Also, obliquely verified that it was ok to touch Acantha…
…and at the same time both made a positive overture toward Noctis & kicked another rock at Decimus' head. Very smooth, this lady, with multifarious methods.
When she said " . . . pleased you will protect the Princess, and not be swayed by outside concerns . . ." she signifies her understanding that Acantha is well protected, which also indicates her understanding that hostile moves will not be tolerated. Therefore any moves she makes will be non hostile, or suicide.
Rattling Noctis is practically impossible but it seem offering gratitude is one of the best ways to step outside of her expectations. (cf. "Restoring Communications")
Technically correct (or "Deck & myself"); however, as "me & X" is often corrected, many people avoid the usage habitually, resulting in this less-known mistake. I'd put it down to Acantha's youth.
It looks like a vital signs monitor. While she doesn't have a heartbeat, she definitely still breathes and has brainwaves and stuff. It's also possible - maybe even probable - that she still has her natural pacemaker, which could be monitored, even though its output wouldn't be having real effect. Monitoring that could help them determine if that would need replacing as well or not.
Not bad princess, I see that you have not neglected your studies. The "I hope" and "overcome recent events" are safe, and the good ambassador certainly understands and accepts your intent. But to really drive the point, I would go with something along the lines of "I hope to forge a completely new era of relations between our families and cities--one based on friendship, honour, dignity, and respect for persons and their liberties--which will be of benefit of all."
I realize of course, that you are young and recovering from recent events yourself. Again, not bad.
I think it's unrealistic to expect someone in her position to be talking about forging a completely new era at this time. And I'm not sure it would be received so well back home... She just had major surgery, she's very much in the hands of a foreign power, and hasn't been formally recognized in person as the future head of state yet. Of course, some people would expect it. But given that the Nova Roma people already have an organized rebel group... might not be the best plan. Not that the words shouldn't happen, won't happen, but this is just too soon, at least for some people. So if she failed to say them because of not being 100% on her game, that could be fortunate.
This is not a public announcement. Noxis has already informed the princess that her time as princess is at an end. She's stepping up to rule, and she's practising her lines in what is clearly (to her) a safe environment. It's almost play acting with an old friend in preparation for the real deal. In fact, unless there has been a change in the ambassador's posting from Luna to Nova Roma, her introducing herself in such a manner before the actual ambassador's introduction could be seen as a breech of protocol--if it were real. Again, this is play acting. The ambassador is taking the opportunity to get her comfortable with dealing with diplomats. If ever there were a time to ham it up, this is it.
My point is that the exceedingly neutral "overcome recent events" does not even suggest that those events might not be repeated shortly. In fact, I would argue that they slightly, ever so slightly, defy the other to in fact do something about it. The ambassador already set the game by completely skipping over His Doucheness in her remarks. If her princess were a) thirty and not sixteen and b) in a really good frame of mind, she would have continued the game of damning by omission. The "the completely new era" line indicates that she in no way approves of the actions of her predecessor. The terms used to describe the new era would be the opposite of the things she finds objectionable about the old. The "and their liberties", in particular, DOES imply that there will be no more kidnappings.
Certainly, I would not suggest that she speak so aggressively in public before solidifying her support. But do keep in mind that at least some of those rebels were calling for her to assume the throne.
Lynn is here, so maybe she already has? Dr. Demark's opinion would probably also be valuable here. Doesn't Lynn's psych-tech have to sign off too? Possibly, Athena and Dr. Demark can talk with the tech.
I think you're missing the implied "unaccompanied" in the question.
I just realized, Lynn is totally planning to have a night (or three) on out on the town with Acantha. I wonder if they will manage to lose Noctis and Centcom both?
Losing Cent is likely to be significantly harder, since she can access sensors throughout the city (although not everywhere, as shown by the story arc with Minx).
Actually, no, @Lurker314, I didn't miss it. I think the intent here, is to see them interact. Athena and Dr. Demark will be able to see how they interact, and they will likely tell all concerned that Lynn and Acantha would be fine together unaccompanied.
@megados let me remind you that Athena proposed accompanying Lynn on the visit with the *explicit purpose* of observing their interaction, and informing the official head-tech of her findings. (See "Planning something", presently at http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/1560 ) I don't see much room for speculation here...
Yes, that's correct, however the point I seem to be failing to make, is that we also have the lovely and empathic Dr. Demark with her empathic ability who really wasn't mentioned with regard to Lynn. :D
I don't recall if it was mentioned but does Dr. Demark have a psychology/psychiatry degree? Without one, she could give a recommendation, but the psych could overrule her.
I don't remember specifically being told whether she has a psychiatric or psychological degree, but we were told that she is an epiphyte-trained empath, which would be top notch training. I would agree that Lynn's psych tech would have the final say, but I think Dr. Demark's opinion could add a lot of weight to Athena's.
Look back on page 1573-Feeling and you'll see Dr. Demark state that she is qualified to treat psychological as well as physiological issues, and was why she was on the treatment team.
Athena just gave Noctis a verbal hug! She's a Master.
Looks like Acantha and Athena have known each other for a long time. Acantha looks so frail.

Also: Nice to see you out and about, Rose!
... erh ... ooops, got a bit carried away there!
Heck, I almost thought that Centcomm has sacrificed Rose to the server racks.
And, we thought Rose got carried away disguising Kyle!
.. the winter lodge too. :D
