The only argument that I could see for Decimus still being alive is that the safeguards were supposed to kill everybody in the city if he died. Since the people are talking to each other, they are obviously still alive. Somebody is going to ask why, and they need to be able to provide a consistent message.
A reasonable question would have been how Setorius could be sure that the test wasn't spoofed, perhaps by placing cloned tissue in the remains. That would not be a criticism of Setorius, but merely deciding on what to say if there are questions. However, there are eyewitnesses in this case. In addition, there may have been pieces of the implants that would trigger the safeguards. There is also the fact that the safeguards were triggered before being interrupted.
Considering that all that was left was burned bones, he would have had to test bone marrow.
Something that ordinary androids do not have.
Dolly has something like it, but it was so unusual, that even Centcomm noticed it.
AFAIK, not many knew of the contingencies. Most of those who had, also had first hand evidence, or were in communication in some way or other with those who had, that they had been disabled. It spread pretty quickly that Doomsday had been called off.
A gutter in a nearby bar, swears that he saw Dolly the Taylor Guardian stuff Decimus into a sewer, where he still is, surviving on scraps from the streets!
I'm sure there are some that would love to, so in that respect having the senator ask about the validity of the testing is not such a bad idea. But it would help for Axinian to give a detailed reason for why a mis-read is near impossible. and not just a "because I said so".
Nope if they are a specialist they should be able to support their reasons with a valid explanation. You as a non-specialist may not fully understand it but they can give one.
Yep. 'Because I say so' is really 'you lack the knowledge to even begin to understand the first sentence of the explanation, much less have any more clue after I explain, and I’d rather not waste time attempting the impossible task of educating you in the middle of this conversation, because it would take FAR too long and there are more urgent matters to deal with.'
Even if you are fairly certain that they lack the knowledge, "because I say so" is still presumptuous. It's way better to just start explaining, and let them stop you when they realise that they can't make anything of it.
However, the situation here is quite a different one. Pedius didn't just ask for explanation: he actually called the identification into question, on obviously dumb grounds. Calling him out on it is perfectly appropriate.
Just because I love hearing myself talk, I would like to note that Setorius DID answer the question. There was 2 types of materials he had to separate. Android remains, and Human remains.
Since there is no DNA in the remains of an android, even one as sophisticated as Kali, by saying "Are you asking if I am unable to tell the difference between human and Android materials", he is answering the question, albeit in a Superior? Antagonistic? Pretentious? (searching for proper adjective here) tone, which is why he is the Snark-Meister General, and the rest of us are mere mortals!
Hmm, I might go along with 'superior', maybe 'smug', or 'condescending'. He's not so much trying to antagonize, nor is he trying to give the impression he is something he's not. I'm not sure what you're going for here . . . JMO
Beyond that, I don't know what you sound like when you talk, I have only ever seen stuff you type! :D
Any bets that Maxus will be counting down the hours remaining in his regency before this meeting is over? (Of course, I don't think it's even technically started...)
Is it safe to assume the huge crowd of people on the screen in the lower right corner, at night, are using torches and/or bonfires to celebrate the death of Prince Douchebag? :D Or, are they still rioting? Maybe a bit of both?
Also a question that's been nagging me, in the DC universe here how are the dead handled? I mean are there cemeteries for humans and air remain? Markers or anything where relatives and love ones can pay respects?
And how does it differ from place to place ex; in nova Roma and new troy or the wastes?
@Sheela I don't think this is entirely true. As far as I can tell, it seems to be a cultural thing mostly. In Poland for example, cremation is rather uncommon. On the other hand -- at least in Warsaw -- it's normal to have several family members in the same grave (at different levels) -- so density is not actually significantly worse than in a typical urn field...
Also note that a city needs a certain percentage of green areas anyway to be liveable -- so more cemeteries only take away from parks, not from building space...
But compare to a small city in a rural area, like, say the one my mom lives in - It has only about 15k citizens, and they don't even have a crematorium as a courtesy - They only have graveyards there, because the ground is so much cheaper.
New Troy has different procedures.. MOST of the time it involves reclaiming all tissues that can be harvested for genetic or for transplant. Water and chemical harvesting leaves very little actual body.
whats left after that can be compressed down to a diamond or other hardened material and a small memorial icon is left.
As Rose said Rome Generally follows cremation and ashes interment. Other city's and towns have different procedures. Troy also has " Ash Sector. " For memorials or for important people. SOMETIMES body are embalmed and placed within such as Lynn father. Or a holo-grave can be created.
Admittedly, the question as to the identification of a charred beyond recognition corpse as the former ruler is an important point to have verified, so some slack can be allowed here. But not an excessive amount.
Actually just about everyone questions Scientific findings. And in truth its a good thing too. As the only way to prove those findings is to have them stand up in face of such questions.
Yes, scientific findings can and should be questioned on well-founded doubts, by others having some understanding in the field -- usually other scientists. But not by laymen out of ignorance, or following some agenda. That's just retarded.
Everyone always has an agenda (scientist and layperson alike), and laypeople questioning is absolutely required, or you have a class of people that rule unquestioned.
Eh, as far as I can tell, most scientists do not seem to have much of an agenda beyond "I want to figure things out", along with a bit of "I want to show everyone that I'm right"...
(Their employers likely have more of a specific agenda -- but that's an entirely different story :-) )
I wonder whether "laymen" was a bad choice of words. I didn't mean to say that only certified specialists are allowed to question things -- indeed I believe the opposite. Nevertheless, questioning things is only valid if you have enough understanding of the field to actually discuss issues in a meaningful way -- rather than just questioning things arbitrarily from a position of complete ignorance.
"Uh - No . . . That's not it . . . Anybody can tell that . . . Um, I mean an expert like you can easily tell the difference . . . Yeah, yeah . . . That's what I meant . . . Cause you're good . . . . . the best . . . Yep, yep, yep . . . It's all good."
Questioning Setorius' competence? Pedius' days are numbered.
From what we know of the science of Data chasers, there seems no reason to believe it would be difficult for an expert to verify a human's remains versus an older model android. But no assassination is complete without a couple conspiracy theories.
There's always one isn't there? While I like Setorius as a character, I wouldn't want him as my doctor and I definitely wouldn't want to piss him off. Keep digging Pedius.
The Lady Katherine is truly stunning . . .
but
still wondering (OK hoping) if a "bikini contest" is in the offing for Dolly vs Ada?
Perhaps as a Holiday Gift?
I wonder what Pedius was alluding to in questioning Setorius' findings.
Uh ohh! What just happened? Pedius is offline? Looks like the rioting isn't quite over.

And yay, the rage party has turned into a rave-party. :)
I guess if you're a Nova Roman, you can never have too much fire! :D
Thanks, @Centcomm!
He's a specialist for a reason!
Even though he won't very Human.

Maybe we could make an adjective out of his name?
"He's right, but he doesn't have to be so Axinianish about it!"
;D
(and "Eye Candy for our readers", although technically accurate, doesn't answer the question!)
edit: I doublechecked the vote incentive, and it's Katherine, with a "K". But I still want to know who she is, lol!
"Catherine".. second panel,, 1st screen bottom row...

*lol* Setorius' answer =) getting dangerous there...
...oh, and that one female senator really is beautiful... <3
Wow, great vote incentive, thank you, Cent <3
Dumb as troops may be, at least they don't actively undermine his command!

This holds true, even for mega cities of today.
Also note that a city needs a certain percentage of green areas anyway to be liveable -- so more cemeteries only take away from parks, not from building space...

What funerary options procedures do the get?

(How crazy can the guesses get? :D)
"Uh...you mean Decimus was actually an android? See, *this* is why we can’t let androids roam free in our city!"
From what we know of the science of Data chasers, there seems no reason to believe it would be difficult for an expert to verify a human's remains versus an older model android. But no assassination is complete without a couple conspiracy theories.
Although, I probably shouldn't make a habit of arguing his medical advice....
