Poor Marcus. Let down by his translator.
Centcomm 27th Dec 2016, 11:01 PM edit delete reply

Yep :D
Marcus Ramesy 28th Dec 2016, 12:04 AM edit delete reply

this is what happens when you rely on google translate
Rashala 28th Dec 2016, 12:47 AM edit delete reply

I thought Marcus's onboard PC was installed by centy herself hmmmmmmmmmmmmm????
HiFranc 28th Dec 2016, 1:33 AM edit delete reply

I was just thinking that. I think CentComm might be trying to sabotage his breach of orders.
Gilrandir 28th Dec 2016, 10:42 AM edit delete reply
Amusing, but illogical. And, IMHO, even when CentComm is played for laughs, she should be logical. Messing with the translator seems likely to add to the delay, rather than to truncate it.
Centcomm 28th Dec 2016, 12:05 PM edit delete reply

Cent did not sabo his translator. It just blinkered.
Gilrandir 28th Dec 2016, 12:18 PM edit delete reply
That makes more sense to me. Marcus should probably fill out paperwork on that software bug, though, after the mission. ^_^ Otherwise it'll never get fixed.
Ryu Santos 28th Dec 2016, 7:48 PM edit delete reply

And this is why I prefer Babel fish and keep my towel close at hand.
Sheela 28th Dec 2016, 8:00 PM edit delete reply

NOONE HAVE MESSED WITH THE TRANSLATION PROGRAM THAT CENTCOMM INSTALLED!!

STOP LOOKING AT ME, I'M INNOCENT!
Haegan2005 30th Dec 2016, 10:14 PM edit delete reply

guilty.
Dragonrider 27th Dec 2016, 9:09 PM edit delete reply

Looks like Marcus is wasting more of Centcoms precious time, sure she will bitch about him being a gentleman.
The translation reminds me of the story about the first English to Russian translating program the CIA had.
The test phrase chosen was to translate, "The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." Translation came out, "The Vodka is good but the meat is rotten."
Centcomm 27th Dec 2016, 11:01 PM edit delete reply

ok thats funny :D
Dragonrider 27th Dec 2016, 11:57 PM edit delete reply

It's also true.
Sheela 28th Dec 2016, 8:01 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, their Vodka really is quite good. :)
Gilrandir 27th Dec 2016, 9:34 PM edit delete reply
Who is running the translation program? If Sophie is running it, how can she recognize the language error, since the erroneous program (presumably) represents her best available knowledge of Lamod? If Sophie isn't the one running it, but she has enough knowledge of Lamod to recognize the error, why not just provide Marcus with the correct translation in the first place?
Centcomm 27th Dec 2016, 11:00 PM edit delete reply

The translation matrix is its own module it threw a error and she reported it.
Gilrandir 27th Dec 2016, 11:52 PM edit delete reply
It threw the error but still returned the result string? Ay-yi-yi!
Sheela 28th Dec 2016, 8:02 PM edit delete reply

Real-time translation ?
Gilrandir 27th Dec 2016, 9:40 PM edit delete reply
Just from curiousity: what is Marcus offering the naked chick to cover herself with?
Centcomm 27th Dec 2016, 11:00 PM edit delete reply

Its a piece of a cloak. he just grabbed it.
Gilrandir 27th Dec 2016, 11:50 PM edit delete reply
Ok. But none of the bad guys were wearing a cloak, right?

I'm even more amused to think he might actually be offering her her own cloak. Now _that_ would be a bit of a social faux pas. ^_^
Centcomm 28th Dec 2016, 12:05 PM edit delete reply

none of them were. He got it from the storage area to the right of the door.
jamie59 27th Dec 2016, 10:01 PM edit delete reply

You never know. They might be friends by the time the smoke clears.
Centcomm 27th Dec 2016, 11:01 PM edit delete reply

maybe :D
Stormwind13 28th Dec 2016, 10:25 AM edit delete reply

Could be jamie. They may have more in common than just both of them winding up in the wrong place during the revolution.
The Old Scribe 27th Dec 2016, 11:10 PM edit delete reply
I liked the two page sequence depicting how fast the Major was aiming and firing by showing his first two targets crumpling as he took out the others. Crushing the rapist's neck, windpipe and spine was a nice finale to the engagement. And he's a gentleman too.
Marcus Ramesy 28th Dec 2016, 12:04 AM edit delete reply

I may have more metal than meat, but I do have my moments..
Sheela 28th Dec 2016, 8:03 PM edit delete reply

Unfortunately, those moments happened several months ago!
mjkj 28th Dec 2016, 1:32 AM edit delete reply

Great, they speak standard...

...the translation program is not very good...

Hmm, maybe Marcus should report that back to the rebels?

HiFranc 28th Dec 2016, 1:39 AM edit delete reply

I'm going to make a prediction - *if* Marcus tells them the situation, the rebel will tell him to hurry up and save Acantha.
HiFranc 28th Dec 2016, 1:42 AM edit delete reply

I don't believe that she's impressed that he's a gentleman. I suspect that she's probably going to berate him for wasting time (or, at least, think it).

"My hovercraft is full of eels."

"Nice dress. Do you come here often?"

"I should stop playing white knight to distressed damsels and get on with my mission."

Major Ramesy: That... can't have been a translation of what I said! Cent, are you messing with my translation software?!?

>:=)>
velvetsanity 28th Dec 2016, 5:56 AM edit delete reply

"Of course not. Now get back to work. One more incident of side activity and you'll be facing court martial under charges of insubordination, disobeying a direct order, and every other possible charge I can find in the regulations when you return."
Stormwind13 28th Dec 2016, 10:26 AM edit delete reply

Except I'm on vacation. You have NOTHING to do with this mission, CentComm. So as to not start a(-nother) war.
Centcomm 28th Dec 2016, 12:06 PM edit delete reply

heheh
Sheela 28th Dec 2016, 8:05 PM edit delete reply

My hovercraft is definitely full of eels.

Say, does your nipple explode with desire too ?
Just_IDD 28th Dec 2016, 3:55 PM edit delete reply
I'm wondering why centy is even on the call still. A call even if it is encrypted is still radiating from his location being a beacon. His suit is still yelling loudly on the Luna Comm frequency. And its yelling gibberish.

Gilrandir 28th Dec 2016, 6:06 PM edit delete reply
Assuming they're using spread-spectrum techniques, there isn't a frequency involved and the chance of detection is less. (Not zero, but less.)

I expect, the need for a diplomatic solution having been calculated, CentComm wants to start a personal evaluation of Maxus as soon as possible, as well as having an emotional need to see for herself that Lynn is safe as soon as possible. By implication, Marcus is the only one with hardware to provide a secure link to CentComm, TeeDee and Ada only have secure links to the rest of the mission team -- and, if my supposition is right, only voice, and not visuals.
Marcus Ramesy 29th Dec 2016, 9:32 AM edit delete reply

CentCom is onboard now so she can have real time updates to what is going on as opposed to waiting for the information to be sent to her.
Marcus Ramesy 29th Dec 2016, 9:35 AM edit delete reply

and you are correct in regards to the hardware aspect of things.. My communications package is classified.. but it does offer some nice discounts on home entertainment... as for video .. both ada and teedee nad Dr. Silver are wearing equipment that allows for me to see what they are seeing and in turn CentCom gets to see what they see as well..
Gilrandir 29th Dec 2016, 9:41 AM edit delete reply
Ordinarily I wouldn't ask, but this is CentComm ...

Do they know that they are wearing equipment that provides visual data to Marcus (and, through him, to CentComm)? ^_^
Gilrandir 29th Dec 2016, 5:57 PM edit delete reply
Perhaps that inconsequential detail was omitted during the mission briefing? ^_^
Marcus Ramesy 1st Jan 2017, 7:56 PM edit delete reply

yes.. they are aware... its how we are able to keep up with what every one is doing... and allows for C3 oerations in the field.
KarToon12 28th Dec 2016, 6:59 PM edit delete reply

My hovercraft is full of eels!

"Coca-cola brings your ancestors back to life." (First attempt to translate coke slogan into Chinese. This was discovered after the ads appeared in print in China.)
Dragonrider 29th Dec 2016, 7:19 AM edit delete reply

That's better than the first English to Russian the CIA did.
Sheela 29th Dec 2016, 10:53 AM edit delete reply

I will not buy this record, it is scratched.
CptKerion 29th Dec 2016, 2:31 PM edit delete reply
This is similar to the whole situation is crazy
Dragonrider 29th Dec 2016, 5:36 PM edit delete reply

@Sheela: you scratched it with the dewclaw on your right front paw, you bought it.
Sheela 29th Dec 2016, 6:15 PM edit delete reply

CptKerion 29th Dec 2016, 6:16 PM edit delete reply
Careful, lest she recoup the cost via your socks.
DLKmusic 29th Dec 2016, 7:25 PM edit delete reply

I'm guessing this might be old news to everyone, but if you haven't checked out "Google Translate sings", you'll find this hilarious!
