Yay, another new page.

And hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Got plenty to eat.

Yep rose made her famous beef stew!
Dragonrider 24th Nov 2016, 9:05 PM edit delete reply

Now if Wesley err I mean Kyle doesn't have to accompany them, oh wait he could be the hood ornament
Centcomm 26th Nov 2016, 1:32 PM edit delete reply

Hey could!!! that would be fun!
Gilrandir 24th Nov 2016, 9:15 PM edit delete reply
"Magic 8-ball ... how did Kyle get here?" ^_^
Tokyo Rose 24th Nov 2016, 9:35 PM edit delete reply

"SIGNS POINT TO 'STOP FUCKING SHAKING THIS THING ALREADY', DUMBASS."
Gilrandir 24th Nov 2016, 9:39 PM edit delete reply
See! You could have gone with that dialogue in the comic. ^_^
Pirtnac 25th Nov 2016, 12:10 AM edit delete reply
I think Nox's head has turned in to something more like a magic hate ball with that kind of dialogue. I suspect she'd approve.
Sheela 25th Nov 2016, 3:19 AM edit delete reply

*shake shake shake*

Does Logrin like Dusty ?
Centcomm 26th Nov 2016, 1:38 PM edit delete reply

Tokyo Rose 26th Nov 2016, 3:13 PM edit delete reply

"LOGRIN THINKS OF DUSTY LIKE A DAUGHTER, YOU DIRTY-MINDED PERVERTS"
Sheela 26th Nov 2016, 8:01 PM edit delete reply

Dusty won't be happy to hear that !
Haegan2005 24th Nov 2016, 9:20 PM edit delete reply

So when I posted this DC was at #4 on Top Web Comics.

Woot Woot!
Sheela 25th Nov 2016, 3:20 AM edit delete reply

Even beating Girl Genius!
Stormwind13 25th Nov 2016, 8:22 AM edit delete reply

Three time Hugo Winner, Girl Genius, Sheela. :-D (Pointing out to Krissy so she can't hide under a rock).
DLKmusic (at work) 25th Nov 2016, 1:21 PM edit delete reply
Here's a paper bag if you need it, Krissy!
Tokyo Rose 26th Nov 2016, 3:13 PM edit delete reply

GYAH
Stormwind13 27th Nov 2016, 8:03 AM edit delete reply

Well Krissy can relax for the moment... Data Chasers is about 250 behind fifth place and about 300 behind fourth. :-7 So not going to be easy to catch.
Sheela 27th Nov 2016, 5:57 PM edit delete reply

Sounds like Rose have been busy voting for the other comics. :D
Gilrandir 25th Nov 2016, 7:23 PM edit delete reply
@Tokyo Rose! Stop voting for Girl Genius! ^_^
DLKmusic 25th Nov 2016, 9:31 PM edit delete reply

Hate to say it, Gil, but I don't think any of us Foglio fans can do that...

it's Freaking Phil and Kaja Foglio! I mean, C.mon!

Although for the past 2 months, Datachasers has been in the conversation BIG time, & I'm all for keeping it there!
Gilrandir 25th Nov 2016, 10:00 PM edit delete reply
Understood. I'm just amused by the thought of @Tokyo Rose frantically refreshing on multiple IPs and voting against Data Chasers, all while thinking "If I can just get our rank number high enough, they'll stop comparing us with the Foglio's and I can go back under my desk!" ^_^

Of course, this is probably doing @Tokyo Rose a horrible injustice, for which I undoubtedly owe an apology -- but I struggle to find my amusement where I can between Data Chasers updates, so I hope I will be forgiven. ^_^
Sheela 25th Nov 2016, 10:18 PM edit delete reply

Heh, knowing Rose, she's probably hyperventilating into a paper bag.
Centcomm 26th Nov 2016, 1:39 PM edit delete reply

heh yeah i sent her a pic showing her ranking she was glaring at me the entire night when i mentioned it.. :D
Sheela 26th Nov 2016, 2:03 PM edit delete reply

Ha ha ha, good .. give her hell Centy. :)

Though we have dropped to 6th place, that's still pretty darn high!
Mark_L_A 1st Dec 2016, 9:42 PM edit delete reply

I'm just waiting for CeCi or Dolly to make an appearance of GG.
jamie59 24th Nov 2016, 9:22 PM edit delete reply

What would Luna care about low orbit stuff? Do they claim every thing outside of the atmosphere?
JacobJSebastian 24th Nov 2016, 9:28 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, they really do.
Tokyo Rose 24th Nov 2016, 9:37 PM edit delete reply

They may not specifically claim it, but they can sure enforce their will on it.
Gilrandir 24th Nov 2016, 9:47 PM edit delete reply
I suspect (just my unfounded conjecture) that LunaCom monitors sub-orbital and ballistic trajectories in an attempt to provide some missile intercept capacity in case a hot war should break out. Which leaves open the question of how that would have interacted with Samson, had Samson gone into effect. But, I expect that, with just a single flight of fast-movers headed for New Troy, LunaCom would definitely be ... a factor. Better to avoid possible misunderstandings -- which opens the question did Tokyo Rose clear Kyle's flight plan with them when he was covering that trajectory in the reverse direction, or did she just keep his flight path more consistent with typical commercial air traffic? Or just decide to roll the dice and hope they didn't blow him out of the sky? ^_^
Centcomm 24th Nov 2016, 10:24 PM edit delete reply

His flight kept under the line. So luna didn't mind.
Stormwind13 25th Nov 2016, 8:03 AM edit delete reply

I was going to say, the sky was blue, not black so Kyle was clearly still in the atmosphere. Luna leaves that alone (well unless someone attacks them then it is ROCKS AWAY) so he didn't need to clear it with them.
Centcomm 26th Nov 2016, 1:40 PM edit delete reply

Yes Kyle kept to a below orbital path. Ada plans to bounce and arc down in a very fast approach The Dart is a Luna built sports craft.
Stormwind13 24th Nov 2016, 9:29 PM edit delete reply

Well sounds like Acantha will have to endure blood in her hair. Somehow I can't see Noctis being trained in hairstyling.
Centcomm 26th Nov 2016, 1:41 PM edit delete reply

Yes things like that are generally bottom of the barrel

Just learn to sleep through most of the episode, and wake up in time to watch the ending, when some contestant's dream is crushed.

Also, how does an iron whip work? Is it anything like a chain?
Tokyo Rose 27th Nov 2016, 9:26 PM edit delete reply

I'm thinking a steel cable, personally.
Sheela 28th Nov 2016, 10:37 AM edit delete reply

Or maybe a chain of a sort ?
Speedy Marsh 5th Apr 2017, 6:16 PM edit delete reply
Noctis is self taught. Remember the killer hairstyle she gave the lady that she turned into a butterfly? It was so radical, it had the lady swinging from the chandelier!
Gilrandir 24th Nov 2016, 9:31 PM edit delete reply
How many does a Dart hold? From the picture here, it kind of looks like another 2+2 craft. I suppose if they get Kyle to hand over the keys to his pride and joy, he and Lynn can get lots of extra quality 'snuggle-time' while Ada, TeeDee, Acantha, and Noctis take the suborbital route back to New Troy. Or it may have more capacity than it looks to have-- however since we can see Kyle's figure to give it scale, I'm not sure where they go.

It does look like there's a lot of space unaccounted for in the nose of the craft -- possibly for luggage. Maybe they stuff Acantha in there to clear up that fourth spot so Kyle can fly his own ship. ^_^
Timotheus 24th Nov 2016, 9:44 PM edit delete reply

You think Kyle would leave Lynn behind alone as a hostage if he didn't have to? He'd sign over ownership if that's what it took to make Lynn happy, but I'm sure loaning it will be just fine.
Gilrandir 24th Nov 2016, 9:49 PM edit delete reply
Lynn's not alone as long as Dolly (even injured) is with her. Yes, I suspect Kyle could be persuaded to fly (without Lynn) to save Acantha's life, if that were the best choice. However, I agree he can probably be persuaded to surrender the keys, if that is the best choice.

TeeDee's small -- maybe she goes in the luggage rack? ^_^
Dragonrider 24th Nov 2016, 11:05 PM edit delete reply

Agree to surrender the keys? Hell Rose has it hot wired already, We don need no F'n keys.
Gilrandir 24th Nov 2016, 11:43 PM edit delete reply
Another Foglio reference: "Why won't anyone believe I have professional standards?"

Just because Rose can steal his vehicle doesn't mean she necessarily will without first trying more civilized methods.
Dragonrider 25th Nov 2016, 12:35 AM edit delete reply

She already broke in once, installed a robo surgeon for plastic surgery, and by now may well have a new heart ready for transplant in a freezer. As I said "Keys? We don need no F'n keys, Gringo."
Sheela 25th Nov 2016, 3:23 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, Rose can start the little craft with ease, and Ada has a pilots implant - Getting the Dart going shouldn't pose any problem between the two.
antrik 25th Nov 2016, 5:28 PM edit delete reply
She didn't install a robo surgeon in his craft. She arranged a pit-stop in the Wastes for the operation -- see "Kyle...", presently http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/926/
Naldru 25th Nov 2016, 6:52 PM edit delete reply
I believe that the legitimacy of the government commandeering transportation or supplies in an emergency is well established. The government is well represented between Marcus and Noctis. If available, I suspect that Kyle would be asked on a pro forma basis, but I don't see any problem. Compensation for the commandeering could be discussed at a later time, but I don't see that as much of an issue. If Noctis and Marcus state that commandeering a vehicle because of an emergency is required, would you want to argue with them. This is definitely a case where it is better to act without permission and ask for forgiveness later. (Note that I didn't say that it was easier. Who cares if it's easier? Better is the word that I was originally taught.)
Gilrandir 25th Nov 2016, 7:19 PM edit delete reply
You know, Kyle is immediately available to ask, right? Rather than just have putatively honorable characters help themselves to his vehicle because it's "fun to make Kyle suffer", you could just ask him. I'm sure, if Lynn asked him, he'd be happy to loan the vehicle.

"How do you ask him?" (You ask. ^_^) You just get Tokyo Rose to call him up with 'FaceTime'. ^_^
Sheela 26th Nov 2016, 2:04 PM edit delete reply

But .. why ask Kyle, when we can just kill him instead ?

This makes no sense!
Guest 26th Nov 2016, 2:30 PM edit delete reply
Probably not happening, Sheela. Rose is NOT done yelling at him for his stupidity while facing Douchimus.

Speaking of face, Rose doesn't use FaceTime. Rose uses IN Your Face Time! Which she will be using on Kyle soon I predict.
Stormwind13 26th Nov 2016, 3:25 PM edit delete reply

That Guest was me, but apparently I was signed out and didn't realize it.
Sheela 26th Nov 2016, 8:05 PM edit delete reply

Hah, "IN Your Face Time", I like it!
Especially when you compare it to "Face" that they have in China.
Gilrandir 26th Nov 2016, 9:25 PM edit delete reply
I was actually making reference to the fact that they are using Nox's face to talk to Tokyo Rose.
Ryu Santos 26th Nov 2016, 11:12 PM edit delete reply

Makes perfect sense to me. Why kill him when you can make him stew.
Sheela 28th Nov 2016, 10:37 AM edit delete reply

Ooohh, a Kyle stew!
Gilrandir 24th Nov 2016, 9:56 PM edit delete reply
It is interesting that Marcus' confidence in being able to reach CentComm appears to have jumped markedly between the previous page and this one.
Stormwind13 25th Nov 2016, 8:09 AM edit delete reply

I'm not sure if it was a concern about CONTACTING CentComm or getting her to commit another S&R team to an incredibly long range and crazily dangerous mission INTO another city state. Marcus is much more confident that he can get her to commit military assets up to (but not into) another city state.
Tokyo Rose 26th Nov 2016, 3:15 PM edit delete reply

Stormwind nailed it. It's not the likelihood of making contact, it's the likelihood of getting a positive response that had made Marcus hesitate. :D
DLKmusic 24th Nov 2016, 10:03 PM edit delete reply

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Now please excuse me while I pass out from my Triptophan overdose!
Ryu Santos 26th Nov 2016, 11:25 PM edit delete reply

You're excused. Fortunately I'm immune to tryptophan.
HiFranc 24th Nov 2016, 11:04 PM edit delete reply

I got the impression that the visit that started this off was the first time that Lynn and Kyle would be alone together?
mjkj 24th Nov 2016, 11:53 PM edit delete reply

No, I belive they snuck out on Dolly... or told her something different (like going to the beach - or the equivalent of that - all within the safety of the city and not in or crossing the wastes) and went to space...

It was the first time Lynn was flying there alone without Dolly being in New Sparta with her...

Just_IDD 25th Nov 2016, 12:05 AM edit delete reply
I think this is the first time that the parents knowing that their daughter is of legal age is going to be alone with a guy for any length of time. However if they didn't know he had suborbital capabilities or heck maybe even full orbital capabilities. They would have assumed the trip that took over land a certain amount of time wouldn't be surprised by a shorter trip. Also don't forget that Sparta where Kyle is from it's much less of a nanny state. Also that Kyle's parents are really powerful people. So while they may care about their son because they are much less of a nanny state they are much more confident in his ability to not totally fuck things up. Even though he did a really good job of it on this trip.
Just_IDD 25th Nov 2016, 12:30 AM edit delete reply
Also while I did not have to contend with radar growing up, I did do many things that I hid from my mom while I was growing up. They were definitely quite a few "It's better to ask for forgiveness" type of events that I took part in. I also didn't fuck most of them up so it didn't become a problem. My mom was a little underjoyed that I had bicycled 15 miles to several local towns prior to being old enough to drive. Even after I was old enough to drive, it was before cell phones and GPS's so you had to call in from places with pay phones of which there were not that man. And we were not rich enough to have multiple cars so I was usually out with somebody else driving.

If people didn't helicopter parent and instead made their kid responsible for their own actions however stupid they may be. Then I guess we would probably have a lot less BS that we have to deal with. Get kids into stuff where they have to take ownership for the stuff they do at an earlier age and that will pass through into their regular life because they like to keep doing those things. However when they fuck up, and they will. Make sure you let them know that they fucked up in no uncertain terms. None of this pandering stuff for you can't hit your kids when they are young. Fear is an awful good motivator if done correctly. Create consequences for actions and stick to them.
HiFranc 25th Nov 2016, 12:59 AM edit delete reply

You're forgetting that it was quite common for Generation X to be alone for long periods. For a Gen Xer I'm on the risk adverse end of the scale but, considering the responses of some younger former colleagues, I feel that risk is not properly communicated.
HiFranc 25th Nov 2016, 1:00 AM edit delete reply

That explains it. I confess that I did not pay much attention to New Sparta.
mjkj 24th Nov 2016, 11:44 PM edit delete reply

Well, great idea, Lynn.

Now they only have to get to it...

Stormwind13 25th Nov 2016, 8:14 AM edit delete reply

Noctis, the Lord General (Regent), Dolly, TeeDee and Ada... I would not want to be whatever got in their way trying to prevent them reaching the Dart mjkj. =O That isn't even counting Marcus or Doctor Silver and her orbs which might show up too.
Sheela 26th Nov 2016, 8:09 PM edit delete reply

Heck, I would not want to be in the way of Maxus, never mind the rest of them - Just him alone is enough.
Mark_L_A 25th Nov 2016, 12:45 AM edit delete reply

And Lynn does her best to shift the conversation away. But she KNOWS Dolly will bring this back up once the situation has normalized.

Right now she is probably thinking, "That's IT. Dolly is going to kick my butt once we're home and Acantha is better."
DLKmusic (at work) 25th Nov 2016, 1:26 PM edit delete reply
At the very least... "Crap! Grounded until I'm 40"
Fairportfan 25th Nov 2016, 1:25 AM edit delete reply

Ah, there's that "Uhhh ... honest, Mom, we didn't do ... well ... anything" response that parental units work so hard to instill.
Stormwind13 25th Nov 2016, 7:43 AM edit delete reply

Sheela is going to be overjoyed, I think, because Kyle is going to die of embarrassment. I think people are forgetting whose voice the Dart is programmed with. And this time Ada, Noctis and Acantha (who despite being in hibernation may STILL be able to hear. Hearing is the last sense to shutdown and they have had instances of 'dead' people hearing rescuers talking about continuing CPR or giving up for lack of response) will be getting to listen to Lynn's voice. One of them is likely to ask an awkward question later, and Kyle will die from the embarrassment. :-D
Dragonrider 25th Nov 2016, 12:57 PM edit delete reply

@ Stormwind13: We can only hope~we can only hope
Haegan2005 25th Nov 2016, 5:09 PM edit delete reply

i had so forgotten about that! lol
Sheela 25th Nov 2016, 10:21 PM edit delete reply

ooOoohh ... death by emberassment !
I like the sound of that. :)
Ryu Santos 26th Nov 2016, 11:38 PM edit delete reply

Kyle's proud of the fact that he has Lynn's voice in the Dart to die of embarrassment.
Gilrandir 25th Nov 2016, 7:42 PM edit delete reply
So, now I'm probably overthinking this, but it seems to me that there is a flaw in the proposed plan from Noctis' perspective that she hasn't pointed out.

She now knows that there are two cyberpaths in the New Troy force, "Silver" & "The Specialist", and that she is in range of at least one of them right now. (It's unlikely they could be animating the head if they weren't in range.) Since Noctis is on record as stating that she believes a cyberpath could subvert her (or another Cassian), body and soul (though we have been told that this is probably not true, in fact), logic suggests that she should advise Maxus of this risk and nominate a better bodyguard for Acantha. Someone, perhaps, less formidable in purely physical combat, but better armored against a known weapon the New Troy forces have at their disposal and against which she (supposedly) has no defense.

Or, maybe we'll get to see her wearing an adorable little tin-foil hat? ^_^ Alternatively, maybe they have already taken her over and are keeping her from mentioning it! ^_^
Sheela 26th Nov 2016, 2:08 PM edit delete reply

At this points, their best defense is frankly to be as willing to coorporate with New Troy as possible.

If New Troy wanted them down, they could simply extract Lynn and then send an army of drones. There's not really anything left that New Rome can do against New Troy.

Making friends is best.
And Acantha and Lynn is already friends, so they are the best chance they have.

Logic, Noctis likes it.
Tokyo Rose 26th Nov 2016, 3:20 PM edit delete reply

Noctis actually thinks that Tokyo Rose is just using Nox's head (or rather, its built-in communications hardware) as a relay. (Note that Nox's mouth and eyes have not moved; she's not animating the head somehow.)
Gilrandir 26th Nov 2016, 3:57 PM edit delete reply
She's making a wireless connection to hardware that is normally (I assume) controlled only by a dedicated, hard-wired controller (synthbrain direct to voder). In my opinion, if she isn't thinking cyberpath, she should be. Either that, or someone got a hold of Nox and added some hardware modifications.

As amusing as it might be to imagine that all Cassians are designed for wireless remote control over their voice boxes (imagine the fun you could have at parties), it's hard to imagine any reason to design that feature into them.
Sheela 26th Nov 2016, 8:17 PM edit delete reply

Just the thought that there is a Cyberpath in range of New Roma, is enough to spoil Noctis' mood - Never mind two of them!

If someone told her that Tokyo Rose haven't even moved for several hundred years, and that she basically have unlimited range, probably wouldn't improve her mood.
Dragonrider 26th Nov 2016, 10:04 PM edit delete reply

Just think what the knowledge she handled all of Aeneas resources by her lonesome while imitating a human popsicle several thousand miles away would do for her composure.
Stormwind13 26th Nov 2016, 10:01 PM edit delete reply

Actually, it could be done potentially in a variety of ways. If Rose had access to a strong enough signal, she could potentially turn Nox's head into some kind of 'crystal' radio. Since Rose is widely believed to be an AI and has access to another AI (Aeneas), power wouldn't be an issue. For that matter, there could be repeating circuits (we know that Aeneas has circuits into the Palace) or even small drones (we have seen a small camera drone already) nearby to boost any signals Rose needs to send.
Sheela 27th Nov 2016, 12:59 AM edit delete reply

I would not be surprised if there was a few hundred small drones scurrying around in the sewers.

Edit : Is it Rose who's getting head from Nox, or Nox that's being given head by Rose ?
