good clear heart beats are good!

Anyone else notice the lack of bodies from both sides?
Samuel Bronson 8th Oct 2019, 9:18 PM edit delete reply
I think I see skeeter over there on the left in panel 2, but I'm not sure 'cause it's only a few pixels high ...
Haegan2005 8th Oct 2019, 10:20 PM edit delete reply

I think you are right. That does look like skeeter!
kraznor 9th Oct 2019, 1:22 AM edit delete reply
i think its her toy entiprise but the black dot on the gray rocks may be skeeter we will have to see but i do hope that is skeeter
robnot 9th Oct 2019, 6:26 AM edit delete reply
like Kraznor: i think that is Enterprise,,..
but i think they (goldies) took Skeeter.. ((personal opinion)how else to find them,, track Skeeter.!))
Kiddeagle 9th Oct 2019, 6:53 PM edit delete reply
no. I think that's her spaceship toy. I think Skeeter is the slag puddle in Panels 2 and 3.
megados 8th Oct 2019, 9:20 PM edit delete reply

Cyana's alive! That splatter where Olina was is bad though. :( No sign of Braden. Is that Skeeter on the ground to the left?

It looks like they took them and left. :( Poor Cyana. At least Logrin's there in time.
Rashala 8th Oct 2019, 11:28 PM edit delete reply

Kids alive....traumatized but alive parents.....they got spare parted I think
megados 9th Oct 2019, 6:01 AM edit delete reply

I wonder about that. They call the gutters scum, and yet . . . .

Anyway, I have a suspicion that they're looking for something specific.
Vivocateur 8th Oct 2019, 11:49 PM edit delete reply

*Whew* This could have ended so much worse!
Oldarmourer 11th Oct 2019, 6:53 PM edit delete reply

As you know, one of my favorite saying is:
"There's nothing so bad that you can't make it worse."™ It makes a good companion to Murphy's law.
:D
Just_IDD 9th Oct 2019, 4:34 AM edit delete reply
I am a bit confused. The splatter indicates a headshot on the mom, but if they were after brains that would be something dumb to do. However anything other than a headshot wouldn't have killed her quickly.

I can't imagine her stuck there trying hard not to look at where they offed her mother with it right next to her all that time. She obviously can't move because of her broken back.

It looks like they took all of the materiel, i wonder if they to Skeeter's chassis as well. If for some unaccountable reason they did not, he hopefully has good recordings left of the event.
robnot 9th Oct 2019, 6:38 AM edit delete reply
Any threw an threw shot will leave that kind of mark... so probably a chest shot,, an we know those are survivable..
Skeeter... i think they took him.. BUT.. I hope he left a "presence" (not a download) in the toy..
Oldarmourer 10th Oct 2019, 4:34 PM edit delete reply
We can always hope that it was a wandering predator in the might and SKEETER had one good shot left...
robnot 10th Oct 2019, 5:20 PM edit delete reply
? night.. vs might?? an if was a predator,, where's the body,??
SteelRev 9th Oct 2019, 11:33 AM edit delete reply
thats one hell of a burn on her legs
Oldarmourer 9th Oct 2019, 4:22 PM edit delete reply
and the rest of her from the looks of it, a day in the desert sun will do that...
Oldarmourer 12th Oct 2019, 4:09 PM edit delete reply
Her legs might be burnt worse than the rest of her thanks to the shot that tossed her against the wall...
KarToon12 9th Oct 2019, 12:01 PM edit delete reply

At least there's SOME good news.
chk 9th Oct 2019, 12:27 PM edit delete reply

Mercyful Minerva.
Meska 9th Oct 2019, 5:47 PM edit delete reply
Oh my, the sunburn on her legs is awful. Gonna have welts and dehydration. All Fixable. Her back too if she's able to get treatment for the paralysis.
megados 9th Oct 2019, 6:44 PM edit delete reply

Her spinal trauma may also be temporary if her back wasn't broken. It's possible (I'm hopeful) that her sunburn is actually the worst of it.
Romfire 9th Oct 2019, 8:02 PM edit delete reply
I think it is time to call our favorite search and rescue team out.
megados 13th Oct 2019, 4:35 PM edit delete reply

I wonder about that. If Logrin has some connections in NT, and could pull a few strings, it's doable, but I wonder. Otherwise, I didn't think Braden and Olina are/were NT citizens, so would NT S&R be otherwise called to look for them?
Centcomm 13th Oct 2019, 5:51 PM edit delete reply

New Troy S&R would not normally respond to a distress call unless its a NT citizen and they are not. its up to Logrin >_>
Romfire 14th Oct 2019, 9:55 PM edit delete reply
Since Logrin did New Troy a "solid" by taking care of their injured Dr., I would think Cent would authorize helping them out.
Lurker314 9th Oct 2019, 8:40 PM edit delete reply
This guy has a gun, but what ever military training he has apparently stayed home today.

He is ONE man with light armour and a side arm. He's going up to a base with decent defences, except that they aren't up. You don't do ANYTHING but attempt contact, radio for backup & scout from a distance.

It's like bringing in a severe trauma patient with a stopped heart. If you start the heart right away, there is no telling where the blood it going to go. Untrained instincts are BAD.
Centcomm 10th Oct 2019, 6:08 AM edit delete reply

Rangers operate alone 90 percent of the time.. and dont write off our favorite grizzled old man yet.
robnot 10th Oct 2019, 6:39 AM edit delete reply
there are bold soldiers,,
there are old soldiers,,
there are "NO" Old Bold Soldiers.!!
..he made it to Gunny (E-7) in the Marines.. he is now a Ranger.. NOT a man to piss off,,.
i wood say if Logrin an Noctis had to kill each other,, it would be a good fight till one made a mistake..
megados 10th Oct 2019, 9:24 AM edit delete reply

Hmm, well luckily for both of them, I can't think of any reason why they would be put in that position. In your scenario, my take on it would be that Noctis would be less likely to make a mistake of that kind. She would tend to have more stamina, and fatigue wouldn't be as much of an issue for her. The longer the contest went on, the more Logrin might be battling fatigue, making it increasingly possible to make a wrong move. Just a guess; YMMV
robnot 10th Oct 2019, 5:10 PM edit delete reply
..Kali vs Dolly,,. Kali made the first mistake.. so it is possible..
and we don't know all of the mods Logrin has.. so think Marcus an his mods,, safe to say Logrin prolly has similar (tho not as cutting edge.),, an he has that transfer system...
Oldarmourer 10th Oct 2019, 8:43 PM edit delete reply
That transfer system would make a huge difference, but I seem to remember it being very short range ?
Of course, if he had a unit rigged into the truck...but then he'd have to have a place to transfer the things from...
Centcomm 12th Oct 2019, 1:25 AM edit delete reply

Actually that device may not make it into the reboots.. its not in charcter or inline with other technology.. it was a product of me being overboard
Oldarmourer 10th Oct 2019, 8:45 PM edit delete reply
Thing about getting old is...we're experienced, it doesn't take much to piss us off and everything hurts anyway so we just want things to get quiet fast so we can nap...old men will hurt you.
megados 11th Oct 2019, 8:33 AM edit delete reply

True, dat!
Lurker314 10th Oct 2019, 4:23 PM edit delete reply
I'm not writing him off, I'm chewing him out. He confirms that the outpost is compromised---and then goes running up to it like some kind of civilian. You just cannot do that if you want to stay alive for long.

If the goldies are long gone, that's good for him (this time), but he makes no effort to check for hostiles before running in there. Civilian behaviour.
Centcomm 10th Oct 2019, 5:32 PM edit delete reply

after discussing this with a few friends in the military. they find no fault with Logrin's Actions. People first... Also wait for it..
Oldarmourer 10th Oct 2019, 8:47 PM edit delete reply
Apparently he's confident in his abilities, including the ability to read a scene. Wonder if he's taken the stealth fields into account though ? or if blue eyes left a rear guard ? or if Logrin outranks them all ;)
Oldarmourer 12th Oct 2019, 4:07 PM edit delete reply
He'll be better armed in a second, that looks like Olina's GBFO rail-pistol lying beside Cyana...
Guess it wasn't high enough tech to 'salvage' :(
mjkj 9th Oct 2019, 11:33 PM edit delete reply

Poor Cyana... *hugs her*

...at least she is still alive and whole (no murderturd gnawed on her in the night) and help is here...

...I just hope she will get healed and well soon... =S
Oldarmourer 10th Oct 2019, 4:35 PM edit delete reply
Down to 5th place again :(
But there's something to be said about the previous 5th place holder jumping around 700 votes in the span of an hour or so....
megados 10th Oct 2019, 5:26 PM edit delete reply

That comic is usually below 10th. It was up there earlier in the month, but quickly dropped back, leaving DC in 4th. There's something funny going on there, because this isn't the first time a voting surge propelled it into the top 10.
Centcomm 10th Oct 2019, 5:32 PM edit delete reply

its called.. BOTS!
megados 10th Oct 2019, 6:45 PM edit delete reply

My least favorite people are cheats and liars.
Jeremy 10th Oct 2019, 6:58 PM edit delete reply
Eh expected, lots of comics there are shaming it up. Even the very professional looking ones. From my experience TWC is all vanity anyway. Even the paid promotion thing doesn't get much more interaction. Keep voting anyway folks. The good win in the end.
B 14th Oct 2019, 1:34 AM edit delete reply
@Jeremy It’s also just obscure for an amalgam site. Not that great for promotion or hits. But doesn’t hurt.
me 11th Oct 2019, 6:59 AM edit delete reply
To be fair ... 700 votes in one hour should entirely doable for a overly dedicated fan to achieve by just voting and voting and voting and voting ...

People have done that with casting shows .... so why not expect them to do it with other voting systems?
me2 11th Oct 2019, 7:03 AM edit delete reply
OK, there's some safeguards against SPAM-voting ... and there's some safeguard against using BOTs too (I just checked).

Still, I'm pretty confident that someone with just a bit more criminal energy than me would find a way around both.

There'll always be cheaters.
Oldarmourer 10th Oct 2019, 8:49 PM edit delete reply
we have bots...and droids..and AIS's too
but I'm pretty sure we don't cheat...much...*reaches for the phone to get todays votes in on the 'other machine'*
megados 11th Oct 2019, 7:43 PM edit delete reply

Well their surge seems to be waning. If they don't fire up the bots again, DC will be back in 4th again soon.

*edit: Oct 12, 8:15am (ET) and back to 4th! :D
Sheela 13th Oct 2019, 5:10 AM edit delete reply

And back to 4th we go. 😁
Just_IDD 15th Oct 2019, 3:46 AM edit delete reply
To be fair it could easily be a service in Asia that people solve captcha. People will do anything if they are paid and the TWC captcha isn't a hard solve.

You wouldnt even need a smart program with a 1 in 3 chance and no consequence for repeated errors.
Romfire 10th Oct 2019, 8:58 PM edit delete reply
He still has comms and sensors. The Golden britches brigade flattens scans and com signals.
If there are any around, they would have to be in hunker down and lie in weight mode. They seem to be more active scouting mode types.
Oldarmourer 12th Oct 2019, 4:10 PM edit delete reply
Let's see...water transports gone, parts for the fusion generator and defence systems apparently gone, bodies gone, kid left behind...
looks like one of those cases where 2+2= ?
jawbone 13th Oct 2019, 6:23 AM edit delete reply

There may be plenty of wabbitses lurking in the hatses of the perpetrators of this comic about which we know absolutely zip, zilch, nada, nihil, bupkus. I await eagerly without speculation or expectation.
Oldarmourer 13th Oct 2019, 10:13 AM edit delete reply

Wabbitses...you dare mention wabbits in here without stopping to think what's likely to happen ?

poor widdle wabbit
oldastronomer 14th Oct 2019, 12:59 AM edit delete reply
We have suspected that Logrin may be a covert Lunar agent, amongst other things, (Although this may be lost in the rework because of the loss of the transfer technology). He may be able to call on Lunar assistance. Also it has been mentioned previously that NT S&R have a better rep amongst the dusters than MilSec because S&R can do things for the dusters on occasion. Could this be one of them as an exceptional case? Rangers seem to have a certain official status, in aspects of law enforcement. A call from a Ranger will have weight. I cannot conceive that an S&R organisation will not respond to a call, bugger the cost...

robnot 14th Oct 2019, 6:06 AM edit delete reply
what is the cost,, the cost of my soul,, for NOT trying.!!! an the weight of what IF.!
Oldarmourer 15th Oct 2019, 5:48 AM edit delete reply

A little aside since most of us...some of us...a few of us...couple, maybe...think of Marvin's voice for SKEETER...

maybe I shouldn't have tempted 'worse' :(

at least the diodes stopped hurting

As former Army Medic, VFD EMT-D, Patients come first.

As for Politics, please keep real world politics out of DC's comment section. I've seen too many great webcomics have to lock down or restrict their comment sections because people are rude and impolite.

And I don't want that here, as the comment section is just as good as the comic itself.
Romfire 15th Oct 2019, 4:56 PM edit delete reply
Real world Politics aside, Can I get some clarity on DC situation?

New Rome had(s) a Monarchy? Emperor? But they also have a Senate.
New Troy has a Senate, and Centcomm. Does the A.I. rule? have any say over civilian stuff? Or does just administer the infrastructure?
Is New Rome going to restrict the power of ruler?

Just curious?
megados 15th Oct 2019, 7:07 PM edit delete reply

"New Rome had(s) a Monarchy? Emperor? But they also have a Senate."

Yes. Decimus was ruler until his death. The monarchy is held by the Livius lineage of which only Acantha remains (that we know of). She is only sixteen years old, and as such, cannot assume the Throne until she comes of age. Meanwhile, in her stead, Maxus is slated to be installed as Lord Regent until that time, acting more or less as proxy for Acantha. That's the plan, anyway. ;)

"Is New Rome going to restrict the power of ruler?"

That hasn't been discussed, and I would bet that the answer to that might be a spoiler. :D

"New Troy has a Senate, and Centcomm. Does the A.I. rule? have any say over civilian stuff? Or does just administer the infrastructure?"

As I understand it, CentComm doesn't "rule" per se but is more of a caretaker/security overseer, as well as taking care of infrastructure, and making sure things are kept up. She's a very staunch protector of New Troy. As such, she does hold sway over a lot of the day to day events.

"Just curious?"

We all are. :D
