"Is there a Doctor in the house?"

Sheela 14th Dec 2016, 7:12 AM edit delete reply

Most definitely!

And cooler heads *WILL* prevail, or Setorius have some severe words to say about it!
Haegan2005 13th Dec 2016, 9:23 PM edit delete reply

He has an investment in them, but is willing to let them go. Always a good thing to have people outside with good will towards you. This is pretty smart and looking well into tomorrow. It makes me wonder if he knew about her rescuer?)
Sheela 14th Dec 2016, 7:11 AM edit delete reply

I am absolutely certain, that Setorius is more well-informed and up todate than most of the people around him wants him to be. Frankly, it makes him scary .. uhnm .. I mean, it makes him even scarier!

Also, seeing as it seems like he enjoys to plan ahead, it would be funny if he had already made Julia an honorary Ambassador for the church of Genetic Purity, and sends her off to another city complete with diplomatic immunity 'n' everything.

Then they could just walk straight out of the main gate, while Miraiko would be grumbling about not being allowed to hit the soldiers. :D
Haegan2005 14th Dec 2016, 5:54 PM edit delete reply

I can see that...
Dragonrider 13th Dec 2016, 9:26 PM edit delete reply

Hopefully Democlus is in for better treatment than parts for the body bank. Miriako seems to have taken a few Testosterone Tablets this morning and wants to imitate an Alabama Red Neck on a Friday nite, after a few beers and someone says the Crimson Tide is not as good as University of Georgia Gymdogs.
Just_IDD 14th Dec 2016, 6:09 AM edit delete reply
You should see how heated they get when the person is from Alabama State instead of Alabama A&M. At least if you're from Georgia they won't be as mad at you for picking the "wrong School". That's much harder to do when you're both from Alabama.

Since Democlus is the princess' guard, I'm sure they will treat him well.

And yeah, Miraiko seems to be stuck in "pissed off" mode.
Mark_L_A 14th Dec 2016, 1:37 PM edit delete reply

I'm pretty sure that Setorius knows that Democlus is one of Maxus' "Specials" and will treat him well.

Setorius would rather have Maxus indebted to him than pissed at him.
Sheela 15th Dec 2016, 12:01 AM edit delete reply

Oh yeah I had not thought of that.

Too bad the same cannot be said for Arianna.

And he leaps to the top of the Most Reasonable Character list.
Just_IDD 14th Dec 2016, 6:12 AM edit delete reply
He has always been the most reasonable. Coldly logical reasonable. Please pass the salt and I seem to have a bit of organic matter in my water, could you bring me another?
Sheela 14th Dec 2016, 7:14 AM edit delete reply

He is reasonable to the points of being creepy!

Nosferatu isn't so bad after all...

Gilrandir 14th Dec 2016, 12:08 AM edit delete reply
A question for the creatrices, if you will: Is there any reason for us to suspect that Miraiko is out of contact with Tokyo Rose at this point? I don't recall seeing anything like that, but ... <shrug>. We know that Miraiko was in communication with Tokyo Rose in the depths of the Black Palace, so it seems reasonable to expect that she would still be in contact. Tokyo Rose is able to reach out and contact Nox's severed head, presumably she can reach Miraiko's cybernetics.
HiFranc 14th Dec 2016, 12:16 AM edit delete reply

What makes you think that she's not in contact?
Gilrandir 14th Dec 2016, 6:24 AM edit delete reply
I don't, @HiFranc. I suspect that she is in-contact, which fuels my speculations about why Tokyo Rose is withholding the information about Setorius and Julia from Maxus and the others when they are discussing what to do about Acantha. But if she were not in-contact, it would provide some kind of possible alternate explanation.
Mark_L_A 14th Dec 2016, 1:40 PM edit delete reply

I think this is occurring while Tokyo rose and everyone else are still in the bowels of Aeneas' brain trying to put him back together.

So Rose might be a little out of touch, if Miraiko calls she might get shunted to Rose's voice mail, mind mail, whatever.
MikeLinPA 14th Dec 2016, 6:46 AM edit delete reply
A lack of disembodied speech bubbles sprinkled with very creative profanities.
Sheela 14th Dec 2016, 7:16 AM edit delete reply

Just because they have been in contact, doesn't mean they are in contact constantly - Miraiko will call her up when she needs something, or vice versa ... and Tokyo Rose have been busy with other stuff to sit around and watch every single move Miraiko makes.

Besides, she trusts her to raise hell if need be.
rob 14th Dec 2016, 10:11 AM edit delete reply
i would think about this point rome ai ( name?) was hacking Rose,, so Rose was not in contact..!! couple pages back

I suspect Rose may be having to deal with other things at the moment. Like informing people that no, the world is not about to go boom.

Oh, nice, he is not going to hinder them...

@alt text: ...oh? is he a vampire...?

Timotheus 14th Dec 2016, 1:08 AM edit delete reply

Of course not. It's just that if he should die in his sleep it would be more efficient and save considerable effort on the part of everybody.
Sheela 14th Dec 2016, 7:17 AM edit delete reply

Not that it would make much of a difference, they'd burn his body immediately .... y'know ... just to be SURE he stays down!
Morituri 14th Dec 2016, 10:26 AM edit delete reply
One coffin, cushions all stuffed with dynamite (because, after all, if he's dead, he doesn't care much about soft comfortable cushions), invitations to all the people who'll show up at the funeral just to make sure he's really dead (which would likely include whoever killed him, along with other people whose continuation he would consider a bug rather than a feature), and a request for a viking funeral....

After all, why let such an opportunity go to waste?
Sheela 14th Dec 2016, 12:43 PM edit delete reply

You forgot the people who don't really believe Setorius is ACTUALLY dead, and have a bet going that he will rise during the "burial" and go HAL 9K on everyone's asses.

They would be those funeral guests with binoculars, that stand at a safe distance .. just in case he does rise again.
Morituri 14th Dec 2016, 9:41 AM edit delete reply
Called it. The situation has deteriorated far too much to care about Julia & Miraiko leaving, check, and he more-or-less expected it, check, and he is still a medic, even if a weird and creepy one, and will take care of Democlus, check.

And thank goodness he had time to make all that clear before Miraiko went all berserksgangr on his people, or he probably wouldn't have continued to be so reasonable.
Gilrandir 14th Dec 2016, 9:52 AM edit delete reply
I don't understand why so many people seem to find Setorius "weird" or "creepy". There doesn't seem (to me) to be any basis for that reaction, other than that he wears shades at night and acts like a civilized adult. Oh, and he is visibly older than most people in this land of the eternally young (androids) -- for which we have @Centcomm's art to praise.
Sheela 14th Dec 2016, 12:56 PM edit delete reply

Don't forget that he is ALOT older than he looks.
Also, he is known to not just experiment on himself, but on others as well - Maxus is one of his experiments, the cat girls is another.

I bet there's a million rumors about what happens in his laboratory, he's an ancient mad scientist, with unknown combat abilities. You *should* be scared.
Gilrandir 14th Dec 2016, 1:33 PM edit delete reply
As Setorius himself would (no doubt) observe, one should never be scared of mere rumors. It is possible that certain facts might cause one concern, and lack of reliable information suggests a degree of circumspect caution -- but unjustified fear based solely on the unsubstantiated tale-telling of others is merely self-indulgent. ^_^
Sheela 15th Dec 2016, 12:03 AM edit delete reply

Alternatively, he would add fuel to the rumors, and sit back and enjoy the whole debacle.

.. There might even be popcorn involved!
One of his few vices. >_<

"The royal hat rack" - well, now we know where his loyalties (don't) lie!
Gilrandir 14th Dec 2016, 10:12 AM edit delete reply
I'd be very surprised if his loyalties didn't lie first with either the Church or himself. His desire to work within a stable political climate is responsible for the "royal", and his ability to accurately assess individual potential is responsible for the "hat-rack". ^_^

One of the minor establishing bits that it would be easy to overlook is that Acantha was previously established as a diligent student of the Church whose work earned Setorius' interest and approval. That should be a strong indicator that Setorius would have no objection to a regency on behalf of Acantha. (Given a reasonable choice of regent, that is.)
CptKerion 14th Dec 2016, 11:01 PM edit delete reply
Setorius would not want the regency, it would interfere with his work. I believe he would want Maxus as the regent, because that would keep things nice and stable, get things mopped up quickly and such because Maxus may well be the single most loved person in all of Nova Roma.

Setorius, I suspect, given his druthers, would prefer to not be in the public eye.
Now, if the need were to arise, I have no doubt he would step up to the plate, though with a measure of cool reluctance that is not readily apparent to anyone else.
Gilrandir 14th Dec 2016, 11:45 PM edit delete reply
I have failed to make myself clear -- I did not mean to suggest that Setorius wanted to be Regent. He is already Archpriest, which is likely to put him squarely in the public eye on any number of occasions. I merely intended to suggest that Setorius would not object to the succession falling to Acantha, which would necessitate some kind of regency until she was of age. As opposed to declaring the succession null and void and throwing it to the Senate to select a candidate from one of the other noble houses. Although I further suspect that Setorius would expect Maxus to do a competent job as Regent, that's really just wild speculation on my part since I don't recall any canon references to what Setorius' preferences for Regent might actually be. It's entirely possible he has a different qualified candidate in mind. I agree that he wouldn't want to be Regent himself.
Sheela 15th Dec 2016, 12:05 AM edit delete reply

Frankly, I think Setorius would be thrilled with Acantha on the throne.
After all, she has studied medicine, and is well disposed towards improving relations with other city states.
That means he could finally get a bump in science funding and maybe even get access to more Nano technology!
Yeah, Old Man Setorius would like that for sure!

Who is more chill - Mr Black or Setorius? I have to wonder…
Gilrandir 14th Dec 2016, 11:24 AM edit delete reply
Whichever one is less human. Meat is 'uncool'. ^_^
Sheela 14th Dec 2016, 12:45 PM edit delete reply

Unless it's meat that has been specifically bio-engineered by Setorius to be cool ... in which case, all bets are off. :D
Visvires 14th Dec 2016, 10:27 PM edit delete reply
Would Setorius have told off the supervisor in shock and awe fashion? I think he would've been more chill. Which would've been a less awesome way to do it, but still a more chill way.
KarToon12 14th Dec 2016, 4:24 PM edit delete reply

After all the craziness going on, a calm and civil stand off (for the most part) was something I wasn't expecting.
Sheela 15th Dec 2016, 12:07 AM edit delete reply

Cooler head *WILL* prevail, dammit.
Or else he will have to cut the hot heads off himself.
*grumble* *grumble*
Since he won't let me do it. >:(
Gilrandir 15th Dec 2016, 1:12 PM edit delete reply
Does anyone here (other than myself) wonder if, in the privacy of his own mind, the occasional errant thought occurs to Setorius; such as, "I wonder if the addition of a couple of extra tentacles would significantly improve the combat effectiveness of a royal bodyguard?" Or perhaps, "Is discovering the answer to such an important question really the sort of thing we should entrust to the consent of a soldier lacking advanced training in the biological and medical sciences?" ^_^
Sheela 16th Dec 2016, 5:53 AM edit delete reply

Bwa ha ha ha - MOAR Tentacles !! :D

Yeah, he would be thinking something like that, wouldn't he?
DLKmusic 15th Dec 2016, 5:49 PM edit delete reply

I think it's a little premature for everyone to be guessing where Setorus' Loyalties lie. Setorus is for Setorus, then the church, then whoever he would feel would be the best person on the throne to let him carry out his research.

That may well be Acantha, (and Maxus as Regent), but it might be someone else entirely. Setorus has yet to tip his hand.

And on a side note, by letting Julia go, either He. or someone he specifically appoints, will become both Decimus and Acantha's personal physician, so he does have something to gain by letting Julia go. (basing this statement on the assumption that he has no knowledge of the incident between the 2 royals).
Dragonrider 15th Dec 2016, 7:07 PM edit delete reply

When he finds the entire story, especially that Acantha has been sent to New Troy to be healed, I feel the Excremental By Product will connect with the rotating, osculating wind machine. Right now I think he would be content to let things flow as long as he is the HMFICC of health. However remove a Royal, especially the one on the Throne from his care he will consider it a personal insult and will move heaven and earth for revenge. He is almost as mad as Douchie was, the Poster Child for Mad Evil Genius.
Stormwind13 15th Dec 2016, 8:25 PM edit delete reply

I don't know Dragonrider. Somehow that feels wrong to me. I think he'll be upset, but mostly disappointed. Disappointed that they felt the need to send Acantha away from her city, because they couldn't be sure he was trustworthy.
DLKmusic 15th Dec 2016, 9:10 PM edit delete reply

That's my feeling as well, Stormwind, I personally believe that Setorus will continue to be the most reasonable person in the room when the dust settles (albiet hurt by this revelation), but it is still important to note that Maxus trusted Julia and her loyalties, but not Setorus himself... And Julia is fleeing the city.

as far as mad evil genius goes, apart from the note in his bio, every instance that we have seen him in, he's been cool, rational, reasonable, and was even willing to stand up to Decimus at the dinner party. He's kinda earned the "Favorite Grandparent" award with most of us readers so far.

That being Said, Maxus is right. We don't KNOW where his loyalties are, not the players, not the readers.

I'm glad though that my concerns for Democlus turned out to be for naught. Well, played evil duo! Well played indeed!
