The title of this page becomes really appropriate when I have to apologize for the delay in posting up the new page. Comicfury doesn't seem to want to upload the damn thing. I will keep at it until it works, DAMMIT.
Re: Alt Text, Sure. I always have those calls where I'm in a different body . . . XD
Tennyo to the rescue! (I bet she had the code verified a bit ago, and was just enjoying the situation. Maybe Ophelia has some payback to make a mental note of.)
What's Jordan looking at off to the side?? It has to be something significant, because the interplay between Ophelia and the dumb twins is otherwise pretty riveting...!
Also, securing a channel to an open LunaComm call box? Like trying to waterproof a salad shaker.
My nerve ends are tingling......
Jordan is looking at.. 3 pretty girls out on the town,, one is aware of whats going on around them, or they end up as gutter bait...
my partner was like that.. (Marine,, prison guard.)
Yeah, making a terminal that can run some encryption, would make sense in such a universe. Though it could simply be making both terminals, on each end, engage in such protocols, takes a little time.
Yep, we have halfway decent encryption even today, so my surprise comes more from the fact that in some ~1800 years from now that it isn't the norm, and they have to "switch it on".
Yes, but consider that 1800 years of bloody chaos back story. WW2 was a relatively sane, organised period compared to what has passed in the Datachasers univese. Not too surprising that some things seem to be "just the same"; they have just been reinvented again, and again. Besides, encryption costs, and the lunarcomm terminals in the boondocks won't be deluxe models. I keep harking back to the old British red phone boxes, robust, but not hi-tech.
encryption only works if you use it sparingly an short,, if you use it all the time then it becomes normal.. is another reason the "Key" / code has to change quite frequently,, if say you use the "P25" encryption with the same 256 key over a long period, then hackers have a good chance of decrypting the key...
Yeah, I see what you mean, but in the context of the immediate back story I would not be in the least surprised to see <bolo/berserker/golden-left-over> clank into sight, with immediate ensuing mayhem.
@Sheela: This could get a LOT worse, actually. You can look at Ophelia's day in one of two ways... either "I almost got killed, was forced into a sex-bot body, and now I can't even get my friggin report in", or...
"I somehow survived an ambush that wiped out my entire platoon, I was transferred into a compatible, fully functional body before I expired by 2 exceptional techs, I got past both Humpty AND Dumpty, and am now waiting for Tennyo to secure the line so I can transmit a classified report".
All things considered, Feelie has a lot to be thankful for! and... we have a lot to snicker about in the process! Thank you for the laugh, evil Duo, but the RL tech support supervisor is now politely asking that Ophelia get the support she needs, and if you need to escalate her call to my desk, I will be happy to take it.
PS... Humpty, Dumpty, could the two of you please come see me in my office? Close the door behind you please.
(maybe I should make that "Larry, Moe, and Curly Josephine")
I still think the most three dangerous words in the English language are "Hey watch this"
The other ones, simply take you out of a proactive mindset, HWT actively invites situations requiring saving dice throws.
The joys video calls they can have so much fun pretending to be each other's supervisor. They could swap a caller back and forth between them several times each day saying that they are the preceding persons' supervisor. I guess it's to be expected when you talk to nova ilium that everybody would be Pinky. But not so much Nova Roma.
Tenyo already has a cutout, she should just be able to flip a switch and drop their end. However if Ophelia was in her right mind her first words should have been Tenyo can you secure this line.
When somebody mentioned the cost of encryption, I'm not sure if they meant The Wider bandwidth the call would need to take up to provide the same level of service. I hope Ophilia's account isn't getting dinged for the added service. The cost would be astromnical.
I agree that this could have gone a lot more smoothly.
I don't think Ophelia's account would suffer badly though. Encryption has software running on both ends, and the only real additional data transfer overhead is agreeing on decryption keys. HTTP vs HTTPS for example: no real huge difference in data requirements.
Unfortunately, right now, they probably have pretty decent job security. With competent personnel needed elsewhere (& fewer available bodies, in general), the palace needs bodies just to hold down the desks, no matter how dumb. Of course, that wouldn't prevent Tennyo from revoking their Netflix privileges for a week…

If I were (Ivy?) I wouldn't stick my nose in it.

Really Memorable...
"Wait, which one am I?" You know what they say, sugar: if you have to ask...
"Take it easy, yeah?"
"I DON'T WANNA."
megados is right: you don't wanna step into THAT crossfire...
...but finally she got to Tenyo - who really took her time... =S
Hold the line, please...
"This is the day that the Lord has made, and whatever it brings, I will rejoice and be glad in it!"
Trust me, it works a LOT better than "This day can't possibly get any worse."
