Well Krissy can relax for the moment... Data Chasers is about 250 behind fifth place and about 300 behind fourth. :-7 So not going to be easy to catch.
Understood. I'm just amused by the thought of @Tokyo Rose frantically refreshing on multiple IPs and voting against Data Chasers, all while thinking "If I can just get our rank number high enough, they'll stop comparing us with the Foglio's and I can go back under my desk!" ^_^
Of course, this is probably doing @Tokyo Rose a horrible injustice, for which I undoubtedly owe an apology -- but I struggle to find my amusement where I can between Data Chasers updates, so I hope I will be forgiven. ^_^
I suspect (just my unfounded conjecture) that LunaCom monitors sub-orbital and ballistic trajectories in an attempt to provide some missile intercept capacity in case a hot war should break out. Which leaves open the question of how that would have interacted with Samson, had Samson gone into effect. But, I expect that, with just a single flight of fast-movers headed for New Troy, LunaCom would definitely be ... a factor. Better to avoid possible misunderstandings -- which opens the question did Tokyo Rose clear Kyle's flight plan with them when he was covering that trajectory in the reverse direction, or did she just keep his flight path more consistent with typical commercial air traffic? Or just decide to roll the dice and hope they didn't blow him out of the sky? ^_^
I was going to say, the sky was blue, not black so Kyle was clearly still in the atmosphere. Luna leaves that alone (well unless someone attacks them then it is ROCKS AWAY) so he didn't need to clear it with them.
Noctis is self taught. Remember the killer hairstyle she gave the lady that she turned into a butterfly? It was so radical, it had the lady swinging from the chandelier!
How many does a Dart hold? From the picture here, it kind of looks like another 2+2 craft. I suppose if they get Kyle to hand over the keys to his pride and joy, he and Lynn can get lots of extra quality 'snuggle-time' while Ada, TeeDee, Acantha, and Noctis take the suborbital route back to New Troy. Or it may have more capacity than it looks to have-- however since we can see Kyle's figure to give it scale, I'm not sure where they go.
It does look like there's a lot of space unaccounted for in the nose of the craft -- possibly for luggage. Maybe they stuff Acantha in there to clear up that fourth spot so Kyle can fly his own ship. ^_^
You think Kyle would leave Lynn behind alone as a hostage if he didn't have to? He'd sign over ownership if that's what it took to make Lynn happy, but I'm sure loaning it will be just fine.
Lynn's not alone as long as Dolly (even injured) is with her. Yes, I suspect Kyle could be persuaded to fly (without Lynn) to save Acantha's life, if that were the best choice. However, I agree he can probably be persuaded to surrender the keys, if that is the best choice.
TeeDee's small -- maybe she goes in the luggage rack? ^_^
She already broke in once, installed a robo surgeon for plastic surgery, and by now may well have a new heart ready for transplant in a freezer. As I said "Keys? We don need no F'n keys, Gringo."
She didn't install a robo surgeon in his craft. She arranged a pit-stop in the Wastes for the operation -- see "Kyle...", presently http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/926/
I believe that the legitimacy of the government commandeering transportation or supplies in an emergency is well established. The government is well represented between Marcus and Noctis. If available, I suspect that Kyle would be asked on a pro forma basis, but I don't see any problem. Compensation for the commandeering could be discussed at a later time, but I don't see that as much of an issue. If Noctis and Marcus state that commandeering a vehicle because of an emergency is required, would you want to argue with them. This is definitely a case where it is better to act without permission and ask for forgiveness later. (Note that I didn't say that it was easier. Who cares if it's easier? Better is the word that I was originally taught.)
You know, Kyle is immediately available to ask, right? Rather than just have putatively honorable characters help themselves to his vehicle because it's "fun to make Kyle suffer", you could just ask him. I'm sure, if Lynn asked him, he'd be happy to loan the vehicle.
"How do you ask him?" (You ask. ^_^) You just get Tokyo Rose to call him up with 'FaceTime'. ^_^
I'm not sure if it was a concern about CONTACTING CentComm or getting her to commit another S&R team to an incredibly long range and crazily dangerous mission INTO another city state. Marcus is much more confident that he can get her to commit military assets up to (but not into) another city state.
No, I belive they snuck out on Dolly... or told her something different (like going to the beach - or the equivalent of that - all within the safety of the city and not in or crossing the wastes) and went to space...
It was the first time Lynn was flying there alone without Dolly being in New Sparta with her...
I think this is the first time that the parents knowing that their daughter is of legal age is going to be alone with a guy for any length of time. However if they didn't know he had suborbital capabilities or heck maybe even full orbital capabilities. They would have assumed the trip that took over land a certain amount of time wouldn't be surprised by a shorter trip. Also don't forget that Sparta where Kyle is from it's much less of a nanny state. Also that Kyle's parents are really powerful people. So while they may care about their son because they are much less of a nanny state they are much more confident in his ability to not totally fuck things up. Even though he did a really good job of it on this trip.
Also while I did not have to contend with radar growing up, I did do many things that I hid from my mom while I was growing up. They were definitely quite a few "It's better to ask for forgiveness" type of events that I took part in. I also didn't fuck most of them up so it didn't become a problem. My mom was a little underjoyed that I had bicycled 15 miles to several local towns prior to being old enough to drive. Even after I was old enough to drive, it was before cell phones and GPS's so you had to call in from places with pay phones of which there were not that man. And we were not rich enough to have multiple cars so I was usually out with somebody else driving.
If people didn't helicopter parent and instead made their kid responsible for their own actions however stupid they may be. Then I guess we would probably have a lot less BS that we have to deal with. Get kids into stuff where they have to take ownership for the stuff they do at an earlier age and that will pass through into their regular life because they like to keep doing those things. However when they fuck up, and they will. Make sure you let them know that they fucked up in no uncertain terms. None of this pandering stuff for you can't hit your kids when they are young. Fear is an awful good motivator if done correctly. Create consequences for actions and stick to them.
You're forgetting that it was quite common for Generation X to be alone for long periods. For a Gen Xer I'm on the risk adverse end of the scale but, considering the responses of some younger former colleagues, I feel that risk is not properly communicated.
Noctis, the Lord General (Regent), Dolly, TeeDee and Ada... I would not want to be whatever got in their way trying to prevent them reaching the Dart mjkj. =O That isn't even counting Marcus or Doctor Silver and her orbs which might show up too.
Sheela is going to be overjoyed, I think, because Kyle is going to die of embarrassment. I think people are forgetting whose voice the Dart is programmed with. And this time Ada, Noctis and Acantha (who despite being in hibernation may STILL be able to hear. Hearing is the last sense to shutdown and they have had instances of 'dead' people hearing rescuers talking about continuing CPR or giving up for lack of response) will be getting to listen to Lynn's voice. One of them is likely to ask an awkward question later, and Kyle will die from the embarrassment. :-D
So, now I'm probably overthinking this, but it seems to me that there is a flaw in the proposed plan from Noctis' perspective that she hasn't pointed out.
She now knows that there are two cyberpaths in the New Troy force, "Silver" & "The Specialist", and that she is in range of at least one of them right now. (It's unlikely they could be animating the head if they weren't in range.) Since Noctis is on record as stating that she believes a cyberpath could subvert her (or another Cassian), body and soul (though we have been told that this is probably not true, in fact), logic suggests that she should advise Maxus of this risk and nominate a better bodyguard for Acantha. Someone, perhaps, less formidable in purely physical combat, but better armored against a known weapon the New Troy forces have at their disposal and against which she (supposedly) has no defense.
Or, maybe we'll get to see her wearing an adorable little tin-foil hat? ^_^ Alternatively, maybe they have already taken her over and are keeping her from mentioning it! ^_^
At this points, their best defense is frankly to be as willing to coorporate with New Troy as possible.
If New Troy wanted them down, they could simply extract Lynn and then send an army of drones. There's not really anything left that New Rome can do against New Troy.
Making friends is best.
And Acantha and Lynn is already friends, so they are the best chance they have.
Noctis actually thinks that Tokyo Rose is just using Nox's head (or rather, its built-in communications hardware) as a relay. (Note that Nox's mouth and eyes have not moved; she's not animating the head somehow.)
She's making a wireless connection to hardware that is normally (I assume) controlled only by a dedicated, hard-wired controller (synthbrain direct to voder). In my opinion, if she isn't thinking cyberpath, she should be. Either that, or someone got a hold of Nox and added some hardware modifications.
As amusing as it might be to imagine that all Cassians are designed for wireless remote control over their voice boxes (imagine the fun you could have at parties), it's hard to imagine any reason to design that feature into them.
Just the thought that there is a Cyberpath in range of New Roma, is enough to spoil Noctis' mood - Never mind two of them!
If someone told her that Tokyo Rose haven't even moved for several hundred years, and that she basically have unlimited range, probably wouldn't improve her mood.
Just think what the knowledge she handled all of Aeneas resources by her lonesome while imitating a human popsicle several thousand miles away would do for her composure.
Actually, it could be done potentially in a variety of ways. If Rose had access to a strong enough signal, she could potentially turn Nox's head into some kind of 'crystal' radio. Since Rose is widely believed to be an AI and has access to another AI (Aeneas), power wouldn't be an issue. For that matter, there could be repeating circuits (we know that Aeneas has circuits into the Palace) or even small drones (we have seen a small camera drone already) nearby to boost any signals Rose needs to send.
And hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Got plenty to eat.
Does Logrin like Dusty ?
Woot Woot!
it's Freaking Phil and Kaja Foglio! I mean, C.mon!
Although for the past 2 months, Datachasers has been in the conversation BIG time, & I'm all for keeping it there!
Of course, this is probably doing @Tokyo Rose a horrible injustice, for which I undoubtedly owe an apology -- but I struggle to find my amusement where I can between Data Chasers updates, so I hope I will be forgiven. ^_^
Though we have dropped to 6th place, that's still pretty darn high!
Fifi the Cassian, who's specialty is in style and aesthetics... She currently lords over the Nova Roman Fashion police with an Iron whip!
There will be punishment
May the LORD have mercy on my soul....
Also, how does an iron whip work? Is it anything like a chain?
It does look like there's a lot of space unaccounted for in the nose of the craft -- possibly for luggage. Maybe they stuff Acantha in there to clear up that fourth spot so Kyle can fly his own ship. ^_^
TeeDee's small -- maybe she goes in the luggage rack? ^_^
Just because Rose can steal his vehicle doesn't mean she necessarily will without first trying more civilized methods.
"How do you ask him?" (You ask. ^_^) You just get Tokyo Rose to call him up with 'FaceTime'. ^_^
This makes no sense!
Speaking of face, Rose doesn't use FaceTime. Rose uses IN Your Face Time! Which she will be using on Kyle soon I predict.
Especially when you compare it to "Face" that they have in China.

Now they only have to get to it...
Right now she is probably thinking, "That's IT. Dolly is going to kick my butt once we're home and Acantha is better."
I like the sound of that. :)

Logic, Noctis likes it.

Edit : Is it Rose who's getting head from Nox, or Nox that's being given head by Rose ?
Are you guys watching Westworld? If so, does it remind you of your own robot creations??
