To who is she referring? Ceci who wants to protect "Mommy" or Centcomm or who? Tune in again folks same time same station on Monday night. The evil duo need the weekend to plot, scheme and plan to "Take Over The World Pinky."
DLKmusic 30th Jun 2016, 9:07 PM edit delete reply

I will eat one of my socks from last week if she isn't talking about Ceci!!!!

(get's the salt and ketchup ready just in case)

Timotheus 30th Jun 2016, 9:26 PM edit delete reply

Of course it's Ceci(sparked). Rose has been talking to her since she arrived in Nova Roma and knows her well. If anything can disrupt a Trojan Horse program, it's another Trojan Horse program inside it.
Thomas 1st Jul 2016, 4:19 AM edit delete reply
DLK if it's not ceci I will join you and eat a pair of my dirty underwear. I think we're safe though.
Centcomm 1st Jul 2016, 8:10 AM edit delete reply

Just go to the Comic fury main site. The link is at the bottom of the page - And if enough people get accounts and log in then maybe we can get Datachasers onto the popular overall page!
Jarin 30th Jun 2016, 9:45 PM edit delete reply
It had BETTER be Ceci. I was so ticked when she was deleted.
Stormwind13 1st Jul 2016, 4:54 AM edit delete reply

You and I both, Jarin. I don't dare hope that we are getting sweet CeCi back! For fear the EVIL duo will throw a nasty curve into proceedings. :-7
TheSkulker 30th Jun 2016, 9:05 PM edit delete reply

You didn't really think it was going to easy did you? It's going to take at least two weeks of cliff hangers to settle this!
Stormwind13 2nd Jul 2016, 9:59 AM edit delete reply

I think we are going to be NOTHING but cliffhangers from here on out, Skulker. :-p
TheSkulker 2nd Jul 2016, 11:03 PM edit delete reply

If so, that will be a LOT of cliffhangers!

Didn't Centcomm say this this was only part one of a three part story that we were only about halfway through at the time? Since DC started in Feb 2007, that means at least 20 YEARS of cliffhangers!

Don't know if our hearts and blood pressure could take that. I think we will need some of New Troy's rejuvenating medical technology to get us all trough.
Stormwind13 3rd Jul 2016, 7:06 AM edit delete reply

I think she was talking about ideas for other arcs, Skulker. I'm pretty sure THIS arc is nearing completion. And will be nothing but cliffhangers until it ends (or kills all of the readers off from the suspense).

How will Ceci deal with the memories of what Watchdog did when she's restored?
Morituri 2nd Jul 2016, 2:03 PM edit delete reply
Denial usually works. If not, then she should consider rage. Rage is sometimes a helpful option. Cathartic even. And let's face it, Ceci is well equipped for rage.
Sheela 3rd Jul 2016, 8:50 AM edit delete reply

Alternatively, she could withdraw and watch Anime with feels in them.
Guest 30th Jun 2016, 9:37 PM edit delete reply
Cici is still in there!!!! Iknewit,Iknewit,Iknewit!!:)
Guest 30th Jun 2016, 10:03 PM edit delete reply
More or less, but she was in a risky place.

Especially if android data matrixes act more like current SSDs then current HDDs. HDDs just delete the headers while keeping data intact until overwritten, SSDs will actively purge data to make room for new data. Not impossible to recover from, but requires lower-level access.

There still will problably be some reconstruction required.
Morituri 1st Jul 2016, 7:22 PM edit delete reply
At the risk of nerding out on you, you got that reversed. Sort of.

When you tell a hard drive to *write* a particular sector, it always writes to the same place. So anything that used to occupy that sector is gone. So operating systems usually implement deletion by overwriting the file headers to say that space is available, but don't go on to actually overwrite the space until someone tells it to write something else there. This is why 'recovery' etc. programs work; they periodically scan file headers, so they can restore the headers to whatever not-yet-overwritten file is still on there.

SSD's on the other hand continually remap their physical storage; write at the same address after deleting something, and it goes to a completely different location in the physical media. This is for load-leveling, because a particular area of an SSD is only good for a limited number of writes. The drive always uses the least-written area it has available, for purposes of maximum reliability.

The problem though is that that original data you tried to overwrite - which you would have overwritten on a hard drive - is still there, until the whole SSD has been overwritten at least once and it comes around on the next pass. Normal recovery programs don't work on them because the remapping means the headers you recover will point at a different place when you put them back. But the data is still there, and somebody with a serious set of forensic tools can still find it.

This becomes a genuine pain in the ass when you're trying to write secure software that doesn't ever leak secrets - from SSH keys to browser caches to certificates to naked pictures, it is all still there if somebody actually mounts the drive on a recovery frame and bypasses the controller.

On a hard drive you can overwrite it to protect secrets, but on an SSD you pretty much can't.
Sheela 2nd Jul 2016, 11:30 AM edit delete reply

Actually, between the sectors on a harddrive, there is a little space left unused, to make sure the data sectors don't bleed into one another, and with the right hardware, you can sort of "read the bleed" into those "empty" areas, and thus recreatte lost data, even if the sector was overwritten - Provided that it wasn't too long ago it happened.

Mind you, the hardware for that is insanely expensive, and the companies that do it, and last I checked they take about 1500 usd per megabyte extracted.

Expensive stuff !

*Happy dance, HAPPY DANCE*
DLKmusic 30th Jun 2016, 10:56 PM edit delete reply

Knowing the evil duo as well as we do, it's still a little early to do the happy dance...

(although I am pulling my dancing shoes out of the closet, lol)
Stormwind13 1st Jul 2016, 7:26 AM edit delete reply

I'm with you DLK. The EVIL duo still have some screwballs to throw before this saga ends, I think. So it is premature to be dancing (finding dancing shoes though isn't a bad thought).

Dragonrider 30th Jun 2016, 10:53 PM edit delete reply

If that is Ceci and she is brought back, restored to pre Watchdog then sent to catch up to Dolly and Company I can just hear it now.

Ceci: Mommy-Mommy I'm back, Miss Rose got rid of Watchdog and all the nasty Centcomm programs...Mommy! You're Hurt, who did this to my Mommy, WHO? Sis move over let me carry Mommy so she doesn't hurt her leg more.

Dolly: Uhhh Ceci, is that really you?

Lynn: I'm completely confused who's Watchdog, why are you Mommy and why am I Sis?

TeeDee: Just when I thought this Cluster Fuck couldn't get any weirder...

Ada: You get to write the report when we get back, S&R will never believe this.

*Later* At Dolly's ship taking off, Direct line to Calliope from Dolly. Package picked up safe and sound enroute back have life team ready to receive Princess Acantha for heart transplant. Need you to meet me on arrival to run interference with Centcomm for my, Don't Ask, new daughter and Lynns new big sister, Cally I said don't ask I'll explain it when we get to New Troy and the apartment.
HiFranc 30th Jun 2016, 11:55 PM edit delete reply

Ceci doesn't want to go back to New Troy. Come to think of it, I suspect that Dolly will want to take a BREAK in a certain bar on the way back. She and Ceci may even decide to stay there.
Thomas 1st Jul 2016, 4:28 AM edit delete reply
No way will Dolly decide to stay out of new Troy permanently. The only way she'll do that is if Lynn and calliope take up residency there. She is way too dedicated.
HiFranc 1st Jul 2016, 2:11 PM edit delete reply

Lynn wants to become a pilot so I can see her finding the idea appealing. In fact I think those 3 would make the perfect mobile firefighting team for Centcomm. However, she may want Marcus, TeeDee, Ada and Dr Silver to stay with them.
HiFranc 1st Jul 2016, 12:03 AM edit delete reply

I doubt Ceci will want to go back either as Centcomm never planned on her having a long life. That fear would be enhanced when comparing notes with TeeDee (assuming both survive and have a chance to chat).
Sheela 1st Jul 2016, 7:43 AM edit delete reply

And we finally figure out what Logrin was made for, he will become CeCi's new daddy, won't he ?

That way she can also get to explore the world, and see those things that go like WHOA!
Sleel 30th Jun 2016, 10:56 PM edit delete reply

YISSSS!. Save her Tokyo. Keep Cent from making her just a murderbot. Gimme my Cici back. \o/ *does hopeful happy dance of invocation*
Timotheus 30th Jun 2016, 11:22 PM edit delete reply

What I'm waiting to hear is how much this is going to cost us. (A deal is a deal, but you'd better be willing to take installment payments.)
HiFranc 30th Jun 2016, 11:48 PM edit delete reply

Ceci dies in order to save Dolly?
DLKmusic 1st Jul 2016, 12:17 AM edit delete reply

we could all start by upping our pledges of Patreon.... They're just shy of the 250 mark (249, I believe), now let's see how close we can get them to the 500 mark!
Centcomm 1st Jul 2016, 8:11 AM edit delete reply

Hey that would be really really helpful. Considering recent events.
Pirtnac 1st Jul 2016, 12:25 AM edit delete reply
How are the comments going to go? They're going to go "Squeeeeeeeee!" with the sound continuing until Monday. On Monday, (when we fully expect Ceci to be delivered, please provide a tracking number in advance) the squeee shall continue, but perhaps become hypersonic.

Also, as a Canadian, I typically don't get fireworks for the 4th. Now I have to.
Tokyo Rose 1st Jul 2016, 1:18 AM edit delete reply

Last time y'all had fireworks, you set fire to our presidential residence! /shakes fist

Okay, creative duo. We're not sayin' there's any connection between makin' noises like you're bringin' CeCi back outta the 'bit bucket' and breakin' inta the Top 10 ... I'm just sayin', y'know. ^_^

(If we're sayin' "It's super," is that the same thing as a Super Saiyan? I'm just sayin' ...)

Bring Ceci back!!!
Morituri 1st Jul 2016, 6:14 PM edit delete reply
Ceci : I got deleted, but I'm all better now!

Dolly: Wait... how, exactly, did that happen?

Ceci: I made a new friend!

Dolly: You made a new friend ... after you got deleted?!

Ceci: Yeah, I guess so.

Dolly: .... Who are you really?
StellarJay 2nd Jul 2016, 1:02 AM edit delete reply

Oh, my goodness! Now I have Monty Python and the Holy Grail in my head:

"And we mourn for our poor Ceci after she was erased..."

"I'm not erased yet! I was only deleted!"

"And after our poor Ceci was trashed and deleted..."

"I'm getting better!"
Morituri 2nd Jul 2016, 12:52 PM edit delete reply
And here I was quoting Buckaroo Banzai.

"I got ionized, but I'm okay now!"

... How does that work again? ...
Romfire 1st Jul 2016, 7:11 PM edit delete reply
As absolutely elated as I am, will be to have Ceci back. I doubt that Rose is restoring her just to elate us readers. What the AIs need is legs on the ground to break into, hack into, access, shut down and or destroy the contingencies. That the legs on the ground happen to be quite attractive and packing around a battle frame is a neat bonus. The combined access code and knowledge of the types of systems held between Rose, the treasure, Aeneas and anything Ceci gets to keep from Centcomm should make a huge difference in the end of the world prevention campaign. I can't think of a better way to help Mommy than to help stop any warheads from landing on her.
An early thank you so much to you writers. It really must be Christmas and my birthday at the same time.
Thundarl 1st Jul 2016, 10:36 PM edit delete reply

I reserve the right to do a happy dance once we know for sure that Rose can bring our nicer Ceci back!
CptKerion 1st Jul 2016, 11:33 PM edit delete reply

Is it just me, or does it look like there are arrows (information) flowing off of Tokyo Rose to (Not) CeCi in the first panel? And a trickle (3 small arrows) coming back?
Centcomm 3rd Jul 2016, 10:10 AM edit delete reply

wondering if anyone would spot that..
Gilrandir 3rd Jul 2016, 11:54 AM edit delete reply
I was wondering what the significance was of having both solid and hollow arrows pointing in both directions, as well as whether the fact that the solid arrows appear to generally trend downward in size as they go from Rose to CeCi was meaningful or just an accident of the art?
Timotheus 3rd Jul 2016, 2:51 PM edit delete reply
