The white-blond girl in Panel 2 holds the dubious distinction of causing a colossal shitstorm betwixt Artist and Writer.
It started with her being a mutant, escalated to her being a member of a sub-race of snake/human experimental hybrids that bred true and formed their own colony, ramped up further to an attempt to retcon a few characters who have already appeared into being these snake-people too, and ended with the Writer erupting like fucking Vesuvius and burying the entire idea beneath a torrential flaming downpour of searing wrath.
The corpses of other concepts may well have also been entombed within the pyroclastic surge deposits, to one day be discovered by future generations.
missed that No known allergy's and stuff. hopefully Acantha wont have a reaction like Lynn did to regenerex. :D
Also pay close attention : Doctor Iva Smolens is the woman that did my heart surgery and she is a cardio thorasic surgeon she is a also just a awesome lady. That is who this is based on.
And Maribe appears at the graces of Heserpenty of Serpents of old.
Re alt-text: Cent-Comm appears in a lot of places just to glare at people.
I don't know where your concept disagreement ended up, but Mirabe looks good. Her braiding is very detailed. I understand how sometimes disagreements crop up, but I hope that this won't remain a contentious issue. Collisions of ideas happen sometimes. You guys are good at what you do, and this page is a good example of that.
@Tokyo Rose, I thank you for your honesty and your work.
@Centcomm, Thanks for all you do.
Mirabe is an OC Character from "Serpents of Old", done by HeSerpenty. It's a great comic, and Whether full Human, or Human/Serpent Hybrid, I hope we see more of her in Data Chasers! She kinda defines "Sweet and Innocent". HeSerpenty was one of the guest artists while Cent was recovering from her own surgery.
@Rose: I do see both sides of the argument, but I'm still happy to see her here, regardless of her genetic background! She's one of those characters that brings sunshine to everyone around her!
Thanks, DLKmusic. (I'll have to check that out!) I should then, by extension, thank HeSerpenty! When Cent had her surgery, I was not yet commenting, but I was quietly happy that there were those who were willing to help out.
I like Mirabe also, but don't know her very well yet, so I'll take your word for it.
I am grateful for Dr. Smolens, and glad to see her here.
*e: Now that I am more clear on the discussion, I would have to say that DC has been fairly reserved in introducing new genotypes. AFAIC, there is nothing radically wrong with this idea, although going back and redefining existing characters or story could get dicey.
I am comforted by knowing that these creative team meetings are vigorous and exciting. ^_^ Just be sure to keep it out of the gossip columns, unless you give your Patreon subscribers early access. ^_^
Also, as a compromise, I recommend you keep Mirabe as fully human, but let her be portrayed nude and entwined around a pole. That is the traditional pose for a medical staff, isn't it? ^_^
I am highly amused by Dr. Demark's kitty scrubs. Is it fair to assume that this CentComm doll is not NT-AIS-03, but a different doll, instead? I can't quite make out the ID patch on my screen. (And, just as a minor nit, the medical baseline probably should have included the phrase "no known allergies or medications". Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional. Maybe that's taken for granted as a consequence of the gene typing comment, but that seems a far stretch to me.)
When I worked on an ambulance we would chart it as NKDA, and even use NKDA when giving our report. NKDA stands for No Known Drug Allergies. If there were ANY allergies, we would then break down the list of allergies drug or otherwise.
If they had no drug or other allergies we would just use the NKDA as shorthand for no allergies.
Yes, but that's the doll in the hangar who was talking with Ada. This doll appears to have already been here, observing the surgical team's preparations -- which is why I am hoping that it isn't NT-AIS-03.
Of course it may be that the labeling is not unique, or that the doll waited until Ada left the hangar, then ran very fast to get ahead of her and listen in to the surgeons -- but that seems a bit silly to me. ^_^
"Snake/human experimental hybrids"? My first (and only, really) question would be what would be the point of them other than the potential "Gee-Whiz" factor?
Cent gets her teeth into an idea and runs with it because it's cool and she's in the moment; I, as the Continuity Bitch and Writer, am the one who yanks on the reins and screams "BUT WHY?!" a lot.
New Rome has done a lot of gene-tweaking experiments over the years, usually for military purposes. This particular experiment turned out subjects with enhanced senses (including heat reception a la pit vipers) and venom glands. The venom's got actual medical uses--New Rome's bigger on "natural sources" for their pharmacology than New Troy is.
I'm more interested in her reaction to having all of the Reapers scattered around. If I were the good doctor I'd ask that the Patient Creator be removed. Seriously CentCom if you are trying to have people forget what's in the vaults then you shouldn't trot it out whenever someone puts a bug on your plate.
I suspect that is do to specialties, mjkj. Dr. Demark is a trauma (?) specialist (since she works with S&R). While Dr. Smolens is a heart specialist, and therefore is probably the lead on this surgery.
Looks like the surgical team will be something like:
Dr. Smolens -- Lead Surgeon
Dr. Demark -- Assisting
Mirabe -- Scrub Nurse
... with probably a couple of robot medical assistants for tools, manipulators, instrumentation and sponge counts.
The Anaesthesiologist is unaccounted for. Possibly not to be revealed until we reach the OR, but they probably should be tied in to the initial medical team meeting -- remotely by pad, at least. I suppose Mirabe could be the anaesthesiologist, but (to me) she is giving off more of a "nurse" vibe than a "doctor" vibe.
For that to be possible, @DLKmusic, she would probably have to be teleoperating an EtherDrone while in transit back from New Rome -- which would probably fail to freak Noctis out adequately. Maybe she has a twin sister who studied medicine? ^_^
I don't think you want a positronic anaesthesiologist, @Timotheus. From what little I know, that particular discipline demands quite a bit of judgement and intuition as the procedure unfolds and possible complications emerge. I am a little surprised the creative team elected to make Dr. Smolens a pure-strain human. (Though, of course, she may simply have as-yet unrevealed cyber-enhancements, mutant powers, or genetically-engineered improvements beyond the 'baseline'.)
She wanted to have time to get popcorn pizza and beer ready for tedde and the rest so the could sit back and watch as first dolly then Lyn. Then calli the Calli's mother take turns tearing centy actual a new one while rose films for posterity and blackmail!
That snake-human hybrid race sounds like it would have been fun. Too bad they were all wiped out during that devastating eruption of Mount Rose. After all, if you can have one hybrid race, you can have several. Cat-people, for instance... >:=3> Of course, in this sort of milieu, furry modifications could easily be available. There might even be a whole such sub-culture waiting to be revealed! *sigh* In the mean time, I shall content myself with playing with the existing characters and with alt-headcanon: still-alive!Malati.
Tennyo: Are those clip on cat ears? Why are you wearing them?
Malati: A gift from an anonymous admirer! (whisper) Hopefully one of the gladiators! ♥ If there's nothing else going on, I'm going to head down the arena and see if I can obtain a confession! :-3
New Rome can't keep their fingers out of the genetic cookie jar. They keep getting their peanut butter DNA mixed up with their chocolate RNA and so on. Buggers.
They already have cat people, GG. Remember Dusty or her sister, Katya. For that matter, Amalthea (the slave assigned to Dolly) appeared to have some cat DNA too (check out her eyes).
Here's a bizarre thought: Is it legal in New Troy for an android to attempt to pass as a transhuman? Can you put on kitty ears, dentition, and a tail and then go with fully organic eyes, skin, etc.?
That is a strange, but good question. It is my understanding that they would still have to be able to be identifiable as an android. They could look transhuman, but would still have to retain the legal android distinction. That would satisfy the NTAS requirement.
It is a good question, and I don't know if my answer is correct.
There doesn't appear to be any law preventing them from doing so, @velvetsanity. I personally have thought the law discriminatory, but I'm not a New Troy legislator.
I wonder, does Dr. Demark use eye-liner, or are her eyes like that naturally?
(BTW, major object of suspense regarding the next pages: will Ada and Dr. Demark have enough time to exchange pleasantries for saving each other's lives? ;-) )
I'm not sure what has happened, but Data Chasers has fallen sharply this month in TopWebComics standings. I'm not sure why, but it appears that Data Chasers is getting about 100 less votes per day.
If you enjoy Data Chasers please vote daily for it to keep it up near the top (where it belongs, in my opinion). Thank you.

HeSerpenty (Serpents of Old)
RufiAngel (Serpamia Flare)
ArgyleFox (Indifferently Evil)
Spelldeg (Black Gate)
All of them stepped up to the plate, All of them hit Home Runs, and All of them have comics worth checking out!
*takes notes*
I seriously loved being able to do that page for Centy!
DLK is a beautiful, beautiful soul <3

That way no good idea will ever be free!
They'll never find them, so it's all good.:D
(Do doggies even see the Epiphytes as green?...)
This "garden" is also where Sheela keeps the bones, stolen slippers, Incindiary Devices, and WMD's. AND it's booby trapped!
Blue footed ones, of course.

I'd think the doctors might be more concerned about Cella flaunting her biologicals in a medical facility without a lab coat...
Thanks so much! :')
...and I really love her gown (pyjama?) ;) ...and all those cats on it...
Hmmm, Maribe looks really great - only thing missing is the ears and she would make an awesome elf... ;)
Yeah, I hope Acantha will be fine and have no complications... *is worried about her*

Thank you for having her cameo Centy! :D :D
All this medical talk is so LEGIT! I feel like I should be watching this in a show right now! :3
Now can you work miracles on Acantha? :-)

Admittedly it was more explicit on that point before the rewrite...
