Okay, I read the Alt Text first. It didn't quite prepare me LOL. Upgrade to copper foil at least! Funny thing is, her conspiracy theory fits. :D
Aside from that, Jordan must have some skillz to work around the self destruct on the inhibitor without getting blown up! She must have worked with internal inhibitors before.
Still, it's in their (and Ophelia's) best interests to get her fixed up, get their credits, and be on their way. What could possibly go wrong? >_<
@megdos yep right up until the do the bod-swap. Then the old inhibitor will be with the old synth brain in the old body. That's what @Robnot was referencing.

My impression was that they were going to put Ophelia's head on a different body, or transplant her entire brain/brain case. I don't think they have a Q-drive or any of the necessary upload download equipment there. Also, (I don't remember the exact page) but saving to a Q-drive was described as destructive to the synth brain. So if they got a used body, the synth brain in it would be toast anyway, I think.
Sorry, but associating conspiracy theory advocates with tin-foil hats is such a terribly over-used stereotype that I'd argue that such no longer qualifies as a meme. It's just so ancient and worn out at this point that I'm surprised more people aren't tired of hearing it.
Actually, it reminds me of how tired and worn out a lot of other derogatory terms have become in recent years, like describing people as "racist" or "sexist" or "Nazis". I'm also reminded of how there are a number of other words that people have been overusing or even using wrong, such as "literally" or "ironic".

"Tin foil hats" is one that's been around so long, that it's lost it's original meaning. (robnot alluded to it above) It was once used to describe a specific conspiracy theory, but is now a blanket descriptor of conspiracy theories in general. It now kind of fits in with the misuse of terms you mention.
There are so many things one gets tired of hearing, that it could be a meme unto itself, or several, if one chooses to categorize. :D
For the basic application? No, probably not. However it is arguably easier to solder into more interesting, exotic, and fashionable shapes! However if one practices Origami, that advantage can be rendered moot. XD
After some searching on the subject of "tin foil" vs "aluminum foil", this article caught my eye:
"Tin Foil Hats Actually Make it Easier for the Government to Track Your Thoughts"
Apparently, quote, "...a group of MIT students, prodded by 'a desire to play with some expensive equipment,' tested the effectiveness of foil helmets at blocking various radio frequencies." They approached the problem scientifically. And, ironically, while foil hats shielded wearers from most of the electromagnetic spectrum tested, their results showed it actually amplified frequencies that are associated with the tin foil hat conspiracy, such as those allocated for mobile phones, broadcast satellites and space-to-Earth satellites.
The students involved made some tongue-in-cheek conclusions about their results...
That's interesting, but, I guess, not unexpected. To be honest, I never gave it a lot of thought, but now that you've brought it up, it makes sense. The shape is more like that of a waveguide, or parabolic (well curved anyway) reflector, than a Faraday cage, because it is not an enclosed shield. The cross-section dimension would indicate a range of wavelengths it would or could concentrate.
Ophelia might not know what actually happened. If she was in the field and information given out on a "need to know" basis.
She will know a bit more than miss conspiracy here. But is it in her best interest to tell them?
Never tell your soldier anything they don't need, and if you think there's the slightest chance of them getting caught, feed them at least a little bit of false information.
"Maybe, if their battle bot is any good, they could get a permanent contract to repair, or even design, Cassians."
If they have the skills, that's one thing, but the Cassians are high level security officials, so anyone having anything to do with their well being would have to pass some pretty high security checks, to get proper clearance, I would think. If they can get clearance they might be able to. ;)
I never cease to be fascinated by the backstory. The view from the window is of a similar character to the scene going into the gutter base that was toasted. If strictly canon, then the girls hidey hole is not *too* far from that location. I repeat my earlier observation - the climate is well screwed. There has to be enough contact, either by face to face gossip, or by obfuscated comm link (not radio - thats trackable) to facilitate such chit-chat. Its an odd sort of society, connected enough to have a bush telegraph, but disconnected enough to have gutter/raiders etc, and v. little effective law enforcement. There must be enough agriculture or synth tanks to provide food, that are not subject to the ravages of gutters, and enough trade to distribute that food.
I also suspect that our two gals make some of their cash on betting on the outcome of the robo fights, as well as prize money. Some things really don't change!! %)).
Just a question about old android bodies. Whenever someone gets an upgrade, do new androids buy them as starter bodies?
It seems like that would really save on the body debt.
My "starter" home was build in 1917. We are still in it.
Yes Android body can be refurbished for reuse. Some have alterable faces via the underpinnings other body have a locked face. SO it is possible to run into several androids with the same faces and or builds.
Hopefully they at least carry over their MAC address, so they're not misidentified on ping.
I can see it now. A socially maladjusted android arranges to purchase, second hand, the chassis of a rich android...then arrange for that second android to be forcefully decommissioned so the first android, wearing his old skin and network identifiers can clean out his accounts.
Androids seem to use their unique serial number as their formal name/ident. Dolly is still DOL-E224 after a hunormous upgrade; Ada and TeeDee retain their idents. Just the trailing suffix denoting levels of 'metal'/'meat' seems to change. A cast off chassis does not retain the ident - it would get the ident of the new 'personality'. In this case the trailing suffix might be the same. (At least that's the way I see it on my 6th reread of the comic!!).
I suspect that there would be a fair few Model 3's around as salvage.
Kinda like how Connies old body would be refurbished after she "impulse" bought herself a Model 4.
Thanks for the link, Sheela! I love Connie and that page reminded me just how much of a class act Mr. Black is, especially with the ladies. He could do a lot worse than to hook up with Connie. :)
You realize that these people just confessed to murder in front of a Cassian. The last synth brain they had for their combat bot got 'squished' and they sort of feel inconvenienced and need another one. And they haven't been talking about anyone who had a choice about going into the fights.
A robot has a processor. A synth brain, if I've been reading right, refers to a sapient who just got killed in the ring.
If this were New Troy, then definitely. I imagine this is somewhere out in the wastes around New Rome, where people kill each other all the time. Would Ophelia even care? Also, androids aren't exactly loved in NR, plus, Ivy and Jordan just saved her life. She might not make that big of a deal of it.
They didn't confess to murder (though even if they did, the average Cassian wouldn't care as long as the victim wasn't a Roma citizen). A synth-brain that's lost its higher functions can still be rigged to operate a body. From context, Ophelia assumes Ivy and Jordan salvaged a synth-brain that had no higher functions and used it in that fashion.
Interesting question. In-universe, I have seen a lot of humans who would do just that, but not a single android. That leads me to believe that androids are more level-headed. About the only scenario I could think of, might be an android who was at, or approaching the 100 year mark/mandatory retirement and wanted to go out in style.
Some time back Dolly remarked that where law got a bit ambiguous or pushed too hard at being able to survive in the Datachasers universe, you had to draw your own lines, and stick to them. Jordan and Ivy seem to have drawn the line at deliberately killing off a *sentient* entity. They are putting the Cassian in a workable chassis, in the expectation that they will get some sort of financial reward, on the word of that Cassian. NB. They are very familiar with the reputation of the Cassians. We'll see if they approach New Rome first - which would actually be the sane choice - then New Troy. I would expect New Troy firmly to decline any dealings anyway, and redirect enqueries to New Rome. One Cassian in NT (Noctis) even in full diplomatic mode would be quite enough!

As for "racist," "sexist" and "Nazi" - if the shoe fits...

(and remember children, just because you're paranoid, it doesn't necessarily mean that they really aren't out to get you!)

you can set up some *epic* ambushes that way !

Well, that's what they claimed at least. Ophelia seemed sceptical about that, and apparently rightly so...
Heck, modern day boxers do it, why wouldn't androids ?
just to prove she has what it takes...
no one commented on Jordan's "force belt"..
Seems to be the same model Commie's dolls are wearing, just different colour.
There has been a Word of God remark about it being a shield emitter -- but I'm not sure how serious it was...
