Nayeli has learned a great deal from her Mother and her experience, and has passed it on to her daughter, and her people. Their ignorance of others is reduced. This is a good lesson, a great boon, and a fitting remembrance.

I have to wonder what transpired with the rest of her tribe upon learning of Nayeli's interaction with 'the soulless ones'.

I have to admit getting a little misty eyed at this ending. Great story arc, Dizzaster Juice! Well done! It gives us readers a lot to think about.
Centcomm 10th Jul 2017, 12:32 AM edit delete reply

I got more than a but misty.. this was good stuff.

Life is change...
Centcomm 10th Jul 2017, 12:32 AM edit delete reply

that it is.
Sheela 10th Jul 2017, 9:47 AM edit delete reply

Right .. now, if only it would stop changing directions, I might be able to catch up to it, and chase it into a tree !

Jeez, stubborn life !
KarToon12 9th Jul 2017, 9:45 PM edit delete reply

Probably the second-happiest ending any character's gotten, even if it's bitter sweet.
Centcomm 10th Jul 2017, 12:28 AM edit delete reply

agreed..
mjkj 9th Jul 2017, 10:34 PM edit delete reply

Rashala 9th Jul 2017, 11:25 PM edit delete reply

Bittersweet called it but wow 3. + kids and still fit as a panther at least they kept baby delivery knowledge!
HiFranc 9th Jul 2017, 11:43 PM edit delete reply

Are they all hers? I believe that only Kaye is. Notice only Kaye is in the bottom frame.
Centcomm 10th Jul 2017, 12:28 AM edit delete reply

Only one is Hers. :D

Nayeli is a tribeswoman, and a huntress. That lifestyle demands and creates a certain level of fitness.
Rashala 10th Jul 2017, 11:17 PM edit delete reply

Ah a see excuse me gotta get back to something

*rash reenters his secret building facility, its level 99 security perimiter vaporizing anything trying to see what he's building.....though maniacal laughter can be heard!*

A most excellent finish! Very solid writing and images. I would say that is last page is an ending done well rather than a happy ending. It shows that all things change and become more clear yet still leave enough to know that their lives will go on. Just a little different than before.

Nitpick: Should be "whose heart" (and "whose is") in the last panel.
DizzasterJuice 10th Jul 2017, 10:41 AM edit delete reply

I fixed that earlier but Centcomm posted the wrong one. :)
Tokyo Rose 10th Jul 2017, 5:37 PM edit delete reply

DAMMIT CENT! FIX THAT
Centcomm 10th Jul 2017, 5:44 PM edit delete reply

Um .. FIXED! sorry!
Sheela 10th Jul 2017, 5:51 PM edit delete reply

Y-You fixed DizzasterJuice ?!
Does he even have gonads ?

*eyes DizzasterJuice warily*

Ach, mein Gott! >.<

I've always wanted to find the person that started that euphemism and beat them. You're not fixing the animal you're breaking it. If it ain't broke you don't need to fix it.
Tokyo Rose 11th Jul 2017, 5:04 AM edit delete reply

@Just_IDD

Aaaaand now I'm combing through the internet trying to track down how "fix" came to mean "neuter". Most of what I'm finding is just along the lines of "yup, that's another meaning of the word", however.

From the perspective based in the intention to curtail a given animal's reproductive habits, neutering would be considered correcting the unwanted traits and "fixing" a problematic situation. Another possibility is that an animal that's neutered generally becomes calmer and less aggressive, and could be described as "fixed" in the sense of settling or steadying its behavior.

LOL ... the weird stuff that you sometimes end up researching !
And all just because of an innocent comment on a webcomic !
Dragonrider 10th Jul 2017, 8:23 AM edit delete reply

Will this be the theme for Datachasers? Luna Star certainly was like this the protagonists died, their grave was a memorial. Dolly is close to the century mark. Figure she was 5 when Callies mom got her, 30 to 35 where Callie was born. 55 to 60when Lynn was born now she's 73 to 78 assuming Lynn does her space thing that will put her right at or past the century mark. Is she planning on traing Minxand Officer Ray as her repmlacements
for Lynn's child? They both have enough courage.
All the Pickles 10th Jul 2017, 12:15 PM edit delete reply

According to the cast page Dolly is 60 now.

On an artistic level, I'm especially impressed with the sunset in the last frame!

Thanks Dizz!
Stormwind13 10th Jul 2017, 3:44 PM edit delete reply

You are right DLK. Dizz did an awesome job with that sunset. It is gorgeous.

And the TREES! The trees are beautiful!
DizzasterJuice 11th Jul 2017, 1:13 AM edit delete reply

Thank you very much everyone.

I love forest scenes but they are a pain to render because they use lots of transparency maps and that slows render time waaaay down.
PioneerPete 25th Feb 2019, 12:24 AM edit delete reply
Looks better than ever even now. Thank you!
Stormwind13 11th Jul 2017, 8:28 AM edit delete reply

You are so right, CptK. The trees look so natural, I took them for GRANTED!
wright1 13th Jul 2017, 6:40 PM edit delete reply
A lovely tale. There's sadness at the end, but also promise, with Kaye and Nayeli's legacies going on into the future. Who knows what reconciliations and alliances might spring from such seeds...
Stormwind13 13th Jul 2017, 7:39 PM edit delete reply

I don't know if it was meant to or not, but this made me think of Gift of a Useless Man by Alan Dean Foster. There are a lot of parallels, I think, though it could be purely accidental. :-)
