Tahg 13th Jun 2016, 1:04 AM edit delete reply
The machine says:
(or possibly 38Z, make of it what you will.
could also be an O instead of a 0, but I'm quite certain the 5 is not an S)
Centcomm 13th Jun 2016, 4:10 PM edit delete reply

You got it correctly..
Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:22 PM edit delete reply

At least it's not written with crayons. :)

And I'm sure Dolly is plenty proud of Lynn.
As for the trauma center, well, we have Priestess Julia running around, knowing every nook and cranny of the local facilities ... she could be real useful. :)
Mark_L_A 12th Jun 2016, 9:06 PM edit delete reply

Praying they get to where Acantha can get fast treatment before any "troubles" overtake them.
Visvires 12th Jun 2016, 9:23 PM edit delete reply
It's not like it's the End of the World outside. Oh, wait.
Centcomm 12th Jun 2016, 9:44 PM edit delete reply

Its the end of the world and I feel fine.,....
Visvires 12th Jun 2016, 9:56 PM edit delete reply
Of course you do. You picked the ending. Sadist. :p
HiFranc 13th Jun 2016, 2:48 AM edit delete reply

Not I've got that song playing in my head.

{edit} Actually, it looks like lots of people in New Rome are about to have bad day.

{edit 2} If Aeneas can't stop the contingencies then this is probably the final countdown for New Rome and it will probably lead to confusion.

If they're lucky, and New Rome survives, it should lead to some change.

That last song still gives me goosebumps today. It reminds me of the optimism of the late 80s and early 90s.
Centcomm 13th Jun 2016, 4:10 PM edit delete reply

Oh thats good.. :P
Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:25 PM edit delete reply

Well, to be fair, if they run into any .. "troubles", I'm sure TeeDee will be more than happy about ... uhmm ... "counceling" those "troubles" to "go away" ... permanently! :)
Timotheus 13th Jun 2016, 7:20 PM edit delete reply

As long as "Tokyo Rose is not afraid"...
mjkj 14th Jun 2016, 1:38 AM edit delete reply

I believe the next time we see TR she is cursing like there is no tomorrow...
TheSkulker 12th Jun 2016, 9:06 PM edit delete reply

I thought there would be a race against the clock but, not unexpectedly, the evil duo has one-upped me: we have two!

So casual:
"She may need a replacement heart."

"OK, I'll get one from supplies. What model do you think?"
Centcomm 12th Jun 2016, 9:43 PM edit delete reply

While admittedly its not that casual.. it is a relatively safe procedure in New Troy.
Haegan2005 12th Jun 2016, 9:46 PM edit delete reply

For all we know they use a three Dee printer to make the heart and it takes twenty minutes.

Or they accelerate and clone one while keeping her on a mechanical heart. We shall see!
Marcus Ramesy 13th Jun 2016, 11:08 AM edit delete reply

you are not to far off from that ... but it takes a week to grow a new heart... in the interim time they put in a artificial heart, that is bioplastic. they are generally used as replacements for cyborgs, androids who have gone the way of the type 4 body and athletes that want to get a little extra edge in sports. (it is superior to the original heart in that it can be programed to deliver more blood flow in extreme situations)
Marcus Ramesy 13th Jun 2016, 11:10 AM edit delete reply

*BONUS INFO* My heart was replaced after taking a critical hit to the chest during one of my missions, I do have a number of internal organs that are "banked" in the event of extreme trauma and I am gotten back to New Troy in time..
Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:26 PM edit delete reply

Wait ... waiiiit a minute ... a TeeDee printer ?

What does it print with ?
9mm bullets ?
Centcomm 13th Jun 2016, 7:03 PM edit delete reply

too small... think bigger.
NinjaYacdan 13th Jun 2016, 7:40 PM edit delete reply
.50 Beowulf with fragmenting depleted uranium.
Mark_L_A 13th Jun 2016, 10:16 PM edit delete reply

Still too small. 30mmX173mm the same as used in the GAU-8 in the A-10 Warthog.
Sheela 14th Jun 2016, 8:59 AM edit delete reply

TeeDee always order her pizza with pepperoni and 9mm bullets on them.
Stormwind13 14th Jun 2016, 4:40 PM edit delete reply

I was thinking TeeDee wanted the ammo for the 16"/50 Mark 7's myself. :-D
Mark_L_A 15th Jun 2016, 6:33 AM edit delete reply

Yeah but she can't carry that :p
DLKmusic 12th Jun 2016, 9:17 PM edit delete reply

I'm wondering if this might actually be the beginnings of knowledge exchange between NT and NR. Nova Roma is pretty advanced in Bio sciences, and Acantha could probably get the necessary Trauma treatment she needs from Julia.

Plus, we know about Regenerex, wonder how well it works on internal organs.
Dragonrider 12th Jun 2016, 9:34 PM edit delete reply

Remember early on the sad state of the med equipment in Julia's clinic? Really think Aeneas is the best choice here, they have Zero chance of making it to the escape craft if they did the Dryad would be the best possible Medic for Acantha but right now Julia is out of reach and Creepy Doctor from the Temple of Body Parts R Us isn't much of an option.
Mark_L_A 12th Jun 2016, 9:42 PM edit delete reply

Dragonrider check the new reboot pages about that.
Centcomm 12th Jun 2016, 9:43 PM edit delete reply

Actually - part of that was poor planning on my part .. might want to check out the new redone pages. :D
Dragonrider 12th Jun 2016, 11:39 PM edit delete reply

OK I read the redone pages, waaaaayyyyy different from the original. Question will Acantha have a similar reaction to the New Troy Nano-Meds to what Lynn had to the Bio-Meds?
Centcomm 13th Jun 2016, 4:12 PM edit delete reply

nano meds are BIO invisible. they don't trigger immune responses.

Bio plastic is also " invisible : to the body but it can join with it IE bio plastic can be fused to living tissue. There is a CHANCE that the person may be psychologically damaged the more they replace But very few reactions to the actual materials.
DLKmusic 12th Jun 2016, 9:45 PM edit delete reply

I was actually thinking in terms of the state of the Medical clinic in the rebooted pages (eps 96-106), which was much improved.

edit: I see everyone beat me to the punch on this one... I'll just sit over here...
Mark_L_A 12th Jun 2016, 10:17 PM edit delete reply

DLK Get back over here . Do you want Scotch or my Home Brew Ale?
DLKmusic 13th Jun 2016, 7:01 AM edit delete reply

scotch or ale? good question... uhm, YES, please!
Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:30 PM edit delete reply

Ah yes, Archpriest Setorious would be just the person to use for something like this.
Mark_L_A 13th Jun 2016, 7:23 PM edit delete reply

One Scotch and One Beer. You'll have to supply your own Bourbon, I quit drinking that stuff years ago. Unless you'd prefer Rum or Spiced Rum instead?
DLKmusic 13th Jun 2016, 8:52 PM edit delete reply

I like rum, but it don't belong anywhere near a boilermaker!
Mark_L_A 13th Jun 2016, 10:17 PM edit delete reply

Which boilermaker, the dropped shot boilermaker or the standard Shot with a beer chaser?
DLKmusic 14th Jun 2016, 6:59 AM edit delete reply

Dropped shot, of course...

I'm irish, and that's the ONLY way!
Mark_L_A 14th Jun 2016, 2:19 PM edit delete reply

Ahhh try Spiced Rum dropped into a dark Lager then. I think you'll like it.
Oldarmourer 11th Jul 2019, 10:24 AM edit delete reply
Or vodka dropped into the beer/ale of your choice aka a 'Siberian Depth Charge'
Speedy Marsh 3rd Apr 2017, 12:59 PM edit delete reply
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Setorius kept a full set of lab grown vital organs, for both Acantha and Decimus, growing a new set each time the organs reach their "sell by" date. I'm sure he found a way to collect enough DNA from both of them, to play with in his lab.

If he has cryogenic equipment in his lab, he's probably got plenty of organs on ice.

Ada should set the scanner to check for fresh, compatible hearts, and let Dolly use it to scan all the warm bodies that lie in their path. That is, unless Ada needs it to continuously monitor Acantha.

Doesn't Ceci have nanites that could mend Acantha's heart?
cattservant 12th Jun 2016, 9:26 PM edit delete reply

The heart of the matter.
Centcomm 12th Jun 2016, 9:44 PM edit delete reply

Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:30 PM edit delete reply

Arrrgh .. the pun!

*paws chest*
The Old Scribe 12th Jun 2016, 9:45 PM edit delete reply

New heart? Bummer! Nova Roma's med facilities are strictly meatball, so no help there. New Troy's her only hope if they can get her there in time. Where's a hypersonic ramjet passenger plane when you need one? Maybe Doc Silver could rig up a temporary heart Acantha could wear until she can get a legit arti or real one.
Stormwind13 13th Jun 2016, 9:14 AM edit delete reply

I think the treatment Ada just administered can keep Acantha alive for the short term future. Acantha is surviving not living is my read of it. Basically in a coma until they can get her a new heart.
Centcomm 13th Jun 2016, 4:13 PM edit delete reply

Actually stay tuned on that point Old scribe..
Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:32 PM edit delete reply

Actually, Nova Roma trauma centers seemed to be pretty good, from the looks of the rebooted pages.
It might be exactly where she wants to be.
"New heart ? Oh, we got on in the cooler, what color do you want it in?"
Stormwind13 14th Jun 2016, 1:34 PM edit delete reply

Except for the part that it is currently in a Civil War... And that is supposing the Contingencies don't make it a radioactive wasteland... :-p
Gilrandir 14th Jun 2016, 8:22 PM edit delete reply
Given past experience with Nova Roma Med (redux), likely they'd go ahead and implant the heart without doing a type and cross-match for possible tissue rejection. After all, "hearts are standard -- everyone has one." ^_^

On the other hand, I suppose that's still better than putting in a spare set of ovaries where the heart used to be, ^_^
Anonymouth 3rd Apr 2017, 1:29 PM edit delete reply
I've heard that the organ rejection process takes a while to start, and that even an incompatible organ can work for a short time, before the recipient's body starts to break it down enough that it begins to damage the rest of the body.

Of course, the organ would be ruined in the process, meaning that some person who that organ would have been perfect for won't get it, and they might die waiting for the next match. That's almost certainly why UNOS won't approve transplants that aren't a very close match.

If it's possible to grow entire organs from stem cells, shouldn't it be possible to remove Acantha's heart, grow the severed parts back together, and put it back in, in a lot less time than it would take to grow a whole new one?

Just started reading the 12th june and loved the whole journey it took me trough.
Yes I actually went trough it all in pretty much one sitting!
Now I can hardly wait for the next page and the rest of this story to unfold.

Big thanks!

well, be honest, Sheela... Tuna and slippers have ALWAYS played games with your insides, and you need to cut back!

Yeah, I know, you can quit Tuna and slippers any time you want, you just don't want...
NinjaYacdan 13th Jun 2016, 7:44 PM edit delete reply
It's not the tuna, it's the macadamia nut and ketchup smoothies...
Sheela 14th Jun 2016, 9:08 AM edit delete reply

Ugh don't mention the ketchup smoothies, they, and murderturd burgers, give me so much gas!
Wolfsbane 14th Jun 2016, 9:38 AM edit delete reply

we know...
mjkj 12th Jun 2016, 10:04 PM edit delete reply

I hope Acantha will be fine soon...

A pity she does not have TR's nanites...

Edit: Lynn is so worried about Acantha... "You take care of her, and I will take care of Dolly..."

PS: "ghost" Acantha looks like an angel there: beautiful, all white, and with a halo... - ...only the wings are missing...

Centcomm 13th Jun 2016, 4:15 PM edit delete reply

Aww thats really cool you see her as a Angel in the holo .. very cool indeed.

And yes tis a pity about those Nanos..
Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:34 PM edit delete reply

I'm sure we could get some from Kyle. :)

heh wait.. for .. it.. :D
DLKmusic 13th Jun 2016, 4:56 PM edit delete reply

Prof, you do realize that this means we are gonna blame YOU for the next cliffhanger....

You're off the hook, Dragonrider! At least for now!
Timotheus 12th Jun 2016, 10:09 PM edit delete reply

We have a serious case of REVISION SYNDROME developing here and all readers are advised to go back and read the revised beginning portion of the story before the plot confusion becomes terminal. Things are no longer what they once were and much that we once thought was isn't.
Remember, it's their story and they can do what they want with it. (Honest. They can. Really.)
Mark_L_A 12th Jun 2016, 10:28 PM edit delete reply

I'm on I think my 60th or so time thru. I've spotted a few changes. I"m still looking for more.

Not to mention all the eggs they cracked in order to make a nice omelet. :)

THis has been a wonderful and terrible scene so far!!!
KarToon12 13th Jun 2016, 2:51 PM edit delete reply

She needs a replacement heart....that would be SO ironic if they used her brother's heart as the replacement.
Tokyo Rose 13th Jun 2016, 3:27 PM edit delete reply

His is kind of... extra-crispy right now.
Speedy Marsh 3rd Apr 2017, 1:40 PM edit delete reply
No problem. Just spray a little aloe on it, and Deck's heart be good as ever... which is the real problem.
Timotheus 13th Jun 2016, 3:29 PM edit delete reply

I'm afraid Dec's heart is no longer in what is termed "viable" condition for transplant. (Mayhap for BBQ, but even that is doubtful.)
Sheela 13th Jun 2016, 4:36 PM edit delete reply

I'm sure they could find a surplus heart somewhere .. heck, just look at all those blue armored organ donors walking around all over the place!

And we could always kill Kyle for a heart as well. :)
Stormwind13 13th Jun 2016, 5:56 PM edit delete reply

I'm not as convinced that the Blueboys HAVE hearts, Sheela.
Double_Tap_Jack 13th Jun 2016, 6:59 PM edit delete reply
This Sunday I've read your comic from page one to today. It is by far a high quality endeavor and could be used as the story board for a movie.
Mark_L_A 13th Jun 2016, 7:29 PM edit delete reply

I think it would make one heck of an animated series.

Daz now can do animations. I wonder if this could also be done as a motion comic.

If so, I've done some voice acting and narrating in the past and would gladly volunteer my voice and time.
NinjaYacdan 13th Jun 2016, 7:47 PM edit delete reply
Same here!
Romfire 13th Jun 2016, 9:55 PM edit delete reply
The medical analysis showed the knife had injured the Aorta. That is the main artery leaving the heart. It is not the heart itself. So the heart should be fine if they can patch the aorta.
A M.A.S.H episode had such an operation, so they were doing them in the 1960s. Keeping blood from filling the pericardium is a concern, as is lung function, but the treatments they have given should have taken care of that. With the support systems they have, any of the medical centers in Nova Roma should do for such an operation. That is assuming they are not nuked into oblivion before that can happen.
Mark_L_A 13th Jun 2016, 10:22 PM edit delete reply

Also the upper lobe of her left lung. Lot of capillaries in there, she could drown in her own blood if she is not monitored properly. Unless Ada's gear includes a small Heart/Lung or just a Lung machine.
Guest 14th Jun 2016, 9:35 AM edit delete reply
The blood in Acantha's hair is a very nice bit of detail.
