Tokyo Rose
Upon this day some years ago, I entered the world. My mother will neither confirm nor deny that when the doctor smacked my bottom, I called him a "ham-handed fuck-faced quack-tard".

Yah, happy birfday! :D

Also, you certainly didn't bite his hand .. noooo.
Timotheus 15th Dec 2016, 9:09 PM edit delete reply

Well, in the words of Ralph the wonder beagle, "Arffy Barfday!"
Stormwind13 15th Dec 2016, 9:12 PM edit delete reply

Sounds like Setorius DID detect that Miraiko wasn't exactly as she was presenting herself.
Sheela 16th Dec 2016, 6:37 AM edit delete reply

Well of course, unlike others, Setorius actually use that brain of his.
And he usually doesn't just stand around doing nothing either.
Which, btw, must be getting real old, real fast for him.
I wonder how this conversation is in his head?

*Setorius' thoughts*

Julia : "Blah blah blah blah"
Setorius : "Ugh, do we have to stand around here and talk so much?"
Setorius : "I have a young man to repair, and science to conduct."
Julia : "Blah blah"
Setorius : "But noooo, they just want to gab about leaving - Just leave already then!"
Setorius : "Waste of time it is, I could be doing science!"
Julia : "blah blah blah"
Setorius : "Wait what ? What does she mean I am correct ? OF COURSE I am correct."
Setorius : "Ooops, did I slip that out ? Ah well."
Miraiko : "blah blah blah"
Setorius : "Aaand now the asian girl is speaking as well, yes, yes, you can leave now."
Setorius : "All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other."
Setorius : "I wonder if I have to repeat myself again ?"
Miraiko : "blah bluh"
Setorius : "*whew* ... nope, dodged that bullet."
Setorius : "I wonder if I could make the young bodyguard dodge bullets ?"
Setorius : "Or maybe he would be more combat efficient with some tentacles ?"
Miraiko : "blah blah blah blah"
Setorius : "Wait, the asian girl is speaking again, stop interrupting me dammit!"
Julia : "blah blah"
Cassy : "blah"
Julia : "blah blah"
Setorius : "Oh good, now they are talking to one another, good, good, that don't bother me none."
Setorius : "Now .. tentacles, hmmm."
Setorius : "I wonder if he's smart enough to control them in an efficient manner?"
Setorius : "Maybe I should add some octopus brains as well, that could unload the strain on the human brain."
Setorius : "Ah yes, brains. Maybe I should add some of those on my regular test cases as well."
Setorius : "But Tentacles will probably be more popular in the arena, raising more funding for .. experiments."
Miraiko : "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah"
Miraiko : "Blah blah blah"
Julia : "Blah"
Setorius : "Are we done standing here, gabbing, when I could be adding tentacles to the young bodyguard ?"
Setorius : "Bah ... waste of time."
Setorius : "..."
Setorius : "..."
Setorius : "I do so hope that the First Aid station is still not on fire."

:D

Gilrandir 16th Dec 2016, 8:08 AM edit delete reply
I give it to you, freely, @Sheela. It is such fun to see what you do with things like that. ^_^
Sheela 16th Dec 2016, 8:54 AM edit delete reply

I tried to improve it!
It's still your idea though. :)
Just_IDD 16th Dec 2016, 7:01 AM edit delete reply
That. Birthday. Thing.

Also, nailed it. Setorius is a pragmatic empirical sociologist (minor psychopath) with an auto-didact memory for faces and situations. A Sheldon type who keeps many of his discoveries to himself because he does not need the validation of others to confirm his world view. However he has been repeating himself because his conclusions while blindingly obvious to himself need more comprehension time by his underlings.
DLKmusic 15th Dec 2016, 9:14 PM edit delete reply

Happy Birthday Rose! And I don't for a minute believe you said that to the doctor when you were born... I would have taken you at least 3 months to get that proficient with your profanity!!!!
Ryu Santos 15th Dec 2016, 11:14 PM edit delete reply

You must realize that the adults in the room couldn't understand what she was saying at the time.
Speedy Marsh 6th Apr 2017, 6:29 AM edit delete reply
It's tough to enunciate properly in air, when you've been speaking in amniotic fluid, your whole life.
StellarJay 16th Dec 2016, 12:41 AM edit delete reply

What I was wondering is how long the doctor kept spanking for the insolence.
Sheela 16th Dec 2016, 6:13 AM edit delete reply

Well .. she did keep telling him bad stuff .. sooo ...

Her mom used to put headphones on her baby bulge, and play classical music on the CD (or cassette) changer. When Rose was born, and cursed out the doctor, her dad said, "Ooooh... I've been looking for that album, for months!"

This part is going a lot better than I thought it would.
Waiting for the other shoe.

The other shoe is when the fast craft they're getting the hell out of Nova Roma with turns out to be the same fast craft that Ada & Maxus & Lynn & Noctis & Co were relying on to get Acantha the hell out of Nova Roma.

Picture it: The whole crew arrives at the hangar just in time to see the craft they need to save the Princess's life, lifting off its landing pad and heading for the wild black yonder.
Sheela 16th Dec 2016, 12:36 PM edit delete reply

Alternatively, it's buried in the backyard.

Not that *I* would know anything about that .. because I'm like, *so* innocent and all ..
But .. y'know .. just sayin'. :)

Gilrandir 15th Dec 2016, 10:16 PM edit delete reply
Why, oh why, @Tokyo Rose, do you tempt me this way when I am supposed to be polite and respectful to you on your birthday?

Many happy returns of the day to you.

I doubt that even the great Tokyo Rose would have be able to verbalise immediately after birth. Having her mouth plugged with mucus would have made practice difficult, after all. More likely she had express her feelings by grabbing hold of her umbilicus, yanking the placenta out, and using it as a flail. And if the birth had involved a caesarian or episiotomy...

Newborn Rose: *grabs scalpel/scissors* *stab!* uuwaaah! aH, waaaa-AAAA!†

† "You cut my mother, now I cut YOU!"

>:=)>

But I also doubt that the foetal Rose would have let her antenatal status be a barrier to communication either...

Sonogram techician: And there she is, little baby Rose, all ready to come out in a few weeks!

Mr. Rose: Is she... flipping us off?

Sonogram technician: Haha, no... babies can get into sorts of funny poses at this stage of development... and it does mean that her hands are properly developed... now, if I scan from this angle, you can see...

Foetal Rose: *turns in the womb* *gives them the finger again*

Sonogram technician: ...

Mr. Rose: *awkward laugh* She IS flipping us off!

Mrs. Rose: No dear, I think she's flipping this off. *taps sonogram wand* (to sonogram technician) Can you finish up quickly, before she starts kicking... and punching?

Foetal Rose: *makes fist, shakes it at sonogram wand*

>:=)>

So, have a nice one, Rose, and try not to turn the air blue! >;=)>
Sheela 16th Dec 2016, 6:18 AM edit delete reply

Ha ha ha, yeah, she would have had to be messing with all the hightech stuff around her, wouldn't she ?

Mr Rose : "Dear, why is my smartphone telling me that you want chocolate?"
Mrs. Rose : "Uhhh ... dammit, how does she know when I'm craving ?"

Does anyone find it a revealing coincidence that it is only when we get to a series of pages featuring Setorius that @Tokyo Rose starts talking about getting spanked by doctors? ^_^ Should we send @Mr. Black a package of surgical masks and a toy stethoscope as a present? Do we know that he doesn't already have his own? ^_^
Mister Black 16th Dec 2016, 8:33 AM edit delete reply

I appreciate the offer, but I have a supply of surgical masks from my days in the print shop (don't change 20lb cans of toner without them!).

I don't have the stethoscope, but I was a firefighter working on an EMT certification when I was younger and (more) foolish, so I can at least play doctor. *leer*

Time out, 08:23. KMG-365

Were you with Station 51 in LA county? ^_^
Mister Black 16th Dec 2016, 8:52 AM edit delete reply

Not even remotely, although That Show (currently on Netflix behind me) was at least partially responsible for getting me involved in the whole thing. I just had to throw an obscure reference out there to maintain my 'nerd' credentials.

I was with a small, rural VFD that got a lot of support calls from surrounding departments, probably because we had an M-970 converted to a water tanker (want to make friends with every department within 50 miles? Bring 5,000 gallons of water and a transfer pump to the party *grin*).
Sheela 16th Dec 2016, 8:56 AM edit delete reply

Gotta admit, bringing water to a fire fight, is a good way to make friends quickly. :)
