Maxus might want to hurry before this becomes a minor fire fight with major repercussions.
Gilrandir 26th Jan 2017, 9:29 PM edit delete reply
Maxus would seem (to me) to be unlikely to arrive at all, unless a firefight breaks out -- and then only much too late.

It looks like Dolly and Lynn have gone their separate way to Docking Bay 5A and Dolly's Nevarro, while TeeDee, Ada, etc., have gone to 5B and Kyle's Dart. If Maxus is going anywhere, wouldn't it also be to 5B?
Dragonrider 26th Jan 2017, 10:57 PM edit delete reply

He will go to 5B then to the Nevarro with Tee Dee to thank Dolly and apologize again to Lynn(IMNHO)
Gilrandir 26th Jan 2017, 11:16 PM edit delete reply
I would expect TeeDee to be exiting with Dr. Silver, Marcus, Mr. Black, etc. (If there's no room for her in the Dart -- otherwise, of course she will be staying with Ada.) If Maxus goes that route, and Dolly has her way, I'd expect him to find nothing in 5A except exhaust fumes. But there may have been some off-camera discussions about arrangements of which I am not aware. (I note that TeeDee said she'd hitch a ride with the Taylors, but Dolly certainly didn't agree and Marcus has yet to be heard from.)

Also, if this is the reception that the recognized owner of the vehicle in question gets in 5A, there's a very real possibility that TeeDee is already kicking off a firefight in 5B as they proceed to STEAL Kyle's Dart. After all, none of the personnel there are going to recognize anyone except the unconscious Princess Acantha -- and when TeeDee says she'll get the engine running, it's unlikely she intends to let a little armed resistance stop her. ^_^
Dragonrider 27th Jan 2017, 6:14 AM edit delete reply

Dolly will not leave without TeeDee, she provided immediate med care to Dolly after the fight, was a guard when during the final the Exfil from the Tram tunnel, after shooting up on pain killers Dolly won't be in any shape to pilot the Nevarro, Lynn has no idea how to con that beast back to New Troy, So that leaves TeeDee as pilot.
megados 27th Jan 2017, 7:03 AM edit delete reply

Yes, TeeDee said she was going to be traveling with Lynn and Dolly here. She's going to make sure Acantha, Ada, and Noctis are set to go first, then talk to Marcus.
Sheela 28th Jan 2017, 6:33 AM edit delete reply

If memory serves, the Dart only has 3 seats, one for Ada, one for Acantha and one for her bodyguard, Noctis.

Everyone else is going in the Navarro. Heck, I suspect that these two might end up going as well, they were after all friendly with Dolly and Ceci last they met. Not that there is a lot of Ceci left, but still.
Gilrandir 28th Jan 2017, 10:47 AM edit delete reply
Was there ever a canon statement about the Dart's capacity, @Sheela? I know I speculated a bit in the comments that it looked unlikely to me to offer anything but 2x2 capacity, at best; but, I don't recall anything definitive from the creatrices.

As for everyone else going in the Navarro, ... I expect that Mr. Black would be loathe to leave his beast behind and don't see why the rest would necessarily choose to abandon it.
megados 28th Jan 2017, 12:22 PM edit delete reply

AFAIK Dolly, Lynn, and TeeDee were going in the Navarro. I was never sure if there was to be anyone else. Acantha, Ada, and Noctis were going In the Dart because it is fast enough to get the New Troy in time. Here is where they discuss that. I don't remember if or where they discuss who's following up in the Navarro.
Sheela 29th Jan 2017, 4:26 AM edit delete reply

@Gilrandir
You're right, they haven't talked about it's capacity, except "it's small", I honestly don't know where I got the idea that it's a three person craft.
megados 26th Jan 2017, 9:07 PM edit delete reply

Dolly is getting experience in what us poor humans go through. Her knee must hurt like hell. I think her F- bomb is appropriate. :)
Gilrandir 26th Jan 2017, 9:32 PM edit delete reply
Actually, Dolly, the pain sensors can be shut off, with the appropriate equipment.

They're called 'opiates'. ^_^ (And I suspect some of them are available in that medkit.)
megados 28th Jan 2017, 5:48 AM edit delete reply

Well, that may be possible, as well as it might also be possible for TeeDee to immobilize her leg, once she gets there. After stumping around on it all the way to the hangar, Dolly has probably aggravated it a lot more. Just getting it splinted would help a lot. It all depends on just how much time is available, I guess.
jamie59 26th Jan 2017, 9:08 PM edit delete reply

She'll swear even more when she finds the upgrade includes PMS.
Sheela 28th Jan 2017, 6:35 AM edit delete reply

That does raise the question :
Does Dolly menstruate now ?

I'm thinking .... maybe?
Gilrandir 28th Jan 2017, 10:50 AM edit delete reply
SPIKY MAGIC HATE BALL ... <shake-Ow!> ... <shake-Ow!> ... <shake-Ow!> ... Ow! All right, all right already .... sheesh.

^_^
Dragonrider 28th Jan 2017, 3:19 PM edit delete reply

@Sheela: I ask when the new package was unveiled if she could now reproduce, the answer was No Way therefore I doubt she can or does menstruate or have PMS. However her temper when she cuts loose on Cent Com will make PMS look like a lovely day in the park. Remember get your seats early I have the New Troy arena booked for the event and also have all closed circuit and WiFi rights. Plan on retiring after that.
Gilrandir 28th Jan 2017, 6:54 PM edit delete reply
(I can't believe I get to do this ... and as part of a legitimate and relevant comment -- and @Tokyo Rose can do nothing but fume impotently ^_^)

If Dolly is supposed to able to defeat even in-depth medical scans, then she is probably running human-normal estrogen levels and has human-like estrogen cycles. However, her pseudo-ovaries probably aren't producing any eggs, which is why she can't engender progeny. The estrogen levels, however, should be contributing in a large way to many PMS-like symptoms at the appropriate time in the cycle. Of course, the technology may not work that way at all. Only the creatrices know for sure.

Dolly has no eggs. ^_^
megados 28th Jan 2017, 8:03 PM edit delete reply

I would guess that it's pssible that Tokyo Rose is busy at the moment. Shaking the spiky ball just makes it take longer because it jiggles her hand, and she has to start over. XD

I really didn't give it much thought before, but now that it's been brought up, my guess is that it is not a very in-depth, (as in data over time)** more basic scan which might not check such detailed bodily information. Just a heartbeat, body temperature, respiration, maybe blood pressure . . . . she can have an estrogen level, but a test of her cycle would have to be done over time, and would seem unlikely. If they're just doing a sort-out of androids vs. humans, they probably only take a few seconds. :D
**edited for more clarity
Just my guess though . . .
Sheela 29th Jan 2017, 4:29 AM edit delete reply

But that's not the important part :

DOES DOLLY HAVE EGGS ?
Omelet making doggies wants to know!
Dragonrider 29th Jan 2017, 3:13 PM edit delete reply

If you ask her how she likes her eggs and she replies, scrambled and unfertilized yes she has eggs. However I do recall one of our Authoresses stated she, or possibly Gallina, was unable to reproduce because of the mechanical elements of her composition. Were she free of mechanical components she would be a biological construct or modified by the Dryads so she could conceive. If she hooks up with Breaker possibly his Dryad could modify her so they could have children, however I can't see her leaving the Taylors except for short vacation to visit friends.
Tokyo Rose 29th Jan 2017, 5:33 PM edit delete reply

No, Dolly doesn't menstruate, nor does she have functioning ovaries.
Stormwind13 26th Jan 2017, 9:19 PM edit delete reply

=O Dolly, LANGUAGE... especially around the children!

Not that I could blame her, I would be cussing like... ROSE if I had that knee damage!

Nobody can curse like Rose.
Stormwind13 27th Jan 2017, 7:43 AM edit delete reply

Probably not, chk. If I had that level of damage to my knee though, I would be TRYING to. :-D

And TeeDee would be giving pointers. :)

Gilrandir 26th Jan 2017, 9:49 PM edit delete reply
Well, we don't know the name of the slave-in-charge, but the soldier is "Lucianus", unless I miss my guess. And what I believe to be their first appearance may be found here. Just for those who may be curious. (Unless that's her as a very small background figure in the first panel of this.)

I also note that Lucianus still doesn't seem to have found his gauntlets. He'd better hope Maxus doesn't come this way. ^_^
Centcomm 26th Jan 2017, 11:56 PM edit delete reply

Yep you nailed both of her previous appearances.
robnot 27th Jan 2017, 9:59 AM edit delete reply
yep,, she's the fuel tech,,
Just_IDD 27th Jan 2017, 12:07 AM edit delete reply
Maybe he found his gauntlets but he's lost his helm. Its possible he was somehow injured. Though that's now twice that we've seen a slave/civ with a weapon. I think she has something going with the redshell. She's certainly protecting him.

Though I don't know why Dolly was so pigheaded that she didn't let Ada treat her knee. That kit was supposed to be good for battlefield use. I can't believe its tapped out already.
Gilrandir 27th Jan 2017, 12:19 AM edit delete reply
His hands are still bare. From his posture (and the fact that he appears to have left his rifle out of easy arm's reach) I agree with you that he appears to have been wounded in some previous action. The appearance of the slave with a second rifle implies that they were having a sale on bodyguard licenses down at the slave administration offices this week. ^_^ If she were using his (non-ID locked) rifle instead, it would be a plausible consequence of him having been wounded. (At least in my opinion.)

As for battle damage ... yeah, it looks like Dolly overdid the 'iron-man' thing. On the other hand, Tennyo was supposed to have sustained significant battle damage, but when she appeared there seemed not to be a mark on her. Maybe Dolly's just being a whiny puppy and she should suck it up. ^_^ The nanomachines have already healed all her damage and she's just milking it for all the sympathy from Lynn she can get. (For anyone in doubt, the preceding may not have been completely sincere. ^_^)
Tokyo Rose 27th Jan 2017, 3:53 AM edit delete reply

Tennyo was the focus of a very powerful EMP burst; though it didn't shut her down, as Damnatio Memoriae had hoped, it did knock her highly sophisticated comm suite offline for a time. That's why she didn't answer Noctis's radio call back in "Mission Control". (Nisha was the one who reported back directly that she'd been damaged.)
Dragonrider 28th Jan 2017, 9:27 AM edit delete reply

A. The nano machines won't fix a destroyed knee. Kali knew she had to put Dolly down to keep her from stopping the Mission left her to avenge Acantha by killing Douche for Brains. She also knew if Lynn Taylor had any chance of survival she needed Dolly, she thought there was no chance to save Acantha so she balanced the attack to be immediately disabling but survivable with help to protect Lynn.
B.The woman with the gun has no slave color so she is a "free", as free as Dreckhead allowed citizens to be, Citizen.
antrik 28th Jan 2017, 10:30 AM edit delete reply
"Slave color"? You mean collar? Looks very much like a slave collar to me in the last panel...
Dragonrider 28th Jan 2017, 3:23 PM edit delete reply

Missed that then as I understand Nova Roma laws she is under death sentence for possessing a weapon much less using it against troops even if the troops are the scum of the earth.
Gilrandir 28th Jan 2017, 6:46 PM edit delete reply
We have already been told during the discussion about Septimus that slaves can get bodyguard licenses to carry and use weapons.
megados 29th Jan 2017, 6:45 AM edit delete reply

@ Dragonrider That brings up two things I am unclear about. The first, is whether Kali was specifically instructed to end Decimus in the event Acantha died, or was she given an instance to exercise her own judgement at that time? I read it as that she was given the opportunity to decide for herself, (executing code libertatum) but she so hated Douche that she killed him out of rage and despair. Either way, the outcome is the same I guess, but my thought is that if it was an order, she might not have killed herself in the process.

The second question is simpler. If Kali reasoned out her disabling attack on Dolly in this way, would that not mean she knew that Dolly was an android?
Stormwind13 29th Jan 2017, 8:03 AM edit delete reply

Kali KNEW, megados. On page Game On (current page 1359, 6 May 2016), Dolly and Kali exchanged... pleasantries... where Kali identified Dolly as the "Taylor guardian".
megados 29th Jan 2017, 8:23 AM edit delete reply

Thanks, Stormwind13. I do remember that, but I guess I didn't make the connection. That leads me, then, to another question. How did she know?
*edit*
Also, I still don't know Kali's motivations re: Decimus. Was she acting under orders, or allowed to make her own decision?
Dragonrider 29th Jan 2017, 3:26 PM edit delete reply

She told Douchehead that his father had modified her programming so she could avenge Acantha. Her final statement "The House Of Livius Is Ended; Let Nova Roma End With It. Self-Destruct engaged. That was number 1371, in 1370 she stated she was free to choose her own response and was no longer bound to the Throne of Nova Roma.
megados 29th Jan 2017, 4:12 PM edit delete reply

Thanks, Dragonrider. I had thought that it was her choice, and when you mentioned 'mission' I misconstrued it as having been ordered. I thought it a rather tragic end for her.
Tokyo Rose 29th Jan 2017, 5:36 PM edit delete reply

@megados

"Libertatem" freed Kali from the constraints of her programming. Valerius wanted it to be possible for her to choose for herself what course of action to follow if Decimus ever intentionally took lethal action towards Acantha.

Kali knew Dolly was the Taylor guardian because she knew the Taylor guardian was a blue-and-white-haired, green-eyed gynoid, and here was a blue-and-white-haired, green-eyed female protecting Lynn Taylor.
megados 29th Jan 2017, 6:08 PM edit delete reply

Thank you, Rose. That clears up a lot for me. That was something eating at the back of my mind since it happened, and this is the first solid confirmation I've gotten. I liked Kali, and was saddened at her loss.

As for how she knew who Dolly was, I should have figured it out. :/

I owe ya. :)
Mark_L_A 27th Jan 2017, 2:13 AM edit delete reply

Probably because of Acantha's injuries, Dolly was more concerned about Acantha than her knee.

She IS a Guardian/Protector and she protects even at the cost of herself.
Tokyo Rose 27th Jan 2017, 3:54 AM edit delete reply

The redshell may owe her money.

The Old Scribe 26th Jan 2017, 10:18 PM edit delete reply

'Chaotic' is a gross understatement, Dolly. It's getting so you can't tell the players without a program. General rule is if it's wearing blue armor, shoot and keep shooting. All others, check first, then shoot.

Girl with gun seems to be new to this game. You don't challenge and/or fire from an exposed position.

Calliope and CentComm were thinking that you need to have the proper sensory experience of a human if you are to pull off this disguise. I have a good feeling that analgesics would work.

Mark_L_A 27th Jan 2017, 2:31 AM edit delete reply

She could be using Lucianus'second blaster from his back. And since he ISN'T a Praetorian, his weapons might not be Code or ID Locked, or he knows how to over-ride that function for emergencies.

As for the fuel technician, her interplay with Lucianus earlier shows that she likes him, possibly even a real friendship if not more.
mjkj 27th Jan 2017, 5:30 AM edit delete reply

...or he owes her money from the poker night...
Dragonrider 27th Jan 2017, 6:24 AM edit delete reply

From what he said she gets some very nice additions to her life style based on his gambling losses. That isn't to say they may well have a very enjoyable relationship where he doesn't always have to go home broke, sometimes he stays at her place, broke.
Gilrandir 27th Jan 2017, 8:19 AM edit delete reply
I'm going to assume (per our previous discussions) that since he's regular army, rather than Praetorian, his weapons are not ID-locked, so, I agree with you there, @Mark_L_A. However, as I recall, the standard armored trooper loadout has been one back-mounted firearm and one back-mounted power blade, not two firearms. I could be wrong, though.
Mark_L_A 27th Jan 2017, 1:49 PM edit delete reply

They carried a longarm and the one on their back appeared to be similar to a SMG or CGB rifle. But almost all of them had a longarm plus the second weapon and power blade on their back.
Centcomm 27th Jan 2017, 3:49 PM edit delete reply

Actually shes using her own weapon. The two of them have had to fight the odd Pretorians. at least untill she had shut down the elevator that was overridden by Noctis. and thats how Dolly and Lynn got there. Ada and TD are headed to the other hangar Marcus and the rest are headed to this hangar.
Sheela 29th Jan 2017, 4:34 AM edit delete reply

I'm thinking that all service weapons would be ID-locked.
Police, military, praetorians, cassians ... the lot.

However, the owner of a weapon would also be able to add another person to the ID-lock - So he could hand it over in case of an emergency where he was injured.
Gilrandir 29th Jan 2017, 5:42 AM edit delete reply
Some considerations ...

Allowing the user to re-key in the field is of limited utility if the owner is immediately killed (by, say, a sniper round to the head or an artillery shell), so you still end up with a lot of 'useless weapons' strewn on the battlefield until you can get them back to an armorer with a 'master key'. Only now they're more expensive useless weapons.

Any re-keying process simple enough, easy enough, and reliable enough to be used by the lowest echelon trooper under battlefield conditions would likely be easily circumvented by a reasonably sophisticated enemy. Unless you are using magic-tech, for example, a dead-man's palm print works just as well as a live man's palm print to unlock a weapon. Voice prints would seem likely to fail in high-stress environments (i.e., combat), etc., etc. Which means you've added a significant cost, weight, and reliability component for comparatively little additional security.

Things on the battlefield break ... a lot. What happens when your ID-lock fails and refuses to permit the authorized user to operate his weapon? If a simple failure does not prevent the weapon from operating, then disabling the protection is probably a simple operation.

If your troops have a habit of losing their weapons to the enemy on a regular and consistent basis with such high frequency as to justify the additional expense, there are probably better things (such as training, or additional troops) you could be spending that money on. ^_^

Just my opinions, of course.
robnot 27th Jan 2017, 10:24 AM edit delete reply

...just because some military clown thought it looked better...?
Centcomm 27th Jan 2017, 12:36 PM edit delete reply

heh.. I actually didnt make the texture for that but the Caduceus is the accepted Medical insigna in many areas and City States. LOL The other symbol is used by NTSR to inidicate a paramedic rather than a doctor. Ie Teedee rather than Doctor Demark Ada is a advanced EMT but is qualified almost as much as a doctor or nurse.
Timotheus 27th Jan 2017, 12:53 PM edit delete reply

Because the US army was too lazy to look up the right symbol when they started marking equipment for the then new medical corp. "What'll we paint on this wagon top?" "How about that Greek God's medical staff." "What's it look like?" "Snakes around a staff with wings, I think." They didn't realize it was the wrong staff until a couple years later, and by then no one wanted to remark everything (or admit to the mistake).
Gilrandir 27th Jan 2017, 1:08 PM edit delete reply
Hey, if a stick with a snake does healing, then shouldn't a stick with two snakes heal twice as much? Plus wings! Wings make everything better, right? ^_^
Sheela 29th Jan 2017, 4:38 AM edit delete reply

Ha ha, but yeah, it's the US Army Medical Corps Branch Plaque - It's all their fault.

The adoption, in 1902, of the caduceus for US Army medical officer uniforms popularized the erroneous use of the symbol throughout the medical field in the United States.

Tokyo Rose 29th Jan 2017, 5:44 PM edit delete reply

Try "two hours"; the attack kicked off at 0400.

I have steadfastly refused to timestamp everything because that locks us into a too-rigid framework. I've done it for this particular sequence because knowing who is where at what time became crucially important in telling the story.
Stormwind13 29th Jan 2017, 8:40 PM edit delete reply

I think they were talking about for the ENTIRE sequence Rose. From Lynn leaving New Troy until Douchimus buying it. I mean, it hasn't been TOO long, but... had to be 3 weeks or so, I would think.

She's using her own weapon? I would think that slaves in Nova Roma would not be permitted to own weapons.
Timotheus 28th Jan 2017, 2:08 PM edit delete reply

I would believe it would greatly depend on the slave's status and position. As in ancient Rome and many other slave based cultures, there are "slaves" and then there are "SLAVES". Her neck band is gold and she has control of a palace hanger.
Centcomm 28th Jan 2017, 10:04 PM edit delete reply

Yes Tim called it. The mechanic is just shy of being a citizen. She does have rights and protections under Roma law. and like other romans she is allowed to be armed.
Dragonrider 28th Jan 2017, 3:34 PM edit delete reply

Just had a fun idea, why not ship Dari McCarthy To Dolly as a Thank You gift. Convince her she was going to be a punching bag, and sex slave for exclusive use of the Taylor Family and their Guests. Of course Dolly would turn her over to the courts for prosecution as Lynns physical Kidnapper but holding her in a cell for a few days and allowing Lynn to visit her and gloat would do wonders for her psychic.
Centcomm 28th Jan 2017, 10:04 PM edit delete reply

snirks ok i chuckled at that.
Sheela 29th Jan 2017, 4:43 AM edit delete reply

I think we had some ideas about what to do with Dari back in the days, and I think the worst we could come up with was giving her to the Prince. Happily, that's no longer possible.

So I think eternal sewage duty seems like a good use for Dari ... and possibly the occasional use as punching bag for Dolly. :D
