Yoga Pants? OF COURSE NOT! This is a designer outfit that cost over 10,000 credits. It's entire design is centered around giving off an aura of casual confidence!
The interesting thing to me about the address is that she is NOT commenting on Athena's imminent elevated status. It would appear that she is taking care not to startle her, as it is likely that Acantha has not quite had the bandwidth to realize just how close her royal butt is to sitting on the throne. She's potentially foregoing points for herself by delaying, but clearly this is the right thing to do, both as a person, and for the benefit of New Troy.
At first, I had the idea Lynn was the only reference she made, but yes, it also appears she knows Athena as well. Good eye. Acantha is very well informed, it seems. :D
I wonder whether by "know", Acantha just means she has seen Athena in pictures/recordings (very likely, considering Athena's position, and Acantha's interest in politics); or she has actually met her before? The latter would be very intriguing indeed :-)
Lynn and Athena! Finally! Lynn and Acantha have some catching up to do! Maybe they will get to do some sightseeing before long. (I'm kinda surprised Calliope didn't come along)
Athena sometimes reminds me of Lwoxana Troi. She knows her stuff though! Nice introduction.
I think both Dr. Demark, and Athena will be able to come to their own conclusions rather quickly. They can then help to inform any evaluation of Lynn's mental state, as well as Acantha's to an extent.
Methinks that Centcom has a diplomatic dressing down in the near future. This looks like the inside of a battleship, not the recovery room of a princess on the verge of being crowned!
Oh! oh, oh oh me ! Me me me me ME !
Please pick me, oh, oh .. me ! *bounces up and down excitedly*
Can I upgrade it too ? Oh please, please, please, let me do upgrades! :D
what is your reference "made of"?? all of my anime refer to "of" .. the castle is actually a spaceship.. that happens to hold the lions..
an fyi i have all 3 versions.. SO i wood really love to get the "fourth" ..!!!
@ Boren: umm yeah,, just look at all the Vault-tec failures...
IRL. 90% of the home cold war bunkers were where you could go an die,, already buried. they were not meant to be survivable....
Ahh, but you miss the juiciest part! No mention of Prince Douchbag! In diplomateze, this is an insult of the highest order. I seriously doubt that that her Highness missed the omission. And is smiling on the inside.
Indeed Ummmm :
The word sire in the horse world is usually used in place of father. A horse's father is the sire, and so is the horse's male parent. A foal's sire then is the stallion who was bred to the mare to produce that foal. It is impossible for a mare to be a sire, as sire only refers to the male antecedents of a horse.
Noctis and her horse stance. Sheesh! If she were human, I would be REALLY worried for her health about now. At some point, however, a guard's duties extend beyond the mere physical. This constant outward display of tension is not helpful to Acantha's emotional health. Let's go for a rational assessment of all the possible sources of harm to the princess, hmmm?
I can't help but see this differently. To Noctis, right now, there is no concern or duty more important than keeping Acantha safe. She and her charge are in potentially hostile territory as Noctis sees it, and she is constantly at the ready. She is doing exactly what she should be doing as a competent bodyguard. I don't think it bothers Acantha; she is used to being around Cassians.
Her duties do extend beyond the physical, as she is Princeps of the Cassians. Tennyo is acting Princeps in her absence, and is assuming Noctis' role in NR until her return. :D
From what I have seen, Noctis has a very…economical body language in general. Unless there is some specific reason to move or change position she sees no need to do it. She is in a ready position, she can see the entire room, she has no reason to move. Her muscles do not fatigue as humans would
As for making Acantha nervous, I don't think so. Acantha is used to see the Cassians in a bodyguard role and probably expects her to be constantly vigilant. (Also, as New Rome raised, she mostly sees Noctis as a machine, a machine that can be ignored as long as it does its job, in this case being a watchdog.)
I'd love to know what Noctis was thinking of Athena in that last panel. To the way Noctis was looking at Athena was almost like saying "alrighty then, that's a little over the top." Maybe with a little "don't twitch wrong if you decide to hug anyone" thrown in.
Given the degree that Acantha trusts and is likely used to Noctis, I suspect Noctis being around and on ready might even be reassuring. Especially given the nature of her childhood and some likely deep seeded trust issues thanks to it.
Really, @Sheela? Hmm, I would have guessed differently. She has been around Noctis all her life. I would guess she knows of Noctis' core directives, and would consider her reassuring as a protector, and more or less transparent as a person in the room, due to androids in general in NR being considered as 'equipment'. I might be way off base though.
Sixteen years in the Black Palace with Noctis around doesn't count as being around Noctis? No, it has not been specifically stated that Acantha and Noctis hung out regularly, but I'm pretty sure Acantha knows Noctis.
Knows, sure -- superficially at least... Trusts? Most likely to some extent, since she knows the Cassians' role in general -- but I wouldn't bet on her having much trust in Noctis's judgement etc., unless she knows her much more than superficially, which is not a given IMHO.
@PaulRein might be just a trick of perspective I guess: but it does look to me like Noctis was actually more relaxed in the second panel, and only tensed up again in reaction to Athena?...
LOL touché! No, I don't mean that simply being around someone equates to trust; Dec was a madman and Acantha's being around him really solidified her image of him. She was right not to trust him.
Yes it's true that she avoided Cassians in general because they were, after all, more or less puppets controlled by the madman described above.
My point now, though, is that she more than likely understands that the Cassians are for intents and purposes now in her service, and she logically should also know that they are not likely to harm her. Noctis' deferral to her comment about Noctis not wearing black in her hospital room should have informed her that Noctis was trying to do what she ordered. Further, Noctis' refusal to go against the Doctor's orders should inform her that Noctis was acting in her best interests. Acantha is intelligent, and logically she should be able to work out that Noctis is acting in a way beneficial toward Acantha's good. Because of that, I think Acantha would give her at least tentative trust. :D
Well, Noctis *did* find ways to subvert Decimus's command; so the fact she is a Cassian doesn't mean she can automatically be trusted absolutely...
Though on the flip side, Acantha only knows of this if Maxus told her -- in which case he surely also told her that Noctis's subversion was in Acantha's favour...
Really? Hmm, I would bet that Noctis has, but I am not sure that Acantha has spoken directly with Maxus. If she has, it would have been with Noctis present, so either they didn't discuss it, or the whole story would have been presented, and the nuance would also have been shared.
Indifferent to those she knows, probably. She would be suspicious of those she doesn't, and people she doesn't like, or she mistrusts, would never get that far, I'm guessing.
Curiously, Ladybugs are one of the few living insects in the Datachasers universe that can go toe-to-toe with a Murderturd in a one-on-one fight.
Big, honking mutated insects with a crazy thick shell, they are about 3 metric tonnes of angry and destruction.
And when they graze, they eat about a football field of grass each day - I shudder to think what would happen if those bugs ever decided to form a swarm!
Welcome to the fandom. Once you have looked at Luna Star, there are numerous other webcomics out there to feed your addiction. I'll point you at Belfry (belfrycomics.net) for a start on "enough" to get you started. I'm sure others can suggest other comics & collections to try. Of course, don't forget to check out the Top Web Comics vote button right under the navigation buttons (if you do that sort of thing).
....ok, yeah, yoga pants...
It gets a daily workout, at least!
Noctis probably recognizes her too, and is awaiting the inevitable hug. :D
Athena sometimes reminds me of Lwoxana Troi. She knows her stuff though! Nice introduction.
On the other hand, when she sees what Lynn feels exactly for Acantha, that *might* get a little bit awkward... :-P
/me ducks for cover
I mean, it has legs 'n' everything, and ... wait, how about flying ?
Can it fly like the Helios Tower did in my skit on Comic 982 - Two of Coins ?
Please pick me, oh, oh .. me !
*bounces up and down excitedly*
Can I upgrade it too ? Oh please, please, please, let me do upgrades! :D
That's like a doggy's wet dream, how could I possibly resist ?
I could comb their manes, paint their claws, add bowties to them 'n' everything !!! :D

tho ,, i was looking for the "castle made of lions." ..

On a sidenote, imagine a spaceship full of lions, and you are the only eadible thing around ? Yeah, I don't think that would be a good thing. >_<
"Lord", yes.
You ADDRESS the King, whatever, as "Sire", yes ...
But in this context {speaking of him in the third person}, "sire" means "father.
The condolences are for Valerius, who was indeed Acantha's father. "Sire" would be correct usage.
PS. Awesome new avatar! I approve!
That way she manages to be both personal and intimate with Acantha.

Mind you, that may still be a lot further than she trusts most of Decimus' old chronies.
As far as I understood it, Acantha tried to avoid all Cassians as much as possible.

From our (the readers) POV, we know what Noctis did, and why she did it. We can't really expect Acantha to know all of this.
They just never got the order to take him down.
That said, I don't think Noctis is as hug-phobic as Centcomm.
But if someone else wants to indulge in hugging,
Noctis would probably be indifferent at best about it.
>:=)>

And then .. they twerk!
But yeah, they do prey too ... on Giant rats!
I know, I know, it's a messed up ecosystem.
Which means they are actually competing for food with the murderturds...
Either that, or they *are* food for the Murderturds.
Frankly, Murderturds eat so much that they are competition for everything, even herbivores.
*lol* nice override of Noctis there, Acantha =P ;)
Nice entrance, Athena...
...and even in Lamod =P
She probably thinks high-security, safe quarters ARE comforting to a person who was nearly murdered recently.
But then, they could dress up a corner with a few soft panels, a beanbag, and a nice datapad. :)
I'm all caught up *sad*
I seriously haven't been able to put this down since I started reading.
Check out Luna star as well! It's just as good!
Telling someone to go to HELL in such a way that they look forward to the trip!
