Amusing, but illogical. And, IMHO, even when CentComm is played for laughs, she should be logical. Messing with the translator seems likely to add to the delay, rather than to truncate it.
That makes more sense to me. Marcus should probably fill out paperwork on that software bug, though, after the mission. ^_^ Otherwise it'll never get fixed.
Looks like Marcus is wasting more of Centcoms precious time, sure she will bitch about him being a gentleman.
The translation reminds me of the story about the first English to Russian translating program the CIA had.
The test phrase chosen was to translate, "The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." Translation came out, "The Vodka is good but the meat is rotten."
Who is running the translation program? If Sophie is running it, how can she recognize the language error, since the erroneous program (presumably) represents her best available knowledge of Lamod? If Sophie isn't the one running it, but she has enough knowledge of Lamod to recognize the error, why not just provide Marcus with the correct translation in the first place?
I liked the two page sequence depicting how fast the Major was aiming and firing by showing his first two targets crumpling as he took out the others. Crushing the rapist's neck, windpipe and spine was a nice finale to the engagement. And he's a gentleman too.
I don't believe that she's impressed that he's a gentleman. I suspect that she's probably going to berate him for wasting time (or, at least, think it).
"Of course not. Now get back to work. One more incident of side activity and you'll be facing court martial under charges of insubordination, disobeying a direct order, and every other possible charge I can find in the regulations when you return."
I'm wondering why centy is even on the call still. A call even if it is encrypted is still radiating from his location being a beacon. His suit is still yelling loudly on the Luna Comm frequency. And its yelling gibberish.

Assuming they're using spread-spectrum techniques, there isn't a frequency involved and the chance of detection is less. (Not zero, but less.)
I expect, the need for a diplomatic solution having been calculated, CentComm wants to start a personal evaluation of Maxus as soon as possible, as well as having an emotional need to see for herself that Lynn is safe as soon as possible. By implication, Marcus is the only one with hardware to provide a secure link to CentComm, TeeDee and Ada only have secure links to the rest of the mission team -- and, if my supposition is right, only voice, and not visuals.
and you are correct in regards to the hardware aspect of things.. My communications package is classified.. but it does offer some nice discounts on home entertainment... as for video .. both ada and teedee nad Dr. Silver are wearing equipment that allows for me to see what they are seeing and in turn CentCom gets to see what they see as well..
"Coca-cola brings your ancestors back to life." (First attempt to translate coke slogan into Chinese. This was discovered after the ads appeared in print in China.)
STOP LOOKING AT ME, I'M INNOCENT!

I'm even more amused to think he might actually be offering her her own cloak. Now _that_ would be a bit of a social faux pas. ^_^
...the translation program is not very good...
Hmm, maybe Marcus should report that back to the rebels?
"Nice dress. Do you come here often?"
"I should stop playing white knight to distressed damsels and get on with my mission."
Major Ramesy: That... can't have been a translation of what I said! Cent, are you messing with my translation software?!?
>:=)>
Say, does your nipple explode with desire too ?

Do they know that they are wearing equipment that provides visual data to Marcus (and, through him, to CentComm)? ^_^
