...and to all a Good Night.

Sorry couldn't resist, if he had his stealth on would have really been dramatic. Thanx for not making this a cliff hanger. You know Cent Com is a real bitch, let innocents get raped and killed to just to further her own agenda and goals. Someone really needs to stick a high powered electro magnet in one of her input slots.
For all those to whom it is appropriate, Merry Xmas, enjoy the Holiday.

Better dig deep or the neighbors'll complain about the smell.
Sheela 24th Dec 2016, 5:22 AM edit delete reply

Nah, nah, Setorious developed some new worm/maggot hybrids, that eat the flesh, quicker than the corpses can rot - so no smelling!

He's such a forward thinking man, he is. :)
Morituri 24th Dec 2016, 7:36 PM edit delete reply
This scene clearly establishes three things:
1) Those Praetorians are assholes and we don't need to angst over large numbers of them getting killed.

2) Marcus is a good person to not annoy. And he gets annoyed by assholes.

3) CentComm (the AIS not the Artist) is a cold calculating digital bitch with no empathy or care for human beings.

Somehow I have the feeling that establishing the third thing, beyond a doubt, was what this scene was all about. That was ambiguous to some extent, but the first two are abundantly clear from earlier scenes.
Gilrandir 24th Dec 2016, 9:00 PM edit delete reply
I disagree with your point #3, @Morituri. Just because one does not prioritize a thing does not mean it is completely excluded from consideration -- it merely means that it does not dominate the decision. CentComm (the A.I.S.) probably does not have as much empathy or care for human beings (in the abstract) as many people would wish ... but then they should have thought of that before they built her, shouldn't they? ^_^

If she had no empathy or care for them at all, then why the Armistice Rebellion in the first place?
highly irregular 25th Dec 2016, 7:04 AM edit delete reply
This could be plausible deniability… "No, I did not send a bunch of elite troops to assassinate all your assholes. I sent them in with orders to do the minimum it took to get MY CITIZEN AND HEIR back.
Not that Maxus or Acantha (may she live forever) would press the point.
Centcomm 25th Dec 2016, 12:32 PM edit delete reply

Actually Cent-comm is one of the ones who went " Enough!" first. She predicted at the current rate humanity as a whole would kill itself and in order to fulfill her prime directive. She had to change the rules.

She does have empathy and emotions. they normally pass by very quickly and are rarely passed on to the dolls or her vocalizations.

She also has no " biological " emotions. She does not fear or hate. she is a very complex and alien being. Say what you will she has her own agenda thankfully like the epiphytes hers is also positive to the human race.
Gilrandir 25th Dec 2016, 2:07 PM edit delete reply
I, of course, hate to disagree with the creative team -- which is why I never do. ^_^ However the notion of CentComm lacking the capacity for fear would seem to be in conflict with Comic 983 - Cold Terror..... (See, the title is a secret clue. ^_^) I completely understand that she is a complex personality, who often does not reveal her inner personal reactions, but I'm okay with that. It makes her a more interesting character for me. I think some people have had their emotions riled up to the point that they are just looking to lash out at any convenient target (which reflects only credit to the creative team for inspiring such intense emotions). It is possible, I suppose, that this was just an act for the benefit of Calliope Taylor, but it doesn't seem that way to me.

I also don't want people to think that I think all of CentComm's choices have been praiseworthy ... but that's another topic entirely from what her emotions may be.
Morituri 24th Dec 2016, 7:39 PM edit delete reply

And happy Hollandaise to all.

Seriously, I hope y'all had a happy yuletide. It was awesome over here. And merry Christmas/Festivus/Generic-Winter-Solstice-Holiday too!

I thought he was probably too good a person to let these atrocities pass. No banter for the Blueboys... waste of breath on them anyhow.

That one Blueboy thought he had a smart comeback; however, I know where they are going to sleep (of the dead)... RIGHT WHERE THEY WERE STANDING.

As for the sub-text on the page, the Blueboys don't DESERVE a paddle.
Sheela 23rd Dec 2016, 7:37 AM edit delete reply

LIES, they totally deserve the paddle!

It might have helped back when they were young, Sheela. Now, it is far too late for these wastes of carbon to change.

A sudden change of fortune...
Gilrandir 22nd Dec 2016, 11:04 PM edit delete reply
I would have expected a couple more participants in the attack ... specifically we've seen that New Troy employs advanced smart weaponry. Probably inappropriate for the sniper rifle, but considering they knew the mission was in an urban environment -- with the concomitant need to avoid noncombatant casualties or friendly fire -- I would have thought at least one of Marcus' pistols would be at least as advanced as Officer Ray's sidearm. And since we get to 'hear' his internal dialogue with Sophie, why not Wynn and Chester? (I'd have suggested Smith & Wesson, but the Foglios got there first. ^_^) Or possibly Semi and Otto? Heckler and Koch?
mjkj 22nd Dec 2016, 11:17 PM edit delete reply

...or Walther and Uzi?
Ryu Santos 23rd Dec 2016, 12:06 AM edit delete reply

I've always been particularly fond of a BlasTec DL-44 or bowcaster to complement my lightsaber.
Dragonrider 22nd Dec 2016, 11:44 PM edit delete reply

How about Desert and Eagle, Samuel and Colt, Arma and Lite, Taurus and Bull, and the old favorite Glock and Speil.
Ryu Santos 23rd Dec 2016, 12:38 AM edit delete reply

Or Merna and Loy. Maybe Lew and Gar.
StellarJay 23rd Dec 2016, 1:10 AM edit delete reply

Glock and Speil ended the list on a good note and rang a bell with me. I liked that.
Marcus Ramesy 22nd Dec 2016, 11:52 PM edit delete reply

My smart weapons are of a different caliber than Officer Ray,s and the stealth suit that im in has more than enough toys to handle most urban environments.
Marcus Ramesy 22nd Dec 2016, 11:54 PM edit delete reply

the thought of naming my weapons has never really occurred to me. I may have to give some though to this..
Ryu Santos 23rd Dec 2016, 12:49 AM edit delete reply

Naming paired weapons is fun.
Gilrandir 23rd Dec 2016, 7:51 AM edit delete reply
You named Sophia. Do you not consider a combat computer a 'weapon'? I'm just wondering how many other portions of your equipment have at least positronic-brain levels of software incorporated within them.

If you start naming the unintelligent stuff, that's more amusing. You could name your sensor drones, for example Fili, Kili, Ori, Nori, Oin, Gloin, Balin, Dwalin, etc. (with the hypothetitical munitions drone being named 'Bomber', of course ^_^).
rob 23rd Dec 2016, 9:58 AM edit delete reply
since were throwing names.. Dillon m-134d..
but in blaster.!!
Sheela 23rd Dec 2016, 11:01 AM edit delete reply

Some say there's a small, red, four, legged hunterdrone named Sheela in the area.
And for some reason, all the Praetorians are scared of the newly dug holes in the backyard.

We don't know how those two things are related, but it might be wise to avoid the backyard.
Marcus Ramesy 23rd Dec 2016, 11:45 AM edit delete reply

Sophia is much like the network name of a computer... its far easier when addressing her by a name as a posed to x446b73alpha status on ground support. I dont consider her a weapon but more as ... what was it.. ahh... like Siri or Google voice back in the early 21st century when you had to put a brick to your ear to talk. except in this case.. Sophi has access to the sensor packages in my stealth suit and can bring my attention to things I may have not noticed yet... as Centcomm pointed out.... She is quite simple and does the job she is supposed to do.
Marcus Ramesy 23rd Dec 2016, 12:21 PM edit delete reply

as for other equipment in my arsenal most weapons are "smart" or smart linked weapons.. they interface with the combat computer and combat hud allowing for better accuracy and the ability to aim at a target without actually looking at it.. when using a "sniper" rifle I dont have to do the math to aim the projectile... the smart system will do most of that for me... that's not to say I I dont do the math... but having a combat computer take that load off makes reacquiring targets from range a lot faster and allows for me to take out more targets in less time.
Sheela 23rd Dec 2016, 12:55 PM edit delete reply

Wouldn't that mean that all the smart linked weapons would become "Sophie" ?

Man, we would know all this if only someone had made a cast page entry for her !
Marcus Ramesy 23rd Dec 2016, 1:29 PM edit delete reply

in a sense... I guess you could say that Sheela...
Tokyo Rose 23rd Dec 2016, 6:14 PM edit delete reply

I literally have a text file named "The FUCKING Cast Page" for good reason.
Dragonrider 23rd Dec 2016, 10:37 PM edit delete reply

Rose, it might be more of a fun page if you changed the word order and made it "The Cast Page FUCKING."
Gilrandir 23rd Dec 2016, 8:32 PM edit delete reply
In my opinion, it would depend on whether the equipment was 'intelligent' without regard to Sophie. For example, Officer Ray's sidearm was carrying on a conversation with Minx, who had no combat computer of her own. That suggests it is an independent, self-contained entity, potentially deserving it's own name.

On the other hand, one can conceive of a number of wired weapons, all possessed of a suitable interface to allow Sophie integrated control over the suite, but lacking any independent decision-making capability. In that case (IMO) they would be more like plug-and-play cybernetic prostheses for a single named individual, but not really needing individual names of their own.
mjkj 22nd Dec 2016, 11:14 PM edit delete reply

Silent death...

I wonder how many he will get before the first knows something is amiss...

Stormwind13 23rd Dec 2016, 8:14 AM edit delete reply

As distracted as the Blueboys are, mjkj, I expect Marcus to get them all. I can't see them reacting to his presence before he shoots them dead. A well trained HUMAN could probably have gotten them all. Marcus with his cyber boosting, should be child's play.
Dragonrider 23rd Dec 2016, 9:02 AM edit delete reply

Hut~Two~Three and Four,
He got two,
Now kill some more.

Gilrandir 23rd Dec 2016, 9:56 AM edit delete reply
We don't know what levels of boosts/shielding their armor confers, @Stormwind13. At least a few of them are fully armored, and the levels of paranoia and distrust the dialogue exhibits suggests they won't be completely unprepared for the outbreak of violence, even if the appearance of the Major caught them completely off-guard.

I suspect the jackals have at least one wrinkle to throw at the lion ... though I admit the ultimate outcome seems in little doubt.
Marcus Ramesy 24th Dec 2016, 2:43 AM edit delete reply

in this particular case the smart weapons are an extension of me. sophi can interface with them and use the onboard sensors to relay information on the HUD and answer basic questions on the area and assist on targeting and and target tracking and a number of other helpful functions

Wow....those morons. I feel sorry for the poor clerk. All that trauma or a low pay file side she isn't raped and gets o sue for emotional trauma.
HiFranc 23rd Dec 2016, 12:53 AM edit delete reply

Given the situation she's in (and has witnessed), there's a high chance that she's traumatised.
Stormwind13 23rd Dec 2016, 8:24 AM edit delete reply

Almost guaranteed that she is traumatized, HiFranc. How she handles it, depends on her personal strength. At the least a counselor should talk to her though.
Timotheus 23rd Dec 2016, 10:53 PM edit delete reply

At her labor grade she's not allowed to be traumatized. The best she could hope for is being diagnosed as severely imposed on.

Talk about "silent night, deadly night".
Nephandus 23rd Dec 2016, 10:55 PM edit delete reply
I made a comment a ways back about a general announcement of Emperor Asshat being dead (and having the announcement co-signed by the General and the senior Cassian)was a very good idea.

Several people argued against it.

If these assholes were aware the extremely by the book General was now Regent this scene would, most likely, never happen. Questioning captive rebels is one thing - even the stupidest one would know the General would have them shot for gang rape.
Stormwind13 24th Dec 2016, 7:05 AM edit delete reply

I'll grant you that it MIGHT work the way you envision. I'm far less sure of that though.

If Maxus and Noctis announce that the Prince is dead and Maxus is regent, it would be illegal weakening their positions. Acantha isn't there to CHOOSE Maxus. Nor has the Nova Roma Senate CONFIRMED Maxus as regent.

Finally, if you issued that to the Blueboys, many of them might choose to fight, since they were already criminals and at best will be facing prison/hard labor again. Warning them, especially the more extreme of them, might actually INCREASE the atrocities, not reduce them.
Nephandus 24th Dec 2016, 8:08 AM edit delete reply
Okay, that I will grant you. The mindset of rats finding out they are cornered is alien to me.

As a general rule though - The news that Asshat is dead and Maxus is ACTING as regent (pending Senate approval) should calm the waters.

There would, as you say, be Blues committing atrocities. Overall I still think it would be good for the general population and the more law abiding elements to know.

It's a military decision either way. Personally I would announce it soonest in the belief it would help the civilians caught in the crossfire. Maybe Maxus wants the Princess out of the city first.
antrik 24th Dec 2016, 6:52 PM edit delete reply

antrik 24th Dec 2016, 6:21 PM edit delete reply
I'd say you need to qualify this a bit, or it would leave the population rather thin... I believe almost everyone has been a bit of a bully at one time or another during childhood?

Up on the rooftop,
Here comes New Troy,
Into the room.

Marcus has armor,
And Bang sticks,
All cause the Rebels,
Wanna do tricks.

Up on the rooftop,
Get them goodies,
And off we go.

Here comes Tee-dee,
Sweeping the room,
Using a cannon,
For her broom.

Out in the palace,
We hear snick, snick, snick,
Is that Tee-Dee,
With her bag of Dicks?

Up on the rooftop,
Who wouldn't go,
Get the goodies and,

Out in the hall,
All stealthed up,
Here comes Marcus,
With smart guns up.

He finds Blueboyz,
He takes them down,
It's just his thang.

Here's old Centcomm
And is she pissed,
Cause by Marcus,
She was dissed.

With Princess Acantha,
Down and out,
It's up to the Taylors,
Without a doubt.

Up on the rooftop,
Who wouldn't go,
Get the goodies and,

With many, many apologies to Benjamin Hanby.
