Good news everyone! just got back from my doctors ( cardiologist ) and he did not want to put me back into the hospital. I still have some blockages and one of my grafts have failed but he was able to re-open the RCA again. SO everything is currently able to get blood and stuff! So now its a 3 month wait for the meds to stabilize but its progress!!!

So the mystery of Democlus remains.

And we get to cry over Arianna all over again. She was incredibly brave and loyal. They damn well better put up that statue to her.

Glory to her name
Dragonrider 27th Nov 2016, 9:19 PM edit delete reply

Glory to both their names.

DLKmusic 28th Nov 2016, 6:17 PM edit delete reply

Glory to both their names, Dragonrider, but I'm not convinced that Democlus is dead yet.
Gilrandir 27th Nov 2016, 11:28 PM edit delete reply
Maybe Miraiko made off with Democlus' body and Tokyo Rose is just being withholding again? ^_^
DLKmusic 28th Nov 2016, 12:11 AM edit delete reply

There might be another explaination, Gil, but that's what I've been thinking for a while, actually.

(unless it was Fifi the Fashion Cassian)
Sheela 28th Nov 2016, 10:43 AM edit delete reply

She dressing up all the corpses in the Princes dining hall.

Go Fifi! :D

Who is Democlus, again? He's not on the cast page (and the cast listing isn't text-searchable, but I'm pretty sure he isn't there).
Stormwind13 28th Nov 2016, 12:54 PM edit delete reply

The Princess' bodyguard that stayed behind to slow or stop the pursuit. Who Nox seriously injured/killed on page Lights out 7 October 2015.
Gilrandir 28th Nov 2016, 1:00 PM edit delete reply
Democlus is a centurion who was assigned to guard Princess Acantha for a time. Although this is not his first appearance, he is more-or-less properly introduced here.

He won the approval of most of the audience here and subsequently. (Warning: Spoilers if you haven't read up to this point yet.)
Just_IDD 29th Nov 2016, 2:38 AM edit delete reply
I would say rather than a statue she gets a holiday. People are more likely to remember her and what she did because of that. That's true immortality being always remembered.
Sheela 29th Nov 2016, 5:01 AM edit delete reply

Democlus was also the centurion that Arianna asked out for a dinner ... well, before she died, anyways.
highly irregular 29th Nov 2016, 7:29 AM edit delete reply
Give her both! A holiday and a statue in a nice park to hold picnics in front of. With a parade ground for the holiday.
jamie59 27th Nov 2016, 9:07 PM edit delete reply

That's nice make Lynn the bearer of bad news.
Tokyo Rose 27th Nov 2016, 9:25 PM edit delete reply

Well, Acantha's having a nap and Dolly was kind of busy fighting Kali at the time. Lynn's the only one who can give the details on what happened.
Gilrandir 27th Nov 2016, 11:15 PM edit delete reply
And that, per protocol, Lynn outranks Dolly, so queries should be directed to her first, anyway. Most people would not care for such things ... but I have always been glad that Maxus is not 'most people'. ^_^
HiFranc 27th Nov 2016, 11:05 PM edit delete reply

Add to that that she has earned Max's trust.
Sheela 28th Nov 2016, 10:44 AM edit delete reply

Frankly, I think it's kinda the other way around, it's Maxus that has earned her trust.

But then, Maxus is an upstanding guy in that regard. :)
Dragonrider 27th Nov 2016, 9:17 PM edit delete reply

It is a good thing for Douche Bagous he died as he did. Maxus would have made the death much longer and extremely much more painful. Granted having your guts ripped out and incinerated isn't pleasant but compared to the alternative much preferable.
CptKerion 27th Nov 2016, 10:20 PM edit delete reply
the alternative is the same thing, but much slower.
Gilrandir 27th Nov 2016, 11:17 PM edit delete reply
I remind you of the Terry Pratchett reference regarding the difference between facing death at the hands of a good man or an evil one. If someone was going to torture Decimus to death, I'd bet money it wouldn't be Maxus.
Dragonrider 27th Nov 2016, 11:29 PM edit delete reply

@Gilrander: Who said torture? He would beat Douche Bagous to death with his fists.
Gilrandir 27th Nov 2016, 11:37 PM edit delete reply
"... much longer and extremely much more painful ..." was the quote, I believe. Sounds to me like torture is being implied there. Of course, if I am wrong, my apologies. ^_^
Dragonrider 28th Nov 2016, 9:29 AM edit delete reply

I didn't say it would be one~two~Into the blue. Remember how long he took with the pugil sticks, multiply that by a factor of 10. He warned Douche Bagous what to expect the next time. Again Douche Bagous did not receive 1/100th of what he deserved, Kali was way-way too merciful. Besides Maxus would have kept him alive so the Armageddon Option did not activate. In a coma most likely but alive and in pain.
Gilrandir 28th Nov 2016, 9:44 AM edit delete reply
During the 'training session' (in my opinion), pain was a desired component so as to reinforce the lesson being taught -- however the only reason for the pain was to ensure that the lesson was heeded because Decimus was going to survive into the future. If Maxus were to chastise Decimus for what he did to Arianna, but intend for him to survive, then I agree the session would probably be long and painful.

The quote was "Maxus would have made the death ...", I believe. However, again in my opinion, once Maxus determined that Decimus had been reclassified as "Better Dead", the death of Decimus would be as swift and efficient as Maxus could contrive; since, at that point, any pain Decimus might undergo would be thoroughly gratuitous.

Or are you suggesting that Maxus would beat Decimus to death with his fists by accident? In the course of instructing him why he should not have tried to kill his sister and forced Arianna to interpose herself ...?

I confess, the thought had not occurred to me.
Sheela 28th Nov 2016, 10:47 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, as much of a killer Maxus can be, death-by-torture just doesn't his style.

As for whom would be the scariest torturer ?
Old man Setorious himself - Not that I think he subscribes to the practice, he's got way to many other things to do, it's a waste of time!
Dragonrider 28th Nov 2016, 7:26 PM edit delete reply

Despite the fact he is highly principled he did beat the gladiator who harmed Irene to death. In this instance he had warned Douchie that any further attempts to harm his Sister or Lynn Taylor would result in painful consequences. Not pnly did Douchie try to kill his sister, harm Lynn Taylor, attempted to kill Irene, killed Arianna, caused the death or serious injury of Democuls, and last but not least tried to kill Maxus. I think it would have gone something along the lines of,
Decimus Aquila Livius, did you fail to remember what I told you would happen should you again step out of line with your sister, smash, did you not heed the tale I told you, smash.n You are not fit to bear the name of your father, smash, you are as sick and perverted as was your mother, smash. You have killed, maimed and committed other offenses too many to name, smash, against Nova Roma, Nova Illium, and humanity in general, smash, I therefore sentence you to life imprisoned in your own mind in a body, smash, that has been destroyed beyond all hope of repair. Smash, you will live each day praying for death but kept alive by medical science until such time as we may find the means to abort your plan of destruction.
Gilrandir 28th Nov 2016, 10:16 PM edit delete reply
We don't read Maxus' character the same way, @Dragonrider. Even for the fellow that abused Irene (reference here), it looks to me like it was more-or-less a one-hit kill, followed by much solicitous care for Irene. However, only the creatrices can speak with certain knowledge on the topic.
Dragonrider 29th Nov 2016, 12:14 AM edit delete reply

I read no character fault there only the desire for Justice, and encouragement for others to learn from what befalls others. In other words The Rule of Three would be biting Douchie in the ass.
Sheela 29th Nov 2016, 5:03 AM edit delete reply

Oh, I could easily picture Maxus killing the prince, but it would be a quick kill, not drawn out torture.
Dragonrider 29th Nov 2016, 10:46 AM edit delete reply

Not torture justice, can't kill him Armageddon. Therefore let him live with the knowledge of what he did in his mind everyday, unable to die forced to endure the pain and suffering he forced on others. Simple justice plain and simple.
Gilrandir 29th Nov 2016, 12:30 PM edit delete reply
In my opinion, even if torture is justice, that does not make it any less torture, just as imprisonment being justice makes it no less imprisonment or a fine being justice makes it no less a fine. You, of course, are free to believe as you will. I'm not going to stipulate to torture being justice in Decimus' case, but neither am I going to argue it here -- that is (IMHO) for another place and time.

I will remind you, however, that the creatrices have stated that an uncooperative Decimus would trigger the contingencies as easily as a deceased Decimus, and I suspect a quadriplegic and tormented Decimus would be ... uncooperative. So, for Maxus to take that approach would just be ... futile.

This seems like a bad time/location for a full debrief. But...i's not on fire, so that's a plus!
Just_IDD 29th Nov 2016, 3:01 AM edit delete reply
I would say this is a field de-briefing. Maxis needs to know where his staff who were assigned to Acantha and Lynn are so he can properly be giving them aid or new tasks. He is following up with Lynn because she has the context to know that he needs this information forthrightly.

On the Vanished body, I believe Ariana discovered Democlus and moved his body then went back down the tunnel because his death gave her the fortitude to stand up to DeciShmuck without worrying about consequences.

What I still don't know is where she appeared from after DeciSchmuck and Kali ran into Lynn and Acantha. If we posit that she move the body then Kelly and deck would have passed her in the hallway at which point she followed them back down to a council? That's the only thing I can think of.

Actually I just had a second thought. The camera Droid on the cart would have returned with the car to the main area is it possible that Aeneas moved him? The dog would have had enough strength to move him without dragging ass would have any of the other robots. Could he have put him in stasis?
Gilrandir 28th Nov 2016, 6:04 PM edit delete reply
Congrats to you, @Centcomm, on a generally positive examination result. I hope the follow-up shows even more encouraging results.

When it comes to getting enough rest, a healthy diet, and general care of your physical and mental well-being, I have only one piece of advice for you at this time: Don't stent yourself. ^_^

There are a lot of standing around and talking while there is a person is dying in the arms of a medic.
Stormwind13 29th Nov 2016, 11:39 AM edit delete reply

It may feel like a long time (especially to the readers with the time spent awaiting new pages); however, I would be surprised if 15 minutes has gone by since Acantha was stabbed. And the conversation at hand is important, if everyone is going to make it home (I thought you cleared us with air defense! ::Weapon lock detected... SAM launch detected... six seconds to impact:: :-p) Talking a little now might save them all shortly {or maybe not if any of Douchimus' loyal troops realize he is dead ::Lock onto the craft carrying those murderous traitors and fire at will::}
Gilrandir 29th Nov 2016, 12:21 PM edit delete reply
And, according to the medic, she's not dying for several hours yet. Plenty of time ... after all, what could go wrong? ^_^

More musical silliness from me. This time imagine it being sung by a kidnapper, terrorist, armed robber, etc. of your choice to the tune of the Official US Army song:
(Feel free to add verses of your own. ^_^. These verses brought to you by the Nova Roma Office of Public Safety, PsyOps Division.)

They got Bill, they got Dale,
They're so strong, but look so frail,
And the Cassians go strolling along.

We've got guns, we've got knives,
Now we're fighting for our lives,
But the Cassians go strolling along.

Now it's "Don't shoot me!"
And "I think I'm gonna pee!"
How did this caper go so wrong?
So you'd best stay home,
Don't cause trouble in New Rome
When the Cassians go strolling along.

Who are they? Who's to say
We can't have our fun our way?
But for Cassians patrolling along

They're awake all the time.
They've got one, looks like a mime,
As the Cassians go strolling along.
