RE the Alt-Text: I'm sure there will be a video of Ada blowing off the Cent-doll, which will go viral!

Teedee can watch it over and over, then watch video's of other people reacting to it, then do a reaction compilation...

Teedee will be quite busy in the coming weeks, it seems!

But rumor also has it the fun parts are missing.

Just wondering if Cent-Comm actually started out as a sexbot, before she sparked? xD
Centcomm 29th Mar 2022, 5:50 AM edit delete reply

Nope she just picked the sex bot as a Puppet as she felt she was being fucked anyway. Cent is a full AI.
Dragonrider 2nd Apr 2017, 9:10 PM edit delete reply

That's an up yours with a blockbuster bomb Bitch. If I ever saw one, don't think Centcom planned this reception from Ada. Oh well lifes a bitch and then you meet a bigger one.
Why do I think they will loose Acantha at least once during the procedure? Also betting Lynn has her Mother meet her at the Hospital so Acantha has a friendly face to wake up to.
Guest 4th Apr 2017, 6:12 PM edit delete reply
@dragonrider. It seems that Cent-Comm is looking at Noctis and not at Ada. Sort of eye to eye after the introduction.

Cent-Comm is NOT happy at being blown off...^^;;;;;
Fairportfan 2nd Apr 2017, 9:52 PM edit delete reply

It's good for her.

Meanwhile, Noctis whispers in a few ears, maybe has some Very Old Pictures available...
Gilrandir 2nd Apr 2017, 10:37 PM edit delete reply
I must be completely failing to correctly interpret any of these facial expressions or body language postures. Why does anyone think CentComm is upset or angry?

As far as I can tell, her (doll's) posture is reserved, her expression neutral. On the previous page we just saw her thinking that she was going to let Ada's choices play out, and we have an excellent recent example (with Amy) of how CentComm does react when she is unhappy with an employee's response -- which she isn't doing here.

What am I missing? From where is all this vicarious vengeance and sense of righteous triumph over pink-haired villainy being generated?
Timotheus 2nd Apr 2017, 11:31 PM edit delete reply

Got me. I think Centcomm is playing things exactly the way she wants, well within her range of variables. She can vaporize any rogue elements that turn up at her discretion in a contained area. So let the game begin.
HiFranc 3rd Apr 2017, 2:21 AM edit delete reply

I agree with you. However, no matter how much it's part of her plan, she is going to have to discipline Ada - disobeying a direct order in view of a foreign combat droid - that can't be left to rest.
Tokyo Rose 3rd Apr 2017, 12:41 AM edit delete reply

Cent-Comm may suffer from Resting Bitch Face. (I think it might partly be the bangs of her hair making it hard to see her eyebrows and throwing shadows around her eyes. Her eyes look rather scowly in panel 3.)
Just_IDD 3rd Apr 2017, 2:15 AM edit delete reply
Unless @Dragonrider is correct, Ada basically said "Sit on it and spin Pinky." I would imagine that Ada is correctly pissed about the treatment of Teedee and her own treatment with regards to her officially reported status of MIA.
antrik 3rd Apr 2017, 2:07 PM edit delete reply
To me Commie's expression definitely looks like frowning.

(Admittedly, she seems to have a bit of a permanent frown... But this seems more pronounced than the default state :-) )

While she doesn't experience feelings the way we do, she does seem to use facial expressions on her dolls to non-verbally communicate her disapproval.
megados 3rd Apr 2017, 5:54 AM edit delete reply

Centcomm is not happy, but Centcomm is not pissed off either, as I read it. Maybe she is just nonplussed?

Everyone calls Centcomm evil, but really, I think she's just staunchly pragmatic. The "This is the best calculated way I have to do this, and sorry if this causes your demise" kind of pragmatic. Totally emotionless, just the roll of the dice. Calculate-do. People with emotions see this as evil. So that is why it isn't surprising that she counts on Ada's ability to "always and reliably read a situation, and come to the correct emotions". She is relying on it right now, to minimize ordinance expenditure, and casualties, (yes, probably in that order).

In the end, my read on it is that she is playing the Ada / emotional scenario, and since it's not easily quantifiable, she doesn't have any exact values for the many variables. I could see that as a bit . . . disconcerting for her.
Stormwind13 3rd Apr 2017, 6:48 AM edit delete reply

Yeah CentComm is not accustomed to being blown off. Even if she kind of expected it, she isn't totally happy right now. The ellipsis seems to be CentComm's response to certain 'insubordination'.

This might be seen as a closure ellipsis in fact. Remember CentComm's response to TeeDee's shooting her doll then telling her off when CentComm tried to charge her for the doll (Page of Staves 31 October 2012)? CentComm hasn't made too many friends recently, has she? :-P
Gilrandir 3rd Apr 2017, 7:16 AM edit delete reply
But CentComm gets defied on a regular basis, I don't understand why anyone would imagine it to be an unexpected occurrence. We've seen it so far from Dolly, TeeDee, Mira, Calliope (though that was a special case), Marcus and (indirectly) Noctis. And that's just in the span of (at most) a couple of weeks. "Ho hum. I've got a brain the size of a planet, but does anyone listen to me? No."

If you really want to shock CentComm, do what she asks without arguing (for once). ^_^
megados 3rd Apr 2017, 6:04 PM edit delete reply

Well, Ada too. That is seven people at various times. I can't really say that is a regular basis but I take your point. I would toss Noctis out of that group because she owes no obedience to Centcomm (except indirectly through Acantha, but that was never specified as a condition), and really doesn't care what Centcomm thinks about it. We pretty much know, that she would trust Ada's, Calliope's, or Marcus' judgement in many instances, and let them slide. Centcomm realizes that there are times where quibbling over something reduces efficiency. I don't think she is any kind of pushover based on that though. Bottom line, I think, is that Centcomm doesn't know how to "wing it", and at times she needs people who do, so she lets some things go.

I could be wrong, however.
guest1 2nd Apr 2017, 9:25 PM edit delete reply
an yes they are running,,, that bed is moving at a good speed..
also if all goes well Acantha will be out of operation , an might be awake by the time the rest arrive...
megados 2nd Apr 2017, 9:28 PM edit delete reply

Ada's got guts! No doubt she's gonna get some static at that debriefing. Looks like Noctis has a new best friend; she couldn't have a better one!

Hopefully Acantha's surgery goes smoothly!
antrik 3rd Apr 2017, 1:59 PM edit delete reply
She has her priorities, and she knows her own value -- Commie knows there is not point in arguing...

I wonder what Amy is thinking, in view of the reaction *she* got from Commie just a minute ago :-)
megados 3rd Apr 2017, 4:26 PM edit delete reply

Well, I hope whatever Amy's thinking, that she also includes thinking about not having enough seniority or status yet to get away with lipping off to Centcomm! :D
The Old Scribe 2nd Apr 2017, 9:34 PM edit delete reply

Being so businesslike and 'Mr. Spock-ish', I'm surprised Centy even bothers to have her avatars look human, much less look like sexbots. You'd think she'd be content with hovering eye drones everywhere since she has no need to be physically anywhere. It's not like she wants or needs to be 'one of the guys' or anything. Just very curious; to me anyway.
Gilrandir 2nd Apr 2017, 10:45 PM edit delete reply
"The Long Joke" in the Luna Star webcomic addresses the issue of CentComm's (3C's) dolls in more detail and may provide some insights if you haven't already read it. Hope that helps.
Timotheus 2nd Apr 2017, 11:35 PM edit delete reply

Read what I said about non verbal communications under the last installment, and then check out the "Long Joke" like Gilrandir suggests. The two together should explain it all.
From April 2, 2017;
"What I was trying to get across was that a large part of human communication is through non-verbal means. Words and sentences gain much of their meaning through the reading of the visual clues given off by the speaker (refer to blind/deaf communications problems for more details).
For an AI that needs to deal with verbal/visual communications orientated beings (humans, both real and synthetic), it would NEED a visual component (face and body) to speak in an efficient manner. Hence the dolls."
megados 3rd Apr 2017, 6:04 AM edit delete reply

Timotheus, I neglected to mention it until now, but FWIW I think you are right.
mjkj 2nd Apr 2017, 10:48 PM edit delete reply

Yes, she is quite young.

...and you go, Ada!!!

*lol* so, the rumor spread even to Rome... =P
...and now Noctis can attest the truth of it...

Stormwind13 3rd Apr 2017, 5:34 AM edit delete reply

As protected as New Troy's population is mjkj, it has to be vanishingly rare for people Acantha's age to show up in S&R's hands. This may be the first time Anne has ever had to assist someone Acantha's age, especially for an intentionally inflicted injury!
megados 3rd Apr 2017, 6:09 AM edit delete reply

That's a good point, Stormwind13, and that gives me some concern about their experience level with this kind of injury. I hope it won't affect Acantha's treatment!
Stormwind13 3rd Apr 2017, 7:26 AM edit delete reply

Oh I fear they have PLENTY of experience with traumatic injuries, megados. From comments by Marcus, as well as in story with the gutters, it is obvious that New Trojans doesn't stay where it is safe. Just that they have to be older before they get chewed up this way.
megados 3rd Apr 2017, 4:31 PM edit delete reply

You are right, of course. I was thinking more in terms of the specific run-through-with-a-sword type injury.
Rashala 2nd Apr 2017, 11:43 PM edit delete reply

I bejtcha noctis just got data to win a lot of bar bets back home withe the other casssians
antrik 3rd Apr 2017, 1:52 PM edit delete reply
As funny as that would be, to me it doesn't sound like something Noctis would do :-)
Greenwood Goat 3rd Apr 2017, 2:33 AM edit delete reply
Cent-Comm: +++JUDGEMENT DETECTED RE: SEXBOT FRAME+++ +++COMMENCING REMEDIAL ACTION+++ (multicast) Attention all fembot fans. For a limited period only, the famous Nova Roman assassin droid Noctis will be touring New Troy, and will be meeting fans at the following venues...

Ada: The medical facility we are going to is New Troy's main teaching hospital. It also has an excellent trauma facility, and a conference centre attached. There it is now - while intended to hold medical conferences and seminars, the conference centre hosts other events when not being used for those.

Noctis: So I see. Your people certainly work fast. *scans site intently* And it seems that I need to open discussions over use of my likeness in merchandising...

Stormwind13 3rd Apr 2017, 5:21 AM edit delete reply

Actually GG, CentComm might do it for another reason altogether. Putting out decoys could confuse wouldbe troublemakers. Especially if the decoys were Black Angels... :-D. And CentComm wouldn't even have to tweak their personalities, Noctis' and hers outwardly have a LOT in common. :-D
Romfire 3rd Apr 2017, 8:14 AM edit delete reply
If Ada were to invite Cent to come along it would make for some interesting posturing. Something along the lines of:
"Cent, You coming? future head of state here!"
It is a good thing that Noctis is good at suppressing emotional response. It would probably be rude to snicker and bust out laughing when Cent is trying to "converse" with her.
Cent: "I will not hesitate to use any amount of force necessary to destroy you if you step out of line."
Noctis: "So are you based on the SB003 frame or SB004? Snicker, smurk, giggle.
Ictuan 3rd Apr 2017, 10:16 AM edit delete reply
Romfire, your conversation between Cent and Noctis made my day.
Stormwind13 3rd Apr 2017, 10:41 AM edit delete reply

The designers of the sexbots probably didn't leave it at SB003, Romfire. Now you've got me wondering what name the model CentComm is using is named?

Anybody have any suggestions for what the sexbot would be called? Keeping in mind that it was probably named by some 20 year old male that had never been on a date before!
Oni-neko 3rd Apr 2017, 11:09 AM edit delete reply
It wouldn't surprise me if the individual sexbot models were listed with female names, or that 3C(young Centcom) might select one based on the meaning associated with said name. Say 'Angela' whose meaning is based on the Greek for messenger.
Phil 3rd Apr 2017, 11:29 AM edit delete reply
"messenger"... "massager"...
close enough.
Gilrandir 3rd Apr 2017, 11:20 AM edit delete reply
I'm sure it's named after some video game character or avatar that was popular at the time of its initial release. The specific model CentComm is using was obviously initially released under the name "Terri". ^_^
Centcomm 3rd Apr 2017, 12:54 PM edit delete reply

Actually it was the " Pink sex pop " Made in japan at the time. that was about the time they were c hanging the name to shinado as well.
Gilrandir 3rd Apr 2017, 1:34 PM edit delete reply
Was the handheld model marketed as a "PSP"? ^_^
Centcomm 4th Apr 2017, 2:22 AM edit delete reply

Sheela 4th Apr 2017, 6:17 AM edit delete reply

Heh, a handheld version, would be a small pink haired Barbie Doll with a small chat relay that connects to Centcomm Actual via a cellcast network.

Centcomm plays with all the children in New Troy .. every .. damn .. day.
Some say she went insane a long time ago, others think she does it as a stress relief.
All the Pickles 4th Apr 2017, 6:45 PM edit delete reply

That went from sex doll to playing with children disturbingly fast...
Just_IDD 4th Apr 2017, 10:09 PM edit delete reply
" Pink Sex Pop " would be the release version. The project name would be something that obscured the function. Maybe " General Purpose Kink Remover ".

antrik 3rd Apr 2017, 2:17 PM edit delete reply
I like how Ada's sarcastic introduction actually says, "I'm not friends with you right now; and you should learn some manners" :-)

(Also, nice touch with the force-field closing off the hangar.)
guest1 3rd Apr 2017, 10:04 PM edit delete reply
now i haz to ask? iz this doll number 3 " actual " or is she renumbered.? NT AIS 03..
since she said she went through so many dolls...
Ryu Santos 3rd Apr 2017, 10:08 PM edit delete reply

Noctis' early sexbot model comment got me thinking. So I took a good look at the CenntComm doll and thought maybe the bot from Cherry 2000. But an image search proved me wrong.
megados 4th Apr 2017, 6:15 AM edit delete reply

Noctis' reaction to Centcomm's doll is, in itself, interesting.
Sheela 4th Apr 2017, 6:19 AM edit delete reply

This is canon, by way of a comment that Centcomm (the author) made earlier on another page.

Basically, Centcomm chose that chassis to tell the military pundits that controlled her, that she felt like their "whore".
The story didn't say anything about wether or not the wrinkled old dudes took the hint or not.
notStanley 4th Apr 2017, 12:34 PM edit delete reply

wonder if it still gets any mileage fooling newcomers by appearing as a pretty little girl, instead of some monstrous war bot
SeanR 4th Apr 2017, 3:54 PM edit delete reply
Probably not, for two reasons.
Cent Comm has a massive reputation. That'd be like not knowing what, to be kind, Churchill looked like.

It's an old design, so everything about her probably screams anachronism to the current population. In it's way, she's probably as "creepy looking" as Noctis and her sisters were designed to be.
SeanR 4th Apr 2017, 3:50 PM edit delete reply
I don't remember reading a comment on it, but I don't always read all the comments.
That said, it's mentioned in story in Luna Star.
Shortly after the protagonist joins the mission to meet whatever is driving everyone crazy. It's part of her introduction to the team leader.
Gilrandir 28th Mar 2022, 9:53 PM edit delete reply
So, I was archive diving for unrelated reasons, saw this comment, and thought, "Considering the vast array of weapons of mass destruction that CentComm controls, does that make her remotes an entirely different kind of 'blow-up doll'?"
Sheela 29th Mar 2022, 4:14 AM edit delete reply

Oh god, the pun ... bad Gilrandir, BAD !! 🤣
Centcomm 29th Mar 2022, 5:53 AM edit delete reply

oh god the pun.. the PUN! X2
